Anne Clark in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.anneclarkofficial.com/ https://anneclarkofficial.bandcamp.com/ English poet, singer and songwriter. Her first album, The Sitting Room, was released in 1982, and she has released over a dozen albums since then. Her poetry work with experimental musicians occupies a region bounded roughly by electronic, dance (techno applies on occasion) and possibly avant-garde genres, with varying hard as well as romantic and orchestral styles. Clark is mainly a spoken word artist. Many of her lyrics deal critically with the imperfections of humanity, everyday life, and politics. Especially in her early works she created a gloomy, melancholy atmosphere bordering on weltschmerz. She has been considered one of the pioneers in the spoken-word music genre, as well as being acclaimed for her synth-pop and new wave music, especially across Europe.

Over halfway through series two of Britcom Goes to the Movies we're back to the 1960s....and the 50s as we look at Spike Milliagn, the Goon Show, and the Post-Apocalyptic surreal comedy The Bed Sitting Room. This is the first of our episodes in which we look at a radio show as our source material (if you don't include Hancock's Half Hour for The Rebel in series one).   This film contains two of the three (or is it four) Goons as well as a plethora of British comedy talent of the time. Many of whom we've seen appear in previous episodes, including Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Frank Thornton, and of course Arthur Lowe, who is the Britcom Goes to the Movies record appearance maker so far. An exploration of editing and tape composition with the voice as a key source of audio material. This is an interpretative reading of the poem "Sirens" from chapter 11 of the novel Ulysses by James Joyce. This release on the Philips Prospective 21e Siècle is shorter than the one released around the same time on the Turnabout label in America. It omits the spoken sequence at the beginning where Berberian recites the words prior to them being manipulated on tape. John Cage reads previously prepared stories and anecdotes, David Tudor performs electronic music at the same time with no Earthly connection between the two.
