What's up, dudes? It's all about WWF Prime Time Wrestling Christmas 1987, battle royale style with Jeremy Phelps the Alamo City Santa, Ron from the Film Strip podcast, Joe from Now Watch This, Manny from Feliz Christmas, Merry Navidad, and CJ from Rose Suchak Ladder! We talk Bobby the Brain and Gorilla! Also, we dive into Hogan and Dibiasi! We body slam Strike Force and the Islanders! This episode has it all!Airing December 21, 1987, the matches begin with Hercules taking on Junkyard Dog. After a double clothesline, Hercules pins JYD with help from the ropes. Following that, the Conquistadors fight the Young Stallions. There follows a scissor flip, several chokeholds, a shot to the midsection and flip and drop kick for the Stallions victory. Next, in a promo, Hulk turns down Ted Dibiasi's offer to buy the championship.Iron Mike Sharpe and Ultimate Warrior fight, with the latter slamming the former's face into the turnbuckle. Meanwhile, Bobby and Gorilla argue about gift giving, and plug the free Royal Rumble matchup on USA. Also, Ted Dibiasi's talks about how he spent his Thanksgiving: with money! Hacksaw Jim Duggan performed a football charge to pin Rex King. Subsequently, Danny Houston was counted out of the ring giving Danny Davis the win. As well, Brutus the Barber Beefcake did a promo about his barber's tool, calling out Greg Valentine. Then Brain gives Gorilla a box of stolen junk from Caesar's Palace in Atlantic City! Finally, Strike Force—Rick Martel and Tito Santana—collided with the monstrous Islanders, Haku and Tama. It's a brutal beatdown, eventually all wrestlers fighting outside the ring. The Islanders win by count out but didn't win the belt!Royal Rumble plug? Once. Weasel chant? A few times. Falling outside the ring Constantly! Well here's a bit of sweet news! Our guest this week is the Mighty Grouch from Grouch & Eligh and The Legendary Living Legends crew. Here to remind you about the highly anticipated full-album release from Living Legends called The Return, after nearly 18 years since their last album “Classic” and to also promote the upcoming 'How the Grouch Stole Christmas' tour, which this year features The Living Legends, Brother Ali, Reverie & DJ Fresh. For as long as I've been listening to the Grouch's music it's a real trip to be actually having a conversation with him and creating art for him. On this episode 72 of The DOD45 Show, I draw a Where the Wild Things Are themed piece with some of those pesky toy plastic bowling pins, that will make sense later in this episode. And In the intro, I give a detailed list of my many favorite Grouch tracks spanning over his 20+ years as an underground hip-hop artist on an impressive grind. With the Grouch we also discuss his 10 year stint living on the island of Maui, producing the Slug & Murs' Felt Album: a Tribute to Christina Ricci, and he shares with us a list of very impressive people that he has the utmost respect for, which includes Erykah Badu, Leon Bridges, Ab-Soul, Slug, Mos Def and more. Sage Francis joins the conversation via the Sage's Social Media Lurk segment, to ask about a Grouch post from 2012 which leads us into a discussion of what we deem to be proper social media etiquette. And Mr. Dibbs joins us through his segment to ask for clarification regarding a photograph of a gloriously dressed Grouch leering behind Dibbs in the backstage tunnel at the recent Atmosphere Red Rocks show. All of that and other mentions of things like Corey Haim & Corey Feldman, Zion-I, Monty Python, The Thing, Ash's Severed Hand, Christina Ricci, Christina Aguilera, Jay Electronica, Blackalicious, Vanity, ET, Kris Kros, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Yo Gabba Gabba and more. It's a real honor for the Grouch to be lending us his time, so put away that curling iron, light up the mosquito coil, nuzzle up with bucket of buttered popcorn & turn your attention to this episode 72 of The DOD45 Show with The Grouch. We have a very short episode today, but it's very important message. It is a reminder to all the real estate agents out there that when dealing with the other party, it is important to remember that it is not your deal. It is not your decision. Do not insert yourself. Let's say you represent the seller, if the buyers agent says that their customer wants a credit, you MUST ask the seller. Do not just give the answer that you think the Seller would say. Ask the seller. You can advise the Seller, you can phrase it in a way that shows the Seller you understand his or her stance, but you must ask. Wow. Sometimes my descriptions are better than what I actually say on the recording. We also talk about supra lock boxes and Brutus the Barber Beefcake. Enjoy. Thanks for joining us! This week we talk about the February 20, 1993 episode of Superstars of Wrestling and the February 22, 1993 episode of Monday Night Raw - where we get treated to the return of a deflated Hulk Hogan as he supports his bionic friend Brutus the Barber Beefcake and brings Jimmy Hart into the newly formed Mega Maniacs. Other than that it's squash match central, but we have fun. This is fun.
This week is a doozy, we have lots of Giant Gonzales sightings, Tatanka remains undefeated in his non-title match with Shawn Michaels, a wild interview with Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Vince McMahon, a 16 man Battle Royal that goes into the crowd, and a savage beating of Brutus' face by IRS. Listen in to see what Pat would do first if he had access to a time machine.
Words of the week - Anticipation and Fresh. Also our winner, loser, AND best dressed all go to Brutus the Barber Beefcake. We watch an episode of Superstars (1/30/93) and an episode of Raw (2/1/93) and discuss the hijinx of Doink, Tatanka, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Yokozuna, Typhoon and Ted Debase.
