On today's episode, Michael chats it up with Kip Andersen. Kip is an award-winning filmmaker whose films include the Netflix blockbusters ‘Seaspiracy' and ‘What the Health,' which was co-executive produced with Joaquin Phoenix. He is also a certified Jivamukti and Kundalini yoga teacher, as well as the founder of AUM Films and Media, a non-profit organization that promotes awareness and equality for all life. Kip's most recent film, ‘Christspiracy: The Spirituality Secret,' features a guest appearance by Michael and was co-executive produced with Leonardo DiCaprio. The film was purchased back from Netflix and can be seen online (see link below).  Highlights from Kip and Michael's provocative conversation include: -A deep dive into the film's central question: Is there a spiritual way to kill an animal? -Kip's sudden shift to veganism and how his ponderance of the ethical, environmental, and spiritual layers of eating animals inspired his trilogy of documentaries, culminating in ‘Christspiracy' -Kip discovering the Nazarene and Essene movements—early religious sects that were against temple animal sacrifices—of which Jesus and his brother James were a part  -Recounting Kip's shocking experiences filming ‘Christspiracy' and uncovering cultural coverups around animal treatment -Unpacking the true meaning of “dominion,” not as control over, but as caring for the Earth and all beings, including animals -Kip's decision to release ‘Christspiracy' independently and let viewers pay what they can, and more! Next, Michael leads a guided meditation with a high vibration of intention to wake up to our glorious nature. Catch up with Kip here: https://www.aumfilms.org/films-1 and on social media. Episode #308. How would Jesus kill an animal? Join me as I sit down with filmmakers Kip Andersen and Kameron Waters to discuss their position on how religion and veganism intersect. Whether you are religious or not, there are many interesting points raised to reflect on further. In their new documentary Christspiracy, Kip and Kameron pose the question: is there a spiritual way to kill an animal? In this episode, they argue what they believe to be the accurate interpretation of what the Bible says about animal liberation, taking us on a journey of what the concept of dominion truly means. We discuss a 2000-year-old cover-up, whether eating meat as a Christian is hypocritical, the truth about regenerative agriculture, and much more. The makers of Seaspiracy and Cowspiracy are back. Christspiracy is another profoundly disturbing film detailing the industrial abuse of our animal kin. Expect more horrific carelessness and exploitation on a mass scale. Only this time, Kip Andersen and Kameron Waters not only go global but look back in time. “This is plausibly the most significant new discovery about Jesus Christ, in the last 2,000 years,” says the blurb. But can that be right? Has justified outrage at the treatment of our fellow creatures got the better of them? Initially, I wasn't convinced. This week's guest on Under The Skin is Kip Andersen co-director of investigative documentaries “Cowpiracy” and “What The Health”. Both films challenge and confront some of the collusion and manipulation of information happening in the food and dairy industry. There was some controversy around these films and Kip addresses those refuting the facts in the podcast. We also speak about the idealogical nature of diet and ritualised food, the difficulty in changing society's deep rooted traditions and and the power of spiritual practices like kundalini and yoga in changing our perspective and outlook on life.

