I'm back again for my fourth conversation with Dr. Mark Cronshaw, an expert in the world of photobiomodulation (PBM), aka red light therapy. You know that when I have multiple conversations with a guest, I highly value their knowledge and want to go deeper with what they have to share. If you want to get VERY technical and go deep with the topic of PBM, this episode is for you, and I recommend you listen to the prior 3 episodes we've recorded together. In this conversation, Dr. Cronshaw presents what he calls his "philosophy of care" for using photobiomodulation to enhance healing, manage pain, and prevent injury. His approach focuses on a few fundamental questions: Are you treating surface or deep tissues? Are you seeking to stimulate healing/tissue repair or provide pain relief? His multi-dimensional approach explains why different devices produce different results, enabling more strategic use of both professional and at-home light therapy tools.

Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 730 Could your DNA hold a hidden superpower that's just waiting to be activated by light? Brian Richards, Founder of SaunaSpace, joins Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, episode 730, to uncover how near-infrared saunas can help cleanse toxins, support brain function, and even raise your vibrational frequency, and why embracing your innate power to heal is the ultimate path to true freedom. "One of the effects of photobiomodulation is to correct gene transcription = how the DNA is read. The DNA and the epigenetics are being fixed in a much more powerful way with the near-infrared light than they're being damaged by the ultraviolet component of the sunlight. But indoors, we only use damaging light. There's none of the healing light anymore. So to bring ourselves back into balance, we need to get a lot more near-infrared light. And the incandescent bulb uniquely presents itself as a way to do that." - Brian Richards 10% Off SaunaSpace ThermaLight® technology combines the finest tungsten filaments, mouth-blown red-stained glass, and years of engineering to produce a full-spectrum infrared light that mimics the best of nature. Benefits: Compact and portable, hypoallergenic, tool-free assembly, wheelchair accessible, machine-washable cover, minimalist design, ZERO EMFs. All saunas have the same goal: to raise your core body temperature enough to jump-start its natural healing processes. Traditional saunas use steam, fire, or electric heaters to make the air in the sauna hot, which eventually heats up your body from the outside in. Infrared saunas tap into the science of light to help you sweat faster and more comfortably. The near-infrared light goes into the mitochondria in the brain cells and it promotes regeneration, healing, inflammation reduction, and also anti aging. It corrects the function of the cell itself by helping to re-establish connections and repair the interworking of all the cells together collectively." - Brian Richards We Lack Sunlight "The average American gets five to seven minutes of sunlight a day, just going out to the car on the way to work. We're really deprived of the things that keep us resilient and also allow us to be high frequency and multi-dimensional." - Brian Richards Light Brings Your Back Into Yourself "Light opens us up and brings us back into ourselves. Episode Summary: In this compelling episode of Functional Health Radio, Dr. Kristin Hieshetter dives into the world of detoxification through sauna use. Skilfully narrating personal anecdotes and backed by scientific research, Dr. Hieshetter paints a vivid picture of her early encounters with sauna culture and how it influenced her understanding of its health benefits. The episode promises insights into a practice deeply ingrained in some cultures and now reaffirmed by modern studies to enhance wellness in various aspects. Understanding the difference between active and passive sweating forms the core of this episode, as Dr. Hieshetter articulates the higher toxin content released during passive sweating like sauna use. This knowledge is not just informative—it's actionable. Highlighting study findings on detoxification and sauna therapy, she underscores its significance in expelling heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury and offering a multitude of health benefits. Listeners are introduced to different types of saunas, including far and near-infrared, and are educated on the science of energy transfer within these methods. Dr. Hieshetter skillfully navigates the technical aspects while maintaining an engaging conversational tone, ensuring the information remains accessible and beneficial. Key Takeaways: Saunas as Detox Tools: Regular sauna use promotes detoxification, releasing toxins through sweat more efficiently than through other excretory pathways. Health Benefits Galore: Beyond detoxification, sauna use has been linked to improved cardiovascular health, muscle recovery, and a potentially reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease. Far vs. Near Infrared: Distinct differences between far and near-infrared saunas are discussed, with near-infrared offering additional benefits for cellular health and recovery. Sauna Safety: Dr. Hieshetter emphasizes the importance of proper hydration, electrolyte balance, and consulting a medical professional before starting a sauna regimen, especially for those with pre-existing health conditions. Personal Insights: By sharing her personal experiences with sauna use, Dr. Hieshetter illustrates the transformative impact it can have