Listeners of Life Athletics that love the show mention:Ruby was one of the last interviews I did before accidentally breaking my skull two and a half years ago. Ruby is an artist, musician, performer, and life curator. Her love and adoration for life pours our of everything she shares in this interview. I had been saving it and because of the intensity of my recovery it's taken me 2.5 years to finally release it. Listening to it again I felt moved and inspired to be alive. Much as I said about the last episode, I feel like this was a gift from Ruby and my past self to my present self, and I am very grateful. I loved all of this and I think you will too. Enjoy!
Today's Life Athlete is Ryan Estrada. This is Ryan's second appearance on the podcast and we did it shortly after my skull fracture while he was in Bali. Ryan is nearly impossible to categorise as he's a creative whirlwind. He throws himself at live and creative projects with a mix of youthful enthusiasm and mature technical efficiency. From Graphic Novels, to Radio plays, to filmmaking, Ryan has challenged himself and accomplished a lot. This episode is a ballad to anyone wanting to start a thing. I hadn't heard it since we first recorded it nearly two years ago and as I'm taking on new projects now I found it to be a gift from Ryan and my past self to me now. It is also a gift for you and I hope it helps you live a fuller, more delightful, and creative life.
Today's Life Athlete is Nemanja Sonero. Nemanja and I were linked on line due to our love and commitment to Men's work, archetypes and human empowerment in general. We connected immediately and recorded a podcast episode almost a year ago. Due to personal reasons related to my recovery from injury I haven't posted anything in that time and going back over that episode I wasn't happy with it. Nemanja was wonderful but I was talking too much in my opinion and I wanted to hear more from him. Nemanja was gracious enough to record a new episode last week and it was delightful exactly what I wanted to listen to actually. I am more than pleased to share this conversation with you, enjoy!

He is now a mindset coach, who supports elite athletes and high performing individuals to create competitive advantages in their personal and professional arenas.
Life Athletes welcome to episode 208 of the Life Athletics Podcast, this is your host, Nik Wood. Today’s guest Life Athlete is Adam Roa. Adam is a transformational artist, and coach, creating all sorts of art to elevate human consciousness and awareness. He shares as authentically and vulnerably as he can so that others have a permission slip to do the same. Adam and I have known each other for a while now and I was deeply excited to do this interview. I met him at his villa in Bali about a week before my injury a year and a half ago. It was wild listening to the conversation again as there are things that I needed to hear in this episode now. Adam has been very supportive during my recovery, sending voice messages and exchanging stories and I appreciate him greatly. Enjoy!
Today’s guest Life Athlete is Dr. Gertrude Tavernier. Gertrud always pursued the philosophy of 'a healthy mind in a healthy body' and she started to see that for many people a missing piece was a healthy sex life, and so she built a tool for women to help foster a healthy relationship with sex. The elegant sensual audio app Maeve offers women, and couples, a hands-on tool for healthy intimate pleasure. It is bluntly speaking a masterbation app but it is also so much more. This is only one slice of what this amazing human is up to but it is the primary focus of this conversation. When I first heard about this project, I told Gertrude that I wanted to lend my voice to it and this is a start. Because of her commitment to help people live more connected lives, Gertrude has embarked on a journey she had never envisioned and discovered a deeper connection with herself, her mother, and her purpose.
Chris is many things among them a coach's coach. As the founder and CEO of Coaches Cartel, he helps fitness experts move from in person to online businesses powerfully and successfully. On the outside Chris looks like he was made in a laboratory. He's incredibly fit, perfectly tan, his teeth glisten, his eyes sparkle. The first time that I met him was at a Toastmasters event in Bali. It was a first time for both of us but we aren't rookie speakers and his presence was felt immediately. In this conversation Chris shows a mastery and a humility that is a breath of fresh air. Chris wasn't made in a lab. He is the product of hard work, struggle, purpose, and perseverance. His commitment to Constantly Pivot, Constantly Move forward, and Constantly Iterate has made him a powerhouse. And his belief that you can become whoever you want in any moment you want, displays a foundational belief that we can all shine as well.
