Die Ukraine braucht zusätzliche Waffenlieferungen, um sich gegen Russland verteidigen zu können. "Wir leiden unter einem Mangel an Raketen und wir brauchen Langstreckenfähigkeiten, auch für den Einsatz auf russischem Territorium", forderte Wolodymyr Selenskyj bei einem Treffen auf dem deutschen US-Luftwaffenstützpunkt Ramstein. Der ukrainische Präsident kritisierte, dass ein beträchtlicher Anteil versprochener Luftabwehrsysteme noch nicht an die ukrainischen Streitkräfte geliefert worden sei. Er forderte auch die Bereitstellung weiterer F-16 Kampfjets. Die Ukraine leide "derzeit unter den stärksten Luftangriffen seit Kriegsbeginn", sagte Verteidigungsminister Boris Pistorius auf dem Treffen der Ukraine-Kontaktgruppe und sagte dabei die Lieferung von 12 Panzerhaubitzen zu. Im Gespräch mit Gustav Gressel vom European Council on Foreign Relations bespricht Anna Engelke, warum militärische und wirtschaftliche Unterstützung für die Ukraine auch dauerhaft wichtig ist. „Die westliche Unterstützung, die jetzt schon nur am Minimum die Ukraine im Kampf gehalten hat, die ist alles andere als sicher im nächsten Jahr“, warnt Gressel. Sehr viele ukrainische Soldaten sind so schwer verletzt, dass sie nicht mehr für ihr Land kämpfen können. Die höchsten Verluste gibt es im Moment offenbar bei den Sanitätern. Die Russen würden regelrecht Jagd machen auf die Truppen beim Bergen von Verwundeten. Das sei ohne Schützenpanzer in manchen Frontabschnitten unmöglich, erklärt Gustav Gressel im Podcast. Der Militärexperte vom European Council on Foreign Relations war gerade wieder in der Ukraine und beschreibt, wie sehr die Soldaten unter dem Munitionsmangel leiden. Viele Ankündigungen aus der EU seien bis heute nicht eingetroffen, die F-16 Kampfflugzeuge kämen wegen Bedenken aus Washington auch verspätet. Mit Blick auf die rasche Unterstützung des Westens in Israel würden sich viele Ukrainer als Staat zweiter Klasse fühlen. Zynisch und frustriert, so das Fazit von Anna Engelke über den Reisebericht. Politisch sei der Krieg eben schlecht gemanagt, antwortet Gressel. Es gebe bei den Hilfspaketen keine langfristige Planung. „Kannst du ein Esel dazustellen? Ich habe schon ein Maultier geschickt.“ - so nimmt der Militärexperte nach zwei Jahren Krieg die Abstimmung unter den westlichen Ländern wahr. Einziger Hoffnungsschimmer bleibe die Kreativität der Ukrainer, mit den Waffensystemen umzugehen. Wegen zunehmender Drohnenangriffe werden die Amerikaner keine Abrams Kampfpanzer mehr liefern. Die Ukraine hat die amerikanischen Kurzstreckenraketen ATACMS erstmals abgefeuert und auf einem Militärflughafen offenbar neun russische Hubschrauber zerstört. Die Raketen wären ansonsten in den USA verschrottet worden. Sie haben eine Reichweite von 160 Kilometern. Das ist doppelt so weit wie die bislang eingesetzten HIMARS-Raketen. Auch 31 Kampfpanzer vom Typ M1 Abrams aus den USA sind in der Ukraine angekommen. Die Waffenlieferungen sind wichtig, weil offenbar Russland wieder in die Offensive kommt. So schätzt es zumindest Gustav Gressel ein. Der Militärexperte von der Denkfabrik ECFR, dem European Council on Foreign Relations, wirft im Podcast auch einen Blick in den Nahen Osten und bewertet einen möglichen Häuserkampf für die israelische Armee als psychologisch sehr belastend. Eine Bodenoffensive benötige enorme Kräfte an Personal und einen sehr hohen Stand an Ausbildung. Gleichzeitig müssten die Soldaten der Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Rücksicht nehmen auf die Geiseln. 1: I get why Caleb took the position he did to cut off incoming balls to Gressel but when those balls find Jullian, good grief. Gressel only needs half a yard to cross in a quality ball and Caleb gave him more than that.    2: We attempted to apply pressures in Columbus' half we just didn't win the ball off of them nearly enough and the few times we did, we didn't launch into a meaningful attack after.    3: It's a little jarring to play a team like Columbus only a few days after a team like Philly and it showed. Columbus passed at 91% and won 8 corners in the first half alone. That should tell you everything you need to know about how effective we let them be. They kept the ball on the ground and moved it around effectively and we didn't do enough to break up their rhythm. Credit to our defense for a few good moments and some key tackles because without those, it's 2-0 Columbus at the half.    4: Even with Miles scoring the winner and even with the goal we conceded I think MOTM goes to Guz for me. Maybe his distribution wasn't the best at times, but his gloves kept us in this one.    5: This was billed as a an exciting match where both teams wanted the ball. Well it was exciting (and frustrating in equal measure) but I only saw one team that wanted the ball. Try as we might, we just could not get the ball off their feet. I give Columbus a lot of credit. They did not change their approach one bit at any time. Even kicking off directly after our equalizer, they were quick, aggressive and progressed the ball quickly on the ground. They basically played the type of game we like to play. They looked a contender for MLS cup and we looked like maybe we'll get out of the first round.

We're back with another packed AFTN Soccer Show. Er hat fünf Jahre als Korrespondent in Stockholm gearbeitet und erläutert, welche Vorteile der Beitritt für die NATO und Skandinavien hat. Im Interview mit Gustav Gressel von der Denkfabrik ECFR geht es um den Wunsch der Ukraine, der NATO beizutreten und um die ukrainische Gegenoffensive. Der ehemalige Offizier des österreichischen Bundesheeres war bis Samstag noch in Kiew und erzählt eindrücklich, wie "zermürbend der Krieg" für Land und Leute ist. Nach einer Umfrage des internationalen Soziologie-Instituts in Kiew haben 78% der Ukrainerinnen und Ukrainer Freunde und Verwandte, die entweder ums Leben gekommen oder verwundet worden sind. Für den Verteidigungsexperten Gressel ist klar: „Wir bezahlen jetzt die Zeche für 30 Jahre Faulenzen im Rüstungs- und Militärbereich.” Die Ukraine sei nicht gut versorgt, benötige mehr militärische Unterstützung aus dem Westen und "keinen Eiertanz um einzelne Syteme". Für ihre Offensive braucht die Ukraine Nachschub: Mehr Schützenpanzer, Drohnen und Fliegerabwehrmunition. Es gibt aber kaum Anzeichen dafür, dass der Westen weiterhin genug liefert. Das sagt Militärexperte Gustav Gressel im Gespräch mit Anna Engelke. „Wir streiten in Deutschland über Wärmepumpen, aber nicht darüber, wie wir Leopard- oder Puma-Bestellungen schneller hinbekommen“, so der ehemalige Offizier im österreichischen Bundesheer. Zwar gebe es langfristige Ertüchtigungen der Ukraine, etwa durch ein neues Panzerwerk von Rheinmetall, dies zeige aber erst in rund fünf Jahren Resultate. Die schwierigste Aufgabe sei es, durch das russische Verteidigungsbollwerk zu kommen, das aus bis zu drei russischen Verteidigungslinien besteht.
