Hi there! Welcome to the Theory of Pets Podcasts! We started this podcast to uncover truths in the pet industry. Today I am joined by Robin Bennett. Robin Bennett has been a dog behavioralist trainer for over 30 years. After successfully running her own behavior training business, she started a business that teaches doggy daycares how to understand dog behavior and body language. Enter the Dog Gurus. After that she decided again to evolve her business into a recent venture called Ruffly Speaking! This is a platform where you get access to years of experience from dog behavior trainers and they also help educate dog owners like you and I make the best buying decisions for our pets. In today's podcast we talk about dog behavior and she drops some golden nuggets in certain scenarios that I felt would be valuable to touch on for you all. Give it a listen! Here are the questions I ask her today: Tell everyone a bit about you and your story and what you did before ruffly speaking How would your sessions go with clients, walk me through the individual clients and the questions you would ask them when you would work with individuals You also trained owners and employees how to run doggy daycares Why did you start doing that? Now let's start digging into ruffly speaking Why did you create it? What did you see that was missing that you could fulfill for people with your background With ruffly speaking what will people get that they don't normally have access to? What is the difference between ruffly speaking and a typical facebook group or a local dog trainer? What problem do you see in the pet ownership world it solving? What is the biggest thing you see that people miss when they get a dog and the dog does a behavior their owner does not like or approve of Tell us about the behavior of dogs from your experience and perspective What about them that makes it easy to understand them What about dog's behavior that you understand and teach people can how their dogs are going to behave What is your philosophy in dog training? Why do you have that approach? We've talked off camera about the “balanced training” approach (rewarding dogs when they do something right, and correcting them when they do something wrong), why do you think it isn't as effective as positive reinforcement What is wrong with “balanced training”? How should people seek out dog training Quick little checklist so they get it right How can people sign up for ruffly speaking? Where else can people find you on social media? I personally started using Ruffly Speaking's platform and it has a wealth of knowledge, I HIGHLY recommend if you are a dog owner that you sign up. It'll be the best investment in building your relationship with your pup. It's $19.99/mo. if you are interested, make sure to sign up using this link: https://tz203.isrefer.com/go/rufflyspeaking/topdogtips

Robin is a proud generalist who thought she was supposed to be an expert. Led by curiosity, she wandered and wondered, trying on a variety of career options and industries, hoping to find the right “one.” Her professional journey consists of wearing multiple hats across numerous industries, usually in sales, marketing, and strategy. Like many generalists, she struggled to find her “calling.” In a world of specialists, experts, influencers, and entrepreneurs, she kept sampling from the buffet of “possibility.” One of GoDaddy's repeat customers, she's been known to have more than a dozen domains at a time, each with its own business plan. Finally fed up with trying to figure out her true domain or “calling,” she decided to just be herself. She went back through numerous journals, career assessments, and personality tests and discovered three main themes: curiosity, enthusiasm, and creativity. She now uses her innate curiosity, broad experience, and enthusiasm to help widget-makers, manufacturers, industrial companies, and B2B sales organizations turn their subject matter expertise into marketing and messages that are creative, fun, and make their audiences feel good. Instead of trying to be an expert, she's embraced being a fan, someone who follows what she thinks is cool and exciting, whether it's a product, component, winemaker, poet, rock band, or something else that tickles her fancy. As a marketer, she looks at things the way a fan might look at them, saying to herself, “that's cool; people should know about that.” If she thinks your product, service, or brand is interesting, valuable, or awesome, she won't stop talking about it. She lives by the motto that if you're deeply interested, you'll be interesting. The field of medical genetics and genomics has a complex and troubling history vis-a-vis racist ideologies—Carl Linnaeus divided humanity into four “varieties” and Charles Darwin saw humans as genetically distinct races. And, although the field has come a long way since its beginnings, systemic racism lingers