What a week it's been! After the wildly successful and sold out 4th BRCW show, Matthew and Neil set sail on the 4th Chris Jericho Rock and Wrestling Rager at Sea. We return to the studio to tell our production partner Nelio Costa, and you out dear listeners, all about it. Ask me where we went? No where. We drove around in circles. A 5 day wrestling booze Cruise to nowhere!!! While on the cruise, Matthew made it to where not too many have been before, The Suite of Jericho. How did Matthew make it up there? He'll never tell, but he did fill us in that he also got kicked out! Now that's how you party like a Rock Star! Speaking of the cruise, Chris Jericho has already announced the date for the next Rock and Rager at Sea will be January 26 -30. Matthew talks about his plans about doing a BRCW show the night before the cruise for the first time in Miami! There was so much to do on the cruise from watching wrestling (Neil had no idea about this), podcasts, concerts, games, bar crawls, meet and greets, food and just about anything else you could think of. Matthew and Neil discuss their different experiences on the cruise. This time, Neil brought his family along and they loved it! Matthew loved the cruise even though he had to work! That's right! He was Brutus the Barber Beefcake's manager on the cruise. He escorted Brutus to all his appearances, managed him during the Legend's Meet and Greet and made sure to pause the line to make sure Brutus stayed hydrated. Hear all of these stories about the cruise and many more on this weeks episode of The Matthew Mania Podcast! Thanks for joining us. Demolition vs Strongbow BrothersThe Demolition was formed in January 1987. It started with Bill Eadie as Ax and Randy Colley, formerly Moondog Rex. He wrestled as Smach. Colley was later replaced by Barry Darsow as Smash because so many people remembered Colley as Moondog Rex. The Demolition won the WWF Tag Team Titles from Rick Martel and Tito Santana. Due to injuries, Ventura had to stop wrestling which allowed Adonis to form a new tag team, North and SOuth Connection with Dick Murdoch. The reason they were called North and South Connection was that Adrain was from New York, and Dick was from Texas. Their lifestyles were told within the storyline alongside Mean Gene Okerlund. Just three months in the WWE, they defeated the North and South Connection (Adrain Adonis & Dick Murdoch) to become the new World Tag Team Champions. They would lose to the Foreign Legion and regain their titles again as two time champs. Their championship run did not last as they fell to the Dream Team (Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Greg Valentine). The tag team broke up and had successful singles competition careers. On Jan 21, 1980, Wild Samoans debuted at Madison Square Garden and defeated the champions Ivan Putski & Tito Santana. However, the result was a double countout and the titles remained with Putski and Santana. On April 12, 1980, nearly three months later, Wild Samoans got their revenge and executed their signature move, double headbutt with their finisher, Samoan Drop, for the pin and became tag team champions. I was able to score an interview with one of the most memorable wrestlers of all time. Brutus the Barber Beefcake's flamboyant style and hair cutting antics made for many memorable wrestling matches. Edward Harrison Leslie is an American retired professional wrestler, best known for his work in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) under the ring name Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake. He later worked for World Championship Wrestling (WCW) under a variety of names. Leslie held nine titles throughout his career, and is a former WWF World Tag Team Champion with Greg Valentine. He also competed for major singles titles on pay-per-view and television, headlining the Starrcade 1994, in a match against then-WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan as well challenging then-Intercontinental Champion The Honky Tonk Man at WrestleMania IV. Leslie was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2019 by Hulk Hogan. SUBSCRIBE to watch more videos like this one! We're coming at you this week with a two-for-one Christmas Eve Genius Cast special with interviews with “Hotshot” Danny Duggan and one of the greatest wrestlers to ever don a pair of tights, Terry Funk! You may have heard about the recent debacle Danny Duggan had where he called out Brutus the Barber Beefcake last month for being unprofessional and skipping dates on the CWE tour up in Canada. This was all over the wrestling news sites and it prompted a hefty response from Beefcake himself. We're excited to have Danny on our show where he talks openly about what happened in detail. A lot of dirt is dished and you don't want to miss this portion of the show! In our conversation with Terry Funk, he updates us on how he is feeling, who he believes is really behind the booking of WWE (it's not who you think), which prominent McMahon is involved in MMA, memories of his feud with Lanny where he stripped him naked in front of a crowd and tried to make him wrestle a woman, the Poffo/Funk family connection, and so much more! Also discussed in this week's episode: - Where in the world is Lanny? - Why in the world did Lanny travel from warm Florida to the arctic tundra of Nova Scotia, Canada last weekend? - Turning loss into a positive this Christmas - Lanny's memories of visiting Germany - Thoughts on whether or not Miss Elizabeth's will go into the WWE Hall of Fame - Lanny's dream opponent - Now that the WWE has the performance center, would Lanny consider coaching? And if Randy were still with us, would he have coached? - Was Hulk Hogan and Randy really trying to work things out near the end of his life? Or was Hogan seeking attention? - Memories of Phil Golden's All Star Wrestling in Paducah, Kentucky - Did Angelo and Judy Poffo have family connections in Kentucky leading them to bring the family there in the 1970s? - Randy's relationship with the Ultimate Warrior - Favorite memories of Scott Steiner - How the money worked back in the earlier days of WWF: How did Lanny decide what to save and what to spend? - The over-the-top-rope "Leaping" Lanny Botch against Jake Roberts at Madison Square Garden in 1987 ...and more!
