GREASE (1994) COMPOSER: Jim Jacobs, Warren Casey LYRICIST: Jim Jacobs, Warren Casey BOOK: Jim Jacobs, Warren Casey DIRECTOR: Jeff Calhoun CHOREOGRAPHER: Jeff Calhoun PRINCIPLE CAST: Ricky Paull Goldin (Danny), Rosie O'Donnell (Rizzo), Susan Wood (Sandy) OPENING DATE: May 11, 1994 CLOSING DATE: Jan 25, 1998 PERFORMANCES: 1505 SYNOPSIS: At Rydell High greaser Danny falls in love with good-girl Sandy. Throughout their high school days, they, and their friends, try to figure out life and love. Casting Director Stuart Howard details the way producers Fran and Barry Weissler changed the Broadway landscape by employing “Stunt Casting”-- the hiring of celebrities who will draw audiences to a show after the box office inevitably slows-- in the 1994 Broadway revival of Grease. Differences between “Star Casting”-- in which a celebrity with significant stage experience or training replaces a previous performer in a run-- and “Stunt Casting”-- in which no regard is paid to a performer's experience but their notoriety is instead exploited-- are outlined. Though the stars brought to the show elicited a range of responses from the theatre community, audiences, and critics, ultimately, the choices aided by rigorous and inventive advertising campaigns, kept the show running with fresh audiences buying tickets. Some of the celebrities that rotated through the production included Linda Blair, Joe Piscipo, Jon Secada, and Brooke Shields. Following their success with Grease, the Weisslers have continued their infamous casting practices with their revival of Chicago and other productions have taken note and followed suit. Stuart Howard taught at The Juilliard School for ten years and gave Master Classes and lectured at S.U.N.Y. Purchase, the Stella Adler Academy of Acting, Carnegie Mellon University, Purdue University, NYU's CAP21, and The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Stuart, Janet Hayes Walker and John Newton founded The York Theatre Company in New York City. Stuart has had his own casting company, Stuart Howard Associates, since 1980. They have cast scores of productions for Broadway, off Broadway, National Tours and London's West End. Recently, they cast the Broadway revival and National tour of West Side Story, Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning August: Osage County, and the original production of La Cage Aux Folles. He is currently involved in the casting of the world premiere of The Heir Apparent by David Ives, Twyla Tharp's Come Fly Away, The Maids by Jean Genet and two new musicals based on the life of Josephine Baker. The heartfelt role has garnered him much media attention and was one that was especially significant to him as it tied back to his Cuban roots. A third-generation actor, Arrechea’s career began at the age of 6 when he played the son to his biological mother in a telenovela in his home country of Cuba. He fell in love with the craft and was selected as one of the stars of the children’s show “Los Chicos Altura” (“The High Kids”). In 2002 his family moved to Miami and he faced a culture shock that made him rethink acting. He decided to study psychology in college but dropped out after only one semester to return to his true passion. It was during this time that he got into theater and started receiving a lot of attention for his stage performances including “El Solar de la Palangana de Oro” by Raúl de Cárdenas, a work that opened many doors for him and earned him press coverage as the “new face of acting” by People en Español. From theater, he jumped into television where he began with small roles in well-known Telemundo and Univision telenovelas such as "Más saber el diablo", "El Cartel 2" and "Alguien te Mira". He also starred in two short films, "Fate's Decree" directed by Michael Ruiz and the super production "El Manantial", with renowned Sam Bradley as director. His career thus began to roll, and his name to be known on the Miami scene. Not long after he was cast in the successful Nickelodeon Latin America series "Grachi" which he starred in for three seasons (152 episodes). It was during this time that he also starred in his first leading film role in the romantic comedy LA REBÚSQUEDA, the highest-grossing Salvadoran film in the country's history. After his success in Latin America, Arrechea decided to move to Los Angeles to begin his crossover into the U.S. market. Throughout his acting career, he has starred in several television commercials, including the Johnnie Walker national commercial which toasts to immigrants and highlights their grueling path towards citizenship. He is a member of SAG-AFTRA and is an alumnus of the Stella Adler Academy of Acting. As a Cuban-born actor, Arrechea has always looked up to the original Latin Comedy star Desi Arnaz and a dream role for him would be to reprise the role of ‘Ricky Ricardo’ in a comedy series or film. In his free time Arrechea enjoys reading, meditating, and exercising, and sees every day the opportunity to grow and improve in all aspects. He also enjoys volunteering for The Ronald McDonald House, where he feeds, plays games, and speaks with children and parents who have seriously ill children or family members in hospital. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

While interning Joshua got a taste of the corporate world and realized it wasn’t for him. He had spent a month in both Moscow and Tokyo, a little bit of time in Israel and seeing how people lived in different parts of the world as well as how they interacted with one another changed his perspective. He realized that with the short amount of time we do have we must find something we love to do and thus how he stumbled into acting. Chicago, IL was where he was raised. A city full of people that were down to earth, very organized and filled with excellent food. He had some family issues that impacted him heavily early on and it was tough for him to make friends but as time went he grew more confident in himself. After spending sometime at Parkland Community College, he dropped out at 22 to bet on professional football and traded stocks. It got so intense that he moved to Las Vegas for six months with one of his friends. After getting his feet wet with acting in Chicago he took his talents out to Los Angeles and attended Stella Adler Academy of Acting. In order to become one of the greats one must be willing to get back up millions of times even after falling on your face. Being vulnerable, open, studying the script, fully submerging yourself into the role, taking what you’ve learned and making it yours all needs to happen before the cameras start rolling. At 27 years young, Joshua is a humble, hungry and is doing whatever it takes to make it in the industry. In this episode Joshua discusses valeting cars was one of his favorite jobs as a kid, two roles in his acting career that have impacted him the most, we all have different paths in life so things will happen when they happen, the law of attraction, traveling and observing everything around you, why we should put ourselves in uncomfortable situations, being honest with people, wanting to add more structure to his life, you’re in complete control of how you react to situations it’s all about perspective and the only person you’re fighting is the one you see in the mirror. One of the main takeaways from this episode is that it’s you versus you. Look at yourself ask what do I really want to do, who do I want to become, where do I see myself tomorrow, next month, next year or even in a decade. You’re in complete control of your life. — You can follow Joshua here: Twitter: @JBrenner_Act (https://twitter.com/jbrenner_act) Instagram: @Joshua_Ryan_Brenner (https://www.instagram.com/joshua_ryan_brenner/) Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for new interviews (and more) weekly: http://bit.ly/2zprpon Follow us on Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/2hcSBws Subscribe to iTunes: http://apple.co/2yE0u9l Follow us on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2j82AHF Follow Bobbbaaaay on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2Ap24ce Twitter: http://bit.ly/2hj6Ljm