Life Athletes welcome to episode 205 of the Life Athletics Podcast, this is your host, Nik Wood. Today’s guest Life Athlete is Ryan Miller. Ryan is The founder of Inner Leadership Academy, Own your Stage, and Inbody Fit and has also been working with the Contentment Foundation. He is a dynamic, charismatic, jovial man in the body of a superhero. This conversation was had nearly 10 months ago and was fascinating to listen to again as it was deep, vulnerable, and not the typical conversation between two large, good looking, athletic men. This wasn’t typical locke room talk. We dive into some topics that I rarely hear people discuss around the preconceptions people have of people that look like him, the pressure to be happy and the price of privileges that neither of us would trade, but do come at a cost. Ryan is a gem of a human and it was a pleasure to have him on the show. Enjoy!

Derek is a Polymath with the equivalent to a PHD in Adventuring after upwards of 300 episodes of the Art of Adventure Podcast as well as a life well lived. He has been on this show multiple times and was in fact the first interview on the Life Athletics podcast. Check out those episodes for more details around his life and work, they’re well worth a listen and a relisten. In THIS episode, which plays double duty as an episode of the podcast now known as “the Derek Loudermilk show”, we interview each other and go deep on what it takes to create yourself as the person you WANT to be, how to go from zero to mastery in any area of life and how to win at life. Enjoy!
Mike Chang, YouTube's first fitness Guru, "The Ab Guy", the former face and body of the most subscribed to fitness channel on YouTube transformed his life after unlocking a level of happiness previously unknown to him and then setting out to learn how to recreate it for himself and others. This was the last interview I did before my skull fracturing accident and it was so much fun listening to it again. There is so much gold in this conversation, it's mind blowing! I got a lot out of listening to it, and I was part of the conversation, so I know you'll get a lot out of it too!
After a long time out due to an injury, I am recovering extremely well and reinvigorated. Reminding myself of and embodying the Life Athletics methodology has been a key reason for my quick bounce back and so I thought I'd share some of the foundations of the methodology with you. This short episode is a great jumping on point for new listeners.
Originally this conversation was meant to be released as episode 201 and was recorded well in advance BUT host Nik Wood's life threatening injury in August 2019 had us record a new episode 201 with Derek as it felt right to acknowledge that event and that landmark appropriately. There's so much gold in this episode and so we are excited to be releasing it now. Derek is an astounding individual who constantly pushes to his edge with grace and good humour. The many and varied chapters in his life have prepared him for adventure and accomplishment in every area of his life!
This is a special episode as it is the last of a 200 episode cycle and the final word before a new chapter. We haven’t published an episode in quite some time and it is also a special episode because of the reason why. I nearly died 4 months ago. I’d like to say at this time that I’ll be talking about some fairly graphic and passably traumatic subjects and so if that doesn’t feel like something you can handle at this time, please turn this off and go do something else. The journey has been profound and people all over the globe have shown their love and support through one of the most harrowing times of my existence and I wanted to share the story with you as well as the lessons and takeaways.
Today’s guest Life Athlete is Paul . Paul fascinated me the moment I met him. He’s the one of the best in the world at what he does and by his own admission, most people won’t know who he is. Paul has been an aerialist circus performer for over 15 years and he and his wife recently won a Bronze Clown at the prestigious International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo put on by the Princess of Monaco. Our first conversation immediately went to topics such as excellence, dedication, and the experience of being the best in the world at your craft. In a world of social media and attention seekers it was nourishing to talk to someone whose primary motivations were so in line with the intentions of Life Athletics, to play his game to the best of his ability for the satisfaction that comes from experiencing a job well done. We also spoke about how the skills to do one thing well are conceptually similar to the skills needed to do something else well, which is the whole point of this podcast. As Paul says, "It’s very very difficult to achieve perfection but you can strive towards excellence”. We recorded this episode in a room in Bali that felt super quiet at the time and yet there are roosters crowing, dogs barking, It’s not perfect but many of the things Paul says are excellent and I hope you can push aside the occasional background noise and enjoy!
Malin is a professional kiteboarder gone conscious creatrix on a mission to empower people to design the life of their wildest dreams and live in Divine flow. This is Malin’s second appearance on the podcast, previously appearing on episode 119 where we talked a lot more about her kiteboarding career and what she learned through that. In THIS episode we dive in more what life looks like as she transitions from a career in kiteboarding and dives fully into the spiritual awakening she’s experienced and the sense of divine flow she now allows to guide her.
