What is true revival, and can it be manufactured by people? In this episode of the 9941 Podcast, Granger, Tyler, and Parker tackle a sensitive but important conversation about revival, baptism, and the difference between a genuine move of God and man-made revivalism. Drawing from church history, the teachings of Jonathan Edwards, Charles Finney, and Scripture, the guys explore how God brings spiritual awakening, why language matters, and how Christians can lovingly encourage zeal while remaining grounded in biblical truth. If you’ve ever wondered what revival really means, how God works through His people, and how to discern spiritual movements in today’s culture, this episode offers a thoughtful and Christ-centered discussion. #9941Podcast #Revival #ChristianPodcast #GrangerSmith #FaithInChrist #BiblicalTruth #ChurchHistory #ChristianLiving #Gospel #RevivalismFollow the show: Instagram - https://www.Instagram.com/9941thepodcast Facebook - https://www.Facebook.com/9941thepodcast YouTube - https://www.YouTube.com/@9941ThePodcast Online - https://www.9941ThePodcast.com Shop - https://yeeyee.com/collections/faithSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on Mining the Media, G.K. Allen opens by praising LiveNOW from Fox for its straightforward news coverage while also expressing concern that some Fox programming suffers when talent fails to meet the standard expected by viewers. The conversation then turns to President Trump, where both hosts offer a friendly but direct critique. G.K. questions the wisdom of bringing professional wrestling-style entertainment into the White House, while Dave expresses concern that proposals such as renaming the Kennedy Center after a sitting president unnecessarily feed perceptions of ego and personality-driven politics. Dave's message to the President is simple: check the ego at the door. The episode then shifts into what G.K. has affectionately dubbed "Crusty's Corner." Drawing from Charles Finney's remarkable 1873 article, "The Decay of Conscience," Dave asks a provocative question: Could a sermon written more than 150 years ago explain what we're seeing in America today? Using Finney's warning that societies lose their conscience gradually—when wrong becomes tolerated, tolerated becomes accepted, and accepted becomes celebrated—Dave examines the modern decay of conscience across politics, media, entertainment, and culture. But Finney's most powerful challenge is reserved not for politicians, journalists, or celebrities. It is aimed squarely at the Church. As the discussion unfolds, listeners are confronted with a series of uncomfortable but necessary questions about moral courage, biblical conviction, and whether the Church has fulfilled its responsibility to shape the conscience of the nation. The result is a thought-provoking conversation that moves beyond partisan politics and challenges every listener to examine not only the condition of the culture, but the condition of their own conscience. Pastor Mike explains his theological opposition to altar calls. Reflecting on his 29 years of ministry, he argues that altar calls lack a New Testament mandate and dangerously confuse an outward physical act with a supernatural, inward new birth. He critiques methods popularized by Billy Graham and Charles Finney, asserting that they offer a superficial view of human depravity by appealing to human will rather than sovereign grace. Ultimately, Abendroth urges pastors to reject preacher-driven compliance and rely strictly on preaching the biblical commands to repent and believe. In 1853, during a severe drought, Charles Finney prayed for rain — and before he finished preaching, the rain began to fall. But what happens when the drought is not in the land… but in the soul?In this episode, America Pray Now Director Hanna Alway shares how spiritual dryness creeps into believers' lives, why God sometimes allows drought seasons, and how desperate, honest prayer can prepare the ground for heaven's rain once again.