Here at The ChickPeeps we've talked about being vegan for the animals and vegan for our health but we haven't talked about being vegan for the health of humankind and animals together aka. THE ENVIRONMENT! To address this topic, we interview the mastermind filmmakers Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn who put the environmental impact of veganism into focus with their groundbreaking documentary, Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret. In this interview Kip and Keegan expand on the information shared in Cowspiracy and explain precisely what impact one individual can have on the environment by being vegan. Also on this epsiode… Kip and Keegan explain why they are actually ethical vegans. Robbie gets nerdy with Keegan about the true cost of animal agriculture on the environment. ‘Literally anything you could care about in the environmental world, raising animals for food is the primary driver of its destruction, and yet it's basically overlooked. How organic or grass-fed meat is worse for the environment. Why animal agriculture is also a people problem: ‘If there wasn't such a demand for meat dairy and eggs in the so-called "developed world", we wouldn't see these rates of poverty that we see - and starvation and hunger - in the developing [world].' What difference can one person going vegan actually make? Non-vegan environmentalists: how to talk to hardcore environmentalists who reject veganism. Mangoes from India? Avocados from Mexico? The environmental impact of importing foods from around the world, and do we need to be focusing on local produce? Are almond farms causing drought? ‘This is a movement from the grassroots up, I think it's going to need to be us hitting a critical mass as vegans and vegetarians and environmentalists and compassionate people.' Is veganism enough? Kip expands on how else we can be mindful of Mother Earth. Kip and Keegan talk about their exciting upcoming projects. Kip is the co-director & producer of the outstanding documentaries Cowspiracy and What The Health. Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean “dead zones,” and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged. What the Health is the groundbreaking follow-up film from the creators of the award-winning documentary Cowspiracy. "If I could deliver one message to the researchers who are looking for the cause of diabetes and the cause of clogged arteries and the cause of high blood pressure and the cause of diabetes I would tell them the answer is in 3 words - it's the food". These words were said by Dr Michael Klaper, an American physician who uses whole foods plant-based nutrition in his medical practice, and come straight from the movie 'What The Health'. This movie opened internationally this month and we were privileged to attend the Australian premiere screening in Melbourne this week. This extremely provacative and groundbreaking documentary movie made by Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn, is the follow-up film from the creators of the award-winning documentary Cowspiracy. The film exposes the collusion and corruption in government and big business that is costing us trillions of healthcare dollars, and keeping us sick. It uncovers the secret to preventing and even reversing chronic diseases, which is essentially a whole foods plant-based diet, and seems to be something the world's leading health organizations don't want people to know about. In this episode we discuss our impressions of the movie, play the trailer of the movie, and then play the audio from a medical panel discussion which was conducted in the cinema immediately following the movie screening. This panel included general practitioner Dr Malcolm Mackay, medical oncologist Dr Despina Handolias, lifestyle medicine trainee Dr Renae Thomas, neuropsychologist Dr Ash Nayate, and was moderated by intensive care physician Dr Andrew Davies. The panel members gave their impressions of the movie and discussed how they are using plant-based nutrition in their practice before answering questions from the audience. The many questions included how we can get more health care professionals to consider plant-based nutrition in their own lives and practice, what are the best resources for information to back up our dietary choices, what are the effects of pesticides on plant-based wholefoods, whether we should be concerned about significant soy consumption, the risk of iron deficiency for plant-based eaters, recommendations regarding vitamin B12 supplementation on a plant-based diet, whether backyard eggs might be better than commercially produced eggs, the struggles of challenging the status quo in health education, and thoughts on a high carbohydrate, low fat approach to diet. This was a really valuable panel discussion and we are very pleased to bring this to you courtesy of Raw Events Australia and Animal Liberation Victoria who arranged the movie screening and panel discussion. Hope you enjoy it.

