When times are tough, we often look to the past for comfort. And while the shine tends to come off and the cracks start to appear as most things age, sometimes nostalgia for the good old days blurs our vision and skews our memory. That's because nostalgia makes you feel something – it moves you. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy. It makes you spend your money and it demands your attention. But, it can also be another type of gatekeeping. It can trigger you and when we canonise or idolise nostalgic moments it can hold us back from progress. Today, we lie down on the Sanctum's therapy couch and revisit the nostalgic moments that informed the young football fan inside of us. It's an attempt to leave things in the past – which is exactly where they belong – so we can cherish in its place the moment we are in right now. Col mio senso dell'umorismo un po' malizioso mi caccio in situazioni imbarazzanti.TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]C'ho un problema coi pronomi. Anzi no, ho problemi coi pronomi su diversi fronti. Quindi quando io partecipo a gruppi, a incontri d'oltralpe, in lingua inglese dico "Mi chiamo Cristina Marras, pronouns she/her", quindi mi chiamo Cristina Marras e uso i pronomi 'she', al nominativo, e poi 'her' in tutti gli altri casi in inglese. I pronomi di genere (in genere...).mp3I have a problem with pronouns. Actually no, I have problems with pronouns on several fronts. So, whenever I try to translate something from English into Italian, I face the problem of pronouns that by now English speakers are used to, as soon as they introduce themselves, saying the name, then the pronouns they use. So when I participate in groups, in transalpine meetings, in English I say "My name is Cristina Marras, pronouns she/her," so my name is Cristina Marras and I use the pronouns 'she', in the nominative, and then 'her' in all other cases in English. Now in Italian this does not exist, it is not used, in Italian actually it is all made incredibly difficult by the fact that every article, noun, adjective, often even some verb forms are declined depending on gender. So if I want to avoid using sexist, macho language where using the masculine also means women, if I want to give visibility to the other gender as well, I say "all male and all female," another problematic thing is that in Italian the neutral form doesn't exist, so while in English you say "they," and it means, it is neither male nor female, it can be anything, any gender, in Italian this is not possible .Why am I telling you this? Because I have a wicked sense of humor, which means a little mischievous, a little silly even, for some people. So the other day I was just in one of these meetings, with other people who came from all over the world, but mostly English-speaking people, and when we did the round of introductions I introduced myself by saying "my name is Cristina Marras and the pronouns I use are 'she' and 'her' and then I added 'her Majesty' which is like saying Her Excellency, yes her monarch, Majesty is usually used for the queen. And there were some people who were annoyed because there was a bit of an impression that I was making fun of the fact that I was using, that people (rightly so) demand inclusive language that recognises all genres. And I felt terrible about it, first of all because I have a personal relationship with the queen. When I became an Australian citizen I had to swear allegiance to the queen, but for real, just with the thing there, I didn't swear on the Bible however I had to swear allegiance to the queen because I am subject. And then guys, with the hard work I do every day to try to use an inclusive language, me of all people, I mean, it's a thing that you can never win, you have to constantly walk on eggshells and nothing, I will pay more attention, I promise, I promise, however leave me my sense of humor, but I will reserve it for other circumstances. This I promise you.

H.E.It is actually an abbreviation. 英语当中经常会出现缩写,比如:it is=it's,United States=US。 His Excellency可以用来尊称(a polite way to address)officials of very high rank高级别的官员,比如ambassadors(大使)or governors(州长)。 His Excellency, the French ambassador 法国大使阁下His Excellency, Xi JinPing 习主席阁下例句:His Excellency the President will be waiting for you in the hall. *Excellency /ˈeksələnsi/n. l 称呼王,使用Majesty(/ˈmædʒəsti/),陛下。 比如说:Yes,your Majesty! What? His Majesty is sleeping alone again? His Majesty has requested an audience /ˈɔːdiəns/. l 称呼王子、公主、太子、亲王、格格等,使用Highness(/ˈhaɪnəs/),殿下。 His Royal Highness Prince Charles. This goes for all the other princes or princessesas well. 比如:还珠格格:Her Royal Highness Princess Huanzhu.果郡王允礼:His Royal Highness Yunli. Peters。 An。 Blackson。04. MME.也是一个abbreviation(/əˌbri:viˈeɪʃn/缩略词),是法语单词Madame(英语madam)的缩写。Madame means Miss.

Israel's world leading vaccine rollout (Episode 52) dominated headlines as Ambassador Hotovely took the London reigns from Mark Regev in August 2020. Then the fourth Gaza War ignited wicked antisemitism on our streets. I ask what Israel's mission can do to help Britain's diaspora. She was born in Rehovot in 1978, the daughter of ardent Zionist immigrants from Soviet Georgia. As with Ambassador Regev (Episode 31), we talk about social mobility in Israel, the dynamism of the economy. Tragically, anti-Zionism exists among young Jewish people across the West, in the US. And here too. Heads are being turned by media and peer pressure. But while 75% of American Jews support Israel as a Jewish state, 85% say it's “important or very important” to stand up for the “oppressed or marginalised”. Overbearing anti-Israel narrative makes bias out of balance. Palestinianism is cheered on by halfwit football wokery and TV celebrities. Her Excellency has a message for those in the diaspora less than supportive of the Jewish state. Britain took time to decide to join Australia, Canada and the USA in not sending a representative to Durban IV, a twentieth anniversary commemoration of the first Durban conference against racism which descended into hatred, antisemitism and the birthplace of the modern language of delegitimisation of Israel. Listen up for her thoughts on that, the Abraham Accords and the chances of peace with Joe Biden in the White House.

About a month ago, Tim spotted this article in the National Post that posited an interesting idea – could Prince Harry be the next Governor General of Canada? In theory, he absolutely could, along with pretty much anyone else we wanted to (GG Chaz Bono, anyone?), but is it really a good idea? And what the heck is a Governor General, anyway? Does Canada need the last vestiges of the monarchy? Is there a practicality to having this (albeit minimal) executive power in 2018? Well, wax up your monocles and put on your finest trousers, we’re getting all sorts of British up this episode!   Also Overheard: The Jerrys? Here?  Vulcan, Alberta is a real and magic place.  What exactly IS a Governor General? The Queen is not a racist Italian caricature. Probably. The Americans SHUT DOWN the government. We PROROGUE ours.  Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette is the Governor General of Canada. Sorry about that. Mike is a monarchist. The Rob Ford Heritage Minute  “The problem with the Governor General isn’t the lack of hats!“   We want to hear what you think! Don’t just yell angrily at whatever dumb thing Tim just said, or laugh derisively at one of Mike’s opinons! Her Excellency has worked in the diplomatic corps since the late 1990s, with postings in Singapore and Tehran in the past. On today's podcast Ambassador Potzel speaks to Kathy Sheridan about growing up in East Berlin before the wall came down in 1989 and about how life for women in the east was very different to the west when that happened. They also speak about the recent referendum on the 8th amendment and Germany’s abortion laws, before delving into Brexit, the rise of the far right, immigration and Germany’s role in Ireland’s austerity after the collapse of the banking system… just a few light topics of a Thursday.
