Ben and Tumaini Carayol dust off the NCR machine to bring you a look at the 2023 French Open women's and men's draws, breaking down the contenders and darkhorses while touching on several of the big stories of the past few months while the show has been on hiatus (Relatedly, Ben's forthcoming book on Naomi Osaka is now available for pre-order!) Can Iga Swiatek reestablish her dominance on the women's side at her favorite tournament? How clear a favorite is Carlos Alcaraz on the men's side? Before that, we start with a discussion of two notable absences: Rafael Nadal, the 14-time champion who hasn't played in months due to a persistent psoas injury, and Simona Halep, a former champion and #1 who has taken an increasingly vocal and outspoken stance as she tries to rally support against anti-doping authorities following her positive test for a blood doping agent last year. We also discuss the extended formats of the Madrid and Rome Masters 1000 events, changes which have been poorly received across the board. Thanks for listening! Bon voyage, bonne chance, bonne nuit!

Aspiring artist Arno Funke, aka Dagobert, just wanted to make a living doing what he loved. And he did, for a time, because in addition to art he loved bombs and extortion plots, and weird contraptions. His antics captivated a nation and made for great headlines, but those kind of capers just can't last. Luckily, the artist in him prevailed and he was able to delight and captivate the public in a legal way after all. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
A shorthanded cast tackles the tough issues: incompetence in the US government at federal and state levels (Oh, Missouri, how I love you so), senior pranks gone too far in the wrong direction, the NSA and how Hollywood could capitalize, messing with the moon's natural cycle, and Morbius (2022) starring Matt Smith and Jared Leto.
We are delighted to return to you, and to return to Paris, and to return our favorite annual episode title! Ben and Tumaini Carayol start this French Open draw show with a bit first on the big news of the day, which was the ATP and WTA deciding to withhold ranking points from this year's Wimbledon Championships because of the tournament banning Russian and Belarusian players. What effect will this have on the tournament, the players, and the outlook for the #1 ranking in men's tennis? We then break down the French Open draws, starting with the women and prohibitive favorite Iga Swiatek. Who or what can stop her from cruising onward to her second French Open title? We also discuss two of the most compelling floaters, Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu. On the men's side, we discuss the top-heavy draw, how the three-horse race of Djokovic, Nadal, and Alcaraz has set up, and who can take advantages of the openings on the bottom half. Thank y'all for listening! Bonsoiree!
Allison is looking for a new roommate after breaking up with her boyfriend when she finds out he cheated on her. After running through the application process she meets Hedra (Hedy) and the two women start to become good friends. Maybe a little TOO good, because Hedy doesn't want to be friends with Allison. She was to BE Allison. Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh star in Single White Female. Trailer:

Kiran hosts (and totally forgets to introduce himself) as we start off with the Champions League draw...and the redraw. A Super League storyline emerges as P$G draw an ironically angry Real Madrid. Man United draw Ateltico as Pranav waffles over which team he could possibly root for. Chelsea draw Lille both times, proving they rigged everything and everything is controlled by Daddy Abramovich. Liverpool who've played in the champions league and the European Cup for a billion years make their second trip to the San Siro in like 3 months after somehow never having been there before. The Europa League draw pits BarceLOLna against Napoli which is extremely unfortunate but also really, really funny. Premier League action sees Man City win (omg wowee) and Chelsea drop points to Wolves. Arsenal's youngsters peed on Leeds which brings up questions about everyone's favorite guy on a bucket. Liverpool's trip to North London ends in... well literally everything except for a red card for England's Golden Boy, an awarded penalty, and Paul Tierney's sacking. This episode features a special segment called "Pranav says the same thing 42 times as he talks about the Liverpool-Spurs clash because what the heck was that"--5 star segment. Highly recommend. Roma trounce Atalanta extremely convincingly for some reason despite them already spiritually being in the middle of Jose's third season in charge. There are some predictions made too but I'm really hungry so I'm gonna stop writing and you're gonna have to listen to figure out what else has been thrown in there.
What if I told you that the boys had never seen the movie, Titanic until this week? What if I told you that we loved it so much we had to experience it first-hand? Hypothetically, what if Clase had Mason and Landen drop "los trousers" and dunk their skunks? Who would last longest? .... HYPOTHETICALLY, of course... What if... hypothetically... Clase put on his birthday suit and forced Mason and Landen to draw him like one of Jack's french girls...? And... hypothetically... the games could be called "Nautical Nonsense", "Frozen Nuts", and "Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls"... What a... haha... what an episode that'd make, huh? I'll just say this and then let you make an adult decision to partake or not... The video version on YouTube is everything you'd want it to be. Welcome to movie club. An episode inspired by a movie we've never seen. Titanic. Brrr. Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/clasedegraff)

