Alles wordt duurder... Dat wordt deze maand maar weer pijnlijk duidelijk in de beweging van de consumentenprijsindex. In mei lag het gemiddelde prijspeil in Nederland 3,5% hoger dan een jaar geleden. Het is voor het eerst sinds oktober dat de stijging boven de 3,0% uitkomt. Energie is duurder door de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten, maar ook de prijzen van diensten stegen. Redacteur macro-economie Marijn Jongsma legt uit dat we te maken hebben met een versnelde inflatie. Als de energie-inflatie lang aanhoudt door de Golfoorlog, zal dit leiden tot hogere looneisen waardoor de diensteninflatie oploopt. De toekomst blijft onvoorspelbaar. Het Maleisische bedrijf, dat een vijfde van de wereldwijde productie van condooms produceert, heeft de prijzen met 20% tot 30% moeten verhogen. Zal dit uitmonden in een babyboom? Karex-topman Goh Miah Kiat verwacht dat de vraag naar condooms gelijk blijft. Ze zijn hoe dan ook nodig, redeneert hij. De Nederlandse zorg draait is afhankelijk van snelle, internationale toeleverketens als het gaat om medische hulpmiddelen en geneesmiddelen. Ziekenhuizen en apotheken houden maar kleine voorraden aan en bestellen wat ze nodig hebben, vaak voor een paar dagen vooruit. Dat is efficiënter en goedkoper, maar kwetsbaar zodra er iets misgaat: wat gebeurt er bij een oorlog, een cyberaanval, een blokkade of een fabriek die stilvalt? Tekorten aan medische hulpmiddelen en medicijnen zijn nu al voelbaar in de zorg. Hoe goed is Nederland eigenlijk voorbereid op het moment dat de aanvoer echt stokt? Ruim 2 miljoen Nederlanders combineren een betaalde baan met mantelzorg voor een naaste. Door vergrijzing stijgt de zorgvraag, terwijl ontgroening het aantal beschikbare mensen om die zorg te verlenen juist verkleint. Dat legt druk op zowel de arbeidsmarkt als het zorgstelsel tegelijkertijd, omdat er steeds meer mantelzorg nodig is. De Sociaal-Economische Raad (SER) bracht donderdag 19 februari een advies uit aan de rijksoverheid over hoe werk en mantelzorg beter te combineren zijn. Naar schatting wordt 18% van alle werkgerelateerde uitval veroorzaakt door mantelzorgtaken. In deze aflevering van BNR Beter bespreekt presentator Nina van den Dungen het SER-advies met drie gasten: Ruben Houweling – hoogleraar Arbeidsrecht en kroonlid van de SER, voorzitter van de commissie die het advies schreef. Cécile Boot – hoogleraar Gezond Werken bij Amsterdam UMC, onderzoeker naar de effecten van mantelzorg op werkenden. Jeroen Vermeulen – oprichter en CEO van Zorggenoot, een platform dat mantelzorgers ondersteunt bij regelgeving en administratie via AI. De SER werkt in zijn advies langs twee sporen. Het eerste richt zich op het vergemakkelijken van de combinatie werk en mantelzorg. Centraal daarin staat een voorstel voor acht weken doorbetaald zorgverlof op 70 procent, vergelijkbaar met de WW en de ziektewet. Het tweede spoor richt zich op het beheersen van de groeiende vraag naar mantelzorg, via preventie en investering in de formele zorgsector. Houweling licht toe waarom de SER kiest voor collectieve financiering: mantelzorg is volgens de raad een maatschappelijk risico dat buiten de invloedssfeer van individuele werkgevers valt. Boot benadrukt de rol van cultuurverandering op de werkvloer. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat gesprekken over mantelzorg in 80% van de gevallen tot een praktische oplossing leiden, maar die gesprekken vinden nog weinig plaats. "Mijn droom is dat het geven van mantelzorg net zo normaal wordt als het krijgen van kinderen," zegt ze. Vermeulen wijst op een complicerende factor: een gemiddeld mantelzorgtraject duurt zeven jaar. Verlofweken bieden in veel gevallen tijdelijke verlichting, maar lossen het structurele probleem niet op. Een deel van de verklaring waarom bestaande regelingen zo weinig worden gebruikt, ligt volgens hem in de versnippering van het aanbod. "Als je de hulpvraag niet weet, stel je hem niet en raak je overbelast," zegt hij. Zijn platform Zorggenoot probeert als één loket die informatiekloof te dichten. Was hat Ubisoft uns denn da hingelegt: Sechs Spiele eingestellt, darunter das ersehnte Remake von Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, sieben weitere verschoben und