Ep 260 “The CottageCore AR-15” – National Gun Violence Awareness Month (Bullet Poof Bulletins) Celebrating the launch of eco-fiction anti-gun novella Bullet Poof and National Gun Violence Awareness Month, Avis Kalfsbeek brings back beloved Kitty O'Compost with the Bullet Poof Bulletins. Tonight on the Spoke-Easy stage, Kitty O'Compost deconstructs a truly bizarre update from the suburban backyard horticultural circuit. This bulletin satirizes an absolute logistical stir on Magnolia Lane, where a resident attempted a social experiment by bringing a highly customized rifle platform—the CottageCore AR-15—to a neighborhood garden club meeting. Refinished in matte sage green with hand-painted floral engravings and a custom tweed shoulder strap, the weapon was placed right next to heirloom tomato seedlings in an effort to launder an industry of fear by wrapping it in a cozy Pinterest aesthetic. Inspired by the grounding, collaborative themes of Bullet Poof, this episode laughs at this astonishing piece of self-delusion and reminds us that true safety is found when we stop investing in the profit of pain and start building relaxed community connection. Resources: Bullet Poof is a hopeful eco-fiction novella about what happens when ordinary people refuse to accept the gun status quo. Today we read through some of your questions and comments, and we start with a comment about Magnolia Lane at Augusta which Nick made last week. Whilst talking The Masters, it was exciting to see the GolfLoot prize drawn on Sunday - Geoff from Moonah Links won a trip to next years Masters with a friend!! Unbelievable !!! Heaps of other great prizes on offer at GolfLoot, including playing with, and having a lesson from, Nick O'Hern. Details here. After Mark revealed on the show last week that he does not eat fruit, not most fruits anyway, Nick and Dan were horrified and thought that nobody else would share this dislike of fruit.....turns out we were wrong. We were inundated with feedback from fellow fruit-hating wolfpackers who were backing Mark up. We read out 3 or 4 of the dozens we received. Which flows into a chat about Vegemite, American bread, Peanut Butter.....this podcast has clearly jumped the shark. So onto the golf. Wolfpacker Mark has some feedback on commentators from The Masters, Paul has a comment about a commentator he loved who was unceremoniously dumped from The Masters coverage after a couple of gags that the Men of the Masters did not appreciate.Bruiser enjoyed the 66/76/86/96/06/16 Masters analysis last week, but suggested the 79 win by Gary Player is equally worth a chat, he's not wrong, it was a ripper. Mark makes a diary note to do that in 2029. Fair chance he'll forget. But we do kick around the 7's...Roy loved the recent chat with Mike Harwood, if you haven't heard it or watched it - worth a look/listen, Mike is a gun.And we finish on some memories of one of the gentlemen of Australian golf, Alex Mercer, who turned 92 a few weeks ago. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; And Southern Golf Club. Masters Week bei Tee Time!

Former Congressman Marty Russo, whom Dan Jenkins, Senior Writer for Golf Digest once called “way too good at golf to be a servant of the People” discusses the changes in Congress over the years even beyond his tenure, the importance of compromise and bipartisanship, and the role of golf in politics and getting things done. Russo also shares his experiences playing golf with various presidents and celebrities, emphasizing the camaraderie and friendships that were formed on the golf course. He discusses the importance of golf in politics and how it can help build relationships and promote teamwork. Russo also mentions his work on the committee to help the PGA Tour get their charitable status. In this conversation, Marty Russo, former U.S. Congressman and avid golfer, shares his experiences playing golf and his thoughts on the game. He discusses his memories of playing at Augusta National, the vibe when arriving at Magnolia Lane, and the proposed rules to roll back the golf ball's distance. Russo also gives advice for beginners and reflects on the joy of playing golf at any age. The conversation concludes with a rapid-fire round of golf-related questions. Takeaways The lack of compromise and bipartisanship in today's Congress is a major issue. Gerrymandering has contributed to the polarization and lack of cooperation in Congress Golf can be a powerful tool for building relationships and promoting teamwork in politics Playing golf with presidents and celebrities can provide unique opportunities for networking and camaraderie The charitable status of the PGA Tour was an important issue that helped promote golf and raise funds for charity Playing golf at Augusta National is a surreal experience that leaves a lasting impression. The proposed rules to roll back the golf ball's distance are necessary to preserve older golf courses. Getting lessons from a professional and practicing regularly are key to improving at golf. Golf is a game that can be enjoyed at any age and provides a unique opportunity for building relationships. I kick it off with Tom Patri, who has been out there several times with his good friend, 1992 Masters Champion Fred Couples. Also joining me in Part 1 is John Cook. Cookie played in 15 Masters tournaments dating back to 1979. He earned his way into that Masters field with his victory in the 1978 US Amateur. Tom Patri shares stories of being alongside Fred Couples during his run to the Green Jacket in '92. To this day, none of us know how Fred's tee shot on #12 didn't roll back into Rae's Creek. We hear what Fred's reaction was. Tom also shares some of his other favorite Masters memories, the legends he wished could have donned a Green Jacket, and current players he'd love to see win. I also get his thoughts on Scottie Scheffler's place in history if he were to win his second Masters. Check out Tom's YouTube Channel where you can get over 300 free video lessons: https://www.youtube.com/@TomPatriGolf John Cook takes us down Magnolia Lane, remembering that first drive up alongside his mentor Ken Venturi. We hear about his night in the Crows Nest and the Augusta National memorabilia he collected over the years. I also get Cookie's thoughts on