-------America Pray Now publishes a magazine on prayer that is free of charge and can be delivered directly to your home. What if the real reason we don't have revival… isn't God—but us?In this convicting episode of the Eyes on Jesus Podcast, Tim and Drew confront the uncomfortable truth many believers avoid: we say we want revival, but we resist the surrender it requires. Drawing from the bold teachings of Charles Finney and real-life ministry experience, this conversation exposes how passivity, fear, and hidden sin quietly block the move of God in our lives. From the tension between God's sovereignty and our responsibility to the danger of “waiting on God” as an excuse for disobedience, this episode will challenge how you think about revival. You'll also hear a powerful breakdown of why revival starts personally—not corporately—and why small acts of obedience matter more than hype moments. If you've ever felt stuck spiritually, struggled to follow through on what God is asking, or wondered why revival feels out of reach, this episode will hit deep. The truth is simple but piercing: you don't need more information—you need activation. Revival isn't coming to your church until it starts in you.Check out our merch store! https://eyesonjesuspodcast-shop.fourthwall.com/Get all our links in one easy place! https://linktr.ee/eyesonjesuspodcastGet the Eyes on Jesus 90 Day Discernment Devotionalhttps://a.co/d/3v8963sJoin our Group on Facebook- Eyes on Jesus podcast community https://www.facebook.com/groups/eyesonjesuspodcastEmail feedback, questions or show topic ideas to eyesonjesuspodcast@outlook.comFor more information on Drew Barker: Follow Drew on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/pastordrewbarkerDrew's church's website https://yes.online/For more information on Tim Ferrara: Get all his links in one place- to his social media, all 3 of his books, and more at https://linktr.ee/discerning_dad

Though they do not themselves identify as a denomination, it is nonetheless helpful for the series to see them as one. Due their own personal and family ties with the Churches of Christ, Cole and Jayna Middleton (members at Believers' Baptist Church) join the conversation to help bring clarity as the various issues are discussed. In this powerful episode, I sit down with Dr. Nathan Finn, one of evangelicalism's foremost historians of spiritual awakenings, to tackle one of the most pressing questions facing the church today: How do we discern between authentic moves of God and emotionalism that burns out as quickly as it ignites? Dr. Finn brings decades of research studying every major revival from Jonathan Edwards' Northampton awakening to recent movements like Asbury 2023, helping us understand what genuine spiritual renewal really looks like.We dive deep into the patterns that mark authentic revival throughout history - from the Moravian hundred-year prayer meeting that birthed modern missions to the controversies surrounding Charles Finney's revival techniques. Dr. Finn shares crucial insights about why some movements with unusual manifestations turn out genuine while others fizzle into hype, and reveals the red flags that indicate spiritual manipulation versus the Holy Spirit's authentic work. This conversation is especially timely as we see growing spiritual curiosity in our culture and wonder if we might be approaching another great awakening. In this episode you will learn:The biblical distinctions between revival, renewal, and awakeningThree unmistakable marks that appear in every genuine move of God throughout historyHow Jonathan Edwards discerned true conversion from religious excitementThe connection between authentic revival and missional explosionWarning signs that distinguish spiritual manipulation from real revivalWhy the church often becomes a counterculture right before major awakeningsHow to evaluate modern movements like Asbury 2023 while they're happeningThe historical patterns suggesting we might be approaching another great awakeningWhat pastors and Christians should be doing now to prepare for potential revivalWhy "staying close and staying clean" matters more than revival techniquesConnect with Dr. Nathan Finn:Website: nathanfinn.comSubstack: Think Christianly, Live FaithfullyBooks: Historical Theology for the Church (B&H Academic)Stay Connected with Johnny and The Dig In Podcast:Subscribe and follow our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@thejohnnyovaFollow all things Johnny Ova: https://linktr.ee/johnnyovaGet Johnny's book, The Revelation Reset: https://a.co/d/hiUkW8H#Revival #SpiritualAwakening #ChurchHistory #NathanFinn #Christianity #HolySpirit #JonathanEdwards #CharlesFinney #Asbury2023 #ChurchRevival #BiblicalDiscernment #DigInPodcast #ChristianPodcast #TheologyPodcast #ChurchMovementsSupport the show
"Rev. A. Nettleton." In another letter dated June 23d, 1827, Dr. Richards says, "Your review of Mr. Finney's sermon, has gone to the very core of the business, and will surely be effective in dissipating Much of the illusion which is connected with these mournful innovations. They call it severe, but I call it just, and as timely as it is just. I think you may greatly felicitate yourself, for having written just such a thing.
