REST, OMEGA 3 FATS, & STRENGTH TRAINING! - FULL GUIDE ON STRENGTH TRAINING AND WHY IT IS A MUST FOR YOUR HEALTHY FUTURE! w/ Rashaun
Welcome to a transformative episode of the Created To Thrive podcast, where we'll explore the power of recognizing and replacing unhealthy ways of coping in times of stress or difficulty. Join me and my friend Lisa Pinney as we have an honest conversation about how we had to recognize our own unhealthy ways of trying to find comfort and learn to replace then with healthy ones, so that we can all live happier, more fulfilling lives. We are both trauma-informed life coaches, and this summer Lisa and I are talking about emotional health issues and how they are important for our spiritual growth. Today we are continuing our conversation about when we face stress or painful situations, we have a tendency to run away from something, or run to something to find comfort, and how our bodies give physical cues that we need to pay attention to. It can be very tempting to turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms like binge eating, drinking, shopping, isolating ourselves or numbing ourselves in someway to cope. However, these methods only provide temporary relief and can keep us stuck and often lead to long-term negative consequences. In today's episode, we will share some practical tips and strategies for you to develop healthy coping strategies that promote personal growth and confidence. We want to help you build resilience and experience inner peace, joy and rest. If you find this podcast helpful, would you please share it with someone who needs encouragement and empowerment to thrive in all aspects of life? Also, please go to apple podcast and leave me at review and rating. This helps me know that this podcast is making a difference and helps others become aware of it as well. Thank you in advance. I remember as a kid thinking, “When I grow up I'm going to spoil my kids and be the coolest mom.” Do you feel me? Maybe you said this too. Now that I'm a parent though I realize that is the worst thing I could do for my kids. Spoiling literally means ruining and it definitely doesn't help our children in the long run. It's not our job as a parent to be the cool mom or dad and be their friend. It's our job to do the work and sometimes the work is hard but in the long run our kids will thank us for it. In this episode we look at why contribution is so important and how it helps build true confidence! Love Lighthouse podcast is about waking up and living the life you were meant to live! Rose expert Daniel Myhill is treasurer of the 350-member Rose Society and national collection holder for persica roses. Unusually for a HortWeek podcast, he's not a professional horticulturist, but he is an example of a new passion for roses among younger people. The geotechnical engineer says myths about roses being difficult to look after need scotching. One of his mentors, Chris Warner, is an example of a breeder of modern healthy roses."His mantra is breeding 'healthy roses' - he'll look at the plant overall. If there's a disease on the leaf, that's it, he'll bin it because it doesn't meet his high standards. And that mantra and that ethos has done wonders for breeding healthy which require less intervention."But Myhill is critical of some other roses named after celebrities, which he says may not be of the best quality and could put people off long-term.The YPHA member has a burgeoning side career doing talks. He highlights striped and other novelties as trends and maintains that healthier roses and, of course, the persica, are the future. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

