Obi-Wan Kenobi is an American television miniseries created for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and stars Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, reprising his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series follows Kenobi as he sets out to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) from the Galactic Empire, leading to a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen). The project originated as a spin-off film written by Hossein Amini and directed by Stephen Daldry, but it was reworked as a limited series following the commercial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). McGregor was confirmed to be starring in August 2019, and Deborah Chow was hired to direct a month later. Production was scheduled to begin in July 2020, but the series was put on hold in January 2020 because Lucasfilm was unsatisfied with the scripts. Joby Harold was hired to rewrite the series and serve as showrunner in April 2020, executive producing with Chow, McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan. Additional casting took place in March 2021, with co-stars such as Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Jimmy Smits, James Earl Jones, and Christensen reprising their prequel trilogy roles. Filming began by May 2021 in Los Angeles, using StageCraft video wall technology, and wrapped by September. Natalie Holt composed the score, while Star Wars film composer John Williams wrote the main theme. # The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on May 27, 2022. The subsequent four episodes were released weekly until June 22. The series received positive reviews; critics praised the action sequences, McGregor and Christensen's performances and Chow's direction, but some criticized the writing. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)—in which the Jedi were destroyed by Order 66 and Obi-Wan Kenobi's apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, became the Sith Lord Darth Vader—Kenobi is in hiding on the planet Tatooine, watching over Anakin's son Luke, when he is called on a mission to rescue Anakin's daughter, Leia, after she is kidnapped by the Galactic Empire's Jedi-hunting Inquisitors in a plot to draw Kenobi out. This leads to a confrontation between Kenobi and Vader. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi watches over young Luke Skywalker and evades the Empire's elite Jedi hunters during his exile on the desert planet Tatooine. Part I When agents of the Empire pose a new threat, Obi-Wan Kenobi emerges after years of hiding. Part II On a dangerous crime-ridden world, Obi-Wan becomes a target. It's a whole host of content! This may very well be the biggest memorial day yet after 2 straight years of really nothing! But with the release of Top Gun: Maverick in theaters, the debut of the long awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ and the return of the long awaited fourth season of Stranger Things, its a content competition to see what can get viewers eyeballs! First up is Top Gun: Maverick, the long in the making and then releasing sequel to the 1986 classic starring Tom Cruise, returning to the cockpit as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, now in the mentor position as he has to train a new generation of pilots to carry out a dangerous mission, among them Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller) the son of Maverick's late co-pilot Goose. Then we have Obi-Wan Kenobi, an oddity in the Star Wars streaming canon fodder in that it's been a project long in the making, as fan demand for the return of the beloved Jedi knight is really what prompted this into existance. Based off the original movie script by Hossein Amini, adapted into television form by Stuart Beattie & Joby Harald and directed by "The Mandalorian" season 1 director Deborah Chow, the series sees the return of Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi knight as he undertakes a mission to rescue Princess Leia when she is captured by Inquisitors in a ploy to pull him out into the open. And finally, we have the return of Stranger Things, another show that fell victim to Covid and has been several years since its last season. But with the very much increased budget, the extra time taken to give attention to the scripts, the massive amount of story contributing to each episode and a sense of a return to familiarity in the sort of combined comfort and thrills the Duffer bros are able to inject into the show, it feels like the return of an old friend. Which of this content will win the weekend and what will be forgotten? Today on the show, we're overjoyed to be joined by the talented Hossein Amini, writer of 2011's cult smash thriller Drive. Based on the 2004 James Sallis novel of the same name, and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive told the story of a stuntman by day and getaway driver by night, whose dual lives collide after he strikes up a friendship with his neighbour, Irene (Carey Mulligan). From there, Hossein's screenplay submerged audiences in a dangerous, hyper-stylised LA criminal underworld, strapping viewers into the passenger seat next to a captivatingly unknowable protagonist, simply named the Driver (Ryan Gosling). If you've read the novel, you'll know that Hossein had quite a task taking the lyrical, very interior prose and plot of the book, and turning it into a movie. Luckily, the Iranian-born storyteller is a bit of a master when it comes to adaptation: from 1997's The Wings of the Dove to his 2014 directorial debut The Two Faces of January, Hossein relishes the task of taking a story from page to screen, adding a subtle sprinkle of his personality and past to the recipe along the way.Across an engrossing chat, Hossein explains why Drive is in fact a fairy tale. We talk about what the film expresses about our culture of violence, why an early draft of the film featured the death of Irene, and how his storytelling habits were shaped by a childhood in the shadow of his parent's divorce and the Iranian revolution. We also get into the meaning of The Driver's Scorpion jacket, how the film's iconic elevator sequence came to be, and the writer's dark, gritty vision for the upcoming Obi Wan Kenobi TV series that he worked on briefly before stepping away from the project.