in its institutions and practices. On this month’s GenePod, Genetics in Medicine editors Kyle Brothers, MD, PhD, Robin Bennett, MS, CGC, and Mildred Cho, PhD, discuss the work that must be done to start addressing the eradication of systemic racism from scientific publishing. The authors propose eight principles that are both scientifically grounded and anti-racist in an effort to provide a foundation for enlightened policy development by publishers and editorial boards in genetics and genomics. Today's guest didn't always consider herself an entrepreneur, but after realizing that her approach to business does uniquely solve problems no one else could, she adopted the term. Or at least, kinda. Robin Bennett is an experience content writer, sales and marketing expert, and calls herself a Proud Generalist. The Founder of Verse and Vibe, she helps companies take their content writing to the next level, and encourages straight shooting language. No fluff, no false rapport building and no beating around the bush. These days, direct communication with a clear next step is key when we're drowning in content. How are you distinguishing your message from everybody else, including your competitors? Robin can help you find out. Reach out to Robin anytime at robin@verseandvibe.com. Morning Habits (0:00:00) Mornings can be hard. Some days, you wake up and feel like you could solve world peace and hunger by noon. Other days, the physical act of removing yourself from bed is asking way too much of you. “Just 5 more minutes” we tell ourselves as we hit the snooze button 13 times. Because this issue is so relatable for many of us, we've invited Melissa Eisler, professional leadership coach, onto the show this morning to discuss with us why mornings are so hard and what habits we should make to start our day off right. Navigating the Emergency Room (0:16:35) Lately, a visit to the doctor or to the emergency room is much more serious than it has been before. The national average wait time in the emergency room is about 90 minutes, but with coronavirus on the rise, those times could go up significantly very soon. How can we safely navigate the ER? To answer that question we've invited Michelle Nobles, a nuerohospitalist based in Charlotte, North Carolina, onto the show. Bare-Faced and Fearless (0:33:07) Obviously, there are a lot of issues we are dealing with right now, but you have to admit this social distancing has its advantages. You can wear PJ's at home all day, spend most of your time wrapped up in a blanket, and never have to wear any makeup. While you might be hard pressed to convince your friends that slippers are in style when life starts back up again, don't you wish you didn't have to spend so much time and money worrying about makeup? Here to convince us to go on a break from foundation is Jane Harkness. She is a freelance writer who focuses on small businesses, wellness, and women's issues who spent 6 months never wearing makeup in a bare-faced experiment. Dog Parks (0:50:34) For many dog owners, dog parks might seem like the best place to take your dog. It's the perfect place for your dog to exercise and socialize. Studies even show that in the last ten years there's been a 40% increase in dog parks across the nation. But are there downsides to dog parks? Here to tell us her ideas on the subject, is dog trainer and expert Robin Bennett. Finding Scholarships (1:05:39) By now, your high school seniors might have heard back from their universities of choice about whether or not they would receive a scholarship. But if your kid isn't one of the lucky recipients, don't worry. There are plenty of third-party scholarships available to them. They just require a little research to find. Camie Jacobs is a high school counselor with experience helping students be successful in their college careers and find scholarships. She joins us today to discuss where to find scholarships when kids don't receive financial aid from their future college. Donating Blood during COVID-19 (1:21:11) Just like all of us, the American Red Cross is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and trying to keep it from affecting the work that they do. Unfortunately, it has caused losses like they have never seen before. Despite their best efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy, about 1,500 blood drives have been cancelled in the past week. The Red Cross now faces of shortage of blood supply for hospital patients. Here to tell us how we can support their cause is Dr. Pampee Young, Chief Medical Officer for the American Red Cross.
Melissa Eisler gives tips for changing your routine, Michelle Nobles explains how to go to the ER, Jane Harkness discusses her bare-faced experiment, Robin Bennett explains the pros and cons of dog parks, Camie Jacobs teaches how to find good scholarships, Dr. Pampee Young discusses hoe COVID-19 affects blood donation.