on one's well-being, adding authenticity to her advice. You've likely heard the buzz around photobiomodulation, but can light exposure significantly improve sleep, recovery, and performance? Well, there are more than 15,000 studies exploring photobiomodulation as a healing modality, but despite an abundance of research, the effects of light for our health has been largely overlooked in the past few decades. Now we're becoming more aware of how artificial light can disrupt our circadian rhythm, but certain wavelengths of infrared and near infrared light used therapeutically can also have profound positive effects on our performance and overall well being. And as we'll discuss today, the uses for near infrared light go beyond health, to explore deeper mysteries in our cosmos. I'm honored to be here with Bjørn Ekeberg, author of the groundbreaking book "Metaphysical Experiments," and Co-founder and CEO of Recharge Health, the creators of the world's first targeted infrared therapy device—the FlexBeam. This episode with Bjørn gets heady, you're going to dig this one. Our bodies have always used the sun to convert light into energy for movement, healing, and restoration. With the increased prevalence of blue light devices in our everyday lives and more indoor-centric lifestyles, it's becoming harder and harder to get the benefits from the sun that used to come to us naturally. So how can we heal and restore our bodies if we can't get enough benefits from naturally occurring infrared light? Brian Richards from Sauna Space has one solution. He created a technology that combines the detoxifying benefits of a sauna, with the restorative benefits of near-infrared (NIR) light therapy. When combined, these two therapeutic methods can bring powerful benefits into our bodies, going as deep as our individual cells. When using sauna therapy combined with near-infrared light, your body can heal and detox naturally to help bring brain fog relief, ease symptoms of depression and mood disorders, detox free radicals, reset circadian rhythms, and more. Join us to learn how the near-infrared light therapy benefits can help you on your path to healing and restoration and discover the mental health benefits that combining sweat-light therapy can bring almost immediately. This week we are going to dig into some interesting research I've been compiling the last several months (and I have plenty more where this came from!). We will cover an array of our favorite topics in red light therapy, mitochondria and methylene blue. We will first look at a piece of research that discusses primary mitochondrial diseases (PMDs); however, the article is directed towards physicians and how they can start to recognize patterns and red flags associated with various PMDs (i.e., mitochondrial dysfunction). To me this is extremely exciting in the sense that this type of mitochondrial information is (slowly but surely) permeating its way into the allopathic world. It can't happen fast enough! The second article looks at methylene blue and a new, yet quite similar synthetic dye salt, blue compound called toluidine blue. The study looks at how when used together, they have a synergistic effect against oral squamous cell carcinoma. I need to know more about toluidine blue! The third article looks at the effect of transcranial photobiomodulation on concussions. This study is a perfect example of a "non-result" not necessarily being a bad thing or that is should be taken at face value. I will discuss why.The last, and likely most relevant, study I review is on red light therapy's impact on reducing pain and improving function with plantar fasciitis (PF). I've personally never dealt with PF, but I have treated it countless times as a physical therapist and know many other people that have dealt with it -- long story short, it is not fun in the slightest and is incredibly easy for it to become a chronic and/or recurring issue. Red light therapy certainly has a role to play with PF. And, based on my experience, cupping may be one of the BEST modalities in the fight against PF. Did anyone say ReVamp cupping system for combined red light therapy and cupping? Do what you can with what you have, being intentional and using your intuition. Listen to your body and do what it says with food, light, and relationships. Our bodies are really smart. And if we tap into that we can become our own healer. As humans we are designed to need certain kinds of light (especially red and near-infrared). But in our modern world, we often don't get enough of this healing and beneficial light, and instead get a lot of light that can be damaging (like blue & white light). In this episode I get to interview Brian Richards, owner of Sauna Space, a company that combines cutting-edge incandescent infrared technology with the age-old (and proven) practice of sauna. I have one of their photon lights and if you follow me on social media, you've seen the red light in my magical morning routine. Brian and I cover how we can access the benefits of light both through nature, how these practices were woven into our daily lives ancestrally, and how we can recreate these benefits therapeutically with certain tools. We also touch on the BALANCE of not letting therapies and biohacking overwhelm you, and to really go by what feels good. In this interview Dr. Mercola speaks with repeat guest Brian Richards, founder of SaunaSpace, will focus on the differences between traditional Finnish saunas, conventional infrared saunas and near-infrared saunas, and why near-infrared exposure is so important.
