Welcome to our podcast where we discuss and deliberate over memoirs and biographies found in thrift shops. This is a great way to do things as we are not choosing who to read about. We may not be fans of the person, we may never have heard of the person and we never know who we are going to find next...There are only 2 rules to this podcast. The book has to be found in a thrift shop and we are not allowed to talk about the book until we press record, which is sometimes agonising. We have lots of episodes coming up so if you find yourself enjoying our podcast, please be sure to subscribe to be among the first to hear about each episode.Support the show

This week we sat down with Harry Josh, one of the very top hairdressers and hair professionals in the industry today. Working in both runway fashion and hair since the early 90's, Harry's career shifted straight into the spotlight after an editor discovered he was responsible for the enviable locks of multiple models' hair, and Harry's particularly famous for Giselle's sun-kissed waves. Off duty, Harry found himself doing the hair of the models he was friends with at his apartment, and on the podcast Harry explains how he was able to be at his most creative under those simple circumstances. He revolutionized the business nine years ago with his line of Harry Josh Pro Tools and an in-a-class-by-itself hair dryer that changed it all. Harry talks about his recent dedication to pouring time into developing the line, set off by the COVID-19 pandemic, when the red carpet and editorial work he's highly sought after for had dwindled. You'll be inspired by Harry discussing personal and professional integrity and growth, the importance of treating all people with kindness ----and how it comes back to him, and how it can come back to you--- tenfold, in what he calls his “habituated way of thinking”. We talk what he's learned most as an entrepreneur and his advice for those starting out. We discuss Harry's popular Instagram account; a place where he mixes glamorous fashion photos with posts that are sweet nuggets of spiritual growth. We discuss the double-edged sword that is social media, and how his approach to it evolves and has evolved. We talk muses and sources of inspiration, meditation, spending time in the kitchen, what hair he's loving now, and we love all the stories you'll hear about the earlier days in fashion, and when he worked closely with people like Marc Jacobs. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Hilary Swank, Rose Byrne, Kate Bosworth, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Irina Shayk, everyone from kings and queens to Nascar drivers, musicians, politicians, supermodels, and celebrities of all kinds, have had their heads touched by Harry Josh. In episode eighty of the Glow Journal podcast, host Gemma Watts talks to the founder of Macabalm, Pia Whitesell.Pia's first memories of beauty centre around strength, rather than aesthetics. Raised by her mother, grandmother and, as she tells me, really her entire community, Pia grew up identifying beauty with strength and getting it done- an ethos she's taken into her own adult life. Another ethos that has taken Pia from her teens right through to now is this idea of natural beauty, and an understanding that your beauty lies within the things that make you uniquely you. Despite winning the now infamous Dolly Magazine Model Search at the age of 14, Pia tells me that she grew up feeling different, as a Latina going to both school and castings with girls who didn't share her body shape nor the colour of her skin, her eyes and her hair. Her modelling career saw her walking in fashion shows with the likes Helena Christensen and Linda Evangelista, and it was at this point, the height of the 90s, that she began to appreciate the aesthetic of the time- pared back, natural beauty. As a model, an actress and a mother, Pia had identified a gap for a true beauty multitasker, and as she began researching native Australian ingredients she came across the humble macadamia, the benefits of which you'll hear more about in our conversation- and so, Macabalm was born. A mere 12 months following the brand's launch in Australia, Pia is already working on the brand's US launch. In this conversation, Pia shares the lessons she has learnt around the comparison trap and why she's passing those lessons on to her teenaged sons, the challenges she's faced as a brand launching with a single SKU, and how a pest controller could have undone the years of work she put