We're going here today. This is definitely jumping into the deep end, but conversations like this need to happen. As homeschool parents, we can only make fully informed decisions about our children's education when we see the full picture. And my hope is that today's episode gives you some perspective and direction for your own research. Follow that up with a conversation with your husband so the two of you are in agreement. Then move forward in your decision. I may have to run and hide after this episode {kidding!} but my opinion and perspective comes from many years of homeschooling and it has served my family well. I hope that it either helps confirm your conviction or gives you a different view on this topic. ♥ Leigh JOIN CLARIFY YOUR HOMESCHOOL TODAY --> www.clarifyyourhomeschool.com Website - > www.littlebylittlehomeschool.com Newsletter - > https://littlebylittlehomeschool.subscribemenow.com/ Community ->https://www.facebook.com/groups/homeschoollifestylecommunity Follow ->https://www.instagram.com/littlebylittlehomeschool/ Connect -> info@littlebylittlehomeschool.com Listen to these related episodes: 12. Hey, Friend! We've all heard of common core...but should you be doing it as a homeschooler? I'm answering this question today with a little dive into the history and goal of common core. But let's also discuss how to approach teaching a subject, like math, when it's not a subject you feel strong in. Let's cut to the chase and get you feeling more confident in your discussion about using common core in your homeschool. ♥ Leigh I will link to a few resources below to get you started. Understand that I am not coming at this from a political point of view and my views are not necessarily reflected in these links. This episode begins with DJ ALL MIGHT asking if we can get Pinky down for mic check. We discuss what should be taught in school and say RIP to Melvin Van Peebles. R. Reed brings up the irony of people saying jobs are available when we don't see them. Riker keeps it honest on how YT chooses applicants while joking about acceptance in the work environment. After joking about how DJ ALL MIGHT and Riker may want to homeschool children R. Reed says, wait until you do Common Core Math. Moving into music, we ask why the price isn't right and how slow of a news day it was to pick up on a missing celebrity. R. Reed and DJ ALL MIGHT go back and forth on why R. Reed decided to listen to Lil Nas X debut album but it didn't break records like the other famous debuts. We end the podcast an extended set exclusively on our Patreon, DJ ALL MIGHT utters the titular phrase while discussing trolling, and much more before we draw to a close.

Original broadcast date December 20, 2018. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2018/12/binary-system-podcast-157-incredibles-2/ Only a few days until Christmas, it's almost the end of the year, and we're finally getting better at movies! We managed to watch a popular film only six months late instead of, um, how long did it take us to see "Tangled?" Two years? Anyway, we watched "Incredibles 2" this week, and we have comments. Listen in as we fangirl about the animation, the characters, the powers, the Jack-Jack vs. Raccoon fight, and the treasure trove that is the IMDB Trivia section. We also talk a little about the film "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (stunningly beautiful visuals, but pretty much everything else is a big ol' nothing burger),"Gotham," the penultimate season of "The Vampire Diaries," the cancellation of ALL THE MARVEL NETFLIX SERIES (okay, that's an exaggeration. BUT NOT MUCH OF ONE.), why Common Core Math is supposed to be a good idea, and the similarities between binging a TV show and waiting to buy a comic book until the graphic novel comes out. This week's outro music is Christmas on Mars by Spinningmerkaba. http://freemusicarchive.org/music/spinningmerkaba/~/SantaAintComin256 Here's a link to the article we mentioned about Common Core math, and why it's supposed to encourage students to solve problems from many different angles, rather than just with memorized formulas that don't really teach how numbers interact with each other. https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2018/09/05/why-did-the-approach-to-teaching-math-change-with-common-core/?sh=7cfa68379ff2 Correction the first: Elizabeth at one point mentions Frozone and "Mr. Fantastic." She meant Mr. Incredible. She keeps doing that. Correction the second: At the time of recording we still thought all the Netflix Marvel characters were going to be in another big group show together. Once this news story https://screenrant.com/netflix-marvel-disney-reboot-daredevil-luke-cage-iron-fist/ was released, that became less likely, but we're still hearing rumors it could happen. https://gizmodo.com/disneys-already-floating-the-idea-of-reviving-netflixs-1831201804

Lets take a look at some of the data associated with the "worst pandemic in American history". As mentioned in the episode, we are not crazy conspiracy theorists, we just asked some questions about the data. It seems mildly suspicious that there were 100,000 more deaths in April of 2020 than there was in April of 2019, yet there was no where near that type of increase in any other months. Most people are concerned about standards, but many are just barely acquainted with the nuts and bolts of the process of writing standards and their application to a K-12 classroom. Dr. Lawrence Gray joins the podcast. He, along with others, wrote the Math K-12 standards in Minnesota beginning in 2007. He noticed a gap in education taking place in High Schools and what students needed by the time they entered college. He was able to develop standards that helped to close the gap and realize student potential. What's it like to write and implement them, and what results we can expect from high-quality standards? Could these same standards be implemented in Florida? Can these standards get away from the issues regarding textbooks in our schools? Learn about and read more from Dr. Gray's work and what he used to model all their standards on today's episode. “Lessons learned in creating quality Math Standards” “Frequently Asked Questions about MN Standards”