"But the worst is not told. The spirit of denunciation which has grown out of the mode of conducting the revivals at the West, is truly alarming. We do not call in question the genuineness of those revivals, or the purity of the motives of those who have been the most active in them. You, doubtless, are reaping and rejoicing in their happy fruits. But the evils to which I allude, are felt by the churches abroad.

The Sallie House In this special Halloween live episode, we traveled to Atchison, Kansas to explore one of America's most infamous haunted houses—the Sallie House. We dive into the dark backstory dating back to 1905, when a desperate mother allegedly brought her six-year-old daughter to Dr. Charles Finney's home for emergency surgery. According to local lore, the doctor began operating on the girl's appendix before the anesthesia took effect, and she died on his operating table from blood loss. While we acknowledge there's no concrete historical evidence this event actually occurred, we explore why this story has persisted and discuss other tragic deaths that took place in and around the property, including a disturbing incident involving the woman next door and her young son. The episode takes a personal turn as we share our own experiences from investigating the house for two hours the day before this live recording. We discuss what happened when our group used the Estes Method and spirit box equipment during our investigation, including multiple people hearing the same disturbing growl, our skeptical friend Parker getting mysteriously scratched, and the eerie responses we received when asking questions about what lurks in the attic and basement. We detail the intense haunting experiences of Tony and Debra Pickman, who lived in the house during the 1990s and endured everything from toys rearranging themselves to violent scratches appearing on Tony's body—even during filmed investigations.
“When the wickedness of the wicked grieves and humbles…Christians…you may expect a revival.” —Charles Finney
What are the differences between a healthy masculinity and macho masculinity—big differences. In better days, the Boy Scouts, Goodwill Industries, the Salvation Army, and some other Christian charities were, indeed, thoroughly Christian. I brought out the importance of Law Enforcement, a strong military, and the Second Amendment, and the necessity of men and women on the force and in the military being men and women of character and virtue.
Darrell Harrison delivers a penetrating exposition on the Hypocrisy of the Heart, examining Jeremiah 17:9's declaration that "the heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick." This profound message confronts the reality of indwelling sin that remains even in regenerate believers, dismantles the false doctrine of sinless perfection popularized by Charles Finney, and exposes the frailty of our unredeemed flesh.Harrison challenges the contemporary evangelical assumption that salvation renders believers incapable of sin, instead demonstrating through Scripture and Puritan wisdom that progressive sanctification—not sinless perfection—marks authentic Christian life. This message reveals how our deceitful hearts pursue truce with sin rather than relying on the Holy Spirit's transforming power. ★ Support this podcast ★

In this episode, I begin a short series based on the book by Thomas Nettles, In the Midst of the Years: A History of Reformation and Revival in America. There is much confusion in the modern age related to what revival is and how we can discern when a movement is of God is truly of God. In this book, Nettles travels through the history of reformation and revival in America — he covers people like Jonathan Edwards, Charles Finney, Dwight Moody, and Billy Sunday. He also analyzes events like the First and Second Great Awakening, the Civil War Revivials, and the 1858 Prayer revival. In this short series, I will be discussing four of these people/events in American church history.Today, I will start in the 1700s with Jonathan Edwards. Edwards gives five criteria for analyzing and judging a revival. These criteria are still valid and extremely helpful for today. My hope is that through this series, you can more truthfully judge whether or not something is a movement of the Spirit of God or a movement of the whims of men. I hope you enjoy! Have you left your sin and allowed Jesus to make you into a new creature? Listen as Pastor Ray walks us through the conversion of Charles Finney.
The sermon traces the decline of American Christianity, arguing it began in the early 1800s with the rise of Arminianism and its emphasis on man-centered salvation over God's sovereignty, leading to practices like emotional revivalism and the altar call. This shift, influenced by figures like Charles Finney and later exacerbated by secular philosophies and government-controlled education, fostered a dualistic worldview separating the sacred and secular and ultimately resulted in a diminished understanding of Christ's dominion over all of life. The speaker advocates for a return to reformed theology, rejecting these trends and embracing a holistic vision of Christ's kingdom advancing in all areas of society.