into gaining Macabalm's organic certification. Today's guest is Harry Josh, one of the most sought-after editorial stylists in the world. Before his freelance career took off, Harry was doing double duty as a celebrity hairdresser and casting director for Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. Now, Harry's days are filled doing editorial work for Harper's Bazaar, British Vogue, GQ, Allure, and other leading fashion magazines. In 2013, he launched his namesake hair tool line: Harry Josh® Pro Tools. His much-lauded Pro Dryer 2000 is a favorite of celebrities, stylists and real men and women alike. Today, Harry Josh® Pro Tools consists of two hair dryers, two curling irons, a flat iron, a diffuser, and an array of brushes, combs and clips. Harry has touched the heads of Rose Byrne, Olivia Wilde, Taylor Schilling, Kate Bosworth, Hillary Swank, Ellen Pompeo, Christy Turlington, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Kaia Gerber, Karlie Kloss and Gisele. In this episode we talk about a variety of topics including Harry's persistence working in the industry for 12 years before getting his big break. Harry recalls how his job as a casting director helped him forge relationships with models and how those friendships essentially placed himself in front of Amy Astley, the former beauty editor of Vogue at that time. We also dive deeper into the power of mindset and how he's cultivated an abundant one throughout his career. He notes that his struggles taught him how to focus on the present and to always remain true to his passion for education and empowering others through his work. Harry reiterates that happiness is a choice and not based on circumstances. We also discuss the benefits of meditation and the mind, how to stay present in a digital world, and how he's taking all his lessons from his extensive and impressive career to make an impact in the beauty industry today. As Spring fashion looms large against the backdrop of this brave new world creative fashion designers like Lisa Barron are at the optimistic helm as always, championing her beautiful Australian designs with her original Australian Designer Collection worn by everyone from Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, and Helena Christensen in the 80s through to Australian fashionistas surfer Layne Beachley and an array of renowned artists, musicians, and presenters.Lisa's designs have also been showcased at every Melbourne Fashion Festival since its inception. With $500 and a portable sewing machine, Lisa crossed to set up a garage business in Melbourne. Designing, sewing, and selling the collections to iconic fashion retailers through the '80s and '90s saw the label become a strong player in the Australian fashion industry. The label is proudly made in Australia and Lisa is a strong supporter of local manufacturing. Lisa sits on the Advisory board of Creative Victoria and is a founding Australian member of The International Women's Forum. It's a strange time for Australian fashion - many shopping strips seem desolate as some retailers thrive in the online world while others flounder … but Lisa is positive and hopes and prays the iconic Melbourne Spring Carnival will go ahead as she reflects on an era that is like no other. We still need to create, dress up, celebrate, and feel glamorous.

Patricia Velásquez is our very first supermodel turned actress on the show! You Might Know Her From The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, The Curse of La Llorona, Arrested Development, Liz in September, American Family, and The L Word. Patricia opened up about her decision to publicly come out in her memoir Straight Walk : A Supermodel's Journey to Finding Her Truth on the heels of headlining Liz in September, the first Spanish language film about lesbians. We talked about how The Mummy Returns is lesbian canon, why her character on The L Word didn’t get more to do, and what it was like to be on the set of Arrested Development with a bunch of comedy men (and Liza!). All that, plus Patricia gives us the dream exercise that she used to make peace with La Llorona, and tells us tales of making history as the first Latina (and lesbian) supermodel, who happened to be in a relationship with Sandra Bernhard in the 1990s. Hear Me, See Me. Podcast. Hairdressing Icon, Sam McKnight. This episode was an absolute joy for me as it is one of my absolute hair heroes, Sam McKnight.Celebrated session hair stylist, Sam McKnight, is the hairdresser's hairdresser. He boasts a