Righteousness can only grow from soil where peace is sown. Today we talk about what that means and how we can better manage the seeds we sow.
"Even as the raging sea heaves and falls, remain untormented within the confines of your own mind. Embrace the tumult as inevitable, yet harmless, for it lies beyond your sphere of control, affecting you not without your own consent. Instead, sow seeds of peace, strength and virtue in the fertile soil of your mind, to nourish the roots of your fortitude. It is here, within your own dominion, you can cultivate true tranquillity amid the world's ceaseless tumult, a serene sanctuary impervious to the fleeting gusts and storms of external circumstance" - Stoicism by Robots Support Stoicism by Robots on Patreon and get access to new and original Stoic passages crafted by our AI's unique interpretation of Stoic principles. This summer, Molly, the adult who works on This Teenage Life, visited Seeds of Peace International Camp. She spoke with from youth from the Middle East and South Asia who had taken the leap to meet folks "the other side." Many of them defied the opinions of their political leaders and communities, traveling thousands of miles to speak with teenagers on the opposite side of their national conflict. In this episode, teens from Seeds of Peace shared their experience doing what they think is right in order to hear from their neighbors and nominal enemies. Then teens from TTL share their own experiences of connecting with folks from another side in their daily lives.
SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Corinthians 3:15-4:1, 3-6 Matthew 5:20-26 Anger is not a fleeting emotion. It is a force that takes controls when it is left uncontrolled. The steam of uncontrolled anger expresses itself in words, actions and inactions with disastrous consequences. Friendships have been destroyed because of anger; marriages have broken down because of anger; people languishing in prison because of anger; civil and world wars have snuffed out the lives of millions because of anger. Uncontrolled anger is an escalator to the gate of hell. In narrating Jesus' sermon on the mount, Matthew presents us with six antithesis that...Article Link

When a well-known pastor was asked by a sceptic, ‘Do you believe there is such a thing as a real devil?' he smiled and replied, ‘Have you ever been to an annual church business meeting?' Seriously, if you have been a church member for any length of time, you know that strife rears its ugly head in the family of God just like it does everywhere else. Paul and Barnabas, a brilliant ministry team, allowed their differences over John Mark to separate them to where they could no longer work together. Later Paul changed his mind, but the die was already cast. He appealed ‘to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News' (Philippians 4:2-3 NLT). Strife hinders our prayers, takes our focus off lost souls, and makes us ineffective in our ministry. We must learn to respect each other's talents, perspectives, and positions instead of envying them. In other words, learn to disagree without being disagreeable. The Bible says: ‘Where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace' (James 3:16-18 KJV). God blesses peacemakers (see Matthew 5:9), so when strife arises in your church, make it your mission to sow seeds of peace!
Why is peace one of the most important things we can ever do? What is band-aid safety and how can we avoid it and create real safety instead? And what does peace look like in our society? Big questions that we are deep diving into with Kwabi Amoah-Forson founder of The Peace Bus Humanitarian Aid Organization, on a mission to build a better future through a new movement of peace. In this episode, we talk about what peace means around the world, why it is inextricably linked to human progress, planting seeds of peace across a nation and why love is always the right answer. I've been thinking about the context in which we're living at the moment, and the fear, anxiety and anger that seems to be part of our whole cultural experience. This is a conversation I shared with two people who are very close to me. Dr. Ken Derksen who is close to me - maybe because he's my neighbour and my doctor. We share our journey in Christ together. He's also a board member on one of the larger churches in our area. Heidi Allen is - has the misfortune for several decades to be my daughter. She's a graduate of Western University in Music, a graduate of Regent College in Theological Studies, and has a degree now in Psychotherapy, so she has her own psychotherapy practice.

In March we heard from Dara Stepanek about the Peace Academy of the Sciences and Arts. She described it as a place where children and teens could “learn by being.” We decided it would be fun to revisit this special place to find out how their summer program, Seeds of Peace, had gone. We are pleased to have one of their summer teachers, Sandra Sarrouf, and two parents, Lata and Grace, and their children, Ivy, Lily and Hugo, all of whom have been supporters of Peace Academy from its beginning. We'll hear what special summer projects they enjoyed during Seeds of Peace, and how the values and approaches to learning at Peace Academy are unique in children's education. “Our culture seems to be inflamed in controversy. There's not a lack of tense situations shaping our current moment in human history, from politics to pandemics, from racial injustice to righteous indignation. How do we manage this in our own homes, across opinions, across cultural divides, among our friendships? How [do we] have tough conversations that reflect the character of Christ?” Chris Brooks The only answer to the vital questions that Chris Brooks raises is the wisdom from above that God promises to give in answer to prayer. In part two of the message we titled “Sowing Seeds of Peace,” we unpacked from James 3:17-18 the Christ-exalting description of wisdom from above that we desperately need to sow seeds of peace in this divided world.

Bynum also talks about how school gardens can be a focal point for collaboration and building communities beyond the classroom.
Jesse interviews Marc Daniels – founder of Weed Out Hate. He is taking his grandfather’s vision of nurturing trees and shrubs which connection home owners to nature, to the next level; intending to better connect future generations of gardeners, and kindergartners with nature for the higher purpose of improving the fabric of society. Weed Out Hate removes the obstacles that prevent us from feeling and drawing upon the strong roots that we already have; and assists in enriching and stimulating our education roots. Marc says that it empowers even the smallest child to condition his future self as well as the future garden through learning to remove acculturated prejudice. He has spent 30 years of his professional life working with the green industry; and the past 5 years focused on researching the spiritual, cultural, and ecological roots of global gardening trends; and feels it is time to sow the seeds of inspiration and wisdom. We look at Marc’s Weed Out Hate organization, Peace Seeds, and Selma. The Seeds of Peace Collective arrived in Pittsburgh with a bus equipped to prepare meals for G20 demonstrators. Its bus, parked legally in Oakland, was towed this weekend and one member of the collective was arrested. After delay and a $200 payment, the bus was returned. Vincent Eirene of Blastfurnace Radio gives us this report.
Key Lesson: The real reason we stress ourselves over the way others behave -- and are so quick to judge them for their irritating behavior -- is as follows: by blaming others for how we feel in the moment . . . then our negative state is always the fault of someone else.
