Season three is based on my novella, BOOK CLUBS CAN BE MURDER, and each episode features subsequent installments from the story. In this series the Capital city and its art galleries, bars, restaurants, and long-held secrets are featured in these cozy-inspired mysteries that are as unpredictable as the mighty Susquehanna River it sits onPaint by Murders features the painter, and amateur detective, Keith Reed, his wife Ginger, their crew of neighborhood friends, and the cozy, but sometimes dangerous city of Harrisburg. In the last episode, Keith hosted the book club at the gallery and finally got to meet all the suspects in person. However, he found that his deductive skills were lacking a bit when he kept on making wrong guesses about who was who as they arrived. Eventually, it was all sorted out and they had a nice evening getting to know each other. At the end of the evening, Keith and Harmony were talking and something she said about Susan helped Keith to figure things out. And now, we find out what that is!Here's a list of the book club members:The Midtown Book, Social, and Food ClubWilliam – mid 40s, attorney, single dad, been in the book club almost 10 years, friend – not a suspect.Linda – early 70s, retired from the state, looks like a retired gym teacher, mystery fan, bourbon fan, original founder of the club, knows her poisons (is that weird?) – was the first one suspicious of Desmond's death, thinks it was arsenic.Pearl – mid 60s, retired from the state, widowed 3 times under mysterious circumstances, original founder, next-door neighbor to Linda, no motive?Claire – late 30s or so, married to Luke, chemical engineer, dated Desmond, loud, club leader? original founder, loves to host elaborate dinner parties, Desmond was killed in her house, across the street from his, she didn't seem to care that he teased her.Phoebe – around 50, single, taciturn, sweet, works for state in finance? Disappears at times – “secret agent.”Susan – mid 40s, not a big reader, lives near William, married to Ted (who hated Desmond for his flirting, but wasn't at the dinner).Deanne – early 30s, married, hippy soap maker, didn't like Desmond, called him out, friends with Claire.Synthia – mid 50s, married, attractive, newest member of the club, recently moved from Colorado, husband a pharmacist? lives near Claire and Desmond (Linda thinks she was having an affair with Desmond and killed him).Harmony – late 50's, single, quiet, recently retired from corporate job, travels a lot, wealthy?Desmond – 55, dead, single, British (accent at least), marketing exec., flirted with almost any woman, teased them too, wrote the club's newsletter, lived across the street from Claire and near Synthia, buys lots of flowers. Colin and Synthia Andrews join us to talk about crop circles, the human future, and the state of things now. Is what's unfolding before us on this planet a plan on behalf of the good? The evil? Or are these notions purely human constructs? We discuss it all in depth, but first... a visit from Santa Claus. Send us a Text Message.Synthia shares her healing journey, which began during her difficult pregnancy and led her to explore various healing modalities. She experienced peripartum cardiomyopathy, a heart condition caused by pregnancy, and struggled to be heard by her medical team. This week, Drewby and Yergy head back to Albuquerque to discuss the case of Omaree Varela, a beautiful little boy who was abused by both his mother, Synthia Varela, and his stepfather, Steve Casaus - who was a violent criminal. Things came to a head on December 27th, 2013, when Synthia became so upset with Omaree that she literally kicked him to death. Much like many of the cases we've discussed on this channel, CPS and local authorities were very much involved in the family's life, and failed in their duty to protect Omaree. Synthia Simenson is a mother of five (almost six) children ages 10 and under. She went through the struggles that I think we can all relate to when we first become moms—overwhelm, unsure of where to focus her time and energy, and not even sure what she wanted life to look like. I hope you are as inspired by her journey as I am, from those survival years to making intentional changes that created space for her to dream. Things like minimum baselines for taking care of herself and her home, weekly out-of-the-house dates with her husband (a minimum of 3 hours!), and creating a schedule so she wasn't reinventing the wheel every single day (notice the 3 pillars of thriving there?!). She also began asking this life-changing question: "What is something you want more of?" As she and her husband discussed this on their weekly dates, their answer was travel. They both love being in new places, connecting with people, and spending time together as a family while having new experiences