legendary career spanning over four decades encompassing catwalk, editorial and advertising campaigns for fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, Balmain, Burberry and Tom Ford. A regular contributor to both British and international Vogues, W, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, i-D and Love, he has over 100 covers to his name from British Vogue alone. McKnight is also a Contributing Beauty Editor at British Vogue. McKnight has collaborated with some of the world's most prominent photographers including Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino and Nick Knight. A long-time stylist for the late Princess Diana, McKnight was the creative behind her iconic short, slicked back hairstyle in the now-famous 1990 Demarchelier shoot for British Vogue, a partnership that led to him becoming her personal hair stylist for seven years. One of the original session stylists, McKnight initially trained as a teacher before working as an assistant at a local hairdresser in his native Scotland. Moving to London in the early 1970's, McKnight secured a position at Molton Brown, which at the time was a leading hair salon in London's South Molton Street. He worked on projects for London-based magazines 19 and Honey before landing his first editorial shoot with British Vogue in 1977. While working in London, he was introduced to stylists Liz Tilberis (later editor of British Vogue and Harpers Bazaar US) and Lucinda Chambers (British Vogue), who were instrumental in hiring him for high-profile editorial shoots.McKnight has been bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award at both the Scottish Fashion Awards and Creative Head Awards 2015. He is hugely respected within the hairdressing community and is often cited as a source of inspiration or named as ‘the hairstylist I would most like to work with' by his peers. On November 2nd 2016, Somerset House launched Hair by Sam McKnight, a major exhibition celebrating McKnight's impressive career. Never before has an exhibition of this kind taken place, looking at hair from a new perspective and celebrating the significant role of session hair styling in both fashion and culture throughout the decades. In tandem, McKnight also released his first book: Hair by Sam McKnight (Rizzoli), a hardback anthology of his magazine covers, editorial shoots and personal insights into working at the heart of the fashion industry.June 2017 saw McKnight launch a brand: Hair by Sam McKnight, in Liberty of London, injecting fashion, glamour and ease into haircare and styling. The collection is the culmination of McKnight's knowledge and experience in the industry, giving women the tools and confidence to style their hair themselves.PhotographersAlasdair McLellan, Andrea Spotorno, Angelo Pennetta, Arthur Elgort, Ben Hassett, Bruce Weber, Carter Smith, Charlotte Wales, Clara Giaminardi, Corinne Day, Craig McDean, David Bailey, David Sims, David Slijper, Derek Kettela, Elaine Constantine, Ellen Von Unwerth, Emma Summerton, Erik Torstensson, Glen Luchford, Hedi Slimane, Inez and Vinoodh, Irving Penn, Javier Vallhonrat, Johnny Dufort, Juergen Teller, Jem Mitchell, Josh Olins, Karl Lagerfeld, Lachlan Bailey, Liz Collins, Marcus Ohlsson, Mario Sorrenti, Mario Testino, Mert & Marcus, Mikael Jansson, Mikael Schulz, Miles Aldridge, Morelli Brothers, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Jem Mitchell, Josh Shinner, Juergen Teller, Nadine Ijewere, Nick Knight, Paolo Roversi, Patrick Demarchelier, Paul Wetherell, Peter Lindbergh, Phil Poynter, Regan Cameron, Robin Derrick, Richard Avedon, Richard Burbridge, Sean Ellis, Sharif Hamza, Simon Emmett, Sølve Sundsbø, Terry Richardson, Tim Walker, Tom Ford, Tom Munro, Vincent Peters, Willy Vanderperre, Viviane SassenEditorialAnother, Another Man, Chaos, CR Fashion Book, Dazed, Elle, Evening Standard, Garage, Glamour (UK,US), GQ, Harper's Bazaar (UK,US), i-D, Interview, Love, Madame Figaro, Marie Claire, Numero, Ponystep, POP, Porter, Showstudio.com, The Edit, Vanity Fair, V Magazine, V Man, Visionaire, Vogue (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, British, US), W MagazineAdvertising / PRAlberta Ferretti, Angelo Marani, Aquascutum, BaByliss, Barrie Knitwear, Blumarine, Bottega Veneta, Brioni, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Chloé, Christian Dior, Clinique, David Morris, Dior Homme, DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana, Estée Lauder, Etro, Equipment, Fendi, Gap, GHD, Givenchy, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Hogan, Huawei