In 1909, all eyes turned to Worcester, Massachusetts, as a well-dressed businessman claimed he'd built a flying machine — and the world wanted to believe him so badly, they saw it in the sky whether it was there or not.IN THIS EPISODE: We'll look at the crazy story of the Great Worcester Airship Hoax of 1909! *** We'll meet a cat that must have more than nine lives, as it survived three World War Two shipwrecks and lived to meow about it! This week, we had fun finding some other amazing animals, they may not all be psychic wonder horses, but damn are they wonderful!! Kelsey keeps us up with the Koko shenanigans, you know like the Kardashians? Ok it's a stretch, but Koko reaches new heights in communication and very human traits, like ...being horny?? She's an enigma, like all of us! To cap it off, Alanna tells some war stories of animal heros, like Unsinkable Sam, and two very, very good doggos. Darkcast Promos of the week:! In today's, we look back at two of the most infamous cats in history. Simon the Shipcat, who was the only cat in history to ever receive the Dickin Medal for his outstanding bravery and the comfort he gave the crew of the HMS Amethyst in a dire situation. And another ship cat, The Unsinkable Sam, who survived not one, not two, but three ships sinking. Join us as we show that cats indeed DO care!
During the chaos of World War 2, soldiers on both land and sea found companionship and comfort in the animals they had with them. From horses to goats, the animals serving alongside the soldiers of WW2 saw action on battlefields the world over. Today we're exploring the life of one particular animal who survived the sinking of three different battleships, including the infamous Bismarck. His name was Oscar, then Sam, then quite appropriately, Unsinkable Sam. Unsinkable Sam was a black and white tabby cat who was allegedly rescued from a floating plank after the chase and historic sinking of Germany's Bismarck. After surviving one of the most famous navel battles of all time, its said that Sam went on to survive the sinking of both the HMS Cossack and the HMS Ark Royale. Join me as we uncover the legend of a cat who survived three different shipwrecks and still walked away with several of his nine lives to spare.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's our April Fools day episode! (A day late but the Friday scheduling MUST be maintained) So we are telling a tale that starts in Germany and doesn't even have a human protagonist. Meet Oscar, a cat forced to sea who was going to make sure everyone knew how upset it made him. He was a true agent of chaos who arguably had more of an impact on WWII than entire battalions of soldiers.Guest Host: Jack HeathcotePLUS BONUS CAT STORIES AT THE END! It's not uncommon for an animal to be in the military, whether as a pet or as a mascot. It is uncommon, however, for one to have survived the sinking of several ships. Today's tale is about a black & white cat, dubbed "Unsinkable Sam", who survived 3 sinking ships during WWII. The question is: is this story fact or fiction? Come with us to find out! Marie hader Katrine hele vejen.

Windsor, Ontario is a mid-sized city on the southwest tip of Ontario, Canada, across the river from Detroit, Michigan. It's a multi-cultural city with a strong history in manufacturing. The French founded the early settlement here and this is reflected in the names of streets. There are many historical buildings in the city and one of these locations is the Capitol Theater where full seasons of contemporary plays have been performed sine the 1980s. As is the case with many theaters, this one is reputed to be haunted. There is also a road in Windsor that is cloaked in legends and that is Texas Road. Listener Alisha Lesperance joins us from Windsor to share her experiences performing at the theater and to discuss the legends of Texas Road. The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Michael Rogers and features Unsinkable Sam and This Day in History features the signing of the Second Treaty of Paris.
