The Camogie Association is set to host a Special Congress later this month to address the skorts controversy. Kilkenny and Dublin were given an ultimatum to abandon their Leinster Semi-Final last week unless they changed back into skorts after warming in shorts in protest of Camogie Association Rules. All-Ireland Champions Cork have since committed to wearing shorts for this weekend's Munster Final and are prepared to abandon the game if necessary. The association says it has listened to player feedback and is 'committed to representing the voices of players who wish to have a choice in their playing attire'. The Special Congress will take place on May 22nd, when delegates will consider motions to allow players an option to wear shorts or skorts. To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Clare Camogie Player, Clare Hehir and CFM Analyst and St. Flannan's Coach, Ann Marie McGann. Key leaders from across the public sector are to come together at the University of Galway's J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics to share insights and explore how lessons from crises can be used to deliver future reform. The event - Leading Change in the Public Sector: Using Crisis to Deliver Future Reform - is part of the School's Thinking Beyond thought leadership series. Former and current public sector leaders will take part in the event on Wednesday, November 13th from 8.30 am to 11 am, in the O'Donoghue Theatre at the University of Galway. Ireland has experienced two of the most significant crises over the past two decades. It has been 14 years since then Taoiseach Brian Cowen announced that the EU-ECB-IMF troika would oversee Ireland's economic affairs due to the financial crisis. Some 10 years later, the highest level of movement restrictions was imposed due to the novel COVID-19 virus. The Irish economy has rebounded on the back of both crises and the event will examine the lessons learned, as well as the ongoing cultural and structural transformation in process across the Defence Forces. Former Secretary General at the Department for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, Dr. Orlaigh Quinn, who worked in Government through both the seismic events will deliver the keynote address. A panel discussion is also being hosted with Dr Quinn; Dr Ronan Glynn, the former Deputy Chief Medical Officer and current Health Sector Lead and Partner, EY; Elizabeth Canavan, Assistant Secretary General at Department of the Taoiseach; and Brian Molloy, Defence Forces Head of Transformation and President of the Camogie Association. The event will be chaired by Alma McCarthy, Professor of Public Sector Management and Dean of J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, University of Galway. Professor McCarthy said: "Ireland's public services employ more than 370,000 people with an annual budget of over €90 billion in 2024. Effective leadership of our public services significantly impacts every single citizen in our state." "Our speakers all have extensive public sector management experience with responsibility for overseeing and delivering wide-ranging change and extensive reform programmes. I am looking forward to hearing how learnings from recent crises can be harnessed to continue to deliver public sector reform."

On this week's Throw-In, Donnchadh Boyle, Dick Clerkin and Angela Walsh join Sinead Kissane to look back on the weekend's football league action. Dublin's third loss in a row came at the hands of Mayo on Saturday night, and Dick Clerkin feels they are going to be in a dogfight to remain in Division 1 next season. ‘'There's no question about it, the pressure's on and they're in a place that they've never been having to fight for survival, so how that impacts on their squad and performance remains, well, I wouldn't say remains to be seen, it's not looking good at the minute, because I say they were in that going into the Mayo game, that sort of mindset and it didn't get them a whole pile further in terms of performance and obviously not in the result.'' Kerry put on a dominant display on home soil in Killarney, with Donegal struggling to find any foothold into the game. Are Donegal facing into a similar battle with relegation as Dublin find themselves in? Donegal will be finding themselves under pressure to put in some good performances if they're hoping to stay up. This weekend also sees the GPA take their motion to the GAA congress to expedite integration of the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association. Angela Walsh feels there are still some questions to be asked around how this will look in practice: ‘'The Ladies Football have come on so much in years. And obviously it's all about the players but also, that association they have done so much work and they are really progressive. And I suppose what I would like maybe is, definitely more integration but at the same time I think the Ladies Gaelic do need a level of autonomy themselves, to be able to make their own decisions and you know as I said I'd like to see the fine print.” The Throw-In will have new episodes every Monday bringing you the best insights and analysis from all the weekend GAA action. It was a weekend that also saw Offaly's game against Galway in Division 1 postponed, Monaghan hand a walkover to Mayo in the Minor C championship and with heavy defeats elsewhere, we ask if more can be done to help the weaker counties?
