https://darienchiropractor.com › your-health-matters-to-uswww.darienchiropractor.comIn this episode of Core Health Darien's podcast, Dr. Brian McKay dives deep into the fascinating world of muscle spindle cells, Golgi tendon organs, and their critical role in modifying pain signals through afferent nerve pathways. These specialized sensory receptors are key players in the body's ability to regulate muscle tension, movement, and pain perception. Dr. McKay explains how the integration of Trigenics, a neurological treatment system, with chiropractic adjustments can amplify the body's natural ability to heal and function.By targeting muscle spindle cells and Golgi tendon organs, Trigenics leverages afferent nerve signaling to “reboot” how the brain communicates with the body. This approach not only reduces pain but also improves functional movement and restores control over areas affected by dysfunction. Dr. McKay explores the brain's pivotal role in pain modulation and how enhancing brain-body communication leads to more sustainable results for patients.Listeners will learn how patients at Core Health Darien benefit from combining Trigenics with chiropractic adjustments to achieve functional enhancements that go beyond pain relief—supporting improved mobility, strength, and long-term recovery. Whether you're a patient, a health professional, or simply curious about innovative pain management techniques, this podcast provides valuable insights into how cutting-edge treatments can unlock the body's potential to heal naturally.Tune in to discover how Core Health Darien is revolutionizing pain relief by bridging the gap between brain control, neurology, and functional health!Core Health Darien-Dr.Brian Mc Kay 551 Post RoadDarien CT 06820203-656-3636https://goo.gl/maps/js6hGWvcwHKBGCZ88https://www.youtube.com/my_videos?o=Uhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/darienchiropractorhttps://www.facebook.com/ChiropractorBrianMckayhttps://sites.google.com/view/corehealthdarien/https://www.google.com/maps?cid=9052981016823215070&hl=enhttps://youtu.be/CTa85YpYBiwhttps://darienchiropractor.com/spinal-decompression/https://maps.app.goo.gl/kbjVbvCn2cAqYZQn6This podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. https://darienchiropractor.com/natural-migraine-headache-treatment-chiropractic-care/At Core Health Darien, Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) offers an effective, non-invasive approach to treating headaches, including migraines and tension headaches. LLLT uses photobiomodulation, a process in which specific wavelengths of light penetrate the skin to target underlying tissues. This therapy promotes cellular repair, reduces inflammation, and enhances blood flow, addressing key factors that contribute to headaches.Dr. Brian McKay, with over 35 years of experience, applies LLLT to specific regions of the head, neck, and shoulders, often focusing on nerves like the supraorbital and supratrochlear nerves, which play a role in headache pain. The laser stimulates ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production in cells, providing them with the energy needed for repair and reducing hypersensitivity that may trigger headaches.Patients often report a noticeable decrease in headache frequency and severity after LLLT sessions. The therapy is particularly beneficial for those seeking drug-free relief, offering a safe alternative to medication, which can cause side effects or dependency. Additionally, LLLT has shown promise in improving related symptoms such as neck tension, brain fog, and disrupted sleep.Core Health Darien integrates LLLT with other treatments like chiropractic adjustments to address the root causes of headaches. By combining therapies, Dr. McKay creates individualized care plans that maximize outcomes. With a strong commitment to patient wellness, Core Health Darien continues to provide cutting-edge treatments like LLLT to help patients achieve long-lasting relief from chronic headaches.Core Health Darien-Dr.Brian Mc Kay 551 Post RoadDarien CT 06820203-656-3636https://youtu.be/CTa85YpYBiwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uluuLBxmVc41.0834123,-73.4664097https://maps.app.goo.gl/iDMfo9cEZJbZHKGP7Find us on Social Mediahttps://chiropractor-darien-dr-brian-mckay.business.site  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNHc0Hn85Iiet56oGUpX8rw  back pain project youtube sitehttps://goo.gl/maps/js6hGWvcwHKBGCZ88https://www.youtube.com/my_videos?o=Uhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/darienchiropractorThis podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. But if you pay close attention you may notice that you are not getting quality sleep when your neck hurts. I am going to tell you why in as simple a way I can think of.Nerves help the brain control your entire body. When a nerve is compressed it limits the functionality of nerve transmission to and from the brain. Chances are when your spinal bones are misaligned they