Well, strap in, team. Because this one’s an epic! Tammy van Wisse is not your average swimmer... unless your average swimmer has clocked over 65,000km in the water, swum the Bass Strait (yep, the ONLY human ever to do it), broken records in honour of childhood heroes, and oh yeah… has a day named after her in New Jersey. No biggie. But this chat wasn’t just about world records and wild ocean swims. We dove deep into the heart of endurance and what drives someone to keep going when every cell in their body is screaming to stop. Tammy opened up about being the kid no one picked in PE, to becoming a force of nature in open water. She talked about her mindset, her grit, and what happened when life threw her a challenge she didn’t choose (breast cancer). From the Bass Strait to the chemo chair, from saltwater stings to the quiet moments that crack you open… this episode is about resilience in its rawest form. One stroke, one moment, one shift at a time! A new documentary film about the UFO/UAP mystery debuted this month, with testimony from nearly three dozen scientists and government officials about the need for transparency and honesty. But in spite of the overwhelming and unified message expressed in the film, major media outlets continue to insult, muddle, or ignore the topic, as well as insult the insiders who take it seriously. In this episode of Weaponized, George and Jeremy mention the premiere of "The Age of Disclosure" film in the context of hostile or incomplete media reports, in particular, a scathing Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal which slimed a key witness and whistleblower as a "mental patient," as well as a high-profile report by 60 Minutes which examined a five-year wave of "mystery drone" incursions. While laudable for taking on the drone mystery, 60 Minutes ignored, downplayed, and mischaracterized key evidence, testimony, and images from the most dramatic drone incidents, including the 2019 UAP swarms that buzzed the USS Omaha, USS Russell, and eight other Navy ships. The inference that those drones were launched from a cargo ship named Bass Strait is scurrilous and inaccurate. For decades, media organizations have ignored, ridiculed, attacked, or undermined the sanity and integrity of witnesses, whistleblowers, and legitimate inquiries, including the former UAP Task Force, which has had the effect of stifling and intimidating others from coming forward. We enter the second half of our Year In Beer 2024 series by heading across the Bass Strait to find out what's been happening in Tasmania.Unlike much of the country, the beer industry in the southern state has survived the year relatively unscathed. And just like much of the country, it's also seen the renewed interest in lager styles we've been writing about for a while now continue to grow.Joining hosts James and Will first is Matt Fielding, one half of the Science Made Beerable team; we had hoped to chat to the not-for-profit's co-founder Kelsey Picard too, but Kelsey was back home in New Zealand leaving Matt to hold the fort, which he did with aplomb. With Matt based in Hobart, we took a trip north to catch up with our second guest, Scott Seymour. We first crossed paths with Scott in Bendigo when he was one of the early driving forces behind Bendigo Beer's efforts to encourage the regional city to embrace craft beer. He's since moved to Tassie after falling in love with the island on a family holiday, going on to open a trio of beer businesses in the north of the state: Penguin Beer Co, Island State Brewing, and The Pier.As well as filling us in on how 2024 has been for them and their hopes and plans for 2025, they reflect on the beer scene across the state, suggesting some top beer spots for visitors to the state, highlighting a couple of newcomers to the scene, heaping praise upon Spotty Dog Brewers and their enviable location, and doffing a cap to 20 years of Two Metre Tall.Start of guest segments: 1:34 – Matt Fielding 13:05 – Scott Seymour The Crafty Pint's 2024 Year In Beer series is proudly presented by Mogwai Labs, leaders in liquid yeast solutions. Australians turn off gas amid price hikes and supply gaps

There may soon not be enough gas to meet demand in the Australian state of Victoria, and this could happen as soon as next year according to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). This is pushing more and more Victorians to switch off their gas, especially as their energy bills are getting steeper. “It's just the savings. Like obviously, environmental impact is important, and the health implications. But I reckon it's probably just halved our bills,” explains Sarah Anderson, homeowner and former gas customer. In a survey from last year, it was found that 90 percent of Victorians rely on gas for their household appliances with cooktops, hot water systems, heaters, and ovens coming first in terms of usage. All of the survey participants said they could consider using electricity for one of these appliances, but only half of them said they would be willing to switch off their gas consumption completely. Moving away from gas will help Victorians reach their sustainability targets but it may also become necessary. The Australian Energy Market Operator says there could be gas shortfalls from 2028 and shortages in winter as soon as next year as Bass Strait supplies dwindle. "The real problem here is that not enough is being found to meet our ongoing demands. That is why