A Critique of Practicing the Way, Part 12 - Understanding Human Inability, presented by Bob DeWaay and Barb Gretch. We address Comer's claims that the problems the world is facing today could be solved if Christians would become apprentices of Jesus and compare it to Charles Finney's Pelagian moral government theory. Both lack an understanding of human inability. (duration 00:22:57) Click here to play
Something strange happened in Upstate New York during the 1830s. This area was called the "Burned-Over District" because so many fiery religious revivals swept through that it was metaphorically burned over. This region became a key source of the Second Great Awakening, a Protestant revival movement marked by emotional preaching and mass conversions, as preachers like Charles Finney inspired thousands to seek personal salvation and social reform. The revival spirit also birthed new movements: Mormonism emerged with Joseph Smith's founding of the Latter Day Saint movement in 1830, the Jehovah’s Witnesses trace their roots to the Bible Student movement that gained traction later in the century, and Spiritualism took hold in the 1840s with the Fox sisters’ claims of communicating with spirits in Hydesville, New York. This episode, however, isn’t just about the Burned-Over District. It’s about how these revivalists tapped into a distinctly American form of power, one not built on title or lineage, but on pure, raw charisma. From Puritan prophets and prophetesses in the 1600s to big-tent revivalists in the 1800s, and even to modern self-help gurus like Tony Robbins and Oprah Winfrey, charisma has shaped influence across time. It empowers figures like presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama to amass followings, sustain authority, and shape the national narrative through sheer personal appeal. Josh kicks things off by noting that listeners had asked for this topic, and he's eager to unpack it. They trace the major revival movements in American history, starting with the First Great Awakening around 300 years ago, led by Jonathan Edwards. They walk through the Second Great Awakening with Charles Finney and his intercessor Nash, and the revivals led by D.L. Moody and Billy Graham, all of which were marked by repentance and spiritual renewal. They land on the 1970s Jesus Revolution, which they say might be the last nationwide revival—exactly 50 years ago. Josh and Jason suggest this 50-year pattern may signal another wave is coming. While not predicting anything specific, they urge listeners to stay spiritually alert and ready. They share powerful stories, like two elderly sisters who prayed revival into their community during the Hebrides Revival—where even ships passing by felt the weight of God's presence. Jason emphasizes the need to be structurally and spiritually prepared for revival, drawing from Jesus' teaching about counting the cost before building. Both hosts agree: revival won't come without prayer, repentance, fasting, and a willingness to sacrifice. They also stress that revival must lead to disciple-making—not just emotional experiences, but long-term transformation. True revival, they argue, involves everyone, not just a few leaders. The episode ends with a challenge: join the growing movement of prayer and fasting through Discipleship.org and prepare your heart and community for what God might do next.

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 22nd of April, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Luke 3 and I am not going to read that chapter. I would like you to read it, but that whole chapter is the family tree of our Lord Jesus Christ, starting from verse 23 - Luke 3:23. “Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi,…”Do you know that that family tree goes all the way back? You will see in verse 38: “… the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.” That is the family tree of our beloved Lord Jesus Christ. If you go to the Book of John 15:5, the Lord says Himself: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit…” I am talking today about the family tree. Maybe you are sitting there and you are saying, “Angus, I am an orphan. I don't have any family. Maybe your family has rejected you, maybe your family has died and you feel that you have got nothing. I want to tell you that if you are a born-again Christian, you are not an orphan. You are a son or a daughter of the Living God. Family trees are important to people. I think I have told you before, my family comes from Scotland. My mother's mother was a Livingstone. Have you ever heard of David Livingstone? Of course you have. Well, she came from the West Coast of Scotland and that's where David Livingstone comes from. I would like to believe that I am related to that man who was partly responsible for abolishing the slave trade in Africa. My dad's mother was a Finney, her maiden name was Finney. Have you heard of Charles Finney, the great American revivalist who won many, many souls to Christ? That is my family. I don't know whether it is direct or not, it doesn't matter, but ultimately and more importantly, I am a child of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, my sins have been forgiven, I have got a family tree, a future that I can look forward to. What about you? Let's pray together.Dear Lord Jesus,Today, I am sorry that I think I am an orphan. I am not an orphan, I am a son of the Living God, I am a daughter of the Living God. That is my inheritance and when I get home, you are not going to say to me, “Welcome friend”, You are going to say, “Welcome home, son or daughter of the Living God.” That is something to look forward to.God bless you and goodbye.

