Former referee Mark Halsey is with us for this week's episode talking through his love for Man City, battles with Craig Bellamy, choice words for Rio Ferdinand, dealing with Marouane Fellaini and the support of the football fraternity during his cancer battle.
It's a strange time in Beijing right now, with mandatory testing and food flying off the shelves at supermarkets. Sports take a back seat, as Mark and Haig brace for a possible lockdown (0:52). Will the Asian Games in Hangzhou — scheduled for September this year — be postponed (6:02)? What kind of spectacle could we expect – bubble or not (8:21)? Haig talks about Shannon Bufton, a competitive cyclist turned Beijing bike maker and route planner (9:20).We catch up again with Cameron Wilson, who — one month later — is still in lockdown (15:00). He shares his lows of the past month, plus the occasional high (17:53), but at least the food situation has improved with the arrival of an army of delivery drivers (19:24). China's case-counting headscratcher — and the new definition of cases “in society” — has once again muddied the situation (20:02). It's a little like Lord of the Flies in Cammy's compound, with four recent cases, despite weeks of being locked at home (21:26). Cammy hits his stride here, arguing that this outbreak was entirely predictable, and asks why on earth more people haven't been vaccinated (23:00). He's been in Shanghai for more than 16 years: Has he reached his limit (24:58)?In a seamless transition to football, former Manchester United and Belgium player Marouane Fellaini has returned to China ahead of the start of the CSL season (27:43), which will expand from 16 to 18 teams this year, despite the widespread financial insecurity (29:07). Could a small Shandong city host this year's league in a bubble (29:28)? And is the 2023 Asian Cup, set for China next June, in doubt (31:12)? When is — or should be — the cutoff date for making a decision on whether or not to hold it here (32:42)? Finally, Cameron leaves us with a story about banging pots and yelling out of the window (34:00).See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Dave Prentice and Gavin Buckland join Sam Carroll for your Friday edition of the Royal Blue podcast to look ahead to Sunday's visit of West Ham United to L4. The match will mark the return of David Moyes, along with Kurt Zouma and Nikola Vlasic, to Everton. It's now more than nine years since Moyes left the Blues for Manchester United. His derisory bids for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines after he moved to United soured his relationship with Evertonians. But, with time proving just what a good job he did at Goodison Park, has that frostiness cooled? Equally, are Blues taking Rafa Benitez, who used to go up against Moyes when he was in charge of Liverpool, closer to their hearts? Both questions are discussed by Sam, Gav and Prenno, who held an exclusive interview with Benitez for the Liverpool ECHO this week, which you can read by clicking the links below. And with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin still sidelined, the panel also ask whether Sunday is the perfect time for Salomon Rondon to kick start his Everton career. The Athletic's Greg O'Keeffe and Patrick Boyland discuss the impact of Richarlison's absence now that they're three games without a win. They look at the defeat to Newcastle and Ancelotti's team-selection, including the keeper. Is he right to bring back Pickford against Manchester United? Plus, they reflect on the Women's FA Cup Final and reminisce over Marouane Fellaini's Everton career. SPECIAL OFFER! Right now you can subscribe to The Athletic for just £1 a week. In this week's episode, I discuss the first mistake of Solskjaer's time in charge, what players proved to me that they're not good enough to play for Manchester United, Marouane Fellaini's transfer and the end of an infamous era at the club, and reveal the reasons why I feel confident heading into the PSG match. I also make predictions ahead of the coming match against Fulham, and feature another instalment of the Power Rankings.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United have maintained their unbeaten run and stretched it to 10 games with a draw against Burnley and a win against Leicester City.Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk through a huge number of issues, considering the fitness of the United players, a new contract for Anthony Martial, the trials and tribulations of Alexis Sanchez, the departure of Marouane Fellaini and Pogba and Rashford's brilliance. There's even more than that, too. Plus our regular, extensive youth, loan and women's round-up with a few transfer deals and some good and bad results. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Host Tom White is joined by Dharmesh Sheth and Pete Hall to discuss the fallout from another dramatic Deadline Day. They name their winners and losers and give their assessment on the clubs that secured the best business this January. Newcastle smashed their transfer record for the first time since 2005 with Miguel Almiron arriving at St James’ Park for £21m. But will that quell the fans’ discontent towards the ownership and convince manager Rafa Benitez to stay at the club? The panel debate whether the exit of Marouane Fellaini signals the start of a new era at Manchester United, while they discuss the importance of Anthony Martial signing a new contract. Finally, they look ahead to the summer transfer window and what the future may hold for the likes of Eden Hazard, Marko Arnautovic, Toby Alderweireld and Wilfried Zaha.
