Étienne de Crécy is one of the architects of the French Touch movement—those lush, filter-heavy grooves that shaped house music in the ‘90s, right alongside acts like Daft Punk, Air, and Alex Gopher. But his journey didn't start in the clubs. Before electronic music, he was a punk bassist, navigating Parisian record shops that looked down on house music before the scene exploded worldwide.In this conversation, Étienne reflects on three decades of pushing electronic music forward, from his groundbreaking Super Discount series to his latest album, Warm Up. La music story du jour c'est celle d'Alex Gopher…Alex Gopher dont le nom de scène est évident. La croisière s'amuse en début d'histoire. PuisDavid Bowie, les Stones, New Order… les premiers amours musicaux d'Alex Gopher puisait clairement dans le rock, ou les années new wave. Mais ce natif de Versailles ne pouvait échapper au génie de la lampe qui a décidé de faire de la ville, le QG de la French Touch. Ainsi donc Alex Gopher finira par tomber nez à nez avec les machines et les samplers, par se faire potes avec Air ou avec Etienne de Crécy et très tôt sortiront les premières productions « You, My Baby and I » par exemple ou mieux encore, le mythique « Party People »

La music story du jour c'est celle de Phoenix…Rassurez-vous, une seule music story ne parviendra jamais à éponger l'énorme cascade que fut la French Touch, ses artistes, ses talents. Mais si on veut se concentrer sur l'essentiel, alors prenons le chemin d'une bourgade appelée Versailles, qui fut autrefois témoin de 1000 et une fêtes, celles organisées en son château par le Roi Soleil. Versailles ville royale mais l'histoire avec un grand H c'est aussi celle de la French Touch et là où c'est drôle c'est que beaucoup d'artistes sont nés ou venus de Versailles, Air, Alex Gopher ou encore le duo qui nous intéresse aujourd'hui : Phoenix

2007 war French House eigentlich schon ein alter Hut, Laurent Garnier, Etienne de Crecy, St. Germain, Cassius, Alex Gopher, Daft Punk - diese Namen waren längst etabliert, da erschien ein Album, das den französischen Elektrokosmos nochmal umkrempelte. Das Debütalbum von Justice mit dem Titel "Cross". Sie flankierten ihre Elektro und Disco-Beats mit brachialen Synthiesounds und brachten diese neue Mischung in die Stadien. 17 Jahre später sind sie wieder da mit ihrem erst 4. (!) Album. Es heißt "Hyperdrama" und ist beim legendären Elektro-label Ed Banger erschienen. Was hinter diesem Titel steckt, wie sie ihr neues Album geschichtet und nochmal geschichtet haben, warum ihr Album mal nervig und mal total mitreißend ist (und warum das gewollt ist), was das Album mit Björk zu tun hat, wie sie zum Ende von Daft Punk und zur Moon-Safari-Tour von Air stehen und was ihnen das RADIO bedeutet – das alles erzählen Justice in den Elektro Beats mit Steen Lorenzen.

Aujourd'hui je suis chez Translab, ce studio spécialisé en mastering dans lequel Alex Gopher travaille comme ingénieur du son.Évidemment, je ne peux pas le rencontrer sans qu'il me raconte sa carrière de musicien qu'il a débuté au milieu des années 90. Alex Gopher est à la fois, un des acteurs et un des fondateurs de ce que l'on appellera plus tard la French Touch. Tout le monde se souvient de son titre 'The Child', désormais culte qu'il décortique pour Melody Makers.