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. How can unfilmables enhance the experience of your script? AKA Why your screenwriting guru is wrong In this episode, Chas and Stu deep dive into the controversial area of “unfilmables” — those alleged screenwriting sins, where a writer writes a line that (apparently) cannot be seen or heard. But many produced spec scripts use unfilmables to great effect. So how and why do they “get away with it”? In this first part, they look at unfilmables in micro moments: to describe locations, set (or change) the mood/tone, bring performances to life, and communicate certain types of humour. To that end, they breakdown into examples from LETHAL WEAPON, MY BRIDESMAID IS A BITCH, HEREDITARY, FLEABAG, KILLING EVE, A QUIET PLACE, KILLING THEM SOFTLY, SHARP OBJECTS, SPARTAN, THE NICE GUYS, DRIVE, THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING MISSOURI, TREE OF LIFE, and MICHAEL CLAYTON. The screenwriter Hossein Amini meets the playwright and director Conor McPherson. Hossein Amini co-created and co-wrote the TV series McMafia, which focused on Russian gangsters and global organised crime. His screenplay for the film The Wings of the Dove, based on the novel by Henry James and starring Helena Bonham Carter, won an Oscar nomination. His other screenwriting credits include Drive, which starred Ryan Gosling. Conor McPherson's play The Weir, first staged in 1997, was voted one of the most important plays of the 20th century in a National Theatre poll, and has been performed around the world. More recently Bob Dylan's representatives invited him to create a stage-work featuring Dylan songs. The resultant play, Girl from the North Country, was widely acclaimed in London, and opened earlier this year in New York, where the New York Times described McPherson as 'perhaps the finest English-language playwright of his generation'. Producer Clare Walker
Stevie hosts the Ryan Goslin vehicle Drive (2011) and is joined by spoilermen $Mikey, Pappy and Josh. They are all real human beings. ************** Drive is a 2011 American action drama film directed by the Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn. The screenplay, written by Hossein Amini, is based on James Sallis' 2005 novel Drive. The film stars Ryan Gosling as an unnamed Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver. He quickly grows fond of his neighbor, Irene (Carey Mulligan) and her young son, Benicio. Her debt-ridden husband, Standard (Oscar Isaac), is released from prison and hires him to take part in what turns out to be a botched million-dollar heist that endangers their lives. Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, and Albert Brooks play supporting roles. Producers Marc Platt and Adam Siegel optioned Sallis's novel, published in 2005, after Siegel read a review from Publishers Weekly. Adapting the book proved to be challenging for Amini, as it had a nonlinear narrative. Gosling, one of Platt's top casting choices, eventually signed on for the lead, as he wanted to star in an action-orientedproject. Gosling played a pivotal role in the film's production, which included hiring Refn as director and Beth Mickle as production designer. Newton Thomas Sigel oversaw the principal photography, which started on September 25, 2010, was shot on location in various parts of Los Angeles, and ended on November 12. Before its September 2011 release, Drive had been shown at a number of film festivals, including the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation. Refn won the festival's Best Director Award. The film received widespread praise for its direction, performances, visuals, action sequences, and musical score. However, some critics were appalled by its graphic violence and found it potentially detrimental to the film's box office success. Several critics listed Drive as one of the best films of 2011, and it received various accolades, including Best Sound Editing nomination at the 84th Academy Awards.

On this episode we turn to a baby podcaster himself, Dan of Get Reel Movies, a film site that caters to millenials. We ask him his take on Edgar Wright's version of the stoic getaway driver in BABY DRIVER, under the assumption that the hosts of this show are just too damn old to get it. However a love for Ryan Gosling and the film DRIVE knows no age barriers as we rave about that film and then get into the meat of modern online film criticism: which driver has the best playlist for conducting cool chase sequences? All of this and we find out that Canadians aren't that nice in the latest episode of ORIGINAL REMAKE. In the first Godzilla movies, The King Of The Monsters was actually just a guy in a suit, but now with the advent of modern SFX, men stomping on miniature cities are no longer required. But if they were, Gareth Edwards would be the man shouting "Punch the water tower!" and "Drop kick that battleship!", as he's the director of the new reboot of Toho's beloved scaley scoundrel. He's joined in the Empire Podcast this week by Two Faces Of January's Viggo Mortensen (actor) and Hossein Amini (director), who talk about everything from The Parthenon to Montesquieu.