can cause you to have pain. The displaced spinal bones also can cause you to lose sleep. The cervical bones in your neck want to be in the right place. When they are not it makes it difficult for you to get comfortable enough to obtain restful REM sleep. Now for the complicated explanation, I warned you about earlier. At the top of your neck lies that brain stem. The brain stem is a relay point for most of the nerves in your body. They go through the brain stem and then upwards to the various parts of the brain. There is a nerve bundle called the Reticular Activating System. It deals with your awake and sleep cycles. That is the extent of the complicated explanation. When spinal bones compress the Reticular Activating System it becomes harder for your body to drift off to restful sleep. What is the takeaway? A chiropractor can really help put the vertebra where they belong. Most of us rely on Advil to quell the pain. So if you reach for Advil the pain will subside but you still may have pressure on your nerves. Now restful sleep becomes more problematic as your body tends to heal when you sleep. My advice is don't ignore pain if your neck hurts and if you want to get better sleep. Again, this is where a chiropractor can really help. Now I know most MDs will tell you to stay away from chiropractors. They may understand medicine but they are lacking in the mechanics of your body and how they relate to nervous system function. It is all about structure and function. The body is a biomechanical wonder that needs attention you can not get from medicine alone. If you have neck pain and would like to sleep better call me. Chiropractic Care Role in Insurance Reimbursement for Breast Reduction SurgeryioinNobody must see a chiropractic physician for breast reduction. No chiropractic practitioner must never before do a breast exam- never, This is not in our scope of practice. A chiropractic doctor is educated to deal with bone and joint troubles that might develop from macromastia. , if you were questioning what macromastia is it implies breast hypertrophy. As chiropractic physicians, we might see an individual that presents with top pain in the back and also frustrations. Both migraines, as well as upper neck and back pain, can be triggered by breast hypertrophy. In most cases, chiropractic specialists can soothe migraines as well as upper back pain in the spine. The issue is that ladies with big breasts might just obtain recurring alleviation. Their discomfort ends up being possibly disfiguring as well as persistent, something no one desires.Serious skin excoriation/intertrigo less competent to clinical administrationMigraine- Severe limitation of exercises as a result of Functional Impairment-- Signs and also signs of nerve compression that are less competent to clinical administration-- Acquired kyphosis that is credited to Macromastia-- Chronic bust discomfort as a result of weight of the busts-- Upper back, neck, or shoulder discomfort- Shoulder grooving from bra bandsMy experience is that the person requires to be under chiropractic like fix the problem for concerning 6 months of conventional treatment. Appropriate note-taking is very important for the specialist to start her analysis of the individual. What is very important right here is for the chiropractic doctor to understand that his/her therapy might just be palliative in nature. This implies we might not have the ability to assist our people with chiropractic treatment just. If the client does not react, it is not a failing on our part.Often a chiropractor will be called upon to supply medical records to show that the patient exhausted all means and probably needs surgery to resolve the pain associated with hypermastia. Some insurance companies insist on a course of chiropractic care to see if the pain will go away to avoid paying for breast reduction surgery.Core Health Darien-Dr.Brian McKay

www.BackPainCt.com6 Weeks to a Better Back brought to you by The Back Pain ProjectWhat is the 6 weeks to a Better Back Program? The 6 Weeks to a Better Back Program was designed by Dr.Brian McKay to help people with serious low back pain to have a starting place to begin healing their own back with exercises. With the new year, people set unrealistic goals that are difficult to meet. If someone with a chronically bad lower back begins to exercise they often fail because the supporting skeletal system can not meet the demands placed upon the spine. The 6 Weeks to a Better back program takes into consideration that a fresh starting point will allow the body to acclimate to the increased demands being placed on the spine. We have seen people start to exercise vigorously in January and usually end up in more pain. We do not want to see that happen. By starting out with basic stretches the lower back pain sufferer can start to slowly awaken the body. This gives the back pain sufferer a better chance to succeed with gradually more challenging exercises in an organized gradient. If