This week, we're revisiting an episode on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) — essential drivers of creativity and profits, yet progress has been slow. It's time for leaders to become "rock stars" of inclusion — and that starts with pushing through discomfort, says veteran broadcaster and diversity leader June Sarpong. "When it comes to diversity and inclusion, we need bold disruptors who are uncomfortable with the status quo, even if the status quo benefits them," Sarpong says. After the talk, Modupe highlights proven strategies that increase representation and inclusion in the workplace. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this episode of Out of the Clouds, Anne Muhlethaler interviews Scott Wimsett @ScottWimsett, a presenter, a fashion director and sustainability expert based in the UK. Scott started his agency, Bespoke Banter, in 2006 with a vision of supporting global talent and brands to create social assets in film to support their storytelling. Scott built a reputation for being a supportive and trusted partner for many world-renowned talents who work with his company closely to craft the broadcasted film and images they distribute globally. More recently, Scott launched The Feel Good Fellowship with friend, model, and climate activist Arizona Muse. Among all his endeavours, Scott is committed to encouraging brands to prioritise transparency, accuracy, and research in all their digital content to empower audiences to make more sustainable, environmentally positive choices in the brands they support.Much like Anne, Scott loves to entertain good conversations in addition to his content creation work. Scott has hosted a podcast with Royal Ascot on sustainability, and returned with a new show called ‘Personal Threads', with diverse guests from David Gandy to Paul O'Grady and June Sarpong. In this interview, Scott shares with Anne his story, from how he started on stage acting and dancing before going into modelling and PR — but always with a desire pulling him to TV and presenting. An astute expert in his field, Scott talks about his early wins and what helped establish his reputation, and later about the importance of listening carefully to what is coming next, including how that's guided his moves from his start with Bespoke Banter to the projects he is doing now.Scott shares the thought process that drove him to build his own company and why he felt, and still feels, that film (or video) is essential for brands and talent to tell a detailed story. Scott believes that brands can turn to film to create a documentary of sorts — one that transmits their values and history, and that will communicate their DNA to their audience — but that transparency and vulnerability are key.Scott then tells Anne about his experience with Vipassana, which he discovered when a friend signed him up to attend a silent meditation retreat that transformed his life. He goes on to talk about how the combination of being active in addition to meditation and journaling continues to support him daily and explains that his meditation and other personal health rituals are not a hack or a quick add on, but, as he says, a necessity: ‘It's not like it's painted on. It's not like you are making yourself do it. It becomes just part of who we are. It's just how you live your life.'    Happy listening!     ***You can find Scott on Instagram @https://www.instagram.com/scottwimsett/Discover his company Bespoke Banter -  https://www.bespokebanter.com/And the Feel Good Fellowship - https://www.feelgoodfellowship.com/Scott is also an advisor with the Sustainable Beauty Coalition - https://www.instagram.com/sustainablebeautycoalition/The British Beauty Council - https://britishbeautycouncil.com/The first Royal Ascot podcast hosted by Scott called 'A New Era in Style' -https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/royal-ascot-a-new-era-in-style/id1569576018Bay Garnett, stylist and senior fashion ambassador for Oxfam - https://www.baygarnett.com/pressThe Royal Ascot - https://www.ascot.com/royal-ascot-2023The Royal Ascot 'Personal Threads' podcast hosted by Scott Wimsett & Susan Bender - https://shows.acast.com/personal-threadsThe song Faith by George Michael - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cs3Pvmmv0EAnne Glenconner's book 'Lady in Waiting' - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49945845-lady-in-waiting*** f you enjoyed this episode, click subscribe for more, and consider writing a review of the show on Apple Podcasts, we really appreciate your support and feedback. This episode features the amazing Sophie Williams. For those who don’t know Sophie, she is a TED Speaker, a leading anti-racism advocate, and the author of two great books. The first, Anti-Racist Ally is an Introduction to allyship at home, work, and in the community, and was published in October of last year.  And just this week, I’m very excited as she has just released her latest book - Millennial Black. The book is the ultimate guide to the workplace for black women. It offers empowering, practical, and comprehensive advice for black women to build a career. But not only that it also has inspiring interviews from the likes of June Sarpong, Aja Barber, Candice Brathwaite, Naomi Ackie, and Munroe Bergdorf.  I feel extremely lucky to have recorded Sophie’s story as she is one busy lady and this episode brings you not only a great insight into her views but also how she got to where she is today. From a challenging time as a drama student and the all too familiar experience of being the only black person for the majority of her time at uni, to randomly falling into the world of advertising and to writing her book Anti-racist ally in just 9 days after a fateful social post threw her at the heart of an important debate. Regular listeners to the podcast will know that I love nothing more than to go deep and so I could not be more proud of this episode as it’s probably one of the deepest, most emotional, and important discussions I’ve had in a long time.

Across PROJECT RESET_, we have discussed specific areas that affect us all, asking what the future could look like if we took this moment of adversity as an opportunity to make positive changes. This episode looks at the most pointed questions that came out of those that have come before it and lets us begin to shed a brighter light on an uncertain future. Our hosts Rick Edwards and June Sarpong talk with Kathryn Finney, Tim Harford, Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock & The Venerable Tenzin Priyadarshi. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Education For AllLockdown was hard for everyone but what we don’t hear about are the stories of those who faced starvation and destitution, simply because they couldn’t go to school. This was the situation faced by students of the Malaika school in the Democratic Republic of Congo only a few months ago. The school, founded 13 yrs by model and philanthropist Noella Coursaris Musunka provides a free and holistic education to 370 girls from the ages of 5-18. Before the school, the village had no water, electricity or healthcare, but since then it not only has a school and community centre, but 20 wells providing clean water. As well as this they provide sports programmes, adult vocational skills and IT classes to around 5200 people. So you can see that this is a much needed and impactful programme.Women Supporting WomenPost lockdown there is a lot of work to be done. Malaika have partnered with rental platform Hurr to raise much needed awareness and funds for the school and community. I was incredibly lucky to get to speak to Noella and Victoria, the CEO and Co Founder of Hurr on the day the campaign launched. Wear to Care offers renters an opportunity to rent pieces donated by incredible celebrities including Helena Christensen, Thandie Newton, June Sarpong, Eve and Natalia Vodianova, as well as brands such as Vilshenko, Roland Mouret and Roksanda. All the money raised goes directly to the school. Not only that but Hurr are using the amazing community that they have fostered around their peer to peer rental service to encourage women to sponsor girls at the school. The campaign seeks to highlight the power of female friendship and the importance of empowering each other through knowledge, finance and holistic support. We all know that when young girls are given these things, their potential to thrive is improved exponentially. We hope you feel uplifted and inspired by our conversation with these two amazing women. With thanks to our inspiring guests, Noëlla Coursaris Musunka and Victoria PrewMentioned in the episodeMalaika SchoolHurrCharlie CollinsVideo of girlsHurr InstagramMalaika InstagramPlease Support The Vendeur & Join Our CommunityInstagramFacebookPinterestSeries Credits Host Lucy KebbellTheme created by Joe Murgatroyd

This episode with the wonderful guest June Sarpong was recorded in November 2017.We discuss her new book Diversify backstage at Stylist Live. June has also taken on the world’s most challenging live audiences, hosting 2005’s major Make Poverty History event in London’s Trafalgar Square and presenting at the UK leg of Live Earth in 2007. In 2008 alongside Will Smith she also hosted Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday celebrations in front of 30,000 people in London’s Hyde Park.We talk about how to lead a more inclusive lifestyle, why it's important to have difficult conversations and how to get out of your own 'bubble'.
