Catch Headache Video Here : Have you ever experienced a headache that's far more intense than usual and localized to one side of your face, accompanied by perhaps some tearing or nasal congestion? These could be signs of Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalgia (TAC), a condition that's significantly more debilitating than your typical headache. Distinguishing between these and more common types of headaches is not just about managing pain but understanding a possibly serious underlying condition. Understanding trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs) begins with recognizing their unique and debilitating symptoms. As an experienced chiropractor for headaches, Dr. Brian McKay of Core Health in Darien offers cutting-edge therapy to eliminate TAC's. TAC's often present with unilateral pain that can be excruciatingly severe. This pain is frequently accompanied by autonomic symptoms such as eye watering, nasal congestion, or eyelid drooping, primarily affecting one side of your face. Dr. Brian McKay and his team specialize in non-medication headache relief techniques, which can be particularly beneficial if you're dealing with the intense pain of TACs.This podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. Having been a student of Yoga Psychotherapist Ashley Turner for well over a decade, todays episode is an absolute prividge. Today I share our Insta Live deep dive into the importance of pelvic health, particularly during midlife and menopause. I share my own personal journey; from being unaware of pelvic health issues to becoming a specialised pelvic floor and core coach following her own postpartum experiences, despite being a qualified Physiotherapist. We highlight the lack of quality education and knowledge regarding pelvic floor health in Western medical and yoga training. Despite our different speciality backgrounds, we deeply understand and appreciate the intersecting physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of pelvic health and shed light on the prevailing societal stigma, with the intention of better supporting our women. In this episode, Ashleigh and Rachel answer questions from listeners: What are coregasms? How and why do they happen in the gym, and if they're happening, how can you stop them so you don't hurt yourself during a heavy back squat? (yikes!) What is a deload week? How do you program them properly? When do you know you need one, and what does it consist of? If you had money allocated specifically for health or fitness improvement, what would you spend it on? In this episode, the focus is on menopause and peri-menopause and offers an empowering discussion on why pelvic floor health undergoes dramatic changes during this massive life phase.Professionally and personally I have witnessing a tidal wave of women grappling with severe hormonal symptoms, disrupting well-being, sexual health, and our intimate relationships. I struggle to understand why as a society we are not better preparing for and supporting our women through this exciting but often turbulent transition. In this episode we discuss the hormonal shift women experience during menopause and peri-menopause, specifically the reduction in Oestrogen production. Combined with the deeper mental and emotional transition beyond the fertile period of life this time is delicate, intricate and mentally and physically stressful. I explore how we mask the monumental transition of menopause to 'being a hormone thing' rather than other significant life transitions, such as puberty or early motherhood. We need to better understand the internal stress our bodies and minds go through. Our pelvic floor health is deeply affected by these changes. Increased stress and hormonal fluctuations often lead to increased pelvic floor muscle tone, pelvic congestion, pain, increased urine frequency and UTI's etc. This can, will and does disrupt the breathing cycle, core strength, and overall body well-being.Let's learn to listen to your pelvic floor and your body overall. Let's learn to adopt a holistic approach to managing and navigating symptoms. While medical interventions like HRT or topical Oestrogen can offer immediate relief, understanding and restoring hormonal balance internally is crucial. And here is that link to register for Novembers project where I want to help you better connect with your body to odies through breathing exercises, relaxation techniques and connecting with your pelvic floor:www.FitFannyAdams.com/NOVEMBER or drop me a message at @fitfannyadams.Connect, I'd love to hear from you! x Sj
Today's episode is about something I've discussed frequently with clients, particularly mums and grannies – those 'just because' wees. Yes, those times when you go to the bathroom just because you're about to get in a car or there's a toilet nearby! Let's dig into why 'just because' wees are not great for our pelvic health. Frequent urination is defined as when we urinate more than our bladder actually requires, which typically means eight or more times in a 24-hour period. There's also nocturia, which is a similar issue but occurs during the night. So, why am I so passionate about stopping 'just because' wees? Well, this practice can disrupt the natural communication between our bladder and brain. When we go before our bladder is actually full, our brain starts to override the bladder's signals, leading to confusion and eventually, more frequent urges to go without the bladder being truly full. Creating a negative cycle and lead to psychological stress. Many women avoid social activities, exercise, and even work due to fear of needing to use the bathroom frequently. And let's not forget, people might reduce their fluid intake to cope, which can further irritate the bladder due to concentrated urine. However, there are many strategies to manage this and like most pelvic floor issues, is not a case of doing one single thing! Seeking professional help is always the best place to start! Work on your pelvic floor relaxation - educate your brain on what a relaxed bladder feels like Here is the SPOTIFY link to episode 20 Learning to Let GO or HERE on Apple Podcast Jump into my 6 week Transform Your Core and Pelvic Floor programme with this BONUS 20% DISCOUNT of £199 instead of £249 www.FitFannyAdams.com/JustBecauseor HERE www.FitFannyAdams.com/USJustBecause for your $239 access (rrp $299)And as ever, if you have questions or just want to connect with me, its @FitFannyAdams or sarahjane@FitFannyAdams.comHappy pelvic and core health!xx Sj