you truly want to help a bad back get better you have to start with a plan. The exercises and stretches are provided free of charge to encourage the development of healthy habits. A better foundation can be the start of a long continuous journey towards better health overall. Think of it as crawling before walking, and eventually, we want you running! Right now we are bombarded with gym memberships and diets. How often do our well-intentioned goals go to the wayside? Quickly, old poor habits return and we forget about that diet or exercise program we need. Studies have shown that it takes a sustained commitment to make lasting changes in our lives. The 6 Weeks to a Better Back Program was designed to help those who want it the proper start to radically change their lives. The 6 Weeks to a Better Back Program is only a starting point. Consider it a remedial class or a driver's Ed class before you get your driver's license. Once your structure has a good foundation you will have less chance of falling to the wayside. How many people do you know who have earnestly tried to get off to a good start only to fail in the short term? Do not think that this will cure you of your back pain. In that case, do not bother, stay on the couch with the remote in hand, wishing things would be different. There is no charge to get started just click the link provided, answer a few questions and the following Monday get started. You will not need any expensive equipment. Bring your desire to change the path you are on. If you choose to do nothing your back pain will only worsen. That same pain can rob you of the joys of life. I look forward to helping you get started on a life of being pain-free.  Why is standing better than sitting at a desk all day?Chiropractors see a wide range of spinal problems, and a lot of them have to do with poor posture and prolonged sitting or slouching. Too much lumbar pressure from constant sitting can lead to back pain. Also, extended sitting means your abdominal and hamstring muscles are contracted for hours at a time. This could lead to a weakened core and less flexibility, putting you at higher risk of potential injury and pain. But how do you combat these side effects of sitting when you have so much work to do?If you ask your chiropractor, they may tell you to take standing and stretching breaks throughout the day, because this allows your muscles to relax. Standing also burns more calories than sitting which in turn helps you combat weight gain. Plus, each time you stand you can actively correct your posture and remind yourself to avoid the temptation to slouch when you sit back down at your desk.Standing at work, whether it's getting out and going for a quick walk around the office or using a standing desk instead of a traditional one, can increase muscle movement and give your physical health a boost.Core Health Darien is located at 551 Post Road in Darien

Cupping for Back PainBy now you probably heard about cupping. It is the in-treatment these days for tennis elbow, shoulder pain, migraines, back pain etc. Athletes and movie stars walk around showing the red marks as proud as if they were showing off a new tattoo. The red marks are really petechial hemorrhaging, you may also know this as a hickey. The tiny blood vessels swell up and cause reddening of the skin. The redness is harmless but can look bad if you plan on attending a wedding and want to wear a backless gown and had your shoulder just treated. Other than a few stares at the redness, the process is very helpful in getting your over-worked low back pain muscles to function better. Let's explain how it works then we can get into the why it works. Your muscles rely on glycogen as a fuel source. Glycogen is the primary carbohydrate stored in the liver and muscle cells of animals, is broken down into glucose to provide immediate energy and to maintain blood glucose levels during fasting. When glycogen is broken down by glucagon into readily available glucose there is an end product ATP adenosine tri-phosphate but there are by-products that need to be removed. The garbage has to be taken out just like in your home. The cell membrane's permeability can be negatively impacted by using too much energy(glucose), creating a back up of waste needing to be removed. So what happens to waste when it backs up? In the cellular world, your muscles become dysfunctional. The waste takes up too much space. Now a muscle that is already working overtime has to work harder. Cupping for lower back pain uses reverse pressure to help draw waste products out of the cells of the muscle tissue. It may be a little uncomfortable at first then the discomfort subsides. Most people report a significant decrease in back pain as well as greater mobility immediately after treatment.Core Health Darien551 Post RoadDarien Ct 06820203-656-3636