Petrendologist Charlotte Reed and Michael Fleck, DVM, talk with Dr. John Huber, Chairman for Mainstream Mental Health, about the loving your pets too much with Robin Bennett about how to prevent dog fights at the dog park; and with award winning bloggers, Carol Bryant and Maggie Marton, about pet blogging for love and money.

According to well known US dog trainer Robin Bennett, breeders warn parents, “Don’t leave the dog alone with children, no matter how friendly the breed.” Veterinarians advise, “Never leave a dog and a child in the same room together.” Dog trainers explain, “All dogs can bite so supervise your dog when you have children over.” Everyone knows the drill. So why doesn’t it work? This short podcast reveals just some of the reasons why... Including a very personal story from Robin where she was left to 'supervise' her critically ill father in hospital and had no idea what she needed to do! Producer and longtime friend of Ace Frehley, Crazy Joe Renda stops by to share Ace Stories about everyone's favorite spaceman. Joe first came to prominence in KISS fan circles with the novelty song, 'Eugene' released under the moniker of Crazy Joe & The Variable Speed Band. The song would go down in KISSTORY as Ace Frehley's first musical project outside of the band as he's a co-writer and co-producer of the song. Joe also founded and ran North Lake Sound studio in White Plains, NY along with fellow songwriter Chip Taylor (known for ' Wild Thing', 'Rock Soldiers' and 'Angel of the Morning'). Joe is also the producer for prank phone call legends The Jerky Boys. Ace Stories with Crazy Joe Renda In this long-form conversation, Joe shares some incredible stories of hanging out with Ace Frehley and being around the business of KISS. Stories of the interpersonal relationships between Ace and the other members of the band are shared including the dynamic between the "2 camps" of Simmons and Stanley vs Criss and Frehley. Also included are Joe's recollections of Ace's decision to quit KISS and how Gene Simmons pleaded with Joe to attempt to keep Ace on as a member of the band. Other stories involving a testy meeting between Peter Criss and Eric Carr, loads of stories of Ace truly being a rock n' roll wild man and so much more including the story of how 'Eugene' was created and how it connects to KISS (not in the way you would expect). It's an hour-plus of jaw dropping stories about Jendell's favorite son. We hope you enjoy Ace Stories with Crazy Joe Renda and SHARE with a friend! Accept drummer Christopher Williams stops by this week to discuss his lifelong love affair with the Hottest Band in the Land. In this long-form talk, Williams talks about his discovery of KISS via the MTV Unplugged appearance in 1995. He also talks about the MTV Video Music Awards performance that the reunited band gave under the Brooklyn Bridge as the clincher in his fandom. Christopher is no ordinary KISS fan. In this hour-plus discussion he describes the scenario which led him seek and acquire one of Peter Criss' reunion era drum sets. It's a great story that has many twists and turns. He also relives his first KISS concert and how he had interactions with each band member throughout the set. Christopher Williams Aside from playing with metal legends ACCEPT, Christopher works steadily in numerous other musical endeavors including performances with a local group of musicians known as Blonder Than Hell. This group features bassist ET Brown, Williams, and Thee Rock N' Roll Residency founders (and former guests on this show) Jeremy Asbrock and Phillip Shouse. This KISS tribute is absolutely incredible and is not afraid to deliver the rarities that the official product shies away from. This year, they are performing a KISSMAS in July gig in Nashville, TN at Exit/In. This special show will feature the band in full makeup and costume performing, in their entirety, the Hotter Than Hell and Destroyer albums. It's sure to be a great night so join Chris and Aaron if you can. More info can be found HERE. In the spring of 1977, Robin Bennett Osborne ’81 received a moving letter from her grandfather, E. Lansing Bennett ’22, that convinced her to come to Princeton. Four years later, the two were pictured on PAW’s cover, marching arm-in-arm at the P-rade. (Season 2, Episode 14)