Watches, Jean Paul Gaultier, Jimmy Choo, Jo Malone, Joop, Joseph, Just Cavalli, Kurt Geiger, Lancôme, Liu-Jo, Louis Vuitton, L'Oréal, Mac Cosmetics, Mango, Marni, Massimo Dutti, Max Factor, Michael Kors, Montblanc, Mulberry, Nina Ricci, Patrick Cox, Philosophy, Pirelli, Pantene, Pollini, Ralph Lauren, Reserved, Revlon, Rimmel, Roberto Cavalli, RMK Cosmetics, Salvatore Ferragamo, Shiseido, Sportmax, Stella McCartney, Stuart Weitzman, Swarovski, Tods, Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger, Topshop, Ungaro, Uniqlo, Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent, Z ZegnaCelebritiesAlexa Chung, Alicia Vikander, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Audrey Tautou, Bella Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Carey Mulligan, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Cate Blanchett, Cindy Crawford, Claire Foy, Clara Paget, Claudia Schiffer, Cora Corre, Diana Princess of Wales, Diane Kruger, Drew Barrymore, Ellie Bamber, Élodie Bouchez, Emilia Clarke, Emma Corrin, Emma Watson, Eva Green, Evan Rachel Wood, Florence Welch, Georgia May Jagger, Geraldine Chaplin, Gigi Hadid, Gisele Bündchen, Hailey Baldwin, Helena Bonham Carter, Helena Christensen, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Bosworth, Kate Moss, Kate Winslet, Kendall Jenner, Keira Knightley, Kim Basinger, Kim Kardashian West, Kirsten Dunst, Kristen Stewart, Kristin Scott Thomas, Kaia Gerber, Kylie Minogue, Laetitia Casta, Lady Gaga, Lara Stone, Lauren Bacall, Léa Seydoux, Lennon Gallagher, Lily Cole, Lily Collins, Lily Donaldson, Lily-Rose Depp, Linda Evangelista, Liv Tyler, Lou Doillon, Madonna, Maggie Cheung, Marion Cotillard, Margot Robbie, Marine Vacth, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Michelle Williams, Milla Jovovich, Monica Bellucci, Naomi Campbell, Naomi Scott, Naomi Watts, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Pharrell Williams, Rafferty Law, Riley Keough, Rita Ora, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sharon Stone, Sienna Miller, Suki Waterhouse, Taylor Swift, Tilda Swinton, Uma Thurman, Vanessa Paradis, Winnie HarlowFashion ShowsAlberta Ferretti, Alexandre Vauthier, Anna Molinari, Antonio Berardi, Anya Hindmarch, Ashish, Asprey, Aquascutum, Bally, Balmain, Blugirl, Blumarine, Brioni, Burberry, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Chloé, DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana, Dries Van Noten, DSquared2, Emporio Armani, Etro, Fendi, Gareth Pugh, Gianfranco Ferre, Giorgio Armani, Halpern, Iceberg, Isabel Marant, Jasper Conran, Jill Stuart, Julien Macdonald, Krizia, La Perla, Lancetti, Margaret Howell, Marios Schwab, Mary Katrantzou, Matthew Williamson, Max Mara, Micheal Halpern, Miu Miu, Monot, Moschino, Moschino Cheap & Chic, Mulberry, Nicholas Kirkwood, Nicole Farhi, Oscar de la Renta, Paul Smith, Philosophy, Ports 1961, Prada, Pringle, Ralph Lauren, Ralph & Russo, Roberto Cavalli, Roland Mouret, Ryan Lo, Salvatore Ferragamo, Sonia Rykiel, Sportmax, Thierry Mugler, Tom Ford, Topshop, Trussardi, Ungaro, Valentino, Vivienne Westwood, 16ArlingtonBio : http://www.premierhairandmakeup.com/hair/1-sam-mcknight/bio/Haircuts4Homeless : https://www.haircuts4homeless.com/Produced by : https://svnty6production.com/Artwork by : https://www.dvsyart.com/Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/hear-me-see-me. Scott Lipps on "WWD": “If you look at the fashion business now as opposed to when I started One almost 16 years ago, it's shifted in incredible ways. It's really important to me to do something that is an agency for the future,” he said. “A lot of the talent agencies in L.A. like CAA do a lot of packaging where they package television shows and producers and writers, where it's almost like a 360-degree kind of company. So the idea is we're going to have creatives and influencers under our umbrella to be able to create content for brands and also to be able to make sure that content gets distributed in a way where we're working with people who are at the stage where they can get the word out there hopefully in a viral manner by using our talent pool. I don't really see companies in this space who have done that.” The Lipps LA team has over 40 years experience in the industry - Scott Lipps started One management, in NYC, in 2001 and is supported by his team , Anahid Krile who was the Director of Women at LA Models for many years. Education For AllLockdown was hard for everyone but what we don’t hear about