I am sure you have noticed how uncomfortable the masks we all must wear are becoming. I get a little tired of smelling my own breath, making it worse at times I feel a little light-headed. Have you noticed that you are starting to get a few more headaches? These headaches usually do not respond to Advil or Aleve. They will respond nicely to fresh air. The headache is caused by a condition called hypoxia. When your blood does not carry enough oxygen to your tissues the body can not meet it's metabolic demands. Early signs of hypoxia include anxiety, confusion, and restlessness. If hypoxia is not corrected, hypotension will develop. Some studies suggest that hypoxia may provoke migraine headache and aura symptoms in some patients. Let's discuss the average low-grade type of headache that can occur while wearing a mask. Have you noticed it is a little harder to breathe when wearing a mask? You may actually be inhaling CO2. We breathe out mostly carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide produced is a waste product and needs to be removed. Yet here you may just be recycling the CO2 and this can cause headaches. The CO2 is brought back to the lungs and has to be reprocessed. This may be why it feels like you are working harder when wearing a mask. The lack of O2 is a pretty big cause of headaches. Please be aware that confusion is a telltale sign of hypoxia. Look out for restlessness, confusion, lack of coordination, shortness of breath are just a few signs you may not be getting adequate O2. Try and be aware of any changes like the ones mentioned. You will need to take breaks from wearing your mask. I don't see how anyone can argue the point of you needing O2. If you have asthma or COPD then you will need to be more vigilant with breaks from wearing your mask. If your headaches get worse when wearing a mask tell your employer that you need a break. Obviously take your break away from other people to help contain the spread of Covid-19.Core Health Darien- Dr.Brian McKay551 Post RoadDarien, CT 06820Dr. Brian McKay can be reached at 203-656-3636

Fat & Lazy Man's Way to Lose Weight- Intermittent Fasting

Yes, we all want to lose weight or at least 60% of us overweight Americans. Well, the easiest way is to lose weight is to stop eating. Sounds easy enough, so why are we not doing so? Let me bring up the wildly popular idea of intermittent fasting. There is no other way that I as a fat and lazy American can think of how to control weight. How do you get started? Pick 12 hours that you think you can live without eating. It is a lot easier then you think. My suggestion is to wrap it around when you sleep. If you sleep for 8 hours you only have to manage 4 hours without food at first. If you really have a hard time try green tea or coffee, go easy on the cream and no sugar! Try this for a few days to get the hang of it. Your body will try and convince you that it needs food. You are the boss just say no. You will get used to it. Do this for a week or two. Now lets extend the time frame by one hour for the next week. This means that you are going 13 hours without eating. Honestly, once you get the hang of it you will start to forget that you are hungry. The following week go to 14 hours. Here is the jumping-off point for women. Guys should try to go to 16 hours. The ladies can do nicely with 14 hours of fasting. Now you may have noticed that I have not suggested what you should or should not eat. The reason I did that is that you are making changes to your lifestyle that need to become permanent. Of course, try and eat healthy. I noticed that I would eat better coming off the fast. This is an easy way to get started. Pick your time and stick to it. You don't have to follow any strict guidelines at first, just don't eat. You may be surprised at how much eating you had been doing prior to starting intermittent fasting. So what happens when someone shoves a piece of birthday cake in front of you when you are fasting? Chalk it up as accident forgiveness. You don't have to be perfect, just get right back on schedule the next day. I will be doing more articles to explain the science behind intermittent fasting. Beware you will see rapid weight loss and you will need to drink a lot more water. So how hard is this? It is what you make of it. Here is what you can look forward to in the first few weeks, clothes that were tight are not as tight, you will start to sleep better too. Stay tuned for the next installment where I will explain more about what is happening in your body. Just be realistic about how much weight you will lose. Start by changing your current eating habits and getting used to a new way of eating. Eat what you want during the initial phasing in, no guilt, and don't bother counting calories for now.Dr.Brian McKayCore Health DarienCore Health Darien Dr.Brian McKay

