A farmer in Buga, Colombia was operating his tractor on May 7 when he noticed a silver sphere flying low in the sky nearby. He hopped off the tractor and managed to capture a couple minutes of footage that shows a sphere flying above a field near trees. The object eventually disappeared, but then another one - or the one that had vanished earlier - appeared, and he filmed that one, too. Also, a correction is presented regarding information shared during the previous podcast about what filmed the 2023 Las Vegas alien UFO falling from the sky with an infrared camera. A self-driving robotic taxicab owned by Amazon is what actually filmed the object, and not an Amazon-owned surveillance robot called K5 by Knightscope. Also, the location from where the object was when it filmed the UFO was not in the area of an Amazon facility at 6001 E. Tropical Parkway in Las Vegas. It was actually filmed from the area of 6421 W. Yes, we have a 100-foot bridge on order.  No, it's not coming from Amazon.   But, if you're curious about more than a dozen engineering projects happening all over Dublin from bridges to fiber optics to roundabouts, this is your episode!  Director of Engineering, Paul Hammersmith, is back with Lindsay and Bruce to discuss projects in and around your neighborhood:   U.S. 33 and Post Road, Emerald Parkway near the new Mount Carmel Hospital, a new roundabout, and a big update on the altafiber, fiber optics project, just to name a few.   Plus, we always have water and road maintenance projects that constantly improve and beautify our neighborhoods to tell you about.  Speaking of which, did you know our great City spends roughly the same on road maintenance as Dayton, which has nearly triple our population.  As Paul explains, it's a testament to not just building the amenities that are the envy of cities nationally but having the foresight, planning prowess and tax base to maintain those class-leading amenities.   And here's a bonus.  Paul's guest appearance means projects are ramping up again because the weather will get warmer and hopefully soon!

This episode of Postpartum Production was recorded live at Blackbird Books Bookstore and Cafe in San Francisco, on a warm Spring day in the shop's back garden. This beautiful event was co-hosted by Recess Collective, a local San Francisco organization that builds inclusive community-centered spaces for families, particularly in the early years of parenting. A heartfelt thank you to both organizations for their efforts in uniting our community on that day, and every day. That day, Kaitlin joined author Nicole Haroutunian at Blackbird for a reading of her novel Choose This Now, published by Noemi Press this year, with conversation and questions from the audience about her process and inspiration for the book. In the audience were young children and parents wandering in and out; a mother nursing her child for most of the event sitting in the audience. We hope these kinds of readings and author events become more common ways that we can incorporate those whose schedules don't accommodate evening or late night events, but can fold into days when caregiving can, as we know, often feel like the only task.In addition to readings from Choose This Now, Kaitlin and Nicole discuss:How Nicole has chosen to navigate talking about experiences of early caregiving, friendship, and all the layers that she manages in the book, in a realistic wayThe experience of having given birth; what shifted in Nicoles life in terms of how she now creates literary worksHow Nicole relates to her work, and how that fed her characters experiences themselves as wellA special shout out to Artist Residency in Motherhood (ARiM), mentioned in this episode, and Cut + Paste, for bringing Kaitlin and Nicole- and so many other artist mothers- together. More on Nicole: Nicole is also the author of Speed Dreaming, which was published by Little A in 2015. Her work has appeared in the Georgia Review, Story, the Bennington Review, Joyland, Post Road, and Tin House's Open Bar, as well as many others. She lives with her family in Woodside, Queens in New York City. From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast presented by Engineered Solutions of Georgia. Today is Thursday, November 2nd and I'm Keith Ippolito. This Section of the Highway 20 Widening Project Is Expected to be Completed by End of Year The Georgia Department of Transportation is nearing completion of the first segment of the Highway 20 widening project, encompassing Interstate 575 in Canton and Scott Road. Initially slated for completion in May, delays pushed it to late summer and, more recently, the end of the year due to construction and plan revisions. This section expands Highway 20 to six lanes with a concrete median, sidewalks, and turn lanes at major driveways and intersections. The subsequent segment, Scott