Es geht also.
Le groupe Garbage est de retour avec un tout nouveau single intitulé "There's No Future In Optimism", premier extrait de leur prochain album studio ‘'Let All That We Imagine Be The Light''. À la veille de son retour sur scène (dont le festival Rock Werchter ), Green Day a dévoilé un nouveau single surprise, "Smash It Like Belushi". In August 1995, Microsoft released a new operating system - Windows 95 – following one of the computer industry's biggest and most expensive marketing campaigns. Queues formed outside shops at midnight as people around the world waited to be among the first to buy it. The new software was designed to be more user friendly, easier to understand and aimed at ordinary people not professional programmers. Connecting to the internet would also be more straightforward. More than 40 million CD Rom copies were sold in the first year, introducing a boom in personal home computing. Sarah Leary who demonstrated the software on launch day – alongside Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and US talk show host Jay Leno – talks to Jane Wilkinson. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Photo: Bill Gates at the Windows 95 launch. Tim and David look at the launch of Windows 95, what it means for the tech world at the time, and the fact that it was 30 years ago. Plus Steam OS news, Gaming on PC, Nvidia. and much more.
Brad's back from Western North Carolina, so it's time for a casual debriefing on being out there for two and a half weeks dealing with the Hurricane Helene aftermath, with a focus on all sorts of technical subjects like portable lighting strategies, acquiring and hooking up a generator in a hurry, making sense of the wiring layouts in older houses, remote work with almost no connectivity, dehumidifying and remediating a flooded basement, and, yes, some of the sillier computing artifacts that emerged in the course of the cleanup. The links for emergency and offline maps we mentioned that were sent in by a listener:http://cellmapper.net/https://atlas.eia.gov/apps/all-energy-infrastructure-and-resources/explorehttps://organicmaps.app/ Support the Pod!