Today's we're delving into a topic that's surprisingly common yet often overlooked – diastasis, or abdominal separation. Now, I know what you might be thinking – "Isn't that just a post-pregnancy thing?" Yes, it often is, but it's not exclusively and it isnt always something that just sorts itself out. It's estimated that between 50% and two thirds of all postpartum women experience some degree of abdominal separation. But here's the thing; it's not just about the aesthetics. It's about the deeper impact on your core health and overall well-being.Abdominal separation isn't just about the size of the gap. It's about the coordinated activation (or lack of) of the deeper layers of muscle and fascia that make up your core. When these aren't working together, it can lead to issues beyond just the appearance of your belly. We're talking about core stability, pain management, and overall body function. And here's the twist – the pain from abdominal separation often shows up in other areas like the lower back, hips, or even the neck. It's a ripple effect that can cause discomfort and frustration. But the good news is, there's so much we can do to restore and support the healing process. I want to invite you to join me on a transformative journey. Whether you're a new mum, a not so new mum, or just someone looking to prioritise your core and pelvic floor health, I've got you covered.I'm thrilled to report that my signature "6 weeks - Transform Your Core" program is returning in September. Exploring the combined benefits of cupping and chiropractic care can offer a holistic approach to addressing headaches. Imagine a treatment approach that not only targets your symptoms but also addresses the underlying causes of your headaches. By exploring the synergistic effects of these two therapies, you might just discover a comprehensive solution that provides lasting results. Cupping therapy involves placing special cups on your skin to create suction. This suction can help increase blood flow to the area, promoting healing and reducing muscle tension. By targeting specific points on your body, cupping therapy aims to alleviate headache symptoms such as pain and tightness. Many people find this technique to be relaxing and effective in managing headache discomfort. Chiropractic adjustments can effectively alleviate headaches by realigning the spine and reducing muscle tension. Chiropractic care can help alleviate headaches by realigning the spine, reducing tension in the muscles, and improving overall nerve function. Headaches respond to cupping and chiropractic care without having to take medication If your medication alone was working why do you continue to get headaches? Fortunately, you can get lasting headache relief. Core Health Darien has successfully treated many difficult cases of headaches. Would you like to try this novel approach of combining Chiropractic and Cupping to relieve your headaches? Follow the instructions on this video and become headache-free and start enjoying life without headaches. Look forward to a life without headaches. https://darienchiropractor.com/herniated-discs/https://youtu.be/hS5I_ZfPQEA (watch this video for more info)If you've been grappling with back discomfort, you may be contemplating whether a bulging disc or a herniated disc is causing your back or neck pain. A bulging disc hints at a minor extension beyond its usual limits and can cause painful spinal nerve irritation. A herniated disc involves the inner core of the disc pushing through a tear in the outer layer, potentially causing pain, numbness, or weakness. The distinction between these conditions could be the key to addressing your spinal health concerns effectively. Herniated discs cause more severe symptoms than bulging discs. Bulging discs involve minor aches and pain, while herniated discs present as more debilitating serious pain. Herniated discs cause radiating pain, numbness, or weakness. This can often lead to surgical intervention in serious cases. Are you sleeping with a bulging or herniated disc? Disc problems will prevent restful sleep. A slipped disc in the neck can cause you to lose restful sleep. A herniated disc in the back can prevent you from getting out of bed due to intense pain. What you should know is that conservative chiropractic care from Core Health Darien will help. Dr. Mc Kay was one of the first chiropractic clinics to offer non-surgical spinal decompression to treat bulging and herniated discs. Stay on for a special offer from Core Health and Dr. McKay, You will be able to try spinal decompression and feel the tremendous pain-relief immediately 203-656-3636This podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. Our guest on this week's episode is Breanna Herbert, senior product manager at Orbis Corp. One way that companies can meet their sustainability goals is to transform the way they package goods. That's where reusable packaging can help to create greener supply chains. Our guest offers some insights and also shares about packaging products that are made from recycled materials gathered from shorelines of the world's oceans. We have all seen those Amazon or UPS trucks pull right up outside our driveways and watch a delivery driver carry a single box to our doorstep to make a delivery. But that type of delivery is not practical in urban areas where the trucks cannot easily navigate. Instead, they often use e-bikes in cities, but that can also present some problems. We discuss some