it's really critical that we take the actions that we are (taking) because we know that gas is a finite resource," says Victoria's Energy Minister Lily D'Ambrosio. The Victorian government is pushing citizens to get off gas by banning it in new homes and offering discounts to households that decide to replace gas appliances with electric ones. But that could come at too high a cost for some households and not everyone is on board with the idea. "The Victorian government has an ideological approach to energy and an ideological approach to gas. We say that gas is part of the future and our big gas distribution system should be regarded as an opportunity by the government, not something to be pulled out and stripped away," says Victoria's Shadow Energy Minister David Davis. At the time of his final flight, Frederick was an ambitious, healthy, hardworking, and optimistic young person. On the evening of Saturday October 21st, 1978, at 6:15 Fred Valentich left Moorabbin airport and headed west, crossing Port Philip Bay on the way to King Island. Fred's flight started without incident.  After about 6 minutes over the open water, just after 7pm, Fred called Steve on the radio and asked if there was “any known traffic below 5000 feet?” The reply was “no known traffic.” Fred confirmed that he was in an altitude of 4500 feet and crossing Bass Strait. Only 7 seconds after confirming he could not identify the “thing” Fred reported, “Melbourne, Delta Sierra Juliet, it is not an aircraft…it is…” Almost immediately after stating his intentions Fred radioed, “Ah, Melbourne, that's strange aircraft is hovering on top of me again, it is hovering, and it's not an aircraft!” Steve, with all his experience, now had to try to help a junior pilot try to navigate through engine trouble over a body of water while avoiding an unknown aircraft as the sun is setting. I don't envy him. Before Steve had time to process all the data points and provide guidance, Fred radioed and said, “Delta Sierra Juliet, Melbourne…” but then stop talking mid-sentence. But a few years back he made the switch to exploring the world closer to home and now inspires a league of fans who froth over his mad-as videos of running the length of the old Warragul-Noojee Railway line to learn its history (dressed in a train driver uniform, carrying a shovel and three jars of dried pasta, just to chuck a hardship bomb into the equation), eating his body weight in beans (to see what happens), and spending a night in the tree outside his front door. Foundations of Amateur Radio Have you ever made an international contact using amateur radio and used that towards tracking an award like for example the DXCC? If you're not familiar, it's an award for amateurs who make contact with at least 100 "distinct geographic and political entities". In 1935 the American Radio Relay League, or ARRL published an article by Clinton B. DeSoto, W1CBD, titled: "How to Count Countries Worked: A New DX Scoring System". In the article he asks: "Are Tasmania and Australia separate countries?" In case you're wondering, Tasmania has, at least in legal terms, been part of Australia since Federation in 1901. Not to be confused with New Zealand, a separate country over 4,000 kilometres to the east of Australia, Tasmania is the island at the south eastern tip of Australia. It was previously called the Colony of Tasmania, between 1856 and 1901 and before that it was called Van Diemen's Land between 1642 and 1856. Before then it was inhabited by the palawa people who lived there for about 42,000 years. They eventually became isolated after being cut off from the mainland by the Bass Strait when about 10,000 years ago sea levels rose due to the ice age coming to an end. In the last remaining local Aboriginal language 'palawa kani' it appears to have been called 'lutruwita' (/lu-tru-wee-ta/), but no living speakers of any of the original Tasmanian languages exist. As audio evidence, we have a few barely audible sounds spoken by Fanny Cochrane Smith on a wax record from 1899 on which she sang traditional songs. I'm mentioning this to illustrate that DeSoto asking the question: "Are Tasmania and Australia separate countries?" is, in my opinion, fundamentally misguided. More so because of an island, well, rock, Boundary Islet, that's split by a border, one half belonging to Victoria, the other half to Tasmania. Specifically, since 1825, the state of Victoria and the state of Tasmania share a land border thanks to a survey error made in 1801. If you're into Islands on the Air, or IOTA, it's part of the Hogan Island Group which for activation purposes is part of the Furneaux Group, which has IOTA designation OC-195. One point to make is that today the DXCC does not mention Tasmania, either as a separate entity, or as a deleted entity. It was removed from the DXCC in 1947. The DXCC list is pretty famous in amateur radio circles. It's not the only such list. I already mentioned the IOTA list which contains a list of islands and island groups and their IOTA designation. There's also a list of 40 groups of callsign prefixes called CQ zones, published in CQ magazine, and a list of IARU regions maintained by the International Amateur Radio Union. There's also an ITU zone list, maintained by the International Telecommunications Union. Each of these lists are essentially grouped collections with an attached label. The list of DXCC entities is copyrighted by the ARRL. If you want to use