What a crazy month for Vince McMahon. The XFL is tanking and NBC wants out of the deal, Jerry Lawler walked out, ECW files for bankruptcy, Paul Heyman needs a job, Vince has a meltdown on HBO, he acquires WCW, and oh by the way he's about to put on the biggest WrestleMania ever! Bruce and Conrad dig into all of these moving parts going on behind the scenes before what will be the most financially successful WrestleMania ever up until that point setting records in nearly every category. The show would feature a crazy hardcore match people remember to this day, the crazy McMahon family story, an unreal match between Benoit and Angle, perhaps one of the silliest battle royals in WWE history, the tag team match that created a highlight reel by itself and set the standard for TLCs to come, and a match between the two biggest icons in the business at the time with an ending that changed everything. The guys break down the business aspect of the show, the creative, and the regrets coming out of the show. Don't miss one of the most requested topics ever -- WrestleMania X-Seven! WrestleMania X marked the return to Madison Square Garden, where it all began nine years earlier. But this WrestleMania was different. Vince McMahon was in the fight of his life with the steroid trial, the business was much in transition where it had taken a dip, and this was the very first WrestleMania without Hulk Hogan. How did the trial effect his view of WrestleMania? Did it effect his booking of this show or his creativity in general? After the company took a dip in 1993, what did they change to return to profitability in 1994? How did Vince receive the news of Hogan negotiating with WCW? Did Vince consider working something out for Hogan to appear at this show? What was the deal with all of the celebrities? Bruce answers all of these questions before adding tidbits we've never heard before like Bret wanted to beat Owen, why Vince introduced Luger as World Champion at a house show, the finish of Savage-Crush, the backup plan if the ladder broke for Razor and Shawn, and so much more! Come along as we go back in time 25 years to revisit WRESTLEMANIA X! TONIGHT! Eric Bischoff, Tony Schiavone, and Conrad Thompson present the first ever joint 83 Weeks and What Happened When live show in Chicago. Pick up your tickets for just $39 at 83WHW.com. Bruce is on the road this weekend in Australia! Don't miss your chance to see him live at BrucePrichard.com! We're finally here, WRESTLEMANIA XX! This was the third, and probably last, WrestleMania at Madison Square Garden. We discuss the Garden and the opening video for the show in great detail. We've already covered Royal Rumble 2004 where Benoit won his shot at the World Title and No Way Out 2004 where Eddie Guerrero became World Champion himself but most folks remember the end of this show as their crowning moment of their careers. We discuss why Shawn was inserted into the match, the finish being a submission, the spectacular match between Eddie and Kurt, the return of Mick Foley, the return of the Rock, the way the locker room felt about Brock, why Brock was leaving, when they knew Brock was leaving, why Brock lost the match, what the relationship with Goldberg was like, what was discussed for Bischoff, whether or not Bret Hart was considered, the business being down and why, plus much more about WrestleMania XX! Get a lower monthly payment, payoff your credit cards, pay your house off faster, and even skip your next two house payments at SaveWithBruce.com Stop throwing your money away on rent and buy a house for less than current rent at HideFromRent.com Come see Bruce Prichard and Jim Ross the Monday after WrestleMania just steps from Barclays at www.BrucePrichard.com -- our only live show with Jim Ross and perhaps our last non-Starrcast live show ever!

Christian a sure-fire Hall of Famer with a story unlike any other Superstar in WWE history. Today Bruce takes us back to the beginning of his wrestling career all the way through today. From paying for his training to the legacy he has left and everything in between. Of course Christian's story is one of highs and lows. Bruce and Conrad examine his on-screen debut, the pairing with the Brood, whether or not that faction ended too quickly, what helped make his pairing with Edge, what writer had the most influence on his career as a tag wrestler, what PPV "made" their team, the infamous TLC matches people still talk about to this day, and of course the break up. How did they decide who was going to be the "good guy" in that story line? What did Vince see in Christian at that time? Did Vince really want Christian to cut his hair? Why didn't it happen? What's the rumor and innuendo about the blue dot? Of course the temper tantrums, the title runs, and the departure from WWE must be addressed. How did Vince react to Christian leaving? Did the TNA run help him upon his return? Why did Dixie Carter choose him to return to TNA in 