Road to Union Hill Road, includes similar enhancements and is expected to be completed late next year. Further segments from Union Hill Road to Post Road are set for bidding in late 2024. The project will also extend into Forsyth County, and a separate widening project along Highway 20 will begin from the interchange with Interstate 75 in Bartow County to Interstate 575 in Cherokee County in the spring. John "Doc" Holliday was many things in his short life. It may surprise readers to learn that Holliday graduated from The Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery in Philadelphia, with his doctoral thesis on Diseases of the Teeth. While he practiced in various locations, Holliday was also a keeper of gaming tables and was involved in the events that surrounded the famous 1882 shootout at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona (in which Holliday was wounded). Hard-drinking and suffering from tuberculosis, author Matt Di Paoli brings "Holliday" to life in his new novel. Drawing on Val Kilmer's performance in Tombstone, Di Paoli shows Doc in a charismatic light, seeking to outrun his illness by moving to dryer climes, but also in search of a spring that could well cure him. Along the way, he helps his old friend Wyatt Earp in his ongoing feud with the Clanton/McLaury gang, is followed by paparazzi, and indulges in his fascinations for alcohol, gambling, women, and death. Matt Di Paoli earned his MFA in Fiction at Columbia University. He has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize three times, and "Holliday" brought him the Wilbur & Niso Smith Adventure Writing Prize. His works include "Killstanbul" (El Balazo Press), and his stories have appeared in "Boulevard," "Fjords," "Post Road," and "Cleaver." He currently teaches writing in New York City.

The pros and cons of writing in the third person limited, likely the most favored point of view. What freedoms might it grant you in terms of language and providing context? How might it hold you back in terms of intimacy? Is your neck pain causing you to lose sleep?Rarely do people take note of how they sleep when they are having pain. The pain is the big draw and is what usually gets you to act. But if you pay close attention you may notice that you are not getting quality sleep when your neck hurts. I am going to tell you why in as simple a way I can think of.Nerves help the brain control your entire body. When a nerve is compressed it limits the functionality of nerve transmission to and from the brain. Chances are when your spinal bones are misaligned they can cause you to have pain. The displaced spinal bones also can cause you to lose sleep. The cervical bones in your neck want to be in the right place. When they are not it makes it difficult for you to get comfortable enough to obtain restful REM sleep. Now for the complicated explanation, I warned you about earlier. At the top of your neck lies that brain stem. The brain stem is a relay point for most of the nerves in your body. They go through the brain stem and then upwards to the various parts of the brain. There is a nerve bundle called the Reticular Activating System. It deals with your awake and sleep cycles. That is the extent of the complicated explanation. When spinal bones compress the Reticular Activating System it becomes harder for your body to drift off to restful sleep. What is the takeaway? A chiropractor can really help put the vertebra where they belong. Most of us rely on Advil to quell the pain. So if you reach for Advil the pain will subside but you still may have pressure on your nerves. Now restful sleep becomes more problematic as your body tends to heal when you sleep. My advice is don't ignore pain if your neck hurts and if you want to get better sleep. Again, this is where a chiropractor can really help. Now I know most MDs will tell you to stay away from chiropractors. They may understand medicine but they are lacking in the mechanics of your body and how they relate to nervous system function. It is all about structure and function. The body is a biomechanical wonder that needs attention you can not get from medicine alone. If you have neck pain and would like to sleep better call me. My guest today, Pádraig Ó Tuama, is brilliant and has done so many beautiful things in his life. I decided to share the bio from his website rather than type up my version of it. It's better this way, trust me. “Poet and theologian, Pádraig Ó Tuama's work centres around themes of language, power, conflict and religion. For Ó Tuama, religion, conflict, power and poetry all circle around language, that original sacrament. Working fluently on the page and in public, he is a compelling poet and skilled speaker, teacher and group worker. He presents Poetry Unbound with On Being Studios. When BBC journalist William Crawley introduced Pádraig on