Imaya Sabine is a human experience student & expert. She breaks down esoteric teachings and psychological insights into actionable, everyday life practices for happiness, mental health, and emotional equilibrium. Diagnosed with depression and hospitalized for her mental health at age 20, she decided to leave the world of modern medicine and psychotherapy behind and travel far and wide in search for real answers. After a decade of searching and experimenting, she has not only healed her own mental illnesses, she has become a model and mentor for a new kind of well-being and freedom that the world is just beginning to recognize is our future. Imaya demonstrates how our human experience and spiritual path are one and the same, and how we can use our daily life for spiritual awakening just as much as a yoga or meditation practice could. She brings spirituality down to Earth, as well as expands the current limitations of psychotherapy by recognizing that all our mental and emotional neuroses are rooted in the forgetting of who we really are.
Aaron is a friend who I’ve known for years and he’s a Transformational Sex and Relationship Coach, Facilitator and Speaker. He came from a childhood of chaos, and dysfunction and at a young age completely lost faith in humanity. After attending the prestigious US Merchant Marine Academy, he found a great job, traveled the world and made tons of money, but realized he wanted more. His soul journey brought him close to death numerous times on both the high seas and his travels to remotes places across the globe. Through these experiences he realized that life is not about personal achievements and egotistic desires, but rather about deep soul remembrance and fulfilling one’s dharma. He has learned from the great masters in the fields of sexuality and transformation, including earning a master’s degree in spiritual psychology. Now he helps his clients remember who they truly are in order to awaken their inner erotic wisdom. Aaron went from being a licensed captain navigating ships to a sexual behavior and movement specialist navigating souls. His workshops, retreats, sessions and speeches help humans integrate body movement, psychology, sexuality and spirituality. He speaks and shares honestly and transparently so that others can unlock the real reason for their human existence. Aaron is now fulfilling his own dharma and has dedicated his life to helping humanity wake up and remember their soul’s unique gift. www.AaronKleinerman.com

Everyone needs a superhero. For Jonathan, he became his own superhero. --- In November 2016, Jonathan packed his bags and left his job at Union Pacific Railroad. For a year and a half, he lived in a van and washed dishes on the side - what for? To become who he truly is: Superman. With a suit that he got from an Etsy shop, he started taking breathtaking self-portraits of himself and fully transformed into Superman. You might have seen his photos pop up on your social media feeds. At first glance, it looks breathtaking! Jonathan appreciates all the compliments he receives for his awesome photos, but more importantly, he wants to inspire whoever comes across his photos. If a six-foot-two bearded Black man wears a Superman suit while doing groceries or running errands, then you can too. As a matter of fact, you can be whoever you want to be as long as you're doing good and not stepping on anybody's toes. Jonathan's habit of thought includes waking up each morning, thinking positive thoughts. Meanwhile, his habit of action has him writing down the things he wants to accomplish during the day, saying that writing them down makes them more "real" rather than just random thoughts. During his spare time, Jonathan works hard to perfect his craft by teaching himself new skills to keep himself relevant. Are you inspired yet? Listen in to learn more about Jonathan and his journey to becoming the hero he always wanted to be.

This episode is close to my heart, as aside from this being a birthday episode for me, the guest is also a special person in my life - my father. Until a year and a half ago, my father and I weren't in speaking terms. Something cracked open at that time, and our relationship has been nothing short of wonderful ever since. I was born in the year 1978, and I feel like it's timely to release this episode being episode 178 and my mother - who was also previously on the show - was on episode 78. Again, I've never thought my father and I would arrive at this point where we share wonderful stories of how our lives have unfolded. Stev Wood is currently based in India, but we've kept close communication ties with each other since we started talking again. He has visited me here in Bali for my birthday last year, and I'm very happy to be sharing my birthday this year with him through this podcast. You'll hear wonderful stories about my father's adventures, how he took me on some of them, and how those adventures more or less mirror the ones I've been on in this lifetime. Enjoy!