Headaches. Haven't you Suffered Enough?I often wonder why people with chronic headaches continue to take medications that are not curing the headache. Are headaches something you have to learn to live with? I think that the headache sufferer would do better by stepping outside the "Big Pharma Mentality" and seek alternatives that may just help. There is no guarantee that any one alternative treatment is going to help the headache sufferer, the question here is what do you have to lose by trying something different? If your medications worked why do your headaches keep coming back? Any treatment that doesn't cure is called palliative. When your head is pounding, sure it makes sense to take something to relieve the pain. I wouldn't call this a cure its to stop the pain. What if there was a way to prevent the headache in the first place? I am here to tell you that many different headaches can be helped by a chiropractor. Yes, this may come across as self-serving. I am basing this in 30 years of treating all kinds of headaches, migraine, cluster, sinus, occipital to name a few. I started to use a laser to treat really tough migraine headaches. I use an intranasal laser to stimulate the sphenopalatine ganglion which is a group of nerve cells that is linked to the trigeminal nerve, the main nerve involved in migraine headaches. The SPG, located behind the nose, carries information about sensation, including pain, and also plays a role in autonomic functions, such as tearing and nasal congestion. Often I hear that I have a sinus headache, how would you know if it is going to work if you don't try it? What chiropractors look for are called subluxations. This is when a bone puts pressure onto nerves blocking the brain's ability to communicate, often a painful experience. A good chiropractic adjustment is safe, comfortable, and effective. Many headache cases we see have subluxations in the base of the skull at an area called the Atlanto-Occipital joint. If you are subluxated here there is increased pressure on the brain stem. Let me tell you, pressure on the brainstem can definitely cause headaches. Your neurologist is not trained to treat subluxations. Would you rather live with headaches or try something out of the pharmacological realm? You might be afraid to go to a chiropractor for headaches. Maybe you think they will get worse, I understand that. Find a chiropractor that you are comfortable with and address your concerns. It may not be for you. I urge you to give it a try, you might miss out on being free of headache misery. If you have any questions call me at 203-656-3636. I would be happy to answer any of your questions. If I don't think I can help you I can refer you to someone who I feel would be a good fit. If you are not okay living with debilitating headaches just do something to make your life better. How Does Knee Pain Occur? There are many things that can cause knee pain. Autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis would be the most common examples. Osteoarthritis is a very common reason for knee pain. As we age the knee produces less synovial fluid. This viscous fluid helps cushion the knee. Less cushioning means more wear and tear on the meniscus which causes knee pain. This, in turn, leads to more osteoarthritis also called the old age of the knees. Trauma from sports or accidents is another cause of knee pain. Often severe trauma requires surgical intervention. This would be more likely to be from tears to the anterior cruciate ligament and to a lesser extent to the posterior cruciate ligament. These ligaments attach the tibia to the femur. When you extend your leg (thnk of kicking a soccer ball) this motion is called extension. At the final point of extension, there is a locking motion that can irritate the meniscus if the forces are applied at the wrong location. This can be a big reason you have knee pain. Overweight people tend to have more knee pain. Losing weight will always help the knees feel better.Runners are at risk for knee pain from all the pounding the knees get from all those miles. People who climb ladders seem to have more knee pain. So the question is, who doesn't get knee pain? Not many people these days. How to get knee pain relief? Knee pain relief can be obtained initially by icing a sore knee and resting the leg at an incline.NSAIDs are often used to help pain and inflammation of the knee. Some people use knee braces for their knee pain. The brace is used during activity to help support the knee. There are knee injections using rooster cartilage or synthetic hyaluronic acid to replace lost synovial fluid. One can always turn to surgery to repair a torn or frayed meniscus. Knee pain from an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament can require surgery to repair. However, if it is minor you may escape surgery and allow it to heal on its own. This type of injury is usually related to trauma, in fact, it has ended the careers of many football players. The most serious type of knee pain relief would be from totally replacing the knee joint. Longer lasting knee pain would benefit from the Knee on Trac Solution. Core Health Darien-Dr.Brian McKay is the only facility in Fairfield County to offer this treatment for chronic knee pain.