the stage to deliver a TEDx talk on Story, Crawley said, "He's probably the best public speaker I know." Ó Tuama's published work incorporates poetry (Readings from the Book of Exile [longlisted for the Polari Prize 2013]; Sorry for your Troubles, Feed the Beast), prose (In The Shelter) and theology (Daily Prayer; Borders & Belonging, with Glenn Jordan) and anthologies: Poetry Unbound; 50 Poems to Open Your World. Work is featured or forthcoming in Poetry Ireland Review, Academy of American Poets, Raidio Teilifís Éireann's Poem of the Week, Post Road, IMAGE, Dumbo Feather, Gutter, America, and New England Review. He has broadcasted, recited and been interviewed many times on RTÉ, BBC (Radio 4, Radios Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland) and Radio National (Australia). His work has been used in Medical Journals, quoted by Princes and used in Atlases and Liturgies. From 2014-2019 he was the leader of the Corrymeela Community, Ireland's oldest peace and reconciliation community. Pádraig is married to Paul Doran. Together, in 2011, they founded Tenx9, a storytelling event where nine people have up to ten minutes each to tell a true story from their lives. Begun in Belfast, this event now has satellite events in many other cities. He holds a BA Div validated by the Pontifical College of Maynooth, an MTh from Queen's University Belfast and is currently pursuing in a PhD in at the School of Critical Studies at the University of Glasgow exploring poetry, prayer and agnosticism. In addition to these qualifications, Ó Tuama has numerous professional accreditations in conflict, focusing particularly on dynamics of group conflicts.” This conversation moved in me in deeply meaningful ways. Pádraig is a trustworthy and wise leader and I hope you are by our conversation today.

Our Guest Kelly Braffet is the author of the Border Lands novels, including The Broken Tower and The Unwilling, as well as the novels Save Yourself, Josie and Jack and Last Seen Leaving. Her writing has been published in The Fairy Tale Review, Post Road, and several anthologies. You can purchase a signed copy of The Broken Tower from https://www.oblongbooks.com/autographed-books (Oblong Books & Music) or anywhere you love to buy books. Our Conversation In the discussion that follows the story, we explore the themes from the book and the choices an author makes, particularly when creating her own fantasy world: Themes of power, not just the magical sort, and how this is central to all of Kelly's work Written in 2020 and 2021, this is a real “pandemic novel” that responds to the moment during it which it was written The dual meaning of “Work,” which describes the magic in this world and the factories that make the book “a capitalist dystopia” The question of whose stories get told and feeling haunted by all the people whose stories were never told The conscious inclusion of differently abled people as well as well as folks across gender identities and sexualities  The question “who am I writing for” and how the author's choices can hurt certain readers, particularly those with marginalized identities.  Why Kelly chose to create a mythic world that does not replicate our own Our Music Music on the show is by the wonderful Beth Sweeney and Billy Hardy, a Celtic Fiddle and multi-instrumental Duo based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. CONCERNED ABOUT lEAKY GUT Why You Should Be w/ Leaky Gut Your body is under attack and you don't even know it. Many symptoms can be happening and yet you have no idea where or why. So you take an Advil or Aleve and don't pay much attention to the symptoms. Then you learn to live with the symptoms because they are minor and nothing to worry about. So you think. Were you aware that your immune system is mainly in the intestines? It is estimated that 80% of your immunity resides in the gut. The body was designed to protect you from harm's way. The immune system tries to keep law and order inside our bodies by keeping bad things like bugs and viruses in check. We rely on good bacteria to keep the bad bacteria from taking over. When a bug or virus escapes the good bacterial environment in your intestine they create problems with inflammation. There are certain endotoxins that are created when the bugs break loose. The big-name for these endotoxins are cytokines which produce what is called a cytokine storm. This is where the body attacks the endotoxins and produces macrophages that create inflammation. In the short term, this is not a bad thing because the macrophages are doing their job. When there is prolonged exposure to these endotoxins the body is constantly inflamed. Inflammation is a problem for your brain. An inflamed brain is not healthy for you in the long run. So let's try and dumb this down to layman's terms. The wall around your intestine cannot keep the bugs