“There are two kinds of cardiologists: vegans and those who haven't read the data.”Dr. Kim Williams, MD President, American College of CardiologyImagine four commercial airliners crashing every single hour of every single day of every single year. It's unfathomable. And yet that is how many Americans die from heart disease annually. In fact, an unbelievable 1 out of every 3 people in the U.S. will perish from this one disease.Meanwhile, 70% of Americans are obese or overweight. In the coming decade, 50% of Americans will be diagnosed diabetic or pre-diabetic. An economic disaster, 75% of all health care costs in America are attributable to these and a few other chronic lifestyle illnesses. It's devastating. And yet the most heartbreaking aspect of this crisis is that 80-90% of these illnesses are very easily preventable and often entirely reversible via some rather simple diet and lifestyle alternations. It's the food, stupid. This week I'm joined by Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn, the filmmaking dynamic duo behind the groundbreaking documentary Cowspiracy, to talk about their brand new follow up. Equally groundbreaking, What The Health explores the relationship between our food systems and big business, exposing the collusion and corruption that is making us sick, keeping us sick and costing us trillions in healthcare dollars.Whereas Cowspiracy explores the impact of animal agriculture on environmental health, What The Health focuses on human health. Perhaps the most important documentary you will ever see, it's a film about the power of special interest groups to drive unhealthy consumer spending habits. It's about environmental racism and the impact of animal agriculture on community health. And it's about why you need to rethink for yourself everything you've ever been told about the relationship between business and food, the impact of food choice on personal health, and your body's incredible, innate power to prevent, fight and even reverse the chronic lifestyle illnesses that are unnecessarily killing people by the millions.Starting March 16, the film will be available to watch worldwide at whatthehealthfilm.com – where you can also pre-order the DVD and cookbook as well as set up a screening in your town (I'm hosting one on March 29). In addition, for the first four days of the film's release (between March 16 – 20), Keegan and Kip will be donating half of all proceeds to Food Not Bombs – an amazing, for-purpose organization that feeds thousands of people free vegan meals across North America and the world.Kip and Keegan are truly breaking paradigms. As Andersen approaches leaders in the environmental movement, he increasingly uncovers what appears to be an intentional refusal to discuss the issue of animal agriculture, while industry whistleblowers and watchdogs warn him of the risks to his freedom and even his life if he dares to persist.   Kip Andersen’s environmental awakening came as a result of An Inconvenient Truth. After seeing the film, he began to recycle religiously, turn off lights constantly, shower infrequently, and ride a bike instead of driving. Andersen believed he was doing everything he could to help the planet by following the guidelines of national and international environmental organizations, but his life took a different direction when he found out animal agriculture is the leading cause of environmental destruction. He is the founder of AUM Films and Media, a 501c3 non-profit focused on creating films and media that promote thrivability, compassion, and harmony for all life. He is also an entrepreneur, as well as a certified Jivamukti and Kundalini yoga teacher. He is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo school of business and has called San Francisco home for more than a decade. Keegan Kuhn is a videographer, award-winning documentary filmmaker, and professional musician living in the east bay of San Francisco. He has worked with nonprofit organizations and been involved in social justice movements for virtually his entire life. As a filmmaker, he helps organizations reach an ever-greater community of supporters with the highest possible quality films and videos. His film career has taken him as far as the remote interior of Alaska to document modern homesteaders, to the high deserts of the American west filming the nation’s remaining wild horses, to rural agricultural communities and dirty urban streets. He is motivated by a deep desire to shed light on untold stories of the most downtrodden in our society, and to raise to awareness through greater visibility of social justice issues. In the quest for a carbon-neutral lifestyle, it can be difficult to sort out which activities have the greatest negative impact on our climate, from driving a car to eating animal products. The documentary Cowspiracy, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, contends that animal agriculture is the number one source of climate killing pollution, and environmental non-profits are colluding to keep this information from the American public. “[Animal agriculture] is one of the largest industries on the planet, with the biggest environmental impact. And they are trying to keep us in the dark about how they are operating…”Will Potter, independent journalist & TED Senior FellowA little over a year ago, I shared an amazing conversation with Kip Andersen & Keegan Kuhn, the dynamic filmmaking duo behind Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret. If you missed that episode, I encourage you to check it out here– it's one of my most popular episodes to date.An Inconvenient Truth meets Blackfish, Cowspiracy is an incredibly sobering and powerful (yet also funny and entertaining) documentary that takes a hard, unflinching look at the incredibly negative impact of animal agriculture on the health, well being and sustainability of our planet and it's precious, dwindling resources.Whether we are talking about carbon emissions, climate change, the blindingly rapid destruction of our rain forests, over consumption of water, species extinction, the depletion and destruction of our soil, the pollution of our rivers, lakes and oceans or the obliteration of natural wildlife habitats, you might be surprised to discover the very inconvenient and uncomfortable truth that animal agriculture is the industry by far most responsible for the global environmental catastrophe we currently face.If this is true, then why aren't we talking about it more?Cowspiracy is the rather shocking tale of what Kip and