Grand challenge in this episode: Glass of Sunshine About the Challenge The purpose of this project is to leverage a preexisting online professional development resource and its large following of SBA educators to create a more effective model of professional development where teachers engage in immersive experiences in agriculture, capture those experiences via the formats already used by Owl Pellets, and share them with their peers to develop an ever-growing community of practice around grand agricultural challenges founds within teachers' local communities and FANH careers. One of the primary goals of this project is to re-engage SBA educators in the challenges, technology, and work of their local agricultural community – making grand challenges local. Visit the Teach Grand Challenges website. About the Guest Shelby Ball is an agriculture teacher in central Florida and is a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!). She is currently teaching at the same high school where she attended as a student. She considers it one of her greatest honors to be able to serve the same program that helped shape her as a young adult. When not teaching, Shelby enjoys spending time with her dachshund Remington and binging Netflix.

My guest today is Amanda Walters.Mandy is a world traveler, a Florida Gator, storyteller, and Human Resources professional. Mandy grew up in the southern United States. Her father was a Southern Baptist minister turned hospice chaplain and her mother a special education teacher.Mandy is a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and has worked in HR for various organizations. During what she describes as her “quarter life crisis” she moved from the US to New Delhi, India, as a trailing spouse (her first time leaving the US!). Living in a different country was life-changing for her. She returned to the US but realized she wanted to live abroad again. In 2012, Mandy joined the US Department of State's Foreign Service as an HR Officer. She learned Russian and took her first assignment in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Later, she learned Portuguese and lived and worked in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she met the love of her life. Together they moved to Yangon, Myanmar (aka Rangoon, Burma), and are now in Frankfurt, Germany, and about to move back to the US.Mandy and I met through my work as a trainer for the Department of State. A few months ago at a training, the subject of podcasts was being discussed and I had the change to share about this podcast and my experience being a host. The very next day, as I was walking to work, I ran into Mandy on the sidewalk of a busy street in Bangkok. She blurted out, “I didn't know you were a Gator! And you used to be a chaplain!” I think I looked a bit taken off guard because she quickly followed up: “I'm listening to your podcast!” It was an awesome moment for me to run into someone in Bangkok listening to my podcast! And even better, it led us to conversations about Mandy being a guest and sharing these pieces of her journey.Mandy shares about her journey of coming out, the courage she gained by others who led the way, coming out as gay in families and settings where it wasn't easy. Mandy also shares about the recent loss of her cousin, one of the people in her life who went before her, making the path a little less difficult. And then, the loss of her father, going back home and giving the eulogy in the church where she was told she was wrong for being her. There are a number of themes in Mandy's stories and through each theme she demonstrates amazing courage, forgiveness, and proactive grieving. Mandy, thank you SO much for your willingness to share your stories. For sharing the insights from some sad and difficult times of loss, most poignantly, the loss of your father. I know people will be touched and inspired by your authenticity, vulnerability, and wisdom. And I know your dad would be very very proud of you.Disclaimer: Disclaimer that Mandy's opinions and experiences are her own and in no way represent the policies and opinions of her employer.Read Mandy's blog at http://www.myplaidpants.com/Make Life Less Difficult

Today, we are happy to be speaking with Matt Wolff, the Founder, and CEO of the Ticket Time Machine! In this episode, Matt gets into how his niche is taking him in the opposite direction from where the rest of the market is going. We hope you enjoy listening to today's captivating conversation with Matt Wolff! Bio: Matt is the Founder & CEO of Ticket Time Machine™, a souvenir ticket company that specializes in commemorative keepsakes. They are keeping the printed memory alive with their commemorative keepsakes and enhancing the fan experience with their digital experiences. He grew up in Marlboro, NJ, and graduated from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) in 1998 with his twin brother. He got married on Leap Day (2/29/20) and currently lives in Lake Worth, FL with his wife and cats. He has 3 Nieces and 3 Nephews and likes to spoil them whenever he visits. Ever since graduating college, Matt has been going to sporting events and concerts non-stop. He has traveled the world (over 20 countries and 41 states) watching sporting events, trying new food, and listening to music. Matt's journey Many years ago, Matt started his sales career by selling ticket printing services for Worldwide Ticket Craft. After six or seven years, he left the ticketing world to find a new sales opportunity and started selling anti-money laundering software. About four years later, he was at a no-hitter Marlins game with a digital ticket when they announced that anyone who wanted a printed ticket could get one from the box office. He asked them to customize his ticket to say the game was a no-hitter, and they said they could not, even though Matt knew they could. That very day, Ticket Time