2012 as a special deal with WWE over all other contracted WWE talent? What would Christian's career look like if there was never an Edge character? All of this and much more for our podcast peeps as we examine the life and times of Christian in the WWE! We are one year removed from the Montreal Screwjob and the tide has turned in the Monday Night War--the WWF is near clearly in the lead with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin feuding with "Mr. McMahon." But the story of Survivor Series 1998 is about to further the lead that the WWF has when they crown their "next big thing" champion. The Rock became "the guy" at Survivor Series '98 but HOW they got there was the most masterful part of the story. Vince Russo has said this was the best thing he ever wrote in wrestling and most agree. The story of Mankind and Vince McMahon, weaving in Shane McMahon and the Rock for weeks before the big reveal... the Rock is the Chairman's hand picked Champion. The stage was set for WrestleMania 15 and what would become the biggest trilogy in the history of professional wrestling. Don't miss the incredible story that made the Rock one of the youngest WWE Champions ever as Bruce and Conrad discuss Survivor Series 1998! Holidays got you feeling stressed financially? Nobody has a story like William Regal! Bruce and Conrad cover his start in the business at just 16 years old, touring Europe, a surprise tryout with the WWF nobody talks about, who gave him a tip on how to get hired in WCW, who brought him in, why he left, who he called in the WWF to come in, what happened in the very first meeting, the illness that nearly cost him his life, his addiction, the rocky start with the company, the silly "Man" gimmick, rehab, the release, the match that got everyone talking again, the idea for the Commissioner, his title runs, his partnership with Tajiri, the pairing with Eugene, the parasite, his notable matches, winning King of the Ring, the failed drug test, his legacy, and everything in between that made William Regal one of the most fascinating stories in the history of professional wrestling! Take a look into Tough Enough as Bruce discusses the judges, the contestants, and how the decision to bring it to SmackDown upset the veterans. Of course Bruce has an opinion on how the "incident" with Angle took place as well. Why did Puder win? Once he did, how did the veterans treat him? What really happened at the Royal Rumble? Why didn't they ever do anything with him and Angle? What is their relationship like now? We discuss OVW, the letter he got by "accident" and then of course we break down why it didn't last, the true details of the $1M contract, and take your questions. Then we continue our doubleheader with a complete breakdown of the Hardcore Title. Who had the idea? Why was it done? Who benefited the most? We exam some of the more memorable moments with the title, the guys who helped make it matter, and the times where it all just became hard to follow. 1997 was one of the most important years in WWF history. We will examine the story lines like the USA-Canada angle of course but the real story is what is actually happening within the company. The WWF has greater attendance but ratings and PPV buys are down. We're less than two months away from Vince McMahon coming to Bret to tell him, "I can't afford your contract." We know that the following month, Vince "found the money." But how? We examine what changes the company made to cut costs and raise revenues, some that fans wouldn't have ever even noticed. Of course at the end of this show, Bret would become champion. If he hadn't, would the "screwjob" have ever happened three months later? Why did Vince still go with Bret as champion here? What were people saying about Shawn's knee? What happened before, during, and after Owen piledrove Austin? Of course we examine the love heaped on Whitman for changing the tax situation in New Jersey for the WWF and the silly million dollar contest with calling fans live on the air. Join us on a "State of the WWF" for the Summer of 1997! This is a sleeper episode! Bruce and Conrad discuss the brand split and how it allowed guys to be featured who may not normally have a chance to do so, why the US Title was created, the rumor and innuendo surrounding Zack Gowen, the infamous HBO interview where Vince got frustrated discussing deaths in wrestling, why Hogan left, the original plan for Hogan and what the backup plan was, Chris Bell's brief run backstage, Billy Kidman being the envy of the locker room, why Terry Taylor was out (again), the Sable-Stephanie brawls backstage, the hilarious indecent proposal angle with Noble, why Ultimo Dragon didn't work out, why Crash Holly was let go, why Brother Love was brought back, how Vince got busted open, and why the title was switched at this show! Anti-American "gimmicks" have been done in wrestling for decades but Muhammad Hassan is the only character to ever be