Our guest is Gustav Magnusson , who will present his new book , entitled « Keynote Conversations  - 100 Interviews for Reinventing the City » is a collection of 100 interviews with urban experts from around the world. The book has been described as "a Pecha-Kucha urban planning festival in book form" and includes city directors from cities such as Toronto, Nuuk (Greenland), Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, Melbourne, and Copenhagen, advisors to mayors in Paris, Sydney, and London, and professors from Harvard, UNESCO, and the London School of Economics. Renowned experts such as Alejandro Aravena, Carlos Moreno, and Finn Williams are also featured. Through the book, the author asks the experts about the challenges today's cities face, the attitude we need to address them, how to manage urgent issues, how to create urban visions, take action, and ultimately envision the futures of our living environments. But is it really the future we are looking for? Or are we perhaps searching for ourselves? Here is the bio of the author: Gustav Magnusson is an urban planner, FPR/MSA, certified EU-Urbact expert, board advisor, and founder of the urban planning studio For Elize in Malm®, Greater Copenhagen, Sweden. He has lived and worked in seven countries across twelve cities and has led and advised international teams in early complex urban planning for prominent architectural firms in Europe. In 2024, he was awarded the Europe 40 Under 40 prize, highlighting Europe's most promising young architects and designers. He is a keynote speaker and the third generation in a family of architects and journalists. With a passion for showcasing the diversity of ideas and perspectives within urban planning, he hopes to inspire new ways of thinking about the environments where we spend our lives together.

Two thirds of the world’s population are expected to live in cities by 2050 according to the UN. But where will all these extra people actually live? Budgets to build new social housing are limited, so one architect has been working on a radical solution. To cut costs, Alejandro Aravena suggests providing people with only half a house that they complete at a later date with their own money. Several estates have already been built this way around the world. Tom Garmeson travelled to one in Chile to see how people are living in these new communities. When news broke yesterday that Alejandro Aravena was the winner of this year's Pritzker Architecture Prize, reactions were generally positive, but a bit conflicted. Aravena's most known, and cited by the Pritzker, for his work on social housing projects in his home base of Santiago de Chile, where he operates as the executive director of the "do tank", ELEMENTAL. And few would contest that his work is worthy of the prize, despite the fact that he's only 48. But Aravena was also a Pritzker juror from 2009 - 2015, serving alongside jurors who ultimately chose to cite him, and he isn't the first winner to have previously served on the jury. This makes it impossible to ignore criticism that the award tends to stay within a pretty tight-knit circle of practitioners. Often described as the most prestigious architecture award out there, what is the point of the prize nowadays, and is its significance justified? We wanted to know more about how the Pritzker is awarded, and its self-awareness in the eye of architects as well as the greater public. On the day the Pritzker was announced, Martha Thorne, executive director of the Pritzker Prize, generously gave us insight into "the room where it happens" – how the jury's deliberation work, and why Aravena's work is deserving of the prize.

(fotoğraf: ©Alejandro Aravena)2010′da Monocle dergisinin "dünyanın 20 yeni kahramanı" arasında gösterdiği Aravena, Venedik Bienali yönetim kurulunun duyurusunun ardından şu açıklamayı yaptı:“There are several battles that need to be won and several frontiers that need to be expanded in order to improve the quality of the built environment and consequently people's quality of life. This is what we would like people to come and see at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition: success stories worth to be told and exemplary cases worth to be shared where architecture did, is and will make a difference in those battles and frontiers. The 15th International Architecture Exhibition will be about focusing and learning from architectures that through intelligence, intuition or both of them at the same time, are able to escape the status quo. We would like to present cases that, despite the difficulties, instead of resignation or bitterness, propose and do something. We would like to show that in the permanent debate about the quality of the built environment, there is not only need but also room for action”.Merakla bekliyoruz.

When asked to build housing for 100 families in Chile ten years ago, Alejandro Aravena looked to an unusual inspiration: the wisdom of favelas and slums. Rather than building a large building with small units, he built flexible half-homes that each family could expand on. It was a complex problem, but with a simple solution — one that he arrived at by working with the families themselves. With a chalkboard and beautiful images of his designs, Aravena walks us through three projects where clever rethinking led to beautiful design with great benefit.
