Nanowar of Steel — Dislike to False Metal (2023)

Interview by Kris PetersSince 2003 Italian comedic heavy metal outfit Nanowar Of Steel have been spreading the joys of metal with their infectious, over-the-top and often hilarious musical workings.Over six previous studio albums, Nanowar Of Steel have delivered an endless stream of musical magic, combining their laconic sense of humour with heavy music to devestating effect.Now, as the band prepares to unleash Dislike To False Metal on the world from March 10, Nanowar Of Steel have brought in the heavy hitters to hopefully allow their music to reach an even wider audience.Sabaton's Joakim Broden joins Nanowar on the parody track Pasadena 1994, about the year Italy lost the World cup Football final, plus Elaine's Madeleine Liljestam lends her vocals on the track Winterstorm In The Night.More than just a parody band, Nanowar Of Steel see themselves as more of a serious musical project that adds a touch of humour to their artform meticulously.Bass player Gattopanceri666 joined HEAVY to discuss things in more detail."For those of you who haven't heard about Nanowar Of Steel, we are a very serious band based in Italy," he introduced, "and we are doing this kind of serious music since 20 years already. We've got a new album coming out called Dislike To False Metal which really means we should dislike false metal, whatever that means, but at least don't kill it. We are against... let's replace the death to false metal part with dislike and make it more tolerant. That's the message."We press Gattopanceri666 on how he is feeling about the imminent release of Dislike To False Metal."I've been listening to this album for the last nine months," he sighed, "so I'm kind of bored of listening to it. I just hope the listeners won't get bored so quickly so we can get some revenues from streaming even in years to come. That's my hope; that's my wish for the album."In the full interview, Gattopanceri666 talks more about the songs on the album, maintaining humour in music, getting the balance right, using guest artists and what they brought to the sound, the writing process, the cover artwork and the myriad of things to be found, touring plans and more.

El grupo se fundó por iniciativa del cantante Pekka Ansio Heino (Leverage) y el guitarrista Emppu Vuorinen (Nightwish), proyecto al que unieron Tomppa Nikulainen (teclados) y Jason Flinck (bajo). En 2006 sacan su primer disco False Metal con el título del álbum ironizan sobre que la polémica de grupos como Manowar no reconocen como géneros de Heavy metal ni al Hard Rock ni al Glam metal. En seguida se nota que su estilo, es un Hard Rock melódico, con una importantísima aportación de los teclados, estribillos muy pegadizos y con grandes influencias de AOR americano. Con el primer disco se hicieron con un hueco en la escena musical de su país y posteriormente a nivel internacional. A pesar de que Pekka sigue con Leverage y Emppu con Nightwish, Brother Firetribe sigue adelante y sacan un nuevo sencillo ,que será anticipo de su siguiente disco, I Am Rock, el cual cosecha excelentes críticas por los sectores especializados y por el público. En marzo de 2008 sale a la luz su segundo álbum, Heart full of Fire, en el cual se encuentra un tema del mismo título en que participa la excantante del grupo Nightwish Anette Olzon. Re-lanzaron su primer disco con 2 temas adicionales y un video, además de cambiarle el título de False Metal por el de Break Out. En 2014 Brother Firetribe lanzaría a la venta su tercer disco de estudio titulado Diamond In The Fire Pit el cual cosecharía éxitos en Finlandia tales como "For Better Or For Worse" siendo este el único sencillo extraído de este álbum, "Love Is Not Enought" a su vez recibió buenas críticas y recepción. En 2017 lanzarían a la venta su cuarto álbum de estudio el cual lleva por título Sunbound El cual cuenta con sencillos como "Taste of a Champion" e "Indelible Heroes" contando con buena recepción crítica y comercial, este álbum cuenta con un sonido clásico de rock de los 80s y a su vez con mayor participación lírica de la guitarra. En 2020 se publicaría el primer sencillo de un aparente nuevo álbum el cual llevaría por título "Rock In The City". In this two-for-one episode, Weezee and Slammy try their first episode via ZOOM meeting, as the Coronavirus becomes more and more present in everyone's lives (recorded 3/29/20).  In this ep, the two discuss Weezer's Hurley AND Death To False Metal.   Released just about two months apart, Hurley was Weezer's eighth studio release and DTFM was intended as a collection of B-sides and demos--but Rivers Cuomo himself deemed "Weezer's 9th studio album".  Whatever the case, they both have their merits, and make for an interesting juxtaposition for a couple of albums by the same band released so close together.