it for anything other than personal use you need to ask permission. In other words, if you write software that for example tracks amateur radio contacts and you make that software available for others to use, you officially need permission from the ARRL to use it to track a DXCC. If you're an amateur outside of the United States your peak body will need permission from the ARRL to issue any DXCC award. The ITU, the International Telecommunications Union is a United Nations specialised agency, part of our global community, owned by all humans. It peppers its content with copyright notices. The same is true for the International Amateur Radio Union, the IARU, the global representative body of all radio amateurs. It too peppers its content with copyright notices, even going so far as to add requirements that "(a)ny copy or portion must include a copyright notice" and that "(i)t is used for informational, non-commercial purposes only". Let me ask you a question. Can you achieve a DXCC without international cooperation? Of course not. If you are an American amateur and want to get an award for contacting 100 distinct geographic and political entities, you can only do so by making contacts outside the United States of America. As an Australian however, I have, according to the February 2022 version of the DXCC list, 340 countries to choose from, only one of which is the United States of America, and Alaska isn't part of the United States, apparently. It might appear that I'm singling out the ARRL, but that's not true. CQ Communications, Inc. owns the list of CQ Zones, the ITU owns the list of ITU zones, the IARU owns the list of IARU Regions, Islands On The Air Ltd. and the Radio Society of Great Britain own the IOTA list and Clinton B. DeSoto W1CBD became a silent key in 1949, his copyright expired in 1999. So, is grouping and labelling things sufficient to actually claim copyright? Can I claim copyright for all countries starting with the letter 'A' and calling it the 'Alpha Amateur Award'? My preliminary list for the 'Alpha Amateur Award' includes Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Antigua, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria and Azerbaijan and because it's not part of the United States, Alaska. Which reminds me, to encourage amateur radio activity in continents that need more, I'll add Africa and Antarctica. Consider that the 2023 edition of the triple A. A bigger question to ask is: "Why should I need permission to use any of these lists?" Can I create a public repository on GitHub that has all these lists in a single place, so others could use them without needing to hunt? What if I wanted to reformat and reuse these lists to create an online service to show the relationship between each of these lists for use by all radio amateurs? What if I wanted to charge a subscription fee to pay for the service? What if I wanted to roll out a whole company behind it and pay people to maintain it? I'm all for people creating things and receiving credit, but at some point we start to take away from the community instead of giving back to it. Are these lists really owned by the various organisations claiming copyright and requiring written permission for their use, or do they belong to all radio amateurs? Oh, the 'Alpha Amateur Award' list is copyleft. Look it up. I'm Onno VK6FLAB

We found one, in fact its the only one on the island and their we found our new friend and fellow aviator Robert Kennedy. Robert got the aviation bug from His Father who was a World War II Pilot. As a young boy he enjoyed flying RC aircraft but later he discovered sailplanes. Robert has been soaring for nearly 50 years. He Started his gliding training flying the K-13 then the Libelle. He said he also did lots of towing because tow pilots fly for free.  Robert has has enjoyed many differnt typs of aviation jobs throughout his life and spent 10 years of it as an Air Traffic controller, working in the morning allowed for flying time in the afternoon. He spent some of his time as a Civil Aviation inspector, ran a helicopter school and has flown everything from light sport aircraft, war birds, 737's and so much more. It was Oct. 21, 1978, and the sun was setting on the Australian horizon. At 6:19 p.m., a young pilot named Frederick Valentich took off in a rented Cessna 182L from Moorabbin Airport in Victoria. He was en route to King Island, a 130-mile journey over a body of water known as the Bass Strait. The Strait is famous for its difficult flying conditions, but on this night, the skies were clear and the winds calm. Valentich was eager to reach his destination, where his friends awaited, ready to dine on fresh seafood along the water's edge. Sadly, Valentich never made that dinner date, nor any thereafter. At 7:06 p.m., he called into Air Flight Service, citing an unidentified flying object maneuvering around him. Neither Valentich nor his aircraft were ever found.   EVERYTHING TRUE CRIME GUYS:   https://linktr.ee/Truecrimeguysproductions Patreon.com/truecrimeguys Merch: truecrimeguys.threadless.com     Sources: https://www.planeandpilotmag.com/news/pilot-talk/2020/11/23/mysteries-of-flight-alien-abduction-or-pilot-error/ https://youtu.be/exmsvn2G34U 4:30 audio https://youtu.be/O0KWMLb7vN0 https://youtu.be/xK44nFczul0 https://youtu.be/-Isy8ZfJf-Q https://youtu.be/vhH_64Rh7fc https://youtu.be/AIOTi-dLBJY https://www.snopes.com/articles/383824/frederick-valentich-ufo-disappearance/
