Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff's seminal animated film, "The Lion King," represented the pinnacle of success for traditional Disney animation...and the beginning of its downfall. Twenty-five years and numerous regime turnovers later, the Disney corporation has remade "The Lion King" under the direction of "Iron Man's" Jon Favreau. Marketed strangely as a "live action" remake, it is a scene-by-scene (and almost shot-by-shot) rehash animated with photorealistic CGI animals and environments. Can the new version hold a candle to the old? How did the original "Lion King" manage to both break box office records and plant the seeds for the death of American traditional (hand-drawn) animation? Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff's seminal animated film, "The Lion King," represented the pinnacle of success for traditional Disney animation...and the beginning of its downfall.