They break down the biblical foundation, historical examples, and practical ways to incorporate these practices into daily life and ministry. The conversation kicks off with lighthearted banter before shifting to the episode's core theme: cultivating a culture of radical prayer and fasting. Josh emphasizes that some of the most impactful church movements rely on these disciplines, citing historical revivals that began with a few dedicated people seeking God through prayer and fasting. Referencing Matthew 6, the hosts discuss how Jesus taught about fasting—not for public recognition, but as a way to deepen one's connection with God. Jason points out a common misunderstanding: fasting isn't just about giving up food—it's about creating space for God to work. He shares how his church's 21-day prayer and fasting tradition before Easter fosters spiritual renewal. Josh and Jason offer practical tips for getting started, urging listeners to begin with small steps—like skipping one meal a week to focus on prayer. They highlight the story of Charles Finney and Pastor Nash, who fasted and prayed before Finney's revivals, underscoring how essential these practices were to their ministry's success. The hosts also touch on the scientific benefits of fasting, such as increased mental clarity and discipline. They introduce tools like Dick Eastman's "prayer wheel" to help structure prayer time and emphasize the importance of silence in prayer—something Jason admits was a struggle for him initially. As the episode wraps up, Josh challenges listeners to take action—whether by fasting a meal a week, dedicating focused prayer time, or involving their community in these spiritual disciplines. They encourage listeners to share their experiences and reach out for support, reinforcing the idea that prayer and fasting aren't just personal practices but catalysts for transformation in families, churches, and beyond.
Send me a Text Message! In this episode and the next few, we are going to dive into fasting. Fasting opens up time, makes space in our lives for something that matters more than what we are giving up. But I think fasting also somehow softens our hearts. That's what Joel 2 is all about. It's a reminder that some things are worth crying for. I believe that the next move of God is going to be a movement of tears. Charles Finney in his book, "Lectures on Revival" said, “When the sinfulness of sinners grieves, humbles and distresses Christians expect revival... Sometimes their behavior drives Christians to prayer, breaking them down, making them mourn with tender hearts. They weep night and day. Instead of scolding and reproaching they pray. Then you can expect revival. And that causes me to pray, "God would you give us the gift of tears?"