from leaking out. The bugs can sneak past the blood-brain barrier thus causing the cytokine storm. The constant presence of these macrophages can lead to a host of autoimmune symptoms that can take years to manifest with clinical symptoms. Then the problem tends to be addressed with medications to deal with symptoms but not fix the walls of the intestines meant to protect you. Everyone by now has heard about the benefits of probiotics. These help seed your intestines with nutrients to keep the good bacteria strong. The good bacteria will keep the bad bacteria in check. I personally recommend a good probiotic with a good prebiotic to give your immune system a fighting chance to keep inflammation in check. Core Health Darien is located at 551 Post Road in Darien. Not Just a Chiropractor for Stamford, Darien, Norwalk and New Canaan

Why is standing better than sitting at a desk all day?Chiropractors see a wide range of spinal problems, and a lot of them have to do with poor posture and prolonged sitting or slouching. Too much lumbar pressure from constant sitting can lead to back pain. Also, extended sitting means your abdominal and hamstring muscles are contracted for hours at a time. This could lead to a weakened core and less flexibility, putting you at higher risk of potential injury and pain. But how do you combat these side effects of sitting when you have so much work to do?If you ask your chiropractor, they may tell you to take standing and stretching breaks throughout the day, because this allows your muscles to relax. Standing also burns more calories than sitting which in turn helps you combat weight gain. Plus, each time you stand you can actively correct your posture and remind yourself to avoid the temptation to slouch when you sit back down at your desk.Standing at work, whether it's getting out and going for a quick walk around the office or using a standing desk instead of a traditional one, can increase muscle movement and give your physical health a boost.Core Health Darien is located at 551 Post Road in Darien

Today's trivia is brought to you by Perennial.  Perennial's new plant-based drink “Daily Gut & Brain” is a blend of easily digestible nutrients crafted for gut and brain health. A convenient mini-meal, Daily Gut & Brain” is available now at the CVS Pharmacy in Wakefield. Now for some trivia. Did you know that Rhode Island native, Brian P. Burke is an American-Canadian ice hockey executive and former analyst serving as president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins? He has also served as the general manager of the Hartford Whalers, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks (with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2007) and Toronto Maple Leafs, as well as president of hockey operations for the Calgary Flames. Burke was also the general manager for the United States national men's ice hockey team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Now, we turn our feature story…. If appointed to serve as interim town manager by the Town Council, Police Chief Shawn Lacey says he will use the time with a potential eye toward a permanent switch of jobs. The council, during a meeting scheduled for Monday, is expected to consider appointing Lacey to serve as interim town manager. The council is also expected to present a commendation to outgoing Town Manager J. Mark Rooney, who on Sept. 9 announced his intention to resign. The agenda for the meeting provides clarity that was missing following the council's previous meeting about how the it plans to handle Rooney's resignation. On Friday, both Lacey and Town Council President Sharon Ahern, said the potential interim period could serve as a trial period for both Lacey and the council and give all parties time to contemplate future steps. Ahern said: "I think it would be a two-way look for the council and for Chief Lacey. It may not, ultimately, be something he's interested in," "For now we would just like to stabilize and see how the chief slides into the position. I assume he will do very well, after all he has been in this situation before and no one knows the town better than he." Lacey, who was appointed chief by Rooney, has served brief stints as interim town manager when Rooney was out of town for conferences or when he had time off during his more than three-year tenure. Some of those stints occurred during major storms or when Lacey had to make executive decisions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lacey said: "I'm looking forward to the opportunity of interim manager. I'm honored that I'm being asked." In the interim role, Lacey would also continue as police chief. A 34-year veteran of the police department, Lacey said he is not yet certain he is ready to close the door on his career in law enforcement. Lacey said: "I have to weigh it out. ... Am I