That's in addition to Ruben Vardanyan, the former head of Karabakh's separatist government, who was charged with financing terrorism after his arrest while fleeing through the Lachin corridor.

The Lachin corridor, the lifeline road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, has been blocked by Azerbaijiani protesters since December 12. A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in the Caucasus, as Azerbaijan is blockading the Lachin corridor, the main road in Nagorno Karabakh, or Artsakh. Azerbaijan's blockade, which has been ongoing since December 12, has deprived some 120,000 Armenians in Artsakh of food, medicine and other vital supplies, and the Armenian foreign ministry has accused Azerbaijan of "ethnic cleansing." Decenas de familias armenias empacan sus maletas a regañadientes en Nagorno-Karabaj, un enclave en disputa en el corazón del Cáucaso donde una breve guerra entre Armenia y Azerbaiyán cobró más de 6.500 vidas en 2020. Aghavno, como otros dos pueblos en el corredor de Lachin, forma parte del territorio cedido por Armenia a Azerbaiyán en virtud de los acuerdos de alto el fuego de 2020. Like Rafik and Susan, dozens of Armenian families are reluctantly packing their bags in Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed enclave in the heart of the Caucasus where a brief war between Armenia and Azerbaijan claimed more than 6,500 lives in 2020. Aghavno, like two other villages in the Lachin corridor, is part of the territory ceded by Armenia to Azerbaijan in virtue of the 2020 ceasefire agreements. FRANCE 24's team met some of those forced to evacuate their homes.

Clashes have broken out between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Karabakh, with Baku accusing Yerevan of not meeting provisions of a 2020 peace deal. The latest fighting broke out near the Lachin corridor and other places along the ‘Line of Contact'. In 2020, a war broke out in the region, killing more than 6,600 people. Azerbaijan, with support from Türkiye, was able to reclaim large parts of Karabakh. The fighting eventually stopped under a Russian-brokered peace deal. Karabakh is internationally recognised as being part of Azerbaijan but has been illegally occupied by Armenia since the 1990s.