banned from television in the WWE. Join Bruce and Conrad as they examine the "how" and "why" of one of the most controversial characters in wrestling history. Who had this idea originally? How was it different than what had been done before? How did they choose who would portray the character? What were the booking plans before the incident? How did the man behind the character handle the success? What REALLY happened with him in "Wrestler's Court" and what was the verdict? What were the choices considered once the incident was already taped but had not yet aired? How did Vince react to the negative mainstream coverage of the angle? Did the WWE ruin a guy's career with one bad decision? The "what if" of this character and a single decision could have changed everything. And of course the guys get it over whether or not they should have done the character in the first place. Enjoy two hours and no one is going to agree about, the story of Muhammad Hassan! We discuss who came up with the name Brutus Beefcake, the original gimmick, how it became a barber, whose idea that was, how it was received, who helped Brutus see how to get it over, why he never won the IC title in 88, why he was chosen to be by Hogan's side in 89 vs. Zeus/Savage, what the plans were at SummerSlam 90, all about the accident and the recovery, the run-in experiment, the return in 93, why he left, his legacy, whether or not he's a Hall of Famer, and much more! The Sable story is unlike any other. There's an old saying about keeping your wife away from the business but Marc Mero didn't listen. He brought her to meet Vince McMahon in 1996 and nothing was ever the same. Perhaps no one could have predicted the star she would become when she debuted at WrestleMania 12 with Hunter Hearst Helmsley. We can't help but cover the story of Marc Mero's push, IC run, and the horrible timing of his ACL injury. But that ACL injury presented an opportunity for Rena Mero to become the biggest female star in the company. What night does Bruce think "made" Sable in 1997? Fast forward a year later and she's making her debut as a wrestler at WrestleMania! Who has their first ever match at WrestleMania? SABLE! Of course that decision would come back to haunt the WWF when Sable sued them a year later. We discuss the way the "boys" treated Sable, her relationship with the other ladies (specifically Luna and Jackie), the heat that Mero took for his wife's push, whether or not it hurt Marc to take her powerbomb, the way the first Playboy deal came together, the controversial TSN appearance, the second offer from Playboy and how it changed everything, Sable asking for her release the first time, her demand to stop wrestling, her refusal to drop the belt, the unbelievable handwritten note, the conditional terms that the company granted for their release, her lawsuit in great detail, her appearance on Nitro and how it complicated things, the root of the lawsuit and why Vince didn't back down, a guess as to how it was settled, how Rena came back, why Mero did not, her relationship with Brock, the silliness of Vince and Sable, the crazy angles involving Linda and Stephanie, and how the relationship ended a second time. We also examine the many times Meltzer "buried" Sable, what Sable said no one wanted to "boo," which Vince was responsible for her initial push, who really made room for her to be the top lady in the business, her legacy, why she isn't featured more in the WWE packages today, and whether or not she deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Business was down for the WWE in 2003 compared to 2002, but why? Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson discuss "the State of the WWE" for two hours this week and it's based around Bad Blood 2003, which exceeded expectations. Was it the Hell in a Cell that was responsible for the bump in business? Was it the return of Mick Foley? The show also featuring a burping contest, a poontang pie eating contest, and a singing contest -- who booked this?! Nobody was asking that for Flair-Michaels, a full five years before the famous retirement match. You'll also hear details about the beginning of Evolution, how Vince got Christian to cut his hair, why Rocky Johnson didn't last in developmental, why Sahadi left, why Jamal left, how Sable and Mero were doing, Nowinski's career, the spot with Steiner that everyone talks about on this show, how Test went into business for himself, the rib that McMahon played during this show, what Goldberg veto'ed in his match with Jericho, and what this show led two just two weeks later. On the exact 15 year anniversary of this show, don't miss another "sleeper episode" filled with hours about a very interesting time for a company in transition, it's all about the WWE in 2003! The Summer of 1993 might be one of the most interesting times in the history of the WWF. With the Federal investigation looming, Vince McMahon steps down as President of Titan