If you're like me and grew up in the Government School system, you may have heard that the American Revolution was made possible by Enlightenment philosophy and deists who didn't believe in a Providential God. But, like many other things in our society, it seems like that idea is itself a lie. The fact is that George Washington, John Adams, and even Benjamin Franklin believed in a God that acted in the affairs of men. In this podcast, I had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Robert P. George from Princeton University, Dr. Stephen Meyer from the Discovery Institute, and Timothy Mahoney, the Founder of Thinking Man Films and Heroic Pictures. What do these three men have in common? They believe that the narrative we've been told about the American Revolution is a false one.We discussed their new movie, directed by Timothy Mahoney, The American Miracle. In this movie thinkers and scholars like Robert George and Stephen Meyer make the case that the American Revolution was made possible by the Providential hand of God working in the affairs of men - not merely enlightenment philosophy. They also make the claim that founders like George Washington and John Adams were prayerful Christians who believed that God was working in their own lives. We discussed all of this and so much more. Annie discusses an article she had written about C.S. Lewis's book, That Hideous Strength, and how Lewis thought Christians should live in the ever-increasingly technological world. Sign up here: https://www.orthodoxyandorder.com It's been well documented over the past decade that mainstream media is on its way out while new and independent outlets are on the way in. It's also been well documented that Protestant Christianity in the West is in moral decline. Theologians, pastors, authors, and laymen have forgotten that a Christian conviction is comprehensive and should touch every aspect of a believer's life. This was common knowledge throughout church history; if you're a Christian at church, you also have to be a Christian at home, at work, and at school. No exceptions. You even need to be a Christian on Election Day and in your involvement in politics and government. But, it seems that Christians in America haven't been able to put the pieces together. There has been so much talk of “third-wayism”, voting Democrat as a Christian, and “respecting everyone's political opinions” as if politics is somehow detached from theology. The fact is that politics are not detached from theology - in fact, it's actually an extension of theological conviction. To be Christians, we must care about policy, law, and governance in our country. We must care for and will the good of others in our society, beginning first with those in our own home and then working our way out to the rest of society. And the only way we can do that is by knowing what is actually happening around us, in our city, state, and country. We have no be informed to be able to act in love. I've found it disturbing to see different news outlets in the Christian realm fail to make the connection between theology, politics, ethics, and morality. Because, in reporting the news, you have to have moral clarity (something the American church has lost). Orthodoxy & Order is going to be different. I won't equivocate on moral issues like abortion and transgenderism like so many Protestants have in recent years. No, in fact, I will aim to tell it like it is - an immoral world requires Christians to be moral and just in their words and actions. Orthodoxy & Order will do just that. Every week on Friday I'll bring you the news from the past week with clear, theological commentary and precise reporting (along with some other interesting facts, book recommendations, and historical quotes). Christ brought us Orthodoxy and Orthodoxy produces clarity and Order, thus, I have named this newsletter Orthodoxy & Order. I hope you enjoy! In this episode, I break down the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump this past weekend. I talk about the ideology and manipulation that leads toward these types of outbreaks, why young people are saying that they wish the bullet hit him, and how Christians should respond to this type of news. Assassination attempt video:https://youtu.be/LAk6dXEzIUoFull ABC clip:https://youtu.be/XPmpKXy_3P8Secret Service Director About Page: https://www.secretservice.gov/about/leadership/directorKimberly Cheatle on making the Secret Service 30% woman: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/jul/14/secret-service-director-dei-hiring-under-scrutiny-/ Sign up for an Optiv Network subscription: https://optivnetwork.comFollow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/optivnetworkFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/OptivNetworkEmail us at andy@optivnetwork.com with your questions!Music: "nesting" by Birocratic (http://birocratic.lnk.to/allYL)

In this episode, I got to talk with Michael Ward. Ward is an English literary critic and theologian at the University of Oxford where he serves as an associate member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion. He is the author of many books including Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis and After Humanity: A Guide to C.S. Lewis's The Abolition of Man. Dr. Ward is also a Professor of Apologetics at Houston Christian University in Texas. Most notably, Ward was in The World Is Not Enough, a James Bond movie from 1999. Michael and I discuss his book, Planet Narnia in this episode. We talk about the Ward's finding of the secret hidden continuity between the seven books in the Chronicles of Narnia and how each book aligns with a medieval cosmological planet (it sounds crazy but it's not!). Planet Narnia is one of the most significant books on Lewis and children's fantasy of this past century, I hope you enjoy learning about it in this conversation. Enjoy! Dr. Schreiner also was the New Testament Editor for the English Standard Version Study Bible (ESV).We talked about his newest book, The Justice and Goodness of God. He discussed why Christians sometimes don't want to talk about God's judgment and wrath and why non-believers are so reluctant to listen to the truth of God's judgment. We also talked about the comprehensive nature of God's love and why one must believe in the wrath and judgment of God to have a full understanding of His love. Finally, we talked about how we should think about Hell and the eternal consequences of sin. I hope you enjoy!