With climate change warming the oceans, coral reefs remain some of the most vulnerable ecosystems. Keeping an eye on them can be time-consuming and expensive, since it requires divers to do spot-checks to see if the reefs are bustling, lively environments or if they are degrading into abandoned neighborhoods. But some researchers are increasingly tuning in to how reefs sound to monitor the corals' health and maybe even make them more resilient. In this episode of The Future of Everything, WSJ's Danny Lewis explores how listening to reefs may be the next frontier in trying to save them. In this ongoing series on building strong communities, we've already taken a look at the buildings and infrastructure that are more conducive to regenerative living and connected populations, but I want to return to a broader range of contexts and applications from around the world in this episode. Much like the first session from this series with Zach Weiss in which he profiled amazing examples from across the globe of communities who have come together to achieve incredible transformations of their ecosystems through landscape hydrology restoration, there are so many case studies to draw from.In my own travels I've witnessed inspiring groups of people who've overcome massive disadvantages such as lack of access to materials, funds, and antagonistic governments by banding together in their common vision of a better life and future. Some of the most notable projects I remember from an earlier stage in my work when I designed and built natural homes. There were technical skill training programs for single mothers and disadvantaged youths to give them higher wage job opportunities when I lived on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. A few of the graduates of that program worked side by side with me on natural building projects and ran restaurants that I frequented. In that same area I worked with a clinic that also had a low cost home building program which worked with the residents around them to identify the most vulnerable people living there to build stable housing for. In Senegal my Dutch clients worked with their local fishing community to create communal meeting spaces near the dilapidated fishing docks and establish a fresh food market run by women at the entrance of the town. Here in Spain I've visited a hotel and ranch that are working with local authorities to manage the forests in their area to reduce fire risk by harvesting discarded wood to turn into mushroom substrate, an enterprise that also works with at-risk youth from Barcelona to give vocational training and has also hired from that group. So many of my collaborators and clients from around the world have exemplified community collaboration and outreach and I've often wondered if there's a playbook that one could access to begin the nuanced process of bringing people together to work towards common goals.Luckily, the new book by Dr James Gruber called Building Community: Twelve Principles for a Healthy Future does exactly that, and I reached out to the author (who prefers to go by Jim) to get his take on the steps in this process. The book profiles tons of exceptional examples of community projects from around the world. Some of which Jim has studied and others of which he was involved with directly and helped to facilitate in his role as a community consultant. In this interview we talk about some of the important considerations when first approaching a community based project. Jim outlines many of the key steps that nearly all of the case studies he's seen have in common and are not to be skipped if long term success is what you're after, and he shares inspiring anecdotes from his facilitation role and observations of this process unfolding organically in different places. He also gives insight into his toolbox of leadership strategies meant to guide newcomers of community development to help ensure that your project gets started on the right foot. Oh and a quick bonus for those of you who really want to dive deeper into community building, my good friends at New Society who published this book are offering a giveaway for listeners of this show. Just stick around till the end of this episode where I'll tell you just how you can get a free copy of Building Community for yourself. A little disclaimer, I had a short delay on my side of the connection in the beginning of this interview so you'll hear me clumsily interrupt Jim a few times at the start. Luckily it doesn't last for too long.

All couples have disagreements, misunderstandings and arguments. The quality of your relationship is in how well you resolve, let go and get back into living in the present moment. A couple's ability to repair their conflict is so important, not in their ability to avoid it. Avoiding it is very unhealthy as problems build, patterns are formed, resentment builds, and a fracture occurs in a relationship. In time this affects the level of love and intimacy, and damage can be irreparable. Successful conflict resolution sets aside the regrettable incident when it's worked thru and leaves it in the past. On the other hand, repair may be unsuccessful, in which case it may amplify the problem and continue to be the source of negativity and resentment into the future. Learning how to do it differently is crucial for a long term relationship and an Empowered Marriage. Episode 40 of the Fit Father Project Podcast is about reclaiming health and how to use nutrition, exercise, and the right mindset to regain your vitality. In this episode, you'll meet Kevin, a 51-year-old father of seven (and grandfather of two) who is no stranger to the challenges that come with a busy life, schedule, and family. Four of Kevin's kids came after a reversed vasectomy in 2007 and, eventually, chasing around young kids and dealing with work and life led to exhaustion and burnout. Kevin was doing a lot of soul-searching … then his son was involved in a massive car accident. Long days and nights spent at the hospital led Kevin down a path that would change his life forever. In this episode you'll learn: How Kevin and his son went about reclaiming health together. How he found solutions regardless of what the obstacles were. How he honed his nutrition with water, fasting, and supplementation. How he started to feel like Spider-Man. How he got back on track after an injury derailed his progress. What the Fit Father Brotherhood has meant to him. And so much more! Food journalist and author Mark Bittman explores the history of humankind’s relationship to food in his latest book, "Animal, Vegetable, Junk: A History of Food, from Sustainable to Suicidal,” and argues that the development of agriculture has shaped today's public health, climate change and social justice crises. Bittman believes that agriculture requires a cultural and political reckoning with how it has "driven exploitation and injustice, slavery and war” to tackle the damage it’s caused. Bittman joins us now to talk about his latest book and how to transform our agricultural systems to reclaim a healthy, just future.