Sports after 12 years in the role, Tom Cole's story and the "ring boy scandal" continues to twist in the media, Hulk Hogan is working with NJPW but he's the WWF Champion and he wants to leave to do TV full time, Bret Hart feels like his opportunity to be the top guy was taken from him by a "half-in" Hogan, Yokozuna is the monster heel Vince loves, and somebody needs him at SummerSlam. But wasn't Hart-Hogan the plan at SummerSlam? What subtle hints were dropped on this broadcast and what "out" did Vince leave himself with the booking? Of course Bruce discusses the incredible performance by Bret Hart, a rusty Mr. Perfect who doesn't look rusty at all, a hot angle with Lawler to finish the show. the silly photographer outfit, and the weird transitional period within the company where stars from the "golden era" like Hacksaw Duggan are still in the company when guys like Razor, Diesel, and Shawn are coming into their own. And oh yeah, the guys discuss that "European tour" that got them into the worst fight in show history back on the WrestleMania IX episode. You won't believe what Bob Holly thought of working for Jerry Jarrett in Memphis, or maybe you will, but his story doesn't stop there. Nobody has a story like Bob Holly. From quitting his job to wrestle to quitting wrestling to get a job and back again, he got his big break out of nowhere and felt like he was going nowhere as "Thurman 'Sparky' Plugg" for Vince McMahon. Bruce discusses Bob's claims of poor pay from the company in 1994, dropped Thurman for Bob, the real life racing situation that wasn't just a gimmick, his brief IC situation with Jarrett, why the Waltman tag title win happened, his run-ins with the Kliq, the JOB Squad, the Hardcore Championship, Crash, BB, Molly, Kurt Angle breaking his arm, Brock Lesnar breaking his neck, when and how the Tough Enough situation happened, the fall out from that both good and bad, being recruited by Eric Bischoff, the huge gash on his back on ECW TV, the rumored fight with Rene Dupree, standing up to Vince, the pill rumor involving Ken Anderson, his heat with Cody, and his legacy in the business! "I LOOOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOOOU!" made Bruce Prichard a television star for the WWF as "Brother Love" back in 1988. But how did a 25-year-old kid working behind the scenes suddenly become a television character? Bruce tells the full story of the Brother Love character, who loved the idea, who hated the idea, and how it was never supposed to be him portraying the character. How did Bruce land the job? How did they "disguise" Bruce originally? How did the make up, the white suit, and the red shirt come to be? What was the process for creating the Brother Love Show set and format? Plus Bruce discusses the strategy for airing it on Wrestling Challenge before Superstars, his memories of being on NBC, the incredible story where he wound up "in the main event" against Hulk Hogan, who had heat with the character, a hilarious Andre story, and much more from the "golden era" of the WWF! From an untrained enhancement talent to the main event at Madison Square Garden against Hulk Hogan in under three years, nobody has a story like Ray Traylor! Bruce and Conrad briefly touch on the Big Bubba Rogers days before breaking down how Boss Man got his big break in the business and how the gimmick came to be, why he was chosen to work with Hogan, why the character got over, why Hogan loved working with him, why Slick was chosen instead of Bobby Heenan, how much money Boss Man was making on top (?!), how Andre felt about him, why Boss Man was turned babyface, whether or not he was considered for a tag title run with Akeem or an IC title run, why he lost so much weight during his first run, why he left, how he came by, how he was repackaged, the feud with Austin, why he was perfect for McMahon's Corporation, why he was sent to OVW, and what happened to end his run with WWE. We also talk about how Curt Hennig's death affected him, his relationship with the boys, his unfortunate passing at just 42 years old, and his legacy in the business. Oh and we didn't forget the time he stole a dog, cooked it and fed it another guy, and then they had the remains on a pole in a match. Or the Kennel in a Cell. The WWF is on fire by April '98. In this episode we cover the "RAW after WrestleMania" where Sean Waltman returned to the company to join DX, the New Age Outlaws became made men, Vince tried to "tame" his new champion, and everything else on the way to the Pay Per View after WrestleMania 14, Unforgiven 1998. Why was Dude Love the right opponent for Austin's first title defense? When did the company know that Austin-McMahon had "it" together? What did Waltman change that resulted in a better contract? What was the original name considered for him upon his return? How much of his "shoot" promo was scripted? How in the world did FIRE become such a critical part of the Undertaker-Kane feud? Who first