In this episode, Wellington and Savon discuss Buffalo's dominant home win against the Rams and how impressive Josh Allen's performance was. They also discuss Russell Wilson's 5-year, $245 million extension and thoughts on Georgia's title defense plus how Florida State needs to improve on closing games. Next, they discuss Serena Williams' last run at the US Open and how she'll be remembered for years to come; with an impeccable legacy. In the second half, they review Roc Marciano, The Alchemist's The Elephant Man's Bones collaborative album and Kenny Beats' LOUIE debut album plus how impressive this project was being composed of easygoing instrumentals and interlaced with brief vocal harmonies. Next, they review one of Dixson's new singles “Barely”, Bryson Tiller's new experimental song “Outside” and how they're still looking for his core, vintage sound and finally close it out with reviewing Taelor Gray's latest phenomenal album Find a Way to Smile Again and analyze the message he tried to convey and the overall sonic output.
Today's a very special episode. For the last 8 eyars, I've been a part of a hip-hop duo, Middle Clash, with my good friend and emcee, Taelor Gray. We recently announced our latest project, Clash Course, that's releasing next Wednesday on June 22nd. One of my favorite things about creating music for Middle Clash, is knowing that there is a whole entire community of supporters waiting patiently for us to drop. That community is everything. And over the years, Taelor and I have worked extremely hard to maintain our integrity as it pertains to delivering the best content for them. Clash Course is no different. And this time, we pressed up some vinyl to make it super official. Our community came through in a major way and we sold out of vinyl pre-orders within 72 hours. All because we had built-in community. I hope you enjoy this conversation between us, and take away some practical advice to use in your journey. In this week's episode of Make it Plain, Phillip Holmes and Taelor Gray explore the following Malcolm X quote:"Then in the second semester of the second grade, I was elected class president. It surprised me even more than other people. But I can see now why the class might have done it. My grades were among the highest in the school. I was unique in my class, like a pink poodle. And I was proud. I'm not going to say I wasn't. In fact, by then, I didn't really have much feeling about being a Negro. Because I was trying so hard, in every way I could, to be white. Which is why I am spending much of my life today telling the American black man that he's wasting his time straining to integrate. I know from personal experience. I tried hard enough.”Follow Phillip HolmesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/PhillipMichaelHolmesTwitter: https://twitter.com/phillipmholmesInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/phillipmholmes/Follow Taelor GrayTwitter: https://twitter.com/taelor_grayInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/taelor_gray/Learn more about Make It Plain: https://makeitplain.coJoin the Patreon Community: https://www.patreon.com/hometoroostSupport this podcast at: https://makeitplain.co/supportPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/make-it-plain/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

This week, we are presenting an episode from our friends, Phillip Holmes and Taelor Gray, and their “insightful and challenging” podcast Make It Plain. In this episode of the Make It Plain podcast, host Phillip Holmes and Taelor Gray discuss how Malcolm X was slandered. Holmes and Gray reflect on how Malcolm X's quote was frighteningly accurate and how this perception of him is alive and well today. They explore the motives for this misrepresentation and why Malcolm X predicted that the press would be the culprit rather than the government or FBI. Phillip closes by sharing a story about how he was recently slandered to serve as an illustration of what they believe are the effects of slander and ends with biblical applications regarding how Christians should view slander. Phillip Holmes is a marketing executive, podcast host, and owner of Highest Good Media. Phillip is married with children and his family are members of Redeemer Church. His wife, Jasmine Holmes, has a recently released book called Carved in Ebony that invites you into a world that tells a history that doesn't exclude the contributions of black women. In this episode of the Make It Plain podcast, host Phillip Holmes and Taelor Gray discuss how Malcolm X was slandered. In his autobiography, Malcolm wrote:“When I am dead — I say it that way because, from the things I know, I do not expect to live long enough to read this book in its finished form — I want you to just watch and see if I'm not right in what I say: that the white man, in his press, is going to identify me with “hate”. He will make use of me dead, as he has made use of me alive, as a convenient symbol, of “hatred”--and that will help him escape facing the truth that all I have been doing is holding up a mirror to reflect, to show, the history of unspeakable crimes that his race has committed against my race.” To start the conversation, Holmes and Gray reflect on how Malcolm X's quote was frighteningly accurate and how this perception of him is alive and well today. They explore the motives for this misrepresentation and why Malcolm X predicted that the press would be the culprit rather than the government or FBI. Holmes and Taelor transition into a more focused discussion of slander and how it affects those who hear it and those who are its target. Phillip closes by sharing a story about how he was recently slandered to serve as an illustration of what they believe are the effects of slander and ends with biblical applications regarding how Christians should view slander.Follow Phillip HolmesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/PhillipMichaelHolmesTwitter: https://twitter.com/phillipmholmesInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/phillipmholmes/Follow Taelor GrayTwitter: https://twitter.com/taelor_grayInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/taelor_gray/Learn more about Make It Plain: https://makeitplain.coJoin the Patreon Community: https://www.patreon.com/hometoroostSupport this podcast at: https://makeitplain.co/supportPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/make-it-plain/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
On this episode of the Make It Plain podcast, host Phillip Holmes and Taelor Gray kickoff episode 1 discussing misperceptions of Malcolm X. In his autobiography, Malcolm wrote:“Why am I as I am? To understand that of any person, his whole life, from birth must be reviewed. All of our experiences fuse into our personality. Everything that ever happened to us is an ingredient.” To start the conversation, Holmes and Gray share how they were exposed to Malcolm X. Gray was exposed to Malcolm X by his mother at an early age while Holmes didn't engage Malcolm X until recently which led him to read/listen to (HT: Thabiti Anyabwile) three biographies on Malcolm X as well as speeches and interviews.Holmes and Taelor lead into more focused discussion of how Malcolm X is perceived as unhelpful or useless by many today in the pursuit of unity. They then discuss how Malcolm X is perceived in various corners of the church as well as the role regional cultures might affect not only one's view but exposure as well. “I’m reading books by Richard Foster, Dallas Willard, Adele Calhoun, and I’m like, where is the information on African American spiritual direction? We need to have a voice in this community.” Dr. Barbara Peacock illustrates the liminal history of contemplative prayer, spiritual direction, and soul care within the African American tradition. Reflecting on significant men and women like Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Howard Thurman—Barbara celebrates the practices of soul care as we learn from these spiritual leaders. “Liminal history is the only history that we know. We are a people that are continuously going from one revelation of humanity and equality to another.” Dr. Barbara is a preacher, teacher and a prayer warrior. Spiritual direction and soul care were the emphasis of her doctoral work, which led to her book Soul Care in African American Practice. “I believe we are on the brink of a great awakening. I think we’ve had one; we just didn’t realize it. I know people don’t see eye to eye on the protests, but there is a piercing and a transformation of the heart that is taking place.” Thank you to Taelor Gray for the podcast benediction with his song Closer. https://www.ivpress.com/soul-care-in-african-american-practice https://www.barbaralpeacock.com/ http://www.taelorgray.com/ Special Thanks to these musicians for permission to include these songs: Taelor Gray: Closer Kai Engle: Irens Tale, Salue, Machinery, Morning Placidity, Denouement Borrtex: Black Out Audiobinger: Winter is Coming, Past Regrets Lee Rosevere: Under Suspicion