Hey Life Athletes, welcome to episode 172 of the Life Athletics podcast! Today’s guest Life Athlete is Ben Katzaman. I consider Ben as a genius. He started off as one of my coaching clients, sharing about his struggles in business and how he needed more energy for his business to thrive. He was almost ready to give up. But he didn’t. Ben took matters into his own hands by removing the blocks and working toward his goals, eventually crushing the business he started with the local Balinese community. It’s true that when you take on a mindset shift (and putting in a lot of hard work), things can become better. Business improves. Your entire life unravels to show you what you’re good at and what will help you skyrocket toward your goal. Ben founded the social enterprise called Wanderer Bracelets - after getting lost in the Balinese jungles and stumbling into talented artisan carvers. He asked them to make bracelets for him to bring back to friends at home. In time, he discovered that this could be something that could work really well - both for him and for the locals. He loves supporting the artisans and helps them by understanding exactly what they need and what their struggles are, and how he can make their lives better by providing them a sustained, long-term livelihood that the can actually get income on a daily basis from. Learn more about Ben’s amazing “wandering” journey and get ready to be inspired. Connect with Ben here. Get your own Wanderer Bracelet here. 0 Likes

Hey Life Athletes, welcome to episode 168 of the Life Athletics podcast! Today’s guest Life Athlete is Elizabeth Grojean. Elizabeth Grojean is the founder of Baloo Living, a product company founded on principals of self-care and holistic wellness. After 15 years in corporate America, she left it behind to ask, who am I I'm not what I do? "I take time in the morning to be with myself and be quiet." With only $9,000 in savings, Elizabeth made it a mission to build a sustainable business - and what better way to learn the ropes than by actually meeting and getting tips from people who have actually done and seen success in the Amazon FBA industry. So she left for Bali. After a one year sabbatical she emerged from Bali to launch Baloo's first product, a weighted blanket, and is on track to gross 250K in her first six months in business. Her journey, though, is not perfect - from delivering disappointing news to former business partners to flying to China (and getting into some immigration hiccup) to fix product inspections. Listen to how she faced all the struggles and challenges and emerged victorious. Check out Baloo Living here.
Hey Life Athletes, welcome to episode 167 of the Life Athletics podcast! Today’s guest Life Athlete is Colin O'Brady. “Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.” At 22, Colin thought his life was over when what seemed like harmless fun in a remote village in Thailand turned into a nightmare. He was participating in a fire dance with a jumprope; the next thing he knew, his feet was entangled in the rope and he was burning up to the neck. Doctors told him that he would not be able to work properly again. Yet here we are with Colin, speaking to us about stories from completing a triathlon and Snapchatting from the peak of Mt. Everest. “Us humans have these reservoirs of untapped potential inside of us and we can achieve incredible things, particularly when we focus our mind and we commit to the process, and more importantly, when we believe they are possible.” Colin tells us that all things you really want to enjoy in life require some sort of challenge. Not being one to back down, Colin - with the encouragement of his very supportive mother - got up and began breaking ceilings. Since the accident and since getting back in shape, Colin has conquered The Explorers Grand Slam and went on to break two world records. “We aren’t experts, but we are curious enough to wake up every day and keep taking a few more steps.” He's not stopping at all of his achievements. Colin wants others to take a challenge and break records too. So he started a non-profit called Beyond 7/2, which aims to raise awareness and funds to inspire kids and their communities to lead active, healthy kids and pursue their biggest dreams. Hey Life Athletes, welcome to episode 164 of the Life Athletics podcast! Today’s guest Life Athlete is Miro Heyink. Miro is the founder of Manifest X. He works with people to allow them to live their 10 out of 10 life. “You’re not gonna get a yes, unless you’re willing to get a no.” On this episode, host Nik Wood and Miro talk about making conscious decisions, acknowledging yourself for all the hard work you've put in, and celebrating life by building communities that make an impact in the world. “Saying something positive about yourself is frowned upon - but that’s unnecessary.” Miro opens up about a time when he was doing everything "right." His career was flourishing, his personal relationships were going great, he was earning well, and everybody was congratulating him. Deep inside, though, he felt quite the opposite. He was deeply unfulfilled. He knew that he needed to make a shift. Miro then decided to work on himself more - and now, he's paying it forward by helping others get through their struggles. “If I have a day that I am grateful for, that’s a win.” Listen in to the conversation to learn more about "Miro the Hero" and how he shifted his focus from the negative to the positive and what type of impact that made on his life.