and discovering things. Leaning into that dream has turned into years of trips all around the world. Synthia's Hacks For Traveling Internationally With Kids Plan trips that you are excited about because it is overwhelming and stressful, and you need something to really motivate you to do it because there are so many benefits Each kid has a day bag and night bag (toothbrush, pajamas, night diaper, etc.) Pack a swim bag with everything needed for swimming or a beach day Church bag with everything for church - bows, snacks, activities, etc. Make a customized packing list on the computer, print it out, and modify it according to the trip. Then, hand the list to the older children and have them pack by a deadline. This keeps you organized and lets the kids step up. Bring everything into a dining room or guest bedroom so it is consolidated into one space If going on a two-week international trip, start packing two weeks before because there are going to be that many details and things that go into it. Have a babysitter come over to help with packing Everyone gets their own snack bag that lasts for the entire trip. They get to pack 10 healthy snacks and some candies. She never regrets packing lots of food options to help with hungry moments. Have a restaurant bag with diapers, wipes, and black t-shirts for little kids instead of bibs to cover their clothes, and use it all week to keep them clean Listen to podcasts or YouTube videos about the place you are going to (start 6 months before) to get lots of ideas about what you can do without sitting in front of the computer all the time (though there is plenty of that, too). When I plan trips with kids, I skip over any blog that talks about travel without kids. I only read from sources that include "...with kids." Have a toiletries bag that is 90% ready to go for travel with duplicates of everything Have bags with long handles that go over the headrest in the car to help keep the kids' things organized so things are up off of the ground Always have 10 empty grocery sacks with you - there is always a kid who throws up, or has an accident, or there is garbage - and it helps you feel really prepared Traveling with your family might not be your dream, but I hope that this week's episode inspires you to ask the question, "What is something I want more of?" and see where it leads.

Ever feel overwhelmed and unsure if you're doing this whole parenting thing rightYou're not alone, and in this episode, I dive into the real and raw moments of parenting with Parent Coach, Synthia Praglin. We unpacked the layers of parent coaching, a journey where I learned it's not about changing our children but transforming the parent's perspective and response to their child's behavior. We dig deep into our own triggers, rooted in unmet needs and unprocessed experiences. Synthia's wisdom unveils a haunting yet comforting truth: our children mirror our unhealed wounds. We explored the power of seeing our kids beyond their behaviors. Every tantrum and smile reflects unmet needs and unexpressed emotions. In Synthia's words, we'll discover a world where compassion and understanding are the cornerstones of parenting. Are you ready to step into this space of learning and growing together?Stay empowered,JenLet's keep the conversation going! Find me at:Jen Rafferty | Instagram, YouTube, Facebook | LinktreeInstagram: @jenrafferty_Facebook: Empowered Educator Faculty RoomAbout Synthia:For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for working with children and families. Having grown up in a family system where “children were seen but not heard” I knew there had to be a better and healthier way to raise children. Having my own child reinforced this notion and from early on, I made a promise to raise my son in a way that was respectful, and from a place of curiosity, compassion and conscious awareness. Parent coaching gives you the opportunity to talk about your specific parenting challenges, all while navigating the developmental transitions in your child's life. Through a lens of curiosity, rather than blame or judgment, we will look at the “why” of behavior and strive to understand what the behavior is telling us. With this clarity and understanding, we are better equipped to help our child through these difficult moments thereby strengthening the parent - child relationship. My philosophy is based in a Mindful/Conscious Parenting model that takes a relationship based view of parenting and emphasizes the importance of nurturing the connection between parent and child. My goal is to help you bring lightness, laughter, and love back into your home. To help joyfulness and tranquility find a place at the table. To teach you to forgive yourself when you are human and move forward. To feel in control and optimistic about the future, and your family.