Keegan discovered trying to answer this very question. The little indie film that could, Cowspiracy is a true grassroots phenomenon. Crowd-source funded, rejected by the film festival circuit and lacking distribution, Kip and Keegan spent the last year traveling the country in a van attending independently organized, homespun screenings. Getting the word out one screen at a time, one audience at a time. Then something truly amazing happened. The film fell into the hands of Leonardo DiCaprio. The biggest movie star in the world didn't just fall in love with the movie, he came on board as Executive Producer with a mission: that Cowspiracy become required viewing for everyone and anyone who gives a slightest damn about the health of our planet. This week that mission moves towards reality. On Tuesday, September 15, Cowspiracy will premiere on Netflix worldwide. For those of you that have already seen the film, this is a new and improved cut — tighter with updated facts, it demands another view. The impact of Leonardo's name and credibility on the film's reach is astronomical and cannot be overstated. I am extremely proud to be an early supporter and associate producer on this project. I'm excited for mainstream audiences to finally discover this important film. I'm over the moon that Kip and Keegan will now be recognized on a mass level for their incredible work. But mostly I am excited for the dynamic environmental conversation that will inevitably ensue. And the positive changes to follow.Picking up where our first conversation left off, today's podcast covers a lot of ground, including:* the broad effects of animal agriculture on society* ethical & environmental concerns* the fallacy of ‘sustainable' livestock* the Alan Savory myth* soil & ecosystem degradation* educating charitable organizations * grass roots vs. mainstream media* how Leonardo DiCaprio got involved* the Netflix effect on enviro advocacyKip and Keegan are truly breaking paradigms. You care about the planet, right?Of course you do. We're all concerned about global climate change, melting ice caps, fracking, the pollution of our oceans and all the many more issues we currently face that threaten Earth's long term sustainable health. As such, we do our best to be good planetary citizens. To keep our carbon footprint light, we eat local, recycle and compost. We opt for the bike and leave the hybrid car in the garage to reduce our fossil fuel dependance. We've swapped our lightbulbs for those new expensive ones that for whatever reason are supposed to be so much better. And here in California (and wherever we face drought) we limit our showers and curtail excess water usage. This is a very positive shift in consciousness. These are all great habits. So go ahead. It's OK to feel good about yourself. In fact, give yourself a pat on the back for being awesome. But what if I told you that all of our individual good citizenship efforts are just the tiniest drop in the bucket when compared to the massively deleterious impact of just one particular industry most of us quite simply and unconsciously support on a daily basis every day of our lives?Whether we are talking about global climate change, the blindingly rapid destruction of our rain forests, over consumption of water, species extinction, the depletion and destruction of our soil, the pollution of our rivers, lakes and oceans or the obliteration of natural wildlife habitats, you might be surprised to discover the very inconvenient and uncomfortable truth that there is one industry single-handedly responsible for destroying and undermining the health and sustainability of our planet far more than any other. The elephant in the room – animal agriculture. It is indisputable that our global industrialized system of factory livestock harvesting is unsustainable. It's killing us and it's killing the planet. We must embrace this reality and work collectively to create new sustainable systems to feed the 7 billion people that walk the Earth. Because the point of no return is quickly upon us. We're in the red. If we don't promptly redirect, it truly will be too late. When it comes to conservation and ecological responsibility, the dialog generally focuses on fossil fuels. A big issue, of course; and worthy of our attention. But here's a truth that all too often gets quietly swept under the rug: the deleterious environmental impacts of animal agriculture dwarf the impacts of fossil fuel demand in every single category across the board. So why aren't we talking about it?This is the question explored by Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret — an incredibly sobering and powerful upcoming documentary that takes a hard, unflinching look at just why the issue of animal agriculture and its incomprehensibly negative impact fails to get the airtime it deserves in the global environmentalism conversation. Imagine An Inconvenient Truth meets Blackfish and you get the picture.Today on the podcast I am so excited to have the filmmakers here to tell us all about what is really going on — Keegan Kuhn and Kip Andersen. We truly are all connected on this small blue planet. And as such, no discussion about individual health in the micro is complete without conversation about global health in the macro. We have a collective responsibility to remove the blinders of denial, take the red pill from the Matrix, understand what is truly at play and marshall our planetary citizenship to catalyze the change this planet, our children and all its inhabitants deserve — before it's too late.I sincerely hope this conversation challenges you and gives you something to really ponder. And I encourage all of you to go out and see this film when i... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
