As an HSP in business and leadership, it is important to learn how to first shift from sympathy to empathy, and then from empathy to compassion. To do this we need to actively engage in identifying and experiencing our full range of emotions, and then manage our response to those feelings using nervous system management tools in order to access lightheartedness and flow into hopeful action in spite of. All so we can be of highest service to ourselves, those we serve, and everyone around us. In this episode, I go into depth about the difference between sympathy, empathy, and compassion. I discuss how compassion is where we as highly sensitives in business and leadership are able to make the greatest difference and impact because compassion is the willingness to take action in service to positive change, which is often why we’ve chosen to be in business in the first place. I also share how lightheartedness supports us in being able to make the shift from empathy into compassion and what you can do to access hope and lightheartedness to stay out of the trap of limiting beliefs and HSP shadow behaviors. “Our nervous system is wired to take in stimulation at a much higher degree, which means we are able to really intuit what another person is thinking, what they’re feeling, what they’re experiencing, and when we’re in a strength perspective, that allows us the ability to understand and share the feelings of that other person.” – Heather Dominick Listen and Learn: 1:45: What is empathy 3:40: What is the difference between sympathy and empathy 4:25: What is compassion 7:53: How to flow into hopeful action “Compassion is more engaged than simple empathy because it involves the willingness to take action.” – Heather Dominick Links and Resources: Get your copy of Heather's book DIFFERENT: The Highly Sensitive Leadership Revolution: http://www.differentthebook.com Get your copy of the HSE Training Kit: Survive to Thrive: http://www.shiftfromsurvivetothrive.com Get your copy of the HSE Assessment and Success Guide: http://www.myhsetype.com Learn more about this episode of Business Miracles at https://www.businessmiracles.com/193

I have been trying out other podcasts lately, just to get a range of inputs into my thinking, and recently listened to Chris Williamson's Modern Wisdom podcast, Episode #723 — 15 Lessons from 2023. In that episode, he described how pleased he was to have come up with the concept “toxic compassion”. According to Williamson, “Toxic compassion is the prioritisation of short term emotional comfort over everything else, over truth, reality, actual long term outcomes, flourishing, everything. It optimises for looking good, rather than doing good.” Today, we're going to delve into the role emotions play in compassion and their profound impact on compassionate decision making and action. There is an intricate and delicate dance between our feelings and the choices we make. And sometimes, believe it or not, our apparent compassion can do more harm than good. But there's a lot of nuance to this, so, let's get started! In this 1-year anniversary episode, Julia, Westley, and Rev. Dr. Carter discuss one of the four values that shape the theology of The Loft - Compassion. We begin by listening to the less-than-dulcet tones of Dr. Carter singing Anniversty by Tony, Toni, Toné and quickly transition into a discussion on what we mean by compassion and how compassion is often conflated with sentiment. We end by examining how true compassion for others leads to restorative actions and avoids the lure of saviorism that can creep into justice movements. No matter how mindful we are of our thoughts, speech and actions, being human means that we can sometimes act unwisely or hurt someone's feelings. Whether these mistakes are unintentional or not, they can lead to rifts in our relationships; and ultimately damage both our own contentment, as well as the cohesion of our community. In this episode, Tenzin shares the power of apologizing as a roadmap for forgiveness, healing and reconciliation; and then leads a reflection on the impact of both giving and receiving a wholehearted apology.
This practice is aimed to help rehearse the compassionate actions we can take to increase their likelihood in everyday life
Dr. Joey Weber, who was raised in a Buddhist community in northern England, noticed that the focus in popular mindfulness programs was on the attentional training, and not as much emphasis was given to the “non-judgmental” aspect of mindfulness. He was so intrigued by this that he completed a PhD program devoted to the study of equanimity, the non-judgmental stance of mindfulness. His book, Mindfulness is Not Enough: Unlocking Compassion with Equanimity, is based on his research, and he also developed a six-week training program called Equanimity-based Compassionate Action.Join us for our conversation with Dr. Weber, as we delve into the meaning of equanimity, what this quality can bring to our lives, and how it can inspire our own compassionate action.
"Compassionate Action" is the discussion between Ruth Ann Lonardelli and Joy Gilfilen, the host of iChange Justice. In this New Year especially, people across all layers of our society and across all generations are facing different kinds of grief, trauma, distress, sadness, and emotional upheavals. The civic, social, and economic stress has been building up over several years post-pandemic. We've been reeling in the aftermath of social, political, police, and homeless conflicts, on top of weather disasters, being travel limited, and having our social and business networks closed down are disrupting our lives. In this episode I explore barriers to compassionate action and some guidelines to help us when we do take compassionate action.
We're exploring a common sentiment in the sustainability space: eco-guilt, or any feelings of shortfalls around our own environmental action. We're discussing the causes of these emotions, and how we can rationalize giving ourselves some grace around these self-defined benchmarks of being a “good” environmentalist. We're also revisiting an excellent example of collective and personal action working together to create change from Tanja Hester of Ep 158. Raising Our Vibration: Exploring Higher Consciousness Through Spiritual Practice
Raising Our Vibration PODCAST 10: RADICAL PEACE INTO COMPASSIONATE ACTION - Conflict in our world comes from inner tensions. To resolve these tensions takes persistent compassionate action within ourselves and with others over an extended period of time. This practice of compassion for self and others requires an openness to recognize the subconscious tensions within us and hold them within a deeper wider space of peaceful awareness again and again. This ability to be compassionate is based on a deeper level of abiding peace. A peace that is available right here, right now. Kevin and Stephen talk about transforming radical peace into compassionate action:1. Priming: taking time to pause and turn inwards2. Recognition: having a clear, vivid, felt sense of the peace that is ever present underneath all experiences.3. Integration of this abiding peace through compassion, by putting ourselves in other's shoes and holding them in a space of peace. To learn more about Subtle Energy Meditation, including the Raising Our Vibration book, ROV Meditation App, and 10-week Subtle Energy Meditation Course, visit our webpage: https://raisingourvibration.net

There's a long history of trying to convince folks to go vegetarian or vegan by argument, but Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) (or on FaceBook) is trying something different - emphasizing the sheer fun of it.
Host Nancy Kahn discussed practices of self compassion and exploring needs behind the actions of others we may view as “the enemy.” This show highlights the value in taking empowered action from a place of connection to our deepest values, and not from the thoughts stimulated by enemy images. This show can support listeners in moving beyond enemy images that block our ability to experience inner freedom and creativity to move into empowered compassionate action. This edition of Talk It Out Radio offers insights and practice with examples from the host and live callers. Host Nancy Kahn is live on air with listener calls and her commitment to support callers in learning practices and transforming enemy images.
