TikTok staat wederom beschreven in een wetsvoorstel, dat gedwongen verkoop bepaalt (en anders: een verbod), dat is aangenomen door het Huis van Afgevaardigden. Ditmaal betreft het een groter pakket acties in de geopolitieke sfeer, met nieuwe sancties richting Rusland, en nieuwe steun voor Oekraïne, Israël én Gaza. Dat hele pakket is met 360 stemmen voor en 58 door het Huis van Afgevaardigden gegaan dit weekend. Daardoor kan de Amerikaanse Senaat er niet meer omheen, terwijl het vorige voorstel wel pas na weken of maanden behandeld zou worden. Verschil is wel: het Chinese moederbedrijf ByteDance krijgt nu maximaal een jaar om de app te verkopen als die wet erdoor komt, niet een halfjaar zoals eerder. Al met al betekent dit dat TikTok zich klaarmaakt om dit aan te vechten bij de rechter, dat heeft de hoofdlobbyist in een interne memo bekendgemaakt, meldt Bloomberg. Daarmee lijkt deze zaak echt opeens weer in een stroomversnelling geraakt, want de Senaat zal zich waarschijnlijk deze week al over het wetsvoorstel buigen.
