Where we chat with artists about anything and everything, most of which we probably forgot to mention during the podcast, so this is all bonus content just for you! We start asking the biggest question the world should ask, what is your donut of choice? Please let us know! Also… How to tell time and truly enjoy the moments. In this new world where time is constantly monitored, we should be able to take time out of our busy life to go outside and enjoy the sun. Especially with art, we shouldn't have to worry about having to post, or record, or do social media while painting, NO, you should just focus on your art and not worry of how much time it takes. Thank you for listening to the LA Artist Podcast, where we chat with local artists about their works, style, what influenced them to start their artist journey and more. The colorful textures of Ashley's paintings are one of the biggest staples of her art and have taken 2D work into 3D! Having an intuitive approach to painting and striving to let go and let the painting be perfectly imperfect. With a background in classical music, she uses music to mesh with her style and she has leaned into City Pop and more instrumental Vapor Wave to help focus and unfocus the mind to get into the groove of painting in a colorful style. We talk about C-PTSD and how Ashley has been able to find help, find a balance and find comfort in her art to be able to show that you can still thrive as an artist who is dealing with mental health. She gave great advice from her own experience and it was a deep and meaningful conversation we had. Quote of the Ep(43:45): “Get out there, show yourself. Tell people you are making art now, let them know what you are doing!” You can Follow ASHLEY WRIGHT on these platforms: https://www.instagram.com/artbyashleywright/ https://linktr.ee/artbyashleywright https://www.ashleywrightart.com/ Ashley's Artist to Follow: https://www.instagram.com/mirandamorehouse_art/ Follow the Podcast at: https://www.instagram.com/laartistpodcast/ https://laartistpodcast.com Exclusive Bonus Content at: https://losruanogallery.com/laap-behind-the-scenes
In this episode, I chat with mental health advocate and visual artist Ashley Wright. Based in Southern California, Ashley describes herself as a mental health artist, focusing on the healing power and therapeutic quality of the creative process. Ashley openly shares her journey with CPTSD and shares valuable advice for artists who face similar struggles. Join us for a raw, personal, and deeply impactful discussion surrounding the relationship between art and mental health. Here's what we discuss:1. The importance of being gentle with yourself if you have a mental health condition and why it's essential to let go of guilt or shame if you need to pause on making your art.2. Why Ashley centers her work on perception and reality in relation to derealization, dissociation, and maladaptive daydreaming.3. What inspired Ashley to focus on landscape in her work, and why she believes it's important to create your own rules.4. The reasons why we believe it's imperative to enjoy the creative process and return to that child-like place of creating work with wonder, joy, and love (without worrying so much about the end result!)About Ashley:Ashley's passion for the arts has been present ever since her childhood and has expanded across multiple mediums. It started with drawing and then quickly expanded into choir, band, orchestra, and theater. It wasn't until her senior year of her BA in Music at the University of Redlands where Ashley took a painting class for the first time and she hasn't stopped painting since then.Being tucked away in the Inland Empire, Ashley is surrounded by the beautiful San Bernardino National Forest, Joshua Tree National Park, Santa Rosa Wilderness, and the Angeles National Forest. These natural landscapes have played a huge part in her life and continue to inspire her art. Much of the imagery Ashley's paintings are directly inspired by her surroundings, the 80s and 90s nostalgia, sci-fi, and pop culture.Ashley's mental health is an important part of her life and directly impacts and represents her art. She has struggled with CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). CPTSD comes with Dissociation, Derealization, and Maladaptive Daydreaming. These coping mechanisms helped saved Ashley's life but living with them can feel like you constantly have one foot in reality and one foot out. These concepts influence Ashley's art through variance in vibrancy, perception, style, and texture. Ashley is an energetic and ambitious Girlboss who quit the corporate 9-5 world to pursue her love of Crypto, travel, and empowering others. She's on a mission to help others create generational wealth through Crypto. With over 8 years of experience in Business and Direct Sales, she has built a global brand with The Crypto Strategy Academy. She is Leading the industry as one of the top Crypto Educators in Canada and is the co-founder of Crypto Babes, a community for women learning, working and building in Web3, which has over 22,000 members. Ashley is also the author of "The Crypto Strategy Workbook" and "Crypto Workbook for Youth". She has spoken at countless conferences around the world and works to highlight under represented communities. Ashley's Resources: https://thewrightsuccess.com/ Key takeaways: Care less about what other people think - Ashley got into the tech space regardless of what other people thought. In 2016 she was in school learning about HR and marketing. She only heard about bitcoin through her parents and began doing some research. She started by investing $300, which turned into $900 within three months. She got really excited about it, and joined the space regardless of the fact there were not many women, much less women of color. But she had motivation and determination and took no interest in what other people thought. Be comfortable with uncomfortable situations - Ashley pushed herself into uncomfortable positions purposefully. She went from a place where she was completely unaware of tech, into a tech space. It had an extremely different dynamic than what she was used to. The one thing that drove her was motivation, and her understanding of the timing. Despite being alone in the tech space, she understood that they were in the beginning stages in the adoption of the technology. She put herself in a position where she was ready to learn a lot and take advantage of the situation she was in. Keep up with trends - one of the obstacles of being an entrepreneur are the moments when you ask yourself what it is exactly that you are doing. You see a lot of successes which slowly start to die off with time. You need to find a way to pivot and find new strategies that work and build consistency. There are moments where you come up with something but soon after peop;e quickly move onto another thing. You need to constantly be pivoting and staying up to date with the trends. Ashley tries to remain unique and let people know that she has been around for a long time and has a lot of knowledge in the field, while also planning revamping. Some obstacles might actually be advantages - Ashley is a woman, and a woman of color. There are not a lot of people like that in the tech space. Rather than thinking of it as an obstacle, she uses it as an advantage. Since she is the only one doing what she does, she uses it as a tool to attract people and convince people like her that it is possible and doable. Change your perspectives - In order to succeed in starting your own business, you need to change your perspectives on how you understand money, and how you understand failure. Failure is mandatory in order for you to be successful. Failure allows you to understand what you need to do to achieve success. You need to understand what does not work in order to understand what does. Environment and support are equally important. You need to have supportive people around you to aid you in staying on your feet though the journey. Is it Service Advisor or Service Writer? Either way, it's one of the most critical roles in the shop because if the sales aren't there, the techs don't have hours to turn, and the owner sees no profit. In addition to sales, the Service Advisors or Writers ;) Must be great at multitasking, customer service, logistics, and sometimes even counseling! Great advisors can do these things, create incredible customer experiences all while keeping a smile on their faces, and even have some fun while doing it. I believe those successful in this role aren't just born that way. They bring their natural skills and are fostered by great training and the guidance of a great owner. Today, one of the most successful writers I've met is our guest. Her name is Ashley Wright. I won't mention her shop because some of you may get the idea of trying to hire her. Sorry, she is very happily employed. If you're an owner, you'll learn some inside tips to help your advisors, and if you're an advisor listening, you'll learn some powerful tips and tricks to become a happy and successful advisor too.
