This is one of Mark's favorite episodes, where he got to speak one on one with Terra and, even better, got to hear her sing live. Singer-Songwriter and YouTube pioneer Terra Naomi joined Mark in studio for some terrific conversation and musical magic Terra talked about singing as an infant before she could walk, growing up with hippie parents who grew some interesting crops, how her song “Say It's Possible” went viral and how she was the #1 musical artist on YouTube for a time, how she connects with her fans, how signing with Island Records turned out to be a mistake and a learning experience, how Al Gore inspired her to write the song that would change her life and how she accidentally sent Vice-President Gore a Friendster request, how it felt to sing to 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium for the Live Earth concert which earned her props from Spinal Tap and Jamie Lee Curtis. Terra also sings “Machine Age” and “For My Last Number” live in studio
Ubotica, the leader in SPACE:AI, have announced another significant milestone in Live Earth Intelligence with its CogniSAT-6 satellite mission: successful onboard AI detection of objects on Earth and immediate relay of insights to users on the ground. This marks the world's first commercial deployment of Live Earth Intelligence, setting a new standard for real-time space-based insights. The Challenge of Traditional Earth Observation Earth has an observation problem. Today's Earth Observation (EO) satellites don't understand what they're observing; they simply gather data and downlink it all for delayed on-ground processing. Earth Observation today is slow, expensive, and overly complex. SPACE:AI: The Future of Earth Observation Ubotica's CogniSAT-6 mission, launched in partnership with Open Cosmos in March this year, changes this paradigm. Powered by Ubotica's SPACE:AI platform, it revolutionises Earth Observation by enabling satellites to understand what they see and to deliver affordable, real-time and actionable insights crucial for economic growth, climate monitoring, and global security. Groundbreaking Milestone in Live Earth Intelligence CogniSAT-6 recently captured an image over Khor Fakkan, UAE, and within minutes, SPACE:AI identified 142 ships outside the port at an impressive rate of 21.3 km of image data processed per second. Rather than today's methods that wait until a satellite passes over a downlink ground station to transmit images, which can delay insights by days, CogniSAT-6 uses a real-time inter-satellite communications network to immediately relay insights to ground. Another observation was of Galveston, Texas, USA, which is the gateway to Houston. Again in seconds, SPACE:AI identified 37 ships entering the channel and instantly relayed insights to ground. Ubotica's team pioneered a sophisticated synthesis flow, creating realistic image training sets that precisely simulated the CogniSAT-6 imager's output. This advanced approach enabled our algorithms to generate accurate insights from the very first images captured in orbit, demonstrating Ubotica's leading-edge expertise in space technology. Beyond Ship Detection: Metadata and Multimodal Earth Observation Applications SPACE:AI not only identifies vessels but also extracts valuable metadata, including location, size, and orientation. This metadata, relayed to ground in real-time, can then be combined with AIS (Automatic Identification System) data to detect potentially "dark" ships engaged in illegal or suspicious activities. Ship detection is just one Earth Observation application of SPACE:AI. The platform supports hundreds or even thousands of different Earth Observation applications by making it easy for developers to train, test, and deploy different models for their specific use cases. In the examples above, SPACE:AI could detect illegal bilge or oil discharges from ships or assess the health of marine habitats, such as early detection of algal blooms that can impact marine ecosystems and human activities. Unlocking Live Earth Intelligence SPACE:AI is more than just image capture and processing; it's about unlocking the valuable, real-time insights hidden within Earth Observation data. Ubotica's technology is revolutionising the industry, making Earth Observation faster, more affordable, and more actionable. "This is a paradigm shift for Earth Observation. The industry has long sought a model of live Earth intelligence, where insights are generatedonboard satellite and instantly relayed to ground. The CogniSAT-6 mission is the first to achieve Live Earth Intelligence, revolutionising the capabilities and cost-efficiency of Earth Observation", said Fintan Buckley, CEO of Ubotica. Ubotica, the leader in SPACE:AI, and Open Cosmos, has announced a significant milestone in the CogniSAT-6 mission: the successful processing and instant AI-powered detection of the first raw image from the newly launched satellite. SPACE:AI: Ushering in Earth Observation 2.0 Today's Earth Observation satellites are fundamentally data collectors. They don't understand what they're observing; they simply gather data and downlink it all when passing over a ground station. But what if they could understand what they're seeing? With SPACE:AI, they can. SPACE:AI unlocks the full potential of Earth Observation satellites by empowering them with real-time vision processing. Ubotica's flight-proven, end-to-end AI platform transforms these satellites into intelligent, efficient and always connected observers. SPACE:AI at Work: Ship Detection at Jeddah Port Consider this first raw satellite image taken by CogniSAT-6 of the port and ocean near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The challenge: quickly identify all ships in the area. For the first time, an Earth Observation satellite, powered by SPACE:AI, understands what it sees. Within 90 seconds, SPACE:AI detected every vessel within a 20 x 40-kilometre zone. This achievement demonstrates the model's exceptional accuracy, even without prior training on CogniSAT-6 data. Live Earth Intelligence: Instant Insights, Global Impact CogniSAT-6 is designed to share these insights instantly. Through persistent inter-satellite communication, ship detection data can be relayed to users on Earth in real-time. This enables users to interact directly with the satellite, requesting more information or adjusting its focus. SPACE:AI's ship detection capabilities represent a significant advancement in the field. Unlike traditional methods requiring extensive training on thousands of processed images, SPACE:AI can perform real-time, on-board identification of ships from a single, raw, unprocessed image without prior training specific to the imager or sensor. This breakthrough technology dramatically simplifies and accelerates the process of extracting valuable information from Earth Observation data. "This successful demonstration proves the advanced capabilities of CogniSAT-6 and our commitment to unlocking the true potential Earth Observation," said Fintan Buckley, CEO of Ubotica. "Near real-time analysis of satellite data unlocks new possibilities for timely and effective decision-making across numerous sectors." Sean Mitchell, Chief Commercial Officer at Ubotica, added, "The performance of our ship detection model, combined with our rapid processing pipeline, showcases SPACE:AI's transformative potential. We're excited to see this technology in action and anticipate the significant impact CogniSAT-6 will have across industries." See more stories here.