pitched the Inferno Match? When did they first put the match together? What precautions were taken? You'll also hear more "tinkle, tinkle" silliness, who Bruce saw more potential in, some discussion on Mark Yeaton, the potential plan for Ric Flair on this Pay Per View, why the company didn't run Greensboro more often, what McMahon thought about the Rock N Roll Express, how the hell Sawyer Brown was on this show, how over Sable was without really doing anything, when the experiment for LOD 2000 was really over, Hunter beating Owen for the 713th time in a row, why Hunter wasn't the opponent for Steve instead of Dude Love, details on McMahon's first chair shot, and of course "Cornette" and "Pat" discussing the inferno match. You've got to hear Bruce and Rob's take on Paul Heyman's "management style" at the time, the first time Rob met Vince, when the WWF made overtures to sign Rob the first time, who actually arranged the meeting with JR, what the perception of Rob was based on the 1997 run, why Rob got to keep his name in the WWF, why he got the major push in 2001 including a win over Austin, what match changed Vince's perception of him, the little details Rob thought separated the WWF from ECW, who tried to undermine Rob in the back, who Rob had heat with over changing finishes, who Stephanie thought Rob should be more excited about facing, what advice Shane gave him that he thought was basically asking him to kiss ass, when he wanted to play "pick a hand" with Bruce and why, the infamous Tribute to the Troops story, the time Johnny Ace through him out of a meeting, the time he almost slapped Vince, what title Rob misses the most, of course the full rundown of what happened in the car with Sabu when he was champion, what Rob thinks could have been done differently, and how he thinks the company screwed him out of a major check on the way out. WHO'S NEXT?! GOOOOOLDBERG! He was the hottest star for WCW during their hottest period but his first run in the WWE wasn't quite as stellar. Did JR try to bring him in before he signed with WCW? What did Vince think about him? What run-ins did he have with WWE superstars before coming in? Who helped bring him in? Who was against it? Why didn't he come in sooner? Was he supposed to be a part of WM19? Why did he debut in jeans and a jacket? What REALLY happened with the fight with Jericho? Goldberg in a Goldust wig, who booked this ish?! What was Vince trying to accomplish with Goldberg? What did Rock think of working with him? How did he get along with Hunter? What was the locker room reception to him? What was the hilarious "common theme" with seemingly all of Goldberg's storylines? When did the relationship start to change? Was their "strike one" and a "strike two" for Goldberg in the WWE? What was Goldberg's chief complaint? Why was his first loss on a house show? Was the Elimination Chamber match a back up plan? How was business with Goldberg as the top guy? Bruce has had enough and he blows a gasket to start the show this week. Around 18 minutes in, it's all about the first time Vince McMahon decided to do the very first "brand split" with the First Draft on March 25, 2002! Who had the idea first? What was the original plan? Who in the office was against a split? Was Flair always supposed to be the first "General Manager" in company history? Was the idea to create "dream matches" for super shows? Was the brand split based on revenues being down or strictly creative? Bruce details exactly how Vince presents an idea and the way the writers worked together in that era. Who was happiest Hogan was back in the locker room? Who did Hall & Nash not want in the nWo? Who was allegedly "blown off" by a friend at WrestleMania? How did Vince feel when people joked about his failure with the XFL on TV? Who first used the word "brand" and why did the company start using it on TV? Who won the battle: WWF or DirecTV? Was there ever a plan to do more than 16 PPVs a year? Bruce discusses Mark Henry in the Hall of Fame, more details than ever before about the WWF name change, what agreement Vince didn't honor, what other names were considered, who wanted the word "wrestling" out of the name, rumors about Rey and Eddie's low ball contract offers, why the lightweight title never caught on, whether or not Stephanie wanted to be a TV star, which Superstars got to tryout for color commentary before Taz was selected, what Vince said at the meeting with the boys prior to the draft, how and where those meetings are held, why Penn State was the host, why RAW got a new look that night, when the talent found out, which talent did know ahead of time, who had special requests, whether or not traveling partners were considered, the silliness of Steve Austin not being in the draft, how Jericho found out, why Hunter wasn't eligible, why the nWo could be drafted as a group but the Dudleyz were split, who saw the Dudleyz as singles stars, how the Austin-McMahon relationship was at