(1 Corinthians 6:19) How strange it would be for someone to live in your house and to never communicate with that person. The Holy Spirit lives in the heart of every believer. Is He at home in us? We must learn what it means to be filled with the Spirit. (0946250220) ----more---- The Holy Spirit in Your Life Do you ever talk to the person that lives in your house? On the day you trusted the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ Himself, came to live in your house. That's right, in your temple, in your heart. Your heart is His home now. Do you ever talk to Him? Does He have liberty to? To go and roam into every room and control every part. Is he at home in your house? It would be a strange thing if you married someone and lived with them for 40 years and never spoke to them. That perhaps happens at times and that's an awful thing. But how awful it is to think that some people meet the Lord, and the Holy Spirit of God comes to live inside of them on the day of their salvation, and they live the rest of their life never talking to that Person and never letting that Person talk to them! The Mystery and Reality of the Holy Spirit Now granted, there is a great mystery to the Holy Spirit. In fact, Jesus said in John chapter 3 verse number 8, "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whether it goeth. So is everyone that is born of the Spirit." The Holy Spirit is often likened to wind or breath in Scripture. And there is a mystery to the wind. You can't explain all of that, but as surely as there's a mystery, friend, there's also a reality. And there is a real person living inside of you at this moment. His name is the Holy Spirit. Understanding the Person of the Holy Spirit Perhaps the least understood and most misunderstood person of the Godhead is the Holy Spirit. He's not a thing. He's not merely a power or influence, he's a real person, he's just as real as the Father and the Son. Matthew 28:19 says, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." He is just as real as the Father and the Son, and He's just as real as any person here on earth. Acts 15:28 says, "It seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things." The apostles were saying, "Look, the Holy Spirit is speaking just like we're speaking. The Holy Spirit is working just like we are working." I wonder, do you know the Person that lives in your house? All through scripture, we're introduced to his personality. We learn something about his actions. The Holy Spirit's Actions and Reactions He speaks. Acts 13, verse 2, He literally spoke. He spoke to the apostles. He prompted them. In Romans 8:26, He prays. He intercedes for us. In John 15:26, He testifies. He's the Spirit of truth. He testifies of Christ. He commanded in Acts 16. He oversees. In Acts chapter 20, in verse number 28, He guides. Jesus said in John 16:13, "Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth." He teaches. John 14:26, He's the great teacher. I'm telling you, He's a Person. He not only acts, he reacts. Ephesians 4:30 tells us He can be grieved. Isaiah 63:10 tells us He can be vexed. They tempted the Holy Spirit in Acts 5, verse 9. They resisted the Holy Spirit in Acts 7:51. Mark 3 warns us against blaspheming the Holy Spirit. He's a real person. He has an intellect. He has emotions. He has a will. When you refer to the Holy Spirit, don't refer to him as an it. Refer to Him as a real Person because that's exactly what He is. The Divine Nature of the Holy Spirit And He's not only a real person, He is God. He is all God, just like the Father and the Son. We see the attributes of the Holy Spirit all through Scripture, identical to those of the Father and the Son. He is omnipotent, and omniscient, and omnipresent. He is eternal. He's the Spirit of love, and of holiness, and goodness, and grace, and life, and truth. And when you look at His works tell you He's God. Remember, He was there in the creation in Genesis 1. He was the Spirit of resurrection power in Romans 8 verse 11. He is the spirit of regeneration in all of us. Friend, if you're saved today, it's because the Holy Spirit convicted you that you were a sinner, revealed to you the person of Jesus Christ, and made you a new person in Christ. You are born again, John chapter 3, of the Spirit, 1 Corinthians 6 verse 11 says, "Ye are washed, ye are sanctified, ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." I'm telling you, when you study the Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, anywhere you want to study, you're going to find that the Holy Spirit is a real Person, He is all God, and He is at work at this present hour. And if that is true, I ask you again, How well do you know the person that lives in your house? How much have you come to understand of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of you? And when was the last time you talked to Him? The Holy Spirit's Work in Believers His work is a work in our lives. It's a deeply personal work. Now, He has a work in this world. John chapter 16 says He reproves the world of sin, of righteousness. There's no doubt the Holy Spirit is at work in the lives of unregenerate men. Lost people trying to bring them to God. And when we give the gospel, when we preach the truth, the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Truth, works in them. Don't miss this. The great work of the Holy Spirit of God is not just in the world, it's in the believer. It's in us. He started working in you on the day you got saved. He regenerated you. He comes to indwell you. 1 Corinthians 