It's our favorite annual episode title! Ben and Courtney dive deep into the draws of Roland Garros to cover themselves in tidbits and terre battue about this draw. Defending champions Rafael Nadal and Iga Swiatek hit together on Saturday; how likely was it that Nadal was going to know anything about possible Swiatek first round opponents? We explore. On the women we go into folks including Barty, Swiatek, Kenin, Pliskova, Stephens, Muguruza, Sabalenka, Serena, Andreescu, and Osaka, while the men's side is more a conversation about how loaded the top half is around Rafael Nadal, and the opportunities it presents for the lads on the bottom. Brea Grant will not let 2020 stand in her way. In addition to writing two films, directing one, and starring in several others, Grant also recently launched a new graphic novel from Six Foot Press. "Mary: The Adventures of Mary Shelley's Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Granddaughter" is a beautiful genre celebration purposefully linked to an extremely relatable coming-of-age saga.We cannot think of a better way to celebrate Halloween than hanging out with Grant in the Creator Corner and discussing her compulsion to explore the legacy of a literary icon. Plus, there is some serious chatter regarding the pros and cons of Sexy vs. Stitchy Frankenstein monsters. Can you guess where Lisa falls on this matter? It's a trick question. After listening to this episode, you'll want to continue your Brea Grant obsession by diving into her podcast, Reading Glasses. Another Slam approaches at a time of year which has never held a Slam before, so Ben and Courtney try to gather their physical and mental strength to take on what is shaping up to be an incredibly challenging Slam in many ways. We start with the women, where Simona Halep is a clear favorite, but parity abounds also in women's tennis, as always. Garbine Muguruza appears set for success, and Serena and Azarenka are also intriguing in a Slam which may reward power more than the average French Open. On the men's side we discuss Novak Djokovic's status as favorite, and detour into topics such as the complaints of players who are testing positive, the "struggles" of Stefanos Tsitsipas, the height of Diego Schwartzman, the wonders of Sasha Bubbles, and more. Also, we discuss what we'll miss most about Paris. Thank you again for the incredible support for NCR we've received in recent weeks on the NCR Patreon! The new Patreon milestone is to have Alex Ross draw a portrait of Caleb. Hear us out. We know the idea is absurd and the result will be disgusting. But it will be funny. Funny enough that it's worth what we presume will be a 50 grand plus commission fee, plus eye-hazard pay. Today, we revisit Andrew's first appearance on State of the Art as a guest. In 2014, Andrew Herman co-founded the mobile app French Girls. As the name of the app may reveal, Andrew doesn’t take himself too seriously; but he is serious about the app’s ability to introduce users to art appreciation and original art. In this episode, you'll hear SOTA founder and former host, Ethan Appleby, speak with Andrew about the process of making the French Girls app, the path to purchasing art, the cultural shifts needed to make art as popular as music, and Andrew's philosophy of not taking art "too seriously". -About Andrew Herman-Andrew Herman is co-founder of the mobile app French Girls. Ben and Courtney rendezvous in Paris once again to discuss the women's and men's French Open draws, which set up two very interesting tournaments (or maybe one and a half?)The women's side is full of intriguing and relevant match-ups throughout, especially the highly anticipated section with Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Karolina Pliskova. What can we expect from Garbine Muguruza? Can lightning strike twice for Jelena Ostapenko (or has she become a more stable generator?) And can Elina Svitolina reach her Slam potential. On the men's side, Ben posits why the super lopsided draw is actually perfect for the tournament, as all the best players who aren't Nadal get to battle amongst themselves for a spot in the final. He also defends his advocacy for John Isner, and Courtney explains her new devotion to Lil' David Goffin. As always, thanks for liking us on Facebook (leave comments on the episode thread! It's Slamming time again! Ben and Courtney break down the French Open draws for both the men's and women's. On the women's side, where there are many favorites to choose from, who got the best and worst draws? And whose great draws and good recent forms could lead them to a second consecutive semifinal (or better)? There are multiple correct answers to that one. On the men's side, could this be a tournament to get Murray or Djokovic back on track? Or is Rafael Nadal just too far ahead of the pack? Not much music this time, but Ben and Courtney try to hit all the right notes in this breakdown of the French Open draws (after a quick review of the Rome action), including some predictions. On the men's side, if it takes a team effort to beat Novak Djokovic, then who can contribute to that? And what are the chances like for his rivals Nadal, Wawrinka, and Murray? On the women's side, does Serena's path become complicated by Azarenka? Is a rematch of last year's semifinal likely? And just how bankable is Begu, suddenly? Live from the dirt of Paris and the glitter of Vienna, respectively, Courtney and Ben break down the momentous draw of the 2015 French Open, and give our predictions in pathetically crapshoot fashion. Firstly: the Djokovic-Nadal quarter, ever anticipated, actually happened! Now what happens? As you can guess if you've been listening, we disagree. We also have different players coming out of the men's bottom half, so it should make for a fun men's tournament. On the women's top half, we have even less clue. Serena against the field, but who exactly is capable in the field? Augh, it's tough.