Machine was born, and about a year later, Matt quit his job to go all-in on his souvenir-ticketing business. Covid Matt gave his notice about three months before Covid hit. Even with a year of lost sales, he would not think twice about making the same decision again because without having had a year with no pressure to sell anything, he would not be where he is right now. A keepsake Offering a souvenir-collectible item that was functional and useful as a keepsake for events, proved successful, even if it was not used for admission. Matt's goal Matt wants to become the Ticketmaster of souvenir tickets! When he started Ticket Time Machine, he set the goal that by 2025, he will have a Ticket Time Machine Suite in the swamp. Matt's ambition Even though he is a solopreneur, Matt has tech and silent partners, and he surrounds himself with a network of mentors and others helping him get to where he wants to go. His ambition is to become part of the international market. Revenue Matt's revenue for 2022 is 10x what it was in 2021, and he hopes to go 10x again in 2023! Getting everything done Matt has some things that have to get done and other things he would like to do. He does a lot of multi-tasking and tends to push things around a bit, but he always ensures that whatever is most important gets done first. Mental health Matt's number one rule for mental health is that he never argues with his body. So, if he feels tired during the day, he stops doing whatever he is doing and takes a nap. He has experienced depression before, so he is aware that he needs to take care of himself and find the time to do things that make him happy. He also cares about others and likes to take care of them too. Customer service Matt believes that all the various aspects of his excellent customer service have led to his success in sales. Building a company culture Building a healthy and sustainable company culture requires everyone to be flexible until the right way gets figured out. Regardless of the culture and size of the company, everyone must always get treated well. Hello everyone and welcome back to The Criminal Justice Evolution Podcast. Thank you so much for the support. This amazing company is helping keep our criminal justice professionals / military personnel safer with their mobile threat technology. This application-based technology is a must-have for your organization. Detecting illicit drugs, explosives and now COVID-19. Check out their link at www.cjevolution.com I am very excited to have Bridget Truxillo on the show. She is the first guest I have had on the podcast in a long time and it was an honor talking with her. SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE: David III (Bridget's son) stopped in to say hi and wave. =) Bridget Truxillo is the Founder and CEO of Protective Wellness. Bridget knows the challenges law enforcement officers face, both outside and inside their agencies based on her experiences as a Deputy Sheriff in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida. Bridget started out in Patrol, but very quickly transferred to the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit (NOCU), and also became the only female member of the SWAT team. During her time in the NOCU, Bridget routinely conducted undercover buys of narcotics and effectuated many arrest and search warrants as a result of her undercover operations. While on the SWAT team, Bridget participated in serving search warrants, active shooter and hostage situations, competed twice in SWAT Round-up International (an International SWAT competition), as well as many hundreds of hours of training. Although being a Deputy Sheriff allowed Bridget to serve the public, Bridget realized she wanted to find a way to serve the law enforcement and first responder community directly so she left law enforcement to attend law school as a means to glean the knowledge and skills necessary for this purpose. After 13+ years practicing law in civil litigation, Bridget was able to curate a unique business dedicated to representing and supporting law enforcement officers and first responders. Bridget is a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!) with a B.S. degree in Environmental Horticulture (yes, she really likes plants), and the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Miami, FL with a J.D. Bridget is licensed to practice law in Texas, Florida, New York and Louisiana, and lives in Houston, TX with her beautiful, smart, and fun husband and three kids. But let's be honest, the four have drifted apart. The NFL and NBA have clearly separated from the pack, and major league baseball and the NHL have been struggling to keep up with the top level growth. Not only that, they've had a bevy of sports attacking them from behind. Soccer has grown in the US, with the MLS entering it's 23rd year and adding successful expansion teams each year. Lacrosse and Rugby continue to grow domestically. But the NHL still holds seat #4 in US-based team sports. The ratings for this years Stanley Cup playoffs are the highest they've been since 1994, despite the lack of many major market teams. Rangers and Islanders gone… that means no new York market. Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia…gone gone gone. But in Carolina, Colorado, Columbus, Dallas, St. Louis and San Jose each market set local ratings records. The reason for the spike in ratings – drama. We all love drama, and while the first two rounds of the NBA playoffs saw chalk results with best teams sweeping lesser teams. The Stanley Cup playoffs were just the opposite. The first two rounds included 34 one-goal games, 15 overtime contests, and five Game 7s.The Columbus Blue Jackets swept the Eastern Conference #1 seed Tampa Bay Lightning out of the playoffs in the first round. Tampa tied the NHL record for regular season wins and failed to win a single game in the postseason.