mit mehr Geld und Zeit ausgestattet, was grundsätzlich nicht verkehrt ist, aber wohl auch zu noch höheren Erwartungen führt. Mehrere Studios geschlossen, Mitarbeiter entlassen und weitere „Sparmaßnahmen“ angekündigt (auf deutsch: sie wollen noch mehr Studios schließen und Leute entlassen). Alle Studios und Marken unter fünf „Kreativhäusern“ neugeordnet und ausgerichtet auf die „zwei Kernsäulen Open World Adventures und Games-as-a-Service“. Und natürlich wollen sie verstärkt in „player-facing“ genAI investieren, also durch KI generierte Elemente, die auch in den Spielen selbst enthalten sein soll, Grafik-Assets oder auch NPCs, die dank LLMs noch belangloseres Zeug sabbeln. Die Börse hats gedankt und die Aktie ist um 30 Prozent gefallen. Aber keine Sorge, den üblichen Technik-Quatsch haben wir auch zu bieten: Bei Mo ist der Wasserboiler ausgefallen und in gewohnter Manier hat er, nachdem der Handwerker ein professionelles „Oh, das wird teuer!“ angebracht hatte, eine angemessen abenteuerliche Lösung improvisiert. He started with a single port engine then off to the races with his new "race Motor" running in the 12's.  Brian Hyerstay G Dragster has a 1680cc engine revs to over 10,000 RPM & has a best ET of 8.43. And thats with NO POWER ADDERS. Brian has been involed n VWs since his first Bug in the early 70's. Since then hes raced his 1962 Beetle that hes owned since then. He then switcehd over to a Manx buggy for drag racing. When he reched the pinnacle of that, he bought a used G-Dragster and started his journey up the ranks of Competition Eliminator. His 1680 CC has custom builr cylinder heads, an overhead cam, fuel injection, all off of a stock case. Hes racked up over 20 Wally's the covedted NHRA award for any racer. Brian is pusing the envelope with this 1680cc engine. He also ha a 1977 348 RWH street beetle in all stock trim. Can you say SLEEPER. The data shows dealerships need to prioritize security in their digital retail platforms as online fraud and data breaches rise.Identity theft is the top online concern for consumers.Digital processes at dealerships have become targets for fraudsters due to weak cybersecurity, according to Kanchana Sundaram, the senior director of product and innovation at Experian.Almost half of those surveyed trust businesses with visible cybersecurity measures.The survey shows consumers want digital retail tools to take cybersecurity seriously. Top 5 measures to provide a secure online experience: Physical biometrics, Pin code sent to mobile device, Behavioral biometrics, Security questions, and PasswordsSundaram said: "Consumers want easy, secure transactions with trusted brands like Amazon."Tesla's Sentry Mode is gaining attention as Oakland police utilize the technology to aid investigations. Initially designed to catch Tesla-related crimes, it is now helping police capture general crime scene footage.Tesla launched Sentry Mode in response to break-ins in 2018-2019 and uses Tesla's existing cameras to record while the car is parked.It has been pivotal in solving vandalism and other non-car-related crimes.Police are now towing Tesla vehicles to retrieve footage when owners are unavailable.Sgt. In this episode, Mark talks with Paul Sasso, a physics and astronomy teacher from Maine. They talk about Paul's experience as a new teacher and his introduction to modeling instruction, and later to the new modeling astronomy materials. After taking the modeling astronomy workshop and returning as both participant and "intern," Paul was invited to attend modeling workshop leader training. They talk about that experience and then dive into more thoughts on the astronomy and exoplanets materials, the virtual course, and engaging hands-on activities for the students. Guests Paul L. Sasso Paul L. Sasso is a high school Science teacher in Maine and for the past 13 years has been teaching all levels of Physics, and more recently Astronomy. He also directs the STEM Makerspace at school, which is a hub for 3D printing,and robotics (supporting students projects schoolwide). Paul has been a Modeler since 2017 when he took his first workshop in Physics Mechanics. He comes to teaching from a career in Engineering with Motorola, Siemens and General Dynamics.