ready to or willing to turn in my police badge and make that giant leap of faith?" "The tenure of managers haven't always been the longest. I have to weigh that in. I enjoy the town, I grew up in town and I've worked for the police department for the last 34 years and I wish to remain gainfully employed," Stay up to date on this developing story at westerlysun.com There are a lot of businesses in our community that are hiring right now, so we're excited to tell you about some new job listings. You're listening to the Westerly Sun's podcast, where we talk about the best local events, new job postings, obituaries, and more. First, a bit of Rhode Island trivia. Did you know that noted attorney, author, and publisher, Robert Ellis Smith, was born in Providence? He wrote a number of books on privacy and a quiz book called Block Island Trivia. In the 90's, he was the president of the Block Island Conservancy. He was al the vice-chair of the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council. Now, for our feature story: The owners of the Apple Rehab nursing home in Watch Hill say the facility will remain operational until new accommodations are found for all of its residents. The facility's imminent closure was announced earlier this week. The state Department of Health confirmed on Wednesday that Apple Rehab Watch Hill's closure plan had been submitted and approved by the department, which regulates nursing homes in Rhode Island. The department is monitoring the closure process and the state's long-term care ombudsman is involved and expected to work with the facility to find residents new homes. The company operates about 20 nursing homes in Connecticut and two in Rhode Island, the one in Watch Hill and Apple Rehab Clipper on Post Road in Westerly. Donorfio referred to problems hiring workers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in her statement and said the company hoped to offer staff at the Watch Hill facility jobs at other facilities owned by the company, including the one on Post Road. The Apple Rehab Watch Hill facility is licensed for 60 beds and had 30 residents as of Wednesday. The state health department reviews nursing home staffing schedules during annual recertification surveys and when the department receives complaints about staffing. A registered nurse is required to be in the home at all times, said Annemarie Beardsworth, a spokeswoman for the department. Apple Rehab Watch Hill has not had its annual survey yet this year and has not had any recent deficiencies related to staffing, Beardsworth said. The state does not currently impose staffing ratio requirements, but a new state law that takes effect in January establishes an average of at least 3.58 hours of direct nursing care per resident, per day, and 3.81 hours starting Jan. 1, 2023. Another show in paradise here on the Cadillac Jack: My Second Act podcast.  Luke Bryan biked a century- aka 100 miles- which makes Donna wants to summit something. She is thinking Machu Pichu or Everest. Caddy wants her to start with Kennesaw Mountain. Donna wants to swim across the English Channel. Caddy wants her to start with swimming across the Wills Park pool. Caddy uses the segment to cover Country music’s hottest new artist with a song that ended up in the Top 10 within 24 hours of release. Then Donna talks about why she thinks Caddy is not as invested and interested as he once was. According to Caddy, he just doesn’t like animal videos. Who has been to more health centers? Caddy went a lot because they have free… candy. Donna has been back when she had… strep. They cover some of the COVID-19 considerations that the University of Georgia’s Health Center may have released to students. Some of the recommendations are inappropriate for the show to broadcast. Just, consider wearing a mask. Little Hyde loved sugar. So much so that reminiscing caused Caddy to pull a U-Turn and head up Post Road. As Donna says, if you’re not from Atlanta, “that’s out in the middle of nowhere.” It causes Dona and Caddy to jump segments and talk about the newly re-discovered Nature Valley and Sunbeam stores. Caddy took so many laps that he had to get a cart. Rolls. Buns. 4 for $5. Turns out his food pyramid is made up of sugar, cinnamon and high fructose corn syrup. The segment caps with a reminder of just how connected memories are to food. Have your kids been all up in your business? Donna thinks yes- and she literally means her business. “Like a whole new gang of coworkers.” Nowadays everyone has to get creative about how they create alone time. At the end of the day, the kids really are the heroes. That’s one reason Charlotte was a red-plater this week. Don’t miss the Caddy Wagon with Ritchey and Raider, the newest podcast from Cadillac Jack. Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. When you’re done, text Caddy. 7704646024.