The guys are joined this week by filmmaker/guitarist Steve McClure to discuss the great new rock documentary Hair I Go Again; a film that follows the long journey of two middle aged guys attempting to put their 80's rock band back together, the twists and turns, highs and lows, and challenges they face. Along the way, the guys get an education in the form of advice from numerous 80's rock luminaries including The Killer Dwarfs, Lorraine Lewis (Femme Fatale), Warrant, Jason McMaster, Tesla, Jack Russell, Steve Blaze (Lillian Axe), and Ron Keel. They also get advice from media personalities such as Eddie Trunk and Luc Carl. Hair I Go Again Hair I Go Again was a long time coming as the film was crowd funded a few years ago while the guys were on their journey to reunite the band. As you'll see in the film, getting 5 guys back together again is not an easy task. In this talk, Steve McClure shares his take on the making of the movie including quitting his day job to fully invest in this project, the tension between he and his partner on this journey Kyle Kruger, and what it was like to throw all caution to the wind in an effort to find out what might have been. I'm glad I did. I searched hard rock in iTunes and a breakdown of Warrant's Dog Eat Dog with producer Michael Wagener popped up. Being a huge fan of that perfect record I downloaded it to give it a shot. Wagener offered great insight and nuggets I had never known. The two hosts asked GREAT questions and they played most of an album I haven't heard in years. I went back and started picking off things that interested me. What I found was nothing less than brilliant. I had about 2800 CDs at the time. Having been re/introduced to things I'd never heard before or in years I went straight to the web and started buying music as if I had all the money in the world. I don't have all the money in the world. But I don't care as I have about a hundred more CDs as a direct result of this show. Who needs food? Music feeds my soul. These guys conduct great interviews and have been a great resource for hearing old forgotten classics. Just as important is they've introduced me to a lot of great new music. It's a great blend of memory lane and discovery street. Keep it up guys. You have a new subscriber and I will click through before purchasing anything on Amazon from now on. For the fourth consecutive year, the Canadian Decibel Geek team of Wallygator Norton and Rich "The Meister" Dillon, the Hoser Heavy Metal Twins, return to the Decibel Geek airwaves. In what has become a yearly tradition in which regular weekly podcast hosts, Chris and Aaron take their Thanksgiving off and the Canadians host the episode, the duo from The Great White North present an episode jam-packed with music from Canadian artists. Hoser Heavy Metal Hour Vol4 Due to schedule alignment issues, mainly caused by a trip to Tokyo, the boys were unable to record with their planned guest host in time. As a solution, they reached out to some of their favorite Canadian bands and artists, some popular and some more underground, and had them choose the music for this hour-plus episode. You'll hear tracks by Refugee, Rush, Public Animal, April Wine, A Foot in Cold Water and more as chosen by artists like Brian Vollmer (Helix), Sarasin, Gerry McGhee (Brighton Rock), Diemonds, A Rebel Few, and Shock. Back in October of 2013, Chris and Aaron had a brainstorm. They noticed that many people like songs from big albums by big bands but when those bands go “out of fashion” with the mainstream, they release some great work and much of that work gets ignored by the general music listener. The idea of Buried Treasure was born. This week Aaron and Chris present Buried Treasure II; a collection of great songs from some of your favorite bands that you may have missed from albums released after mainstream success faded. This week we fulfill an interview wish that goes back to the beginning of the show; fitting for our 4 year anniversary. This week Aaron and Chris celebrate the 4 year anniversary of Decibel Geek with an in-depth conversation with Mark Slaughter. Currently promoting his new solo album produced by Michael Wagener, 'Reflections in a Rearview Mirror' Mark was kind enough to sit down in-person with Aaron, Chris, and Decibel Geek writer Billy Hardaway for a long-form talk on the new album, the history of Slaughter, and A LOT of discussion about his days working with Vinnie Vincent in the Invasion. Aaron and Chris put out a call a few weeks ago for listener questions for Mark and the listeners did not disappoint. Many of the questions made it into the interview including one that Mark deemed his favorite. The solicitor of that question wins an autographed print of Mark from the photoshoot for his new album. The photo was taken by friend of the show and past guest Chad Lee of Chad Lee Photography. Be sure to listen to the end because Mark gives you another opportunity to win a signed photo if you can