this point, plus details on the first Undisputed World Title belt! Is WrestleMania 19 the most underrated WrestleMania of all time? It's Brock's first WrestleMania and he's in the main event for the World Title. It's Steve Austin's last WrestleMania and finale of the Austin-Rock trilogy. It's Shawn Michael's first WrestleMania in five years and he stole the show with Chris Jericho. This is the most "stacked" roster in company history. Jeff Hardy, Batista, Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, Goldberg, and John Cena are all on the roster but not on the show. With this loaded roster, why was business down? The buy-rate was down 36% from 2002 but why? Were fans not ready for Angle-Lesnar in the top spot? Did the Undertaker not have a big enough match? Was Hogan-Vince what people saw as the focal point? Had the Rock-Austin feud lost some of it's luster? Of course that night will mostly be remembered for the Shooting Star Press in the main event. We cover that in great detail including never before heard details of the fallout of that evening for both men and you won't believe it. Plus we examine the unbelievable choices the WWE made regarding the Booker T-Triple H storyline to build to WrestleMania, the silliness of the Miller Lite Cat Fight Girls, Torrie's Playboy, the WWE theme ride in Niagra Falls, why the World finally closed, how Austin and Hogan got along, the Flair-Bischoff fight, the Heyman-Gewirtz fight, Shawn's relationship with Vince, Jeff Hardy's diminishing interest in wrestling, Tommy Dreamer on the writing team, the original plans for John Cena at WrestleMania, Kevin Kelly, more on Nathan Jones, the rise of Benoit and Guerrero, how the plans came together at the last minute for Piper, who was considered for that spot, and the unbelievable stuff we saw Vince McMahon do in his match against Hulk Hogan. But most of all we discuss the unfortunate sendoff of "Stone Cold" as it's the retirement match that nobody knew about. WWE still refers to our topic today as, "the most watched wrestling program in American TV history." February 5, 1988, was the first time pro-wrestling had been on network TV since 1955 and 33 million viewers tuned into NBC to see the biggest rematch in history: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant for the WWF World Championship. The largest audience in wrestling history was in for a treat: "How can there be two Dave Hebners?" Bruce breaks down arguably the best angle in WWF history and it was so good Meltzer even wrote, "Everything worked so well it was scary." We break down everything from that night and the weeks leading up to it. How did the WWF negotiate to get a slot during prime time, when was the decision made to switch the title, how did word leak out, how were tickets selling for WrestleMania IV relative to III, why did this show happen in Indianapolis, what was Ebersol's involvement since he wasn't with NBC at the time, who put together the graphics and backdrops, who produced the promos for the show, when and where were those shot, why didn't the main event close the show, what was different between Saturday Night's Main Event and the Main Event, whose idea was Peggy Sue, when was it decided that Honky wouldn't drop the IC title, who bought thousands of tickets to WrestleMania, the new World Title, who gets the credit for the evil twin idea, why there were empty seats in the arena, who the director was, who shot the Hulk Hogan training montage and why they used Jake Robert's theme, and much more about the biggest show in WWF history! Join Tony Schiavone as he re-visits the 20 Year Anniversary of the biggest show in the history of our great sport, Starrcade 1997! After a 17 month build, the nWo storyline had all built to this. It would be biggest financial success in WCW history but did it deliver creatively? The entire event would be shrouded in controversy: WCW had to go to great lengths to get Malenko in the ring, Raven was advertised but not ready, Flair was out with an injury for his rubber match with Hennig, Bischoff is wrestling his first match ever, Konnan no-shows a match on a day's notice, Randy Savage isn't booked but finds himself with a ton of leverage, Rey Mysterio and Booker T are spectators in the crowd, the guy who started this "invasion" angle isn't booked on this show but fills in when Kevin Nash no-shows for indigestion, Bret Hart makes his WCW PPV debut... as a referee, Bischoff can't pull off the original twist for the main event, Hogan doesn't think Sting is tan enough, Bischoff doesn't think Sting is in shape, and Nick Patrick "botches" the finish of the most anticipated main event in history... or does he? There's so much going on for WCW and many would say this show was the beginning of the end, but WCW would go on to set new records just eight days later and all through the Summer. So decide for yourself as we dig deep into Starrcade 1997, was it the best of times? Or the worst of times?