what's driving television ratings down, and why the networks are trying to replace the great Analysts that many of us love. Masters week, one of the most exciting weeks in world golf! Nick and Mark loved seeing some of the pictures and videos of Drive, Chip and Putt Day at Augusta at the weekend, and were impressed with some of the young ones, but amazed at the composure of the kids playing in front of some icons of the game. But back to the Masters. Nick believes that there is nothing like Masters week, the energy, the feel, the media focus, he loves it, as does Mark. And Mark asks Nick how he felt driving down Magnolia Lane when he first played the Masters. And he chats about the overall experience of being there. Thursday this week we'll have a Masters bonus pod, which will be a must-listen. And later in this episode, we'll get Nick and Marks tips. What a finish at the Texas Open, an incredible finish with an incredible back 9 from Denny McCarthy hitting 28! But it wasn't enough to nail the win with youngster Akshay Bhatia holding on under enormous pressure for the win. Nick and Mark talk about how incredible it was to see such a performance from the young Akshay when Denny was coming for him. Mark says, in Moneyball style, he doesn't believe that Akshay would be chosen in a team environment, as he doesn't have, on the surface, the attributes you look for - yet he is developing into a wonderful golfer, and Mark loves it and this is one of the things he loves about golf, the only measure that matters is the score you shoot.A fun Top 5 from Nick, Aussie superstar Karrie Webb made this list, remember this?Pod listener Damian calls in with a question about his driver, he has just bought a new PING G430 Max 10k driver and loves it, but has a question for Nick and Mark about shafts. And being Masters week - we get Nick and Marks tips. They each give us who they think will win, and why, which notable player won't win and why, and who their respective dark horse is. Interestingly, the player Mark believes can't win, is the one Nick believes will win. Controversial.Into the PING global results, and there are plenty. Nick takes us through them all.As usual, plenty of feedback, we love it, so keep it coming either on voicemail, email or socials.Mark's turn for the Masterclass, and this week it is for golfers with 'hands of gold'.We're here each week with the great support of PING, see your local golf shop or professional for a PING club fitting. Hello friends, Happy Masters Week! Blakely talks about her interesting trip to the dentist, and Sonja recaps her husband-free weekend full of Love Is Blind and Blizzards. What an amazing week for Ladies' golf! The Augusta National Women's Amateur was incredible to watch - Rose Zhang and Jenny Bae went to a 2 hole playoff before Rose came out on top. The LPGA DIO Implant LA Open came down to the wire with Ruoning Yin and Georgia Hall, but Yin held on to win by 1 stroke leaving Georgia in the 2nd place spot for the 2nd tournament in a row. Blakely was so happy to watch her boy Corey Conners put on his shiny new cowboy boots after winning the Valero Texas Open. Her only hope now is for him to get a green jacket to go with those boots! We're only a few sleeps away from the Masters! The girls talk about driving up to Magnolia Lane, asking high school acquaintances for Sunday tickets, who they think from LIV will perform well, Blakely gives us an Augusta history lesson, Tiger and Bryson have a falling out, and Blakely and Sonja make a bet on if the winner will cry. If you haven't joined our Masters pool, head to the link in our Instagram Bio - you have until 6 am MST on Thursday, April 6th! Thank's for listening!! NFL free agency has officially begun as the new league year has started, and teams have wasted no time to start making BIG splashes. The boys get into this week's show recapping the Ravens moves so far, some big free agent chips to fall, as well as some potential moves we could see in the coming days. Moving on from football, we get back into our World Baseball Classic talk on the heels of our friend Rochie joining us last episode. We're nearing the end of the group stage, and some teams have had expected success, while others have stumbled and triumphed much to our surprise. Next we dive into a little golf talk following world #1 ranked Scottie Scheffler's 5 stroke win at the Player's Championship this past weekend at TPC Sawgrass. With only four tournaments until we all make that stroll up Magnolia Lane, we talk about where we are with Golf today. Finally, Dante and Scoot end the show talking about the greatest sports tournament there has ever been: March Madness. Dante and Scoot both give their predictions on who they see cutting the nets, as well as some potential upsets and games to watch.

Dottie Pepper became the first On-Course Commentator in Master's history. She shares the story of how that came about, plus Tiger's surprise when he saw her inside the ropes. She also tells the stories of how she was able to get into Augusta National and down Magnolia Lane to see the final round of the 1987 Masters when she was a senior at Furman. She answers the question of what the greatest round is that she's ever witnessed either as a player or commentator, and the dramatic finish from when she captured her first LPGA major championship victory at the 1992 ANA Inspiration. Nick O'Hern talks about his new book "How To Play Your Best Golf, Strategies From A Tour Pro. I also get his thoughts on players going over to the LIV Tour, what his strategy was that allowed him to beat Tiger Woods twice in World Match Play events, plus why players insist on going for the pin on 12 at Augusta National during the final round when we've seen so many of those shots wind up in Rae's Creek. Michael Breed starts out talking about his dream to play Major League Baseball and the time when he pitched back-to-back games one righthanded and one lefthanded. We hear about the endowment fund he started for the men's golf team at his college alma mater in honor of his coach Ted Keller. Michael also shares his experience qualifying for and then playing in the 1994 Greater Hartford Open. I get his perspective on the LIV Tour, plus Lexi Thompson's performance at the KPMG PGA Championship.