be the first to submit an answer to feedback@decibelgeek.com. The Decibel Geek podcast wishes to thank Mark Slaughter for his time and his openness to everything that was asked. With a show that's been in existence for nearly 4 years and has covered numerous facets of rock and metal, you had to know this day would come. We think you'll like it anyway. This week Aaron and Chris set out to tackle a true challenge....finding songs from the genre known as Rap Rock that actually kick ass. This genre is picked apart and ridiculed by many rock and metal purists but your hosts aim this week to dig up some gems and prove that there's some good stuff even in midst of something they hate. Tracks from Rage Against the Machine, Clutch, Kid Rock, Incubus, Gwar, Body Count, The Deftones, Mudvayne and much, much more are included. We hope you'll listen with an open mind as we spin some rockin' riffs and righteous rhymes......otherwise, please come back next week. Dig it! We're back this week to talk about the second half of a very polarizing album. Chris and Aaron return this week with the second part of their discussion with producer Toby Wright for Albums Unleashed - Carnival of Souls. Covering the second half of this controversial KISS album, Toby shares his memories of the tracking and mixing of the songs including the Gene Simmons-sung 'In My Head,' which was written by Gene along with Scott Van Zen and Jaime St. James of Black n' Blue. In this section of the discussion, Wright remembers pushing Simmons and bandmate Paul Stanley to record harmony vocals in the vein of Alice in Chains members Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley; and how the attempt would fall short by comparison. Another track discussed in this hour-plus special is 'I Confess.' Wright reflects on a tense recording session involving a string section that was brought in to add a dark feel to the songs and how he had to get the classically-trained musicians to break convention to pull off the sound he was after. Other tracks covered in this Albums Unleashed special include the psychadelic-tinged 'In the Mirror,' the Black Sabbath-inspired track 'It Never Goes Away,' and one of the most unusual tracks in the KISS catalog; the Middle-Eastern sounding 'Seduction of the Innocent,' Most notably, however, is the discussion of the debut (and lone) KISS vocal of guitarist Bruce Kulick. This track had quite a history as Wright explains the numerous permutations it would take on during the tracking process (including a lead vocal take from Simmons). This track's autobiographical nature would play out as life would later imitate art in the form of the KISS reunion and guitarist Kulick and drummer Eric Singer would wind up unemployed. Toby Wright goes into great detail in this discussion of how Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley called a meeting during the overdub sessions for Carnival of Souls to break the news that they had been solicited with a multi-million dollar offer to put on the greasepaint and reunite with original KISS drummer and guitarist Peter Criss and Ace Frehley; respectively. The effect of the reunion announcement would have a catastrophic effect on the album; as it was immediately shelved by Mercury Records, leaked on the internet, and then, with very little fanfare, released by the record label in October of 1997. The Decibel Geek Podcast wants to thank Toby Wright for giving so much time in discussing a controversion, yet bittersweet, album in his massively successful discography. We hope you enjoy this 2 part Albums Unleashed special on KISS' Carnival of Souls. More Toby Wright! Official Website More COS Info! No Limits talks about domestic violence in Indianapolis with IMPD domestic violence detective Robin Bennett, and survivor Mattie Herald who now works with an intervention group.
The pet service industry is growing in leaps and bounds each day, especially with the economic changes and people out of work. Americans shell out over $40 billion each year to care for their pets. While the benefits of dog care and off leash dog play can be wonderful, it might not be the right business for you or the right place for your dog. Caring for people’s beloved pets at your facility requires business skills, animal skills, people skills and money. There are joys and risks to owning a day care and dropping your dog off for what you think will be a day of play and fun. Robin Bennett has been in the business for over 12 years and she’ll tell it all! More details on this episode MP3 Podcast - All About Day Care and Off Leash Dog Play - with Pia Silvani on PetLifeRadio.com