Host Rich Fay is joined by MEN football writers Samuel Luckhurst and Charlotte Duncker to review the mid-week draw against Burnley and talk about United's January transfer window. The panel react to the news of Anthony Martial's contract extension, Marouane Fellaini's impending transfer to China and discuss whether or not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's future is now in his own hands. Also on the agenda in this two-part episode are any potential deals that United fans could expect on Transfer Deadline Day, and in part two the panel will preview the trip to Leicester City and review Manchester United's 2018/19 transfer activity as a whole.

#357. José Mourinho enjoyed it. Marouane Fellaini enjoyed it. But did the watching public enjoy it? The Belgian's late winner against Young Boys ensured qualification for the Champions League Round of 16, but it capped another mediocre performance in a mediocre week from Mourinho's team. Ed & Paul discuss United's games against Young Boys and Crystal Palace, concluding that despite victory on Tuesday, it has been another disappointing few days for the club.No Question About That is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music and all good podcast apps. We are back after a brief hiatus to talk about some big results across the world's game. We start with the most recent result, Mourinho RKO'ing some Gatorade bottles as Marouane Fellaini turned out to be the hero once again and send Manchester United to the Knockout Round of the Champions League. We then move to the rest of the Champions League results before using that to talk a little about the new Sergio Ramos Footie Leaks info. Some stops in MLS and around the various leagues in Europe rounds out the episode! Keep being awesome and we will keep uploading episodes (as much as we can).
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk a good 2-1 win away to Watford as Romelu Lukaku scores with his belly and Chris Smalling with a stunning Zidane-esque strike. They look at Alexis Sanchez and his Manchester United future as well as Marouane Fellaini and the Belgian’s ever-increasing importance in the Reds’ midfield. As always, we have our regular and extensive youth and loan round-up with Mason Greenwood scoring a hat-trick for the under-18s.Cheers for listening, enjoy the show! Manchester United finally got back to winning ways against Burnley and just as they were getting some momentum the players have flown off on international duty.In this week's episode of Manchester is Red writers Charlotte Duncker, Ciaran Kelly and Liam Corless discuss United's split start to the season with Jose Mourinho's side having won two and lost two in the opening four games.Marouane Fellaini returned for United against Burnley and excelled in a deep lying midfield role and our writers discuss whether that new role for the Belgian could be key to United's success this season.Another hot topic of discussion is Paul Pogba who has refused to rule out a move to Barcelona as he addressed speculation about his future earlier today while on international duty. Manchester United got back to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 win over Burnley, who are having a disaster season thus far and probably face a relegation fight unless things pick up.Dale is joined this week by Raman and Mike to discuss the game and other matters ahead of the international break.Marouane Fellaini put in a solid display against The Clarets, therefore, deserves praise and Luke Shaw continued his great form to win Manchester United Player of the Month for August.Worryingly, there were few players to compete with Shaw for that reward, as Raman points out Paul Pogba has yet to put in a performance better than our other midfielders this season. He's a World Cup winner now. The go-to guy. It's time he realises that and takes responsibility. Football has edged even closer to home following a 2-0 victory over Sweden on Saturday. Former England player Jamie Carragher joins Thom Gibbs to discuss who impressed, who has more work to do, and how on earth you mark Harry Maguire in set pieces. We speak with Chief Sports Writer Paul Hayward, who's been covering the tournament out in Russia, to get his thoughts on whether England can rewrite Italia '90, what Gareth Southgate has been like to speak with, and ask when is appropriate to open the top of a bus for a parade through London. Plus Jim White joins to discuss the all European semi final lineup, find out what Croatia can do to defeat England, and the battle we're all looking