Brian Richards, founder of SaunaSpace, found himself sick and struggling with insomnia, adult acne, and adrenal fatigue. After months of research and working with an alternative medicine doctor, he discovered that near infrared saunas could offer him a non-medicated solution. Within days of using a near infrared sauna, he noticed an immediate change in his symptoms and he saw such positive benefits that he continued with his sauna practice for the past 13 years — it's been that life-changing for him. Over the course of that time, Brian dove into the research and he comes on the podcast to share everything he's learned along the way with listeners and Dr. Anthony Gustin. When you tune in, you'll discover the ancestral connection, why we need exposure to heat now more than ever, and the benefits that come with this practice. On top of those topics, Brian shares practical use cases and whether you should use a wet or dry sauna, how long you should stay in a sauna, should you do it before or after a workout, how many times per week you could use a sauna, and more. So not only will you learn about the benefits of using saunas, you'll also find a practical guide for how to do just that to reap the biggest health perks when you check out the episode. Here's a breakdown of what's in store: Brian's journey and how he went from working in rental real estate and on fixer uppers to creating SaunaSpace, a zero EMF near infrared sauna Why Brian chose to use incandescent light instead of heat in his saunas The three things to achieve with each sauna session Dynorphins, including what they are and how they can be beneficial What the research shows when combining sauna and exercise Should you do a workout, then do a sauna session, then expose yourself to cold temperatures? The protocol Brian recommends when it comes to hot and cold therapy How a sauna session can help before bed 5G frequency bands and why this matters

That's what high performance is to me, the ability to adapt rapidly so you can achieve your potential. There are five key pillars to creating the conditions for adaptability: sleep, exercise, mental resilience, nutrition, and community/relationships.” - Dr. Erik Korem “I maybe have a different concept on leadership. To me, leading is a verb. If you're leading, you're a leader. If you're swimming you're a swimmer, if you're driving you're a driver. If you're leading you're by definition a leader. I define leading as being looked to in a particular moment to make a decision or perform an action based on your unique gifts and abilities. So by that definition, everybody is a leader. All rank and role really describe is how many people are hoping you get it right when it's your turn to wear the weight.” - Clint Bruce "Attention is the currency of performance." - Dr. Peter Haberl “That's what I've discovered in the lives of brilliant, prolific, healthy creatives, is that they have networks of people they leverage in the course of their work. That they learn from, that they were challenged by, that they gave great insight and purview into their own life and work, in such a way that they were able to receive feedback that helped them get better at what they do.” - Todd Henry "Restful and fulfilling sleep enables you to grow, adapt, and thrive. It creates the conditions for adaptation, so you can pursue audacious goals and thrive in uncertainty." - Dr. Erik Korem "Most exercise programs fail, not because the reps and sets are poorly designed, but because the program doesn't adjust for how much stress your body can adapt to that day!. That's why Dr. Chris Morris' research and practical application of fluid periodization is the key for unlocking your performance potential." - Dr. Erik KoremSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