Back & Neck Pain Relief using Cutting Edge Non Surgical Spinal DecompressionDisc herniations cause serious back and neck pain. Usually diagnosed by an MRI, we can determine the severity of the bulge or herniation. A bulge is a minor herniation and can usually be fixed easier than a more serious herniation. The process for both neck spinal decompression and low back spinal decompression are virtually the same. To understand what happens think of when you squeeze a tube of toothpaste. While there is pressure still on the tube some toothpaste remains outside the tube. When you remove the pressure the remaining toothpaste goes back into the tube. This is very much what happens to your herniated or bulging disc in the back or neck. The spinal disc has left its place between the spinal bones. The disc then exerts pressure on the spinal cord or delicate spinal nerve roots. Non-surgical spinal decompression creates a negative pressure within the spinal canal that causes the disc material to be re-absorbed into its proper location. Now, of course, this can be done surgically but there are great risks involved with back surgery.Neurosurgeon Norman Sheely recognized the inherent danger of multiple surgeries to treat herniated discs. You may not recognize the name but he invented many pain sparring devices including the tens units commonly used today to relieve back pain. He came up with the idea to create a therapy to remove the disc herniation using negative pressure in the disc space. Core Health Darien was one of the first chiropractic and physical therapy clinics in the country to adopt this groundbreaking therapy. We have found that combining spinal decompression with chiropractic care and physical therapy we can offer our back and neck pain patients the highest level of care without having to resort to surgery. Many have followed in our footsteps and have found the treatment to be wildly successful. If you are having low back pain or serious neck pain and feel you have bulging or herniated discs then you should consider this treatment. You will be receiving chiropractic care along with physical therapy for a more complete solution to your lower back pain. Hello Slushies! Today, we put the “pee” in PBQ when Jason reminds us not to over-hydrate (it’s a thing!). Marion is in the Philadelphia Studio and Samantha in Portland for the Tin House Summer Workshop, which triggers an epic donut-discussion. Must-try doughnuts: VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland, Federal Doughnuts in Philadelphia, and Dough in New York City.  After daydreaming about desserts, and resisting the bullying power of nutrition Apps, we dive into three poems by Tanya Grae. These poems are included in Grae’s book Undoll (YesYes Books, 2019).  All are ekphrastic, allusive, homage poems-- and we pour over the way Grae is adapts, innovates, remixes, and recreates poems across these poems.  We’re drawn to the layered conversation and formal prosody and synchronicity she sets up-- our thumbs are flipped, our heads are spun. The first is after Lorca’s “The Unfaithful Housewife” (translated by Conor O’Callaghan). The second is an intriguing and baffling poetic rant,  “Duchess, A Found Poem.” And the final, the tripendicular “Dear Ozy,” triggers the sound of thinking from the Slush Pile crew:  we ponder maps and palimpsests, spirals and dimensions, Google searches and precarious empires. Samantha reminds us that someone, maybe Twain, said “history doesn’t repeat, but it often rhymes.” Associative spirals make this conversation a joy.    Short bio: Tanya Grae was born in South Carolina while her father was stationed at Shaw, and she grew up moving to random Air Force towns like Little Rock, Minot, Tucson, Panama City, and Homestead. This survivalist training prepared her for a litany of jobs, academia, and parenting three humans, two of whom are now adulting. Her debut poetry collection, Undoll, is forthcoming from YesYes Books in fall 2019 and was a National Poetry Series finalist. Her poems and essays have appeared in AGNI, Ploughshares, American Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner, Post Road, and other journals. She now lives in Tallahassee with her youngest daughter who loves her despite her inability to help with advanced math, certain her mother’s attempts could bring about the apocalypse. Spotting bad store sign grammar is her superpower; kvetching about it is her weakness. Find out more at: tanyagrae.com   At the Table: Kathy, Marion, Brit, Jason, & Samantha