are the stories of those who faced starvation and destitution, simply because they couldn’t go to school. This was the situation faced by students of the Malaika school in the Democratic Republic of Congo only a few months ago. The school, founded 13 yrs by model and philanthropist Noella Coursaris Musunka provides a free and holistic education to 370 girls from the ages of 5-18. Before the school, the village had no water, electricity or healthcare, but since then it not only has a school and community centre, but 20 wells providing clean water. As well as this they provide sports programmes, adult vocational skills and IT classes to around 5200 people. So you can see that this is a much needed and impactful programme.Women Supporting WomenPost lockdown there is a lot of work to be done. Malaika have partnered with rental platform Hurr to raise much needed awareness and funds for the school and community. I was incredibly lucky to get to speak to Noella and Victoria, the CEO and Co Founder of Hurr on the day the campaign launched. Wear to Care offers renters an opportunity to rent pieces donated by incredible celebrities including Helena Christensen, Thandie Newton, June Sarpong, Eve and Natalia Vodianova, as well as brands such as Vilshenko, Roland Mouret and Roksanda. All the money raised goes directly to the school. Not only that but Hurr are using the amazing community that they have fostered around their peer to peer rental service to encourage women to sponsor girls at the school. The campaign seeks to highlight the power of female friendship and the importance of empowering each other through knowledge, finance and holistic support. We all know that when young girls are given these things, their potential to thrive is improved exponentially. We hope you feel uplifted and inspired by our conversation with these two amazing women. With thanks to our inspiring guests, Noëlla Coursaris Musunka and Victoria PrewMentioned in the episodeMalaika SchoolHurrCharlie CollinsVideo of girlsHurr InstagramMalaika InstagramPlease Support The Vendeur & Join Our CommunityInstagramFacebookPinterestSeries Credits Host Lucy KebbellTheme created by Joe Murgatroyd

In episode forty seven of the Glow Journal podcast, host Gemma Watts talks to celebrity esthetician and founder of Angela Caglia Skincare, Angela Caglia. What do Barbra Streisand, Sting, Chrissy Teigen, Noami Watts and Helena Christensen have in common? Their esthetician, Angela Caglia. Even if you don’t have a vested interest in skin, or even in business, listening to Angela is so inspiring based on just how passionate she is about what she does. When she speaks of skin, it’s the vocal equivalent of someone’s eyes lighting up. Born in California, Angela Caglia became infatuated with Paris after watching Elsa Klensch on CNN. A summer spent studying abroad in the city served as Angela’s introduction to spa facials- something of a foreign concept in the US at the time. Upon her return, Angela did a double take as she walked past a newly opened Yon-Ka salon, then walked in and asked if she could work the front desk. From there, she became an esthetician, later working in New York before returning to Los Angeles and establishing herself as one of the world’s most in-demand facialists. It was during a facial at Barbra Streisand’s home in Malibu that Angela felt compelled to create her own line of products, a story best told by Angela but prompted when Barbra, inches from Angela’s face, looked up into her eyes and said “And what’s your dream?” Between 2016 and 2017 Angela Caglia launched her namesake skincare collection and opened the Angela Caglia Skin Spa in Bel Air. This episode was recorded remotely, myself in Melbourne and Angela in Los Angeles, so if you would prefer to read the interview you can find the complete transcript on glowjournal.com. Also, for anyone feeling stressed or may need something to lull them into a state of rest, listening to Angela very softly describe the sensory experience that is one of her signature rose quartz facials is the most relaxed I’ve felt in some months. In this conversation, Angela and I discuss the narrative surrounding men and skincare, how and why your skincare routine could be causing your skin concerns, and how Sting’s chef helped Angela with one of her most important facials ever. You can read this interview now at: glowjournal.com/interview-angela-caglia Follow Angela Caglia Skincare on Instagram at @angelacagliaskincareStay up to date with Gemma on Instagram at @gemkwatts and @glow.journal, or get in touch at hello@gemkwatts.