What motivates creative people to do what they do, especially when they use their drive, determination and talents to change the world? The Proust Questionnaire is thought in action. It's a personality test that allows us a glimpse behind the proverbial curtain of creative people's minds. Each guest answers the same 35 questions that were first popularized as a parlor game by French novelist Marcel Proust about a hundred years ago. But these questions are timeless, and you’ll quickly find yourself thinking with our guests, rather than about their answers. Be moved, entertained, and inspired to do good yourself when you listen to our guests tell us what they love, fear, and hope for in these oral portraits of great minds.

Exploding flower arrangements, meticulously staged scenes of beautiful destruction, haunted landscapes, still lives brought to their sublime end as if a host of angels unfolded their terrible wings just a bit too close.... Ori Gersht's photographs are unlike anything you've seen before. Gersht was born in Israel in 1967, but has lived in London for over 30 years. His photographs, films and books are concerned with the relationships between history, memory and landscape - and with the way we still look at photographs as giving us the 'real,' although we know the naked eye cannot perceive what the camera distills. We were absolutely thrilled Ori was willing to answer the questions first made famous by Proust. He's not a Romantic, really, but as close to a mystic as you may find in today's world of photography and art. What happens in museum when the crowds have gone? Hugh Evans is an Australian humanitarian, co-founder of both The Oaktree Foundation and Global Citizen, a Global Poverty Project. At age 14, Evans spent the night in a Manila slum. Hugh Evans was the youngest person ever to be named Australian of the Year and now head of 'The Oaktree Foundation' and 'The Global Poverty Project,' a major charity to end the suffering caused by poverty which includes the Global Citizen initiatives. Focused on ending global poverty by moving the masses with music and action, Evans left Down Under to set the stage for a world devoid of unnecessary suffering caused by preventable inequality, indigence, hunger and disease. Anna Condo is a French director and photographer who was born in Armenia and now lives in New York. She began an acting career, then in 1988 turned to photography. In 1989, Anna moved to the United States and worked on many projects. She started writing and making movies. During this period, Anna continued to take photographs and collaborated with many artists. In 1998, She published her first book “AH Allen,” a powerful tribute to her friend and poet Allen Ginsberg. Since 2013, Anna has been focusing on flower photography. Is it a snub to this society that is constantly reinventing the rules? Or simply the observation that the real is elsewhere? Some view the flower as naive. Anna’s works prove the opposite. These images that can be compared to portraits, impose respect. Indeed here the flower is no longer fragile. She is strong, sometimes arrogant. She symbolizes this nature that only bends to the elements. A real break in the world in which we live in. The flower is a lady first and foremost. A feminist before its time. Sophia Chang has been the manager for several musical acts that have broken boundaries and continue to define our times, including D’Angelo, the RZA of the Wu Tang Clan, and others. For Chang as a Korean-Canadian woman, being —as the title of her memoir published in 2019—The Baddest Bitch in the Room is not a choice but a moral necessity. Chang charts with laser-sharp focus and zen-like humility a blazing trail for those whose voices, bodies, and minds had been for too long denied entry to raucous recording studios and hallowed halls of power. /////////////// Follow us: TWITTER - @ulibaer / @corklinedRoom INSTAGRAM - @ulinyc / @carolineweber2020 (THE PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE) - @proust.questionnaire SOPHIA CHANG - @sophchangnyc //////////////// Listen to the Podcast on: APPLE PODCASTS - Proust Questionnaire Podcast SPOTIFY - Proust Questionnaire Podcast YOUTUBE: Ulrich Baer //////////////// Thanks for listening! :) Uli Baer & Caroline Weber.
Robert Couturier is one of the most prestigious interior designers. His name has been included in Architectural Digest’s prestigious annual list of the best decorators and architects in the world, has become synonymous with continental and international style. Robert Couturier made design history in 1987 when the billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith, who could have engaged any architect and decorator in the known world to do his bidding, followed his legendary instincts and entrusted the 32-year-old Couturier with what would amount to the single greatest private commission of modern times: the re-conception, execution, and continuous embellishment – down to the last gilded detail – of Goldsmith’s 20,000-acre kingdom on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Crowned by a 60,000-square-foot vaulted-and-tile-domed hilltop palace called La Loma, the estate, before the designer was through, would come to include vast satellite villas and assorted guest pavilions. He would later complete the grandiose picture by decorating Goldsmith’s Boeing 757 (”a flying carpet with a motor”), double-width Manhattan townhouse, and historic French chateau. /////////////// Follow us: TWITTER - @ulibaer / @corklinedRoom INSTAGRAM - @ulinyc / @carolineweber2020 (THE PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE) - @proust.questionnaire ROBERT COUTURIER - @robertcouturier58 //////////////// Listen to the Podcast on: APPLE PODCASTS - Proust Questionnaire Podcast SPOTIFY - Proust Questionnaire Podcast YOUTUBE: Ulrich Baer //////////////// Thanks for listening! :) Uli Baer & Caroline Weber.
