Guided by complex regulatory and trademark requirements, brand teams have often had to sacrifice creativity for compliance. Traditional naming methods, unchanged for decades, alongside crowded markets have led to shrinking white space, high attrition rates and weakened brand strategies. In this episode, Joe Daley, president of Addison Whitney, powered by Syneos Health, explores how Ari, the industry's first AI-driven naming platform, is breaking through these barriers. By integrating real-time regulatory and trademark screening, Ari expands creative white space within set guardrails, empowering deeper strategic exploration and compliance like never before possible — reducing risk while increasing creativity. I sit down with Joe Daley and his son Travis to discuss the hobby over the last 35 years, the evolution of products and collectors, Joe's playing days staring down Bobby Orr on a rush at him, playing with Bobby Hull, the impact on an LCS of having a pro team leave the city....and then return 15 years later and much more. This one is close to my heart as their shop was one of my first LCS's back in the late 80's and we have been friends since then. VJC Q&T podcast host Russell Schmidt has known pianist/organist/composer Michael Kocour for more than a dozen years. A nationally-renown educator, Mike is the Director of Jazz Studies at Arizona State University. Additionally, he is a recording artist for Origin Records, releasing a solo piano album, East of the Sun, on that label’s OA2 imprint earlier this year. In early summer, Mike sat down with Russ to partake in spirited, engaging discussions on jazz, music education, and the nature of creativity. In this second of two podcasts together, they discussed the sometimes-random nature in discovering one’s passions and influences, the deeper truths revealed on vinyl records, and even the lengthy path to be travelled just to join a school’s “stage band”. Winnipeg-based author and journalist Geoff Kirbyson is our guest on episode 34 of the PHA Podcast and we'll take an in-depth look at the 1978-79 Winnipeg Jets Avco Cup Championship team. After the interview with Geoff we've included some great insight on that team by Jets center Terry Ruskowski, who was our guest episode 16. Geoff Kirbyson is a life-long Jets fans, who wrote a fabulous book about the WHA's greatest line - The Hotline - Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson and Bobby Hull. When Ulf and Anders left the Jets for the NHL New York Rangers in 1978, all seemed lost for the Jets. However, the arch-rival Houston Aeros folded in the summer of '78 and the Jets were able to obtain many of their top players, including Ruskowksi, Rich Preston, Morris Lukowich and Scott Campbell. How this team overcame their differences to eventually to defeat Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers to become WHA champions is truly an inspirational story. To celebrate to the 40th anniversary of the 1978-79 Jets, Geoff has organized a reunion and a banquet that fans can attend on June 1, 2019. Please see the show notes for details or visit Geoff Kirbyson on Twitter. To learn more about the WHA, visit us at WHA Hockey on Facebook. This is THE WHA site on the web with 6,000-plus dedicated rebel leaguers sharing WHA memories every day. We greatly appreciate your feedback and the heartfelt letters we've received from fans around the world regarding the podcast. Please contact us via our Pro Hockey Alumni Podcast website or social media with any comments or questions. Also, we'd appreciate any ratings or reviews you may be inclined to give wherever you listen to podcasts. Host: Mark Willand Geoff is organizing a 40-year reunion of the 1978-79 team at the end of this month, culminating with a banquet on June 1. Players are flying in from four different countries, including Kent Nilsson, Terry Ruskowski, Rich Preston, Willy Lindstrom, Morris Lukowich, Peter Sullivan, Roland Eriksson, Scott Campbell, Kim Clackson, John Gray, Paul MacKinnon, Glenn Hicks, Joe Daley, Markus Mattsson, Bill Lesuk, Lyle Moffat and coach Tommy McVie. https://www.eventbrite.ca/.../40-year-reunion-of-the-1978... What's in a name? Quite a lot, actually, despite what Shakespeare says. When it comes to a merger, this can be even more important. With research showing that up to 80% of mergers fail – and one major reason being clashing corporate cultures during post-merger integration – choosing a name and brand that the entire organization can get behind is critical to success. In this episode, listen to Kristen Spensieri of Syneos Health and Joe Daley of Syneos Health branding firm Addison Whitney discuss how the company is walking the talk – rebranding its own organization after the 2017 merger of INC Research and inVentiv