forward to seeing: Marouane Fellaini versus N'Golo Kante. Yet more scenes so unbelievable that we all need to accept that this World Cup is crazy as Belgium come from two down to beat a spirited Japan, with super subs Marouane Fellaini and Nacer Chadli. Prior to the game a hitherto successful psychic octopus was killed in Japan. Makes you think. Alongside this there’s time to look over Neymar’s theatrics, Brazil’s stoic professionalism and we of course take the opportunity to look ahead to England vs Colombia, and even a little further, as we get a little carried away while we have the chance. Juli halten. Danach komme, was wolle. In a week where everyone is still complaining about the bloody international break, the team are back to once again throw the lifejacket of premier league discussion into the bleak waters of England vs Lithuania. For the Question No One is Asking this week, we’ll be probing into the question which underlies most of the problems of ‘Broken Britain’: whose Everton team was better- Ronald Koeman’s or David Moyes’? Expect plentiful references to Tony Hibbert, Duncan Ferguson, Marouane Fellaini, the utter purposelessness of life and the inevitability of an empty, painful death. All this and more beside in this week's episode of A Team of John O'Sheas...

In a week where Fergie Time was rechristened Jose Time, the team are back like Marouane Fellaini to rescue all from the crush that is the world of football. Inspired by watching Tottenham at the weekend, we're getting hateful - our Question that No One is Asking this week is: who is in your Most Hated XI? Before that though, we'll be going through a number of Talking Points: Jon Mackenzie, the thinking man's football pundit, was too busy thinking about the Bundesliga to post up a twitter poll this week, so he'll be talking Germany for the meager two and a half minute slot. In the continuing downward spiral that is Robin's life, he's now unemployed and what's worse, he spent some of his ample time of watching Spurs v Liverpool - a match so devoid of quality that it disproved his theory from last week that Championship games are more entertaining because they're more prone to errors. Instead, he suggests that pitches are now too small for teams at the highest level. Speaking of the Championship, Tom McMinigal's better half, Sam Wimpenny, has watched his beloved Huddersfield Town soar to the top of the league. In light of David Wagner and Rafael Benitez, he asks, "Do Championship managers need Championship experience?" Jon's turned his enormous brain towards Organised Fun this week as well. He'll have us guessing which players slot into Werner Herzog's All Time XI. All this and much more beside in this week's episode of A Team of John O'Sheas.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait speak with delight of Manchester United’s start to the season, this time a 2-0 win at home to Southampton. Paul Pogba made his (second) debut, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored another two goals, and Marouane Fellaini resembled something of a footballer; in fact, he was our man of the match. We also discuss the Mata/Mkhitaryan enigma, who is our most hated player in the Premier League, not forgetting our weekly youth and loan round-up, too. As Harry mentions in the outro, we shall be silent next week due to various date clashes. In the meantime, check out our youth season preview with the excellent Tracey Germaine (S2E5) here. Wherein Our Heroes and Brendan once again convene to complete their Euro 2016 preview for all of Gafferdom. Groups D and E are rife with intrigue while Group F seems to be the dud of the bunch. Will Spain sizzle like chorizo in a hot pan or will their form cool like a fresh gazpacho? We waffle on whether Belgium can secure top spot in Group E, or if the Italians can defy their role as non-favourites. Will Iceland live up to expectations as the darlings of the tournament? Also, Marouane Fellaini adopts a Valderrama look, and we dig. #227. Europe awaits after United's hard-fought (i.e lucky!) victory over Crystal Palace in south London on Saturday. #210. This week, Paul & Ed try and keep a straight face whilst discussing United's convincing win over Southampton, and look back on a slightly better United performance against Stoke. They discuss Marouane Fellaini in terms that will be more familiar to long-time listeners than the recent praise he's received, resurrect the reverse-curse-of-the-Rantcast and veer off on a massive tangent about whether or not Wayne Rooney has fulfilled his potential.