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Richard Lowenstein first met Michael Hutchence when he was 23 making music videos for the likes of Hunters & Collectors and Cold Chisel. Michael liked what Richard made and commissioned him to make some music videos for INXS.  Little did Richard know almost 40 years later he’d be the man making a documentary about his best mates life. The good. The bad and all the mysteries that followed him until the very end.  Richard’s documentary, Mystify: Michael Hutchence is a captivating movie filled with rarely-seen footage and intimate home videos of Michael’s life - at home, on holidays, backstage, on the road, even in bed. Royals: Minutes 2.5 to 8 In this episode of Gossip with Celebitchy, we talk about the rumors that Duchess Meghan already had the baby, which convinced me for a little while. Then we got reports from Buckingham Palace that the baby had not been born yet. We talked about hoping they release the baby’s name soon, unlike when Kate and William had Louis and didn’t announce it for five days. Plus we talked about a story we didn’t cover on the site, The Sussex Royal Instagram unfollowing everyone except mental health accounts. We wonder if we’re going to have to update the podcast with baby news but obviously we didn’t have to! Game of Thrones: Minutes 8 to 15 The Long Night, episode 3 of this last Game of Thrones season, was the first episode I’d watched live in five years. Chandra recommended two better battle episodes for me to watch, Hardhome and The Battle of The Bastards. We also talked about the very dark cinematography which had so many viewers complaining and the cinematographer getting quite defensive about it. Taylor Swift: Minutes 15 to 20 We talk about what a regression ME! is for Taylor Swift’s look and sound. We both love the video where she falls in love with a little ragdoll kitchen and realizes its for adoption. We also discussed the controversy over Taylor Swift using a drumline in her Billboard Music Awards Performance which was evocative of Beyonce’s performance at Coachella. Helena Christensen and our boobs: Minutes 20 to 23.5 Former British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman wrote a horrible critique of Helena Christensen’s fashion using Helena’s age and body type. We discussed how ageist this is and talk about whether we’d wear bustiers as outerwear. We also both wanted to know what it’s like to have each other’s boob type. Oprah’s fabulous interview: Minutes 23.5 to to 25.5 Chandra loved Oprah’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter and was fascinated by Oprah’s thoughts and how she’s grown. We talk about the sexism Oprah experienced at 60 Minutes and why she left CBS. We laugh about Oprah shooting down Beto O’Rourke’s Presidential run. Anjelica Huston’s batsh-t interview: Minutes 25.5 to 30 Anjelica Huston, 67, gave an awful interview to Vulture where she trashed Penny Marshall and Carrie Fisher for doing drugs, defended Roman Polanski and pretty much said that statutory rape was ok in Europe when she was growing up so it’s no big deal. Chandra knew about Anjelica’s terrible childhood and how she might have ended up this way, although she doesn’t get a pass. Ghost stories with Hecate: Minutes 30 to 43 When Hecate/Kat covered Sting’s ghost story she shared one of her own stories, opening a fascinating and chilling discussion in the comments. I talk to her about some of her experiences and they scare me so much. She grew up with a Baptist ghost and has another creepy story about a little girl haunting her family’s cabin. Talk with my mom: Minutes 43 to 48 When I talked to Hecate I remembered an incident from my childhood. I called my mom to see if she remembered it and her answer surprised and moved me. The blind item from last week and user feedback: Minutes 48 to 52.5 We talk about the blind item from last week about a 90s icon Chandra spoke to and whether anyone got it right in the comments. We got really nice feedback about our Amazon posts and our Royals coverage. Thanks to everyone on Twitter who retweets and likes our podcast posts! Comments of The Week: Minutes 52.5 to 55 My comment of the week is from Hanahk on the Game of Thrones is too dark story. Chandra’s comment of the week is from GenericUserName123 on the Taylor Swift cat adoption story. The stories and photos we talk about can be found at https://www.celebitchy.com/podcast/ and https://www.celebitchy.com/?p=619877