ways that New York City is utilizing technology to make bike-based deliveries more practical.Shippers are turning to logistics services providers more and more in the wake of the pandemic economy to get a better handle on costs and improve their supply chain operations. One company that is working with a 4PL is Core Health & Fitness, which makes commercial fitness equipment and related digital solutions. We talk about the benefits they have gained with this logistics partnership.Supply Chain Xchange also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane. Risks for Dementia Video on youtubehttps://darienchiropractor.com/dementia-risks/Possible Reasons Why Women are at Greater risk of developing Alzheimer's. While it's true that women are more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease than men Several factors may contribute to the higher prevalence of Alzheimer's disease in women Women, on average, tend to live longer than men. Since age is a significant risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, the longer lifespan of women contributes to a higher overall prevalence of the condition. Some studies suggest that hormonal changes, particularly those associated with menopause, may play a role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Estrogen, a hormone that decreases significantly during menopause, has been studied for its potential neuroprotective effects The APOE ε4 allele, a known genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, may have a stronger impact in women than in men Women who carry the APOE ε4 allele may have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease compared to men with the same genetic variant Conditions that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol, may also contribute to the risk of Alzheimer's disease Sex differences in immune function could contribute to the gender disparity in Alzheimer's risk There is evidence to suggest that the immune system and inflammatory responses may be involved in the development of Alzheimer's disease Did you know that 23and Me will test for APOE4 Gene? Perhaps you should take the test and find out if you are at risk for Alzheimer's This podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. https://darienchiropractor.com/darien/hiatal-hernia-darien-ct/What is a Hiatal Hernia?Ever had that awful feeling of heartburn or acid reflux and wondered what's causing it? Well, it could be a condition where a part of your stomach pushes up into your chest area through an opening in your diaphragm, a large muscle crucial for breathing. This condition is known as a hiatal hernia. There are different causes for this hernia, such as age, obesity, and certain physical activities that put pressure on the abdomen. Symptoms might include chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and that familiar burning sensation in your chest or throat, known as heartburn. When it comes to treatment options for a hiatal hernia, there's a range to consider. You might be able to manage your symptoms with lifestyle modifications, like eating smaller meals, avoiding certain foods that trigger heartburn, and not lying down immediately after eating. If these changes aren't enough, surgical interventions might be necessary. This could involve pulling your stomach back into the abdomen and making the opening in the diaphragm smaller, or even reconstructing an entirely new valve from a part of your stomach.Hiatal Hernia Video on You tubehttps://sites.google.com/view/corehealthdarien/Find us on Social Mediahttps://chiropractor-darien-dr-brian-mckay.business.site https://g.page/r/Cd4zGiJFpqJ9EBM/review https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNHc0Hn85Iiet56oGUpX8rw back pain projeThis podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. https://darienchiropractor.com/darien-ct-leaky-gut-explained/Do you know what a Leaky Gut is? Do you have any of the following health issues? Digestive issues: This may include bloating, gas, diarrhea, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)-like symptoms. Food sensitivities: Advocates of the leaky gut theory propose that the increased permeability of the intestine allows larger particles to enter the bloodstream, potentially triggering immune reactions and food sensitivities. Fatigue: Some people claim to experience fatigue as a result of leaky gut, though fatigue is a common symptom in many health conditions. Joint pain: Joint pain and inflammation are sometimes linked to leaky gut Skin problems: Conditions such as eczema and acne have been suggested to be associated with leaky gut by some proponents. Autoimmune diseases: There is a theoretical link between increased intestinal permeability and autoimmune diseases, as the theory suggests that leaked particles may trigger an immune response Here are some factors that have been proposed to contribute to leaky gut: Dietary factors: Certain dietary components, such as a high intake of refined sugars, saturated fats, and processed foods, may contribute to inflammation and affect the integrity of the intestinal lining. Gut dysbiosis: Imbalance in the gut microbiota, known as dysbiosis, has been suggested as a potential factor. Disruptions in the balance of beneficial and harmful bacteria in the gut may influence intestinal permeability. Chronic stress: Prolonged stress may have an impact on the gut and its functions. Stress hormones, such as cortisol, could potentially affect the integrity of the intestinal barrier. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): Long-term use of NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, has been associated with increased intestinal permeability in some studies. Excessive alcohol consumption: Alcohol can contribute to inflammation and damage the intestinal lining, potentially increasing permeability. Environmental factors: Exposure to environmental toxins and pollutants has been proposed as a potential contributor to leaky gut Core Health Darien might be able to help you with a leaky gut. Shoulder pain can be related to various neurological factors and connections within the central nervous system. The central nervous system (CNS) includes the brain and spinal cord, and it plays a crucial role in transmitting and processing pain signals. Here are a few ways in which shoulder pain and the central nervous system are connected:1. Nerve Impingement:Brachial Plexus: The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that control the shoulder, arm, and hand muscles. Compression or impingement of these nerves due to conditions like thoracic outlet syndrome or cervical radiculopathy can cause shoulder pain.2. Referred Pain:Visceral Referred Pain: Problems in internal organs like the heart, liver, or gallbladder can cause shoulder pain. This phenomenon, known as referred pain, occurs because the nerves that supply the internal organs and the shoulder converge at the same levels in the spinal cord, leading to the brain interpreting the pain as coming from the shoulder.4. Neuropathic Pain:Neuropathy: Damage to peripheral nerves (nerves outside the brain and spinal cord) can cause neuropathic pain. Conditions like diabetic neuropathy or nerve injuries near the shoulder can result in chronic shoulder pain due to faulty signaling to the brain.5. Inflammatory Responses:Cytokines and Neurotransmitters: Inflammation in the shoulder joint can lead to the release of cytokines and neurotransmitters that sensitize nearby nerves, making them more responsive to pain signals. These signals are transmitted to the CNS, leading to the perception of pain.In summary, the connection between shoulder pain and the central nervous system is multifaceted, involving a complex interplay of peripheral nerve signals, CNS processing, psychological factors, and inflammatory responses. Understanding these connections is crucial for diagnosing and effectively managing shoulder pain in clinical settings. However, they have different underlying causes.Sciatica is not a condition itself but a symptom of an underlying problem. It occurs when the sciatic nerve, which is the longest nerve in the body, gets compressed or irritated. The most common cause of sciatica is a herniated or bulging disc in the lumbar spine, which puts pressure on the sciatic nerve.Piriformis syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle, located deep in the buttocks, becomes tight or spasms, compressing or irritating the nearby sciatic nerve. In this case, the piriformis muscle itself is the source of the problem, rather than a herniated disc or other spinal issue.Core Health Darien-Dr.Brian Mc Kay 551 Post RoadDarien CT 06820203-656-363641.0833695 -73.4665207https://youtu.be/tn4HRThoiWs41.0834196 -73.46423349999999https://darienchiropractor.comThis podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. What Is Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)?Frozen shoulder is an inflammation of the capsule surrounding the shoulder joint. It usually occurs when connective tissue around the joint becomes thickened and tightens up over time. The resulting restriction of movement causes restricted mobility and discomfort due to tension on ligaments and muscles. While there is no one specific cause for developing this condition, some factors such as age, diabetes, trauma and surgery can increase risk of acquiring frozen shoulder.Treatment options vary depending on the severity and include physical therapy exercises, medications to reduce inflammation, steroid injections and in severe cases, surgery. Physical therapy exercises are typically recommended first before any other treatments since they help with stretching out affected tissues while strengthening supporting muscles around them to improve overall flexibility of the joint. Medications may be prescribed alongside physical therapy if necessary to provide relief from pain or swelling caused by adhesive capsulitis. Steroid injections offer short-term relief but should only be used as a last resort due to potential risks associated with them. Surgery is reserved for those whose symptoms are not relieved after trying multiple conservative treatment methods. No matter what type of treatment option chosen, early intervention is key to managing frozen shoulder effectively. In addition to seeking medical advice from a healthcare professional right away, performing regular stretches and strength training exercises at home can speed recovery process along significantly.Core Health Darien551 Post RoadDarien Ct 06820203-656-3636This podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. In today's episode we talk with Jaclyn Beck, she is a Business and Career Strategist, Founder and Principal of a boutique consulting and executive coaching firm launched after 14 years in private equity she is also a client at Pelvicore Rehab. Follow us @pelvicorerehab and share any questions you have on Pelvic Health or share your experience overcoming Pelvic Health related issues. Episode Notes: Many times people have pain points in several different areas of the body, they get treated but often it's only temporarily relieved. This is because the area that was symptomatic was treated NOT the root cause. Healing any pelvic health issue always requires a whole body approach. We look at the big picture and listen to people's story and connect the dots into a cohesive plan for healing. The core is meant to be automatic and reflexive. Sometimes we lose this automaticity or the speed of recruitment is delayed and compensatory movement patterns are integrated. We need to retrain the core and generate support for our bodies from the center. It is always recommended that Pregnant women initiate pelvic floor physical therapy during pregnancy. This helps them maintain optimal and efficient movement strategies and alignment. It will facilitate a faster postpartum recovery and may prevent pregnancy. The ENTIRE deep core system is led by the breath. The breath is magical and can help heal any system in the body.