The Knee on Trac Solution for Knee PainCore Health Darien Dr.Brian McKay has begun offering a superior treatment for chronic knee pain. What makes this treatment superior is that it works on several levels. The Knee on Trac device allows for gentle traction to help stimulate the production of synovial fluid. If you have knee pain, you may have heard about hyaluronic acid injections sometimes referred to as rooster cartilage, which is what it is. Your orthopedic will inject hyaluronic acid into the knee joint. This will hopefully add to the volume of synovial fluid. It does work temporarily for about 40% of the people who try it.The Knee on Trac Solution helps your body produce more of its own synovial fluid. The Matrix is a unique treatment that we offer as part of the Knee on Trac Solution. This therapeutic treatment helps stimulate chondrocytes in the meniscus of the knee. The meniscus is the cartilage type of disc that separates the tibia and the femur, as a cushion. Through years of wear and tear, it starts to break down contributing to your knee pain and osteoarthritis sets in. Core Health Darien is the only facility to offer this treatment in Fairfield County, CT.The remaining part of the in-office treatment is called Trigenics. These are special supervised exercises we perform on you each visit. We target those muscles that contribute to your knee pain. They are particularly effective in eliminating knee pain when combines with IASTM, [Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization.]So what remains is how do you benefit from The Knee on Trac Solution? First, we need to do an examination. We have had cases of people who had Total Knee Replacements fail come to us for relief and get it. I will caution you and tell you that we would only accept you as a patient after one-year post total knee replacement. Other people with torn or damaged meniscus seek us out when their physical therapy fails to yield relief from knee pain. Then we see good old knee osteoarthritis get tremendous relief. Now, does everyone get better? You know the answer. But you sure have a fighting chance of getting rid of your knee pain. Some insurances cover the Knee on Trac Solution, which has to be verified with your insurance company. I invite you to come to learn more about the treatment that may be the answer to your chronic knee pain.

Why Should You Care about IASTM? Let's define IASTM first. It stands for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation. If you have a back problem you will want to read more about IASTM. There are several variations of tissue manipulation. Oriental Medicine uses cupping in a similar way as IASTM. Another popular variation is known as Graston. For our purposes, these are all similar and achieve similar goals.A mechanical back problem usually has a soft tissue component. From my experience, these soft tissue components involve restricted tissue motion resulting in fibrous adhesions in the fascia. The fascia is the covering on the muscles that are nerve-rich. When there are repetitive forces placed on the muscles the fascia develops adhesions that act like scar tissue on a smaller scale. The adhesions cause increased pain due to the increased friction when fascia comes into contact with adjacent fascia. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation helps to break down the adhesions thereby reducing the pain caused by friction. It is a helpful treatment but only one tool in a full toolbox. The Back Pain Project uses several tools to achieve a pain-free back. The complete program culls from many healing modalities to bring about lasting relief from back pain. As far as we know The Back Pain Project is the most thorough program out there for treating bad backs. Dr.Brian McKay has been treating bad low backs for over 28 years. Over 20 years ago he was among the earliest adopters of non-surgical spinal decompression. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation is a valuable adjunct to spinal decompression when treating back pain. Hopefully, you agree that more treatment is more beneficial to eliminate back pain.

The typically prescribed neuropathy medications do not address blood flow. Neuropathy@CoreHealth addresses blood flow using state of the art Near-InfraRed light therapy. The totally painless application of near-infrared light allows for angiogenesis. If you were wondering angiogenesis is where new blood vessels are created. The greater the blood flow the more likely the person with peripheral neuropathy will receive benefits from neuropathy treatment.Cold Laser Neuropathy TherapyNeuropathy@CoreHealth uses Class IV Cold Laser to stimulate the cells of the body to become more efficient. It does so by firing up the mitochondria of the cell, this is where cells get their energy. So by enhancing the energy center we can give the body mor of what it needs but has a hard time producing- energy. Cold Laser is applied locally to the hands and feet of all neuropathy cases we treat. We feel it is an important step that ensures help for our neuropathy patients.PEMF Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field TherapyNeuropathy@CoreHealth has been using PEMF for several years. As far as we know we are the only neuropathy treatment centers doing so. We have it to be a valuable tool. PEMF therapy uses bursts of low-level electromagnetic radiation to heal damaged tissues and bone, to relieve injury-related pain, and even to stimulate organs.diabetesdiabetic foot painneuropathyperipheral neuropathychemotherapydiabetic nerve paindiabetic footnerve pain in footdiabetic foot pain at nightdiabetes and foot problems symptomsdiabetes aching legstype 2 diabetes foot problemspain in fingers and toes diabetesthrobbing feet diabetestoe cramps diabetesdiabetic neuropathyneuropathic paintingling in feetwhat is neuropathy