A pioneer of the Australian music industry, Michael Chugg or Chuggi as he is affectionately known, has garnered a reputation both locally and internationally as one of the country's most prominent music promoters, and is a name synonymous with some of biggest tours to have come through Australia and New Zealand over the past 50 years. Chugg's foray into the music industry began in his hometown of Launceston, Tasmania in 1962, where he cut his teeth from the age of 15 running dances and managing bands until he relocated to Melbourne in 1969. In 1979 together with Michael Gudinski and Phil Jacobsen, Chugg co-founded the Frontier Touring Company. Their first tours were with Squeeze and The Police, with Frontier going on to become the biggest promoter in Australia at the time, touring the likes of Frank Sinatra, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Guns N' Roses, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and more. In 2000, Chugg went out on his own to launch Michael Chugg Entertainment, which later became Chugg Entertainment. Over the past twenty years, the company has toured over 600 Australian and international artists, making Chugg one of the most prominent and respected promoters not only in Australia, but also around the world. The numerous industry accolades that Michael Chugg has picked up over the years are testament to his incredible impact on the Australian music industry; he has been named as Pollstar's International Promoter of the Year four times, has twice picked up the Best Promoter gong at the International Live Music Conference, received the prestigious ARIA Icon Award in 2019, and has a multitude of Billboard Awards, Helpmann Awards, Country Music Awards, Musexpo Awards and many more under his belt. In June 1998, Michael was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia on the Queen's birthday, in recognition of his contribution to the Australian music industry and his philanthropic involvement with various charities. Chugg's philanthropic undertakings are extensive; he has been heavily involved in developing and co-promoting some of the country's biggest charity events to date, launching Wave Aid (2005), Live Earth (2007) and Sound Relief (2009), which raised millions of dollars toward respective charities. He was a Board Member of the Prince of Wales Children's Foundation, Support Act Ltd and F.A.C.E. (Entertainment for Australian Armed Forces), and sat on the NSW Arts Advisory Council Board. Additionally, Chugg is a trustee of the Golden Stave Foundation committee, which has over the years raised millions for the Paraquad Association, Camperdown Children's Hospital, the Shepard Centre, Nordoff Robbins and the Starlight Foundation.

In this episode, we tackle the climate crisis and the subsequent threats to health. We examine the positive impacts that Covid has had on the climate emergency, in reduced energy demands and reduced oil prices. We’ve seen financial institutions start to sit up and take notice of the knock-on effect the climate emergency has on their bottom line.. Australia is a laggard when it comes to climate change, but, countries such as India are moving forward in leaps and bounds towards a Net Zero goal. Healthcare workers need to unite globally to put pressure on Governments and institutions to make change for the better. One such institution is superannuation organisations. This giant is projected to be worth $10 trillion by 2038. Putting pressure on super funds, asking what they are doing about the climate crisis, is one way we will be able to make a difference. On the other hand, institutions such as the NHS are committed to reaching a Net Zero target by 2040. Why are they doing this? Well, they have listened to the science which says that climate change is the biggest health threat of the 21st century. This is no longer something that we can ignore, this is no longer something that we can afford to be complacent about. These are very real threats which we need to address today. Tune in to be inspired and help change for the better. Action feels better than anxiety. For more head to: codachange.org/podcasts