The psychologist Walter Mischel was a professor at Stanford University in the late 1960s and early 1970s who did a series of studies on delayed gratification. Mischel gathered a group of 4-6-year-old children and gave each child a marshmallow. He told them that he was leaving the room for 15 minutes and if the marshmallow was still there when he returns he would give them another marshmallow. When he did further studies on these same children twenty years later, he found that those who were able to delay gratification and not eat the marshmallow when they were children had, when they grew up, much higher S.A.T. scores, were much healthier, and were more financially and socially successful. Hey there, mama! Let me ask you, after you set a goal does the motivation start to wane over time? Do you start to hear a familiar voice that says: "I know how this is going to go: you're going to try really hard, you'll do really well for a while, then something will happen and you'll stop... ...You know this isn't going to work. You're going to fail." Eventually you decide that if failure is inevitable, you might as well just fail right now. You fail ahead of time. Instead of 'wasting' all the time, energy, resources to reach a goal, you might as well just get a head start on failing and do it now, right?!? NO! You are looking to your past for evidence on how things will play out in the future. This seems logical, but it's the worst way to reach a goal. This podcast episode is how to connect with your future self - the one who HAS reached all the goals - and live into THAT energy to get what you want. Not the past. We talk about how to do that on this show so you can change your future into something exciting! I'll see you inside. Xo, Janeen For show notes: www.janeenalley.com/87

So with that being said, here is my interview with The Yugas author Joseph Selbie.

Bill Maher and Steven Colbert become the first honorees on the GrowthBusters podcast’s “Wall of Excellence.” You’ll find out why in this episode. We want to thank and celebrate influencers who help alert the public that we are in overshoot, demonstrate sustainable living in their own lives, or help educate the public about important ways we can shrink our footprints. New co-host Erika Arias introduces herself. She is very interested in the voluntary child-free choice and hopes to do research in this area in the future. She shares a clip from a recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher about how it’s actually good news that millennials are having less sex and therefore fewer children. Maher is, of course, famous for being bold enough to make “politically incorrect” statements, but Dave thinks talking about overpopulation is finally becoming politically correct after a few decades of “population taboo.” Maher celebrates the declining birth rate in the over-developed world because it is the single most effective thing you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. See this Lund University report for the detail: The Four Lifestyle Choices That Most Reduce Your Carbon Footprint. On the other hand, Senator Mike Lee thinks having more babies will solve climate change. And even CNN prime time host Chris Cuomo gets some criticism here for painting population contraction as a loss of human potential. Dave finds it astonishing that even some very smart people are not aware that we are in overshoot. Also in this episode, Dave thought he recalled the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest estimate of the average cost to raise a child in the U.S. is $237,000. We looked that up after recording this episode and the most recent figure we could find is $233,610, a 2015 figure announced in January, 2017. NOTE: We’re looking for a podcast producer, or at least a podcast editor, to help out. Comment here or send us an email. LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: New Rule: Masturbate, Don’t Procreate - Bill Maher Are Millennials Having Less Sex Than Older Generations? Will you be able to feed your family in ten or fifteen years? Mass starvation in industrialized countries due to climate change – in the near future – is not something we read or hear about. But it’s a real probability, according to Michael Brownlee, author of Taking Back Our Food Supply: How to Lead the Local Food Revolution to Reclaim a Healthy Future. In this fascinating conversation Brownlee explains that not only is the global industrial food system the largest contributor to climate change; it also will not be able to feed us as we weather the storm. In the face of this, Michael believes “we need to stop participating in the current system, and build regional, localized food systems…. Building our own regional food system is a matter of life and death.” And that involves much more than farmer’s markets and CSAs. Brownlee also wrote The Local Food Revolution: How Humanity Will Feed Itself in Uncertain Times, published in 2015. He and partner Lynette Marie Hanthorn have launched the online Local Food Academy, to identify, train and support leaders of the local food revolution. The newest book, Taking Back Our Food Supply, will be available in book stores beginning around Earth Day (April 22, 2019). Michael Brownlee aptly described our situation in this paragraph from The Local Food Revolution: “Today we are living in a moment of historic transition. We are moving from a food and farming system that erodes soil, wastes water, diminishes biodiversity, wastes fossil fuels, spews carbon, relies on mechanization, modifies genes, pollutes water and air, poisons the land, depletes the spirit, destroys community, and creates economic disparity ... to a food and farming system that restores and rebuilds soil, recycles and conserves water, increases biodiversity, sequesters carbon, produces its own energy, relies on human labor, breeds for resilience, saves seeds, purifies the water and the air, heals the land, feeds the spirit, builds community, and creates economic parity." Audition to become a co-host of the GrowthBusters podcast. Dr Patterson will review the background to the pharmaceutical crisis and the different ways that companies are approaching the issues. Looking forward, the picture is less rosy with reduced research and development productivity coupled with increasing pre-registration data demands from regulators and burgeoning costs. Taken together with major products losing patent protection and the need for health care costs to be kept under control, the current business model is under threat. Dr Patterson will review the background to the crisis and the different ways that companies are approaching the issues.