Health, and how these principles can be applied to any company going through a rebrand. The 2017 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai will be Tuesday January 17-Saturday January 21. The final round being on Saturday means football fans who love golf too can stay home and watch football on Sunday!!!! Kelly Fliear, Tournament Manager and I have worked together on this tournament for 20 years. We share some stories about what a wonderful week it is in so many ways. Meanwhile here are specifics ... . It's a PGA TOUR Champions tournament with official event champions of the 2015 and 2016 seasons, winners of the majors since 2012 and ten professionals by invitation with a minimum of five or more career victories, including one major. It's a wonderful event for spectators on the beautiful Hualalai Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka’upulehu. The Pro-Am is on Tuesday January 17-Wednesday January 18 and for the 54 hole stroke play event broadcast with a 1.8 million purse will be broadcast on NBC Golf Channel Thursday, Friday and Saturday January 19-21. Duffy Waldorf will defend. Advance tickets are available at pgatour.com/mec Week. $20 One Day Pass / $40 Tournament Pass (purchase on website) or at the Gate $25 Tournament Day Pass $ 50 Tournament Pass . The PGA Champions Tour players who have qualified for this years tournament are: Michael Allen, Billy Andrade, Woody Austin, Paul Broadhurst, Olin Browne, Mark Calcavecchia, Roger Chapman, Fred Couples, Joe Daley, Marco Dawson, Joe Durant, Carlos Franco, David Frost, Doug Garwood, Paul Goydos, Jay Haas, Kohki Idoki, Lee Janzen, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Bernhard Langer, Tom Lehman, Jeff Maggert, Scott McCarron, Rocco Mediate, Colin Montgomerie, Jesper Parnevik, Kenny Perry, Gene Sauers, Jerry Smith, Esteban Toledo, Kirk Triplett, Duffy Waldorf, Mark Wiebe, Ian Woosnam. The 10 sponsor exemptions include John Daly, Fred Funk, Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Davis Love III, Sandy Lyle, Larry Nelson, Mark O’Meara, Tom Pernice Jr., Loren Roberts, Vijay Singh, Jeff Sluman, Jerry Smith, David Toms, Tom Watson Kelly Fliear, Tournament Manager and Brian Goin, head of PGA Tour Championship Management, Dave Senko, Senior Manager Communications at the PGA Tour, Pete Rolfing, PCR Sports< M and so many others who return each year. While we get an opportunity to see up close, Champions Tour players and be inspired by their golf, I think one of the best aspects of this event for the last 20 years is the funds that have been raised for local charities. The Rotary Club of Kona organizes the volunteers with Kris Hazard and Larry Webb continuing as volunteer co-chairs and in return the tournament donates to the Rotary Club of Kona Community Foundation. Big Island Junior Golf is one of the charities as well. I always look forward to Saturday when the keiki from the Big Island Junior Golf in Hilo sponsored by Mitsubishi come to the tournament after they play their own tournament at Mauna Lani Resort. They are knowledgeable golf fans and so enthused when getting autographs. While players are good with the fans, they are especially attentive to the juniors. In the past Tom Watson and Hale Irwin each year have a special interaction with the keiki joking and interacting with them as they signs autographs. I have friends who were junior golfers when this event started 20 years ago on the Big Island and no question being around this quality golf inspired my friends to practice, get on their high school team, earn college scholarships and a handful are now professional golfers. The Daniel R Sayre Foundation is another one of the charities. The Foundation was created by Dr. Frank and Laura Sayre in memory of their son Daniel who lost his life in a hiking accident 20 years ago in Pololu Valley. Recognizing the need for rescue equipment, the Daniel R Sayre Foundation with tremendous community support has raised well over a million dollars in monies and equipment for our Hawaii County Fire Department and Rescue Teams. David Marr III, Mark Rolfing, and Jay Radzavicz all with NBC Golf Channel return each year to be part of the broadcasts and reports from the Mitsubishi Electric Championship and lend their support for an event at Nanea with some of the Champions Tour players raising funds for the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. The PGA Tour, Brendan Moynahan, Director of Golf Hualalai Golf Club and his staff, Kahu Billy Mitchell, “Uncle” Earl Regidor Manager, Ka’upulehu Cultural Center, the Four Seasons Resort staff and the volunteers have year after year created a world class event with players that just might inspire you to work on your golf game a little more or volunteer next year.