In this episode I discuss the importance of getting that moisture to go down deep into the soil. Introduce a product from Live Earth called Soil Conditioner. Soil Conditioner will help the soil structure, it will unlock many of the nutrients that are inside the soil and allow those nutrients to become available to the root of the plant. Remember, one of the keys to success with the garden is a soil/ water relationship. Points to keep in mind regarding a soil/ water relationship are: Good water holding capacity Good drainage At least 25 percent organic matter in the soil profile Enjoy the garden
How to encourage healthier camellia's and azaleas. Applying phosphorous to enhance flower and root development. Use soil conditioner from Live Earth in conjunction with bone meal to enhance plant health care. Do not apply any nitrogen fertilizers to either the azalea's or camellia's. Other beneficial cultural practices include, but no limited to: Application of mulch on the soil around the base of the plants Irrigation management, use drip irrigation as compared to spray head irrigation. Do not prune the crowns of either the camellia's or azaleas's now, the shrubs are producing flower buds. Pruning now, would remove the flower buds. The only pruning that is to be done now is only remove dead wood from the interior of either the azalea's or camellia's.

Peter de Koning from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is a drummer and also the creator of Live Earth 2020, which will happen on August 29-30, 2020. Peter was only 6 years old when he started tapping on everything and was 8 when he got a drum kit. His sisters were in the marching band and it inspired him, so he joined marching bands and then the drum and bugle corps and it became his passion. He says, when he is not able to play for a while, he can really feel it; he needs to play and move with music and there are moments of flow with the marching band that are so great. His new project, Live Earth 2020, came about when he was doing sustainability work in Montenegro and decided to ride a bike back home to Amsterdam with his drum kit trailing behind the bike, as he rode through Croatia, Bosnia, Italy, and Austria. “The purpose of it,” he says, “was to give some concerts at beautiful locations for the earth.” He would get his drum kit out at a place that he felt was good and play to honor the earth and things that had happened at those places. Then, he came up with the idea of Live Earth 2020; “Why not organize … a concert for earth to pay tribute to the earth?” He says that Victor Wooten talks about the intention of playing music and Peter believes that playing for Mother Earth with the intention of honoring her and showing gratitude will be very beneficial. The goal is to gather 1,000 musicians and indigenous peoples from around the plant to perform and conduct ceremonies almost at the same time. He hopes artists will find nice places in nature, or wherever feels good, to give a concert, or dance, or make some art to pay tribute to Earth with that intention. It is free to sign up and participate at the website www.liveearthconcert.org. Peter says that he feels music and dance are the closest spiritual connections we can have. He sees in the future also addressing reconciliation with the earth for all of the awful things that humans have done and to focus on the good after the pandemic. He believes it is important to pay attention to the artists and the freedom thinkers to achieve a better world.

[av_social_share title='Share this entry' style='' buttons='' custom_class='' admin_preview_bg=''] Episode Summary Let’s get real in this episode on data and understanding what works for you. Geoff Livingston provides knowledge based on his many experiences working with nonprofits that took years to learn. Data is full of surprises and if you watch carefully, you can find trends that help you better connect with your audience and actually get your message in front of your donors in way that catches and holds their attention. Knowing your audience not only allows you to tailor your communication to your target market’s preferences, but it also allows your organization to come across as one that is familiar with its supporters. “Repetition builds familiarity” after all. Best practices and benchmarks are a great way to see what’s happening on a larger scale and they can certainly help guide you in your marketing, but there is a lot to be said for studying your own data and finding what works for you; because, what works for someone else may not necessarily be what works for you and what works for you may not be accurately represented by these industry trends. Know your people. Know yourself. And to thine own self, be true. (William Shakespeare) How? Data. Lots of it. Today, Dan tells Jordan about the very weird time when Alex Jones somehow got David de Rothschild to call into his show. At the time, David was promoting the 7/7/07 Live Earth concerts and the book about climate change that he had written, but instead of really talking about any of that, Alex decides to be a huge dick and spout antisemitic conspiracy theories about his guest's family. It is a mess.

Our 28th podcast closes out, for now, our obsessive coverage of the livestock connection to global warming and the Al Gore movement with a visit to Live Earth from July 7. Then there is a song, Sierra, from Kyle Vincent and a Science Fact featuring yet another study showing that forgoing meat is a more powerful way to fight global warming than changing your driving habits or light bulbs.

The earth was shaking here in Japan! We talk about the Live Earth event on 07-07-07; a language segment: be used to something, get used to something; learn about a couple of IDIOMS -- short end of the stick, stick up for someone or something. PODnobbing looks at other English learning podcasts, and some quotations from Albert Einstein. More at englishteacherjohn.com.

Live Earth - A 2,000,000,000 Person Failure? Why The Right Can't Let Al Gore Win.
In an unprecedented show of unity, many of us held hands and danced to the fabulous music. But now it's the morning after and global warming is still here... and getting warmer! Why are some governments resistant to doing something to stop it? What can we do to help, one person at a time? Join Dr. Carole and her guest, Lance Webster, Founder and Administrative Director of ECO (Earth Communications Office