6, 19 says, What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? Romans 8, verse 9 says, "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. If so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now, if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he's none of his." I'm not trying to get the Holy Spirit. I was given the Holy Spirit on the day the Lord Jesus saved me. He doesn't rent, He buys. And He doesn't move in and out, He moves in to stay. And when He comes in to change me. To make me more like the Lord Jesus Christ. He baptizes me. I'm baptized in the Spirit. That happens at the moment of salvation. He seals me with the Spirit. He sets me free. He gives me assurance. He strengthens me in my inner man. He teaches me truth. He guides me. He empowers me. He enables my worship. He prays for me and teaches me how to pray. He shows me how to serve the Lord. He produces the character of Christ in me. Galatians 5 verse 22 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law." That's the Holy Spirit that produces the character of Christ in us. It's the Holy Spirit, 1 Corinthians 12 says, that distributes spiritual gifts to believers. The Holy Spirit's desire and design is to fill our lives, not just to be there, but to control everything. Living a Spirit-Filled Life So my first question is, does the Holy Spirit of God live in you? If He doesn't, you need to trust Jesus as your Savior. You need to call on the Lord and be saved, and at the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit will come to live in your house, in your heart. And if you say, oh yes, the Holy Spirit lives in me, oh yes, I'm a Christian, then my next question is this, "Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?" Charles Finney said, "He who neglects to obey the command to be filled with the Spirit is as guilty of breaking the command of God as he who steals or curses or commits adultery. His guilt is as great as the authority of God is great who commands us to be filled. His guilt is equivalent to all the good he might do if he were filled with the Holy Spirit." My prayer for you today is that you'll yield your life to the control of the one who already lives inside of you. He wants to rule on the throne of your life. He doesn't just want to be the resident, he wants to be the president. He doesn't just want to be there, he wants to control everything. And my prayer for you today is that the Holy Spirit of God, the Spirit of Truth, will be allowed to have His way in your life. How to Respond to the Holy Spirit Would you take just a moment at the conclusion of this study and just talk to the Holy Spirit? And say to Him, I love you, thank you for living in my house. Have the key to every room and take control of my life today. Repeating what other people have said about the Bible is not enough. We must know the biblical reason behind what we believe. Outro and Resources We hope you will visit us at etj.bible to access our library of Bible teaching resources, including book-by-book studies of Scripture. I greet you in Jesus' precious Name. It is Tuesday morning, the 31st of December, 2024. It is the last day of this year - for some of us, we're saying, "Wow, we made it," Others are saying, "Man, it's been tough!" But I want to speak to you about something very special today if we go to John 11:35 - two words: "Jesus wept."Jesus cried - I want to say today that we must feel free to cry. Some of you listening to this have lost a loved one in 2024. You are going into 2025 very shortly without that person. Others are facing unemployment; maybe your business is going bankrupt, yes, and I encourage you to feel free to cry tears. Graham Lacey, a man I respect a lot, said: "Tears are words that the heart cannot say." Isn't that beautiful? When a person is struggling, put your arm around them and weep with them. That will minister to them more than a big sermon, I can tell you right now. "Tears are the silent language of grief." - Voltaire. I've been through some tough times myself, and the people who have ministered to me the most when I've been in the deepest depths of despair are those who sit and look at me with tears running down their faces. They don't have to say anything more. "Tears can be trusted more than a smile." You know, you can smile and people say: "How are you?" "No, I'm fine, thank you..." But you're not okay. When the tears flow, then you make your feelings evident. "Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning."Psalm 30:5Share tears with other people. Lastly, Graham was saying that God harvests our tears; he keeps them in a bottle. As you face the new year, I encourage you to be honest with yourself and others. I also want to remind you there will be no tears in Heaven, none at all. The Lord will wipe away every tear we've ever cried (Revelation 21:4). Remember the founder of the Salvation Army, General William Booth when his soldiers wrote back to him and said, "We're having no joy." He sent back a letter with two words on it: Try tears. That great evangelist, Charles Finney, said that where there are no tears and no amens, there will be no revival. Peter went out and wept bitterly, as the Bible says in Luke 22:62 after he betrayed his Master no less than three times. Yes, we all make mistakes. We've made plenty in 2024. Let's attempt not to do so in 2025. Let's shed a tear instead of making a noise. Let us rather put our arms around those suffering and learn to weep with them sincerely.God bless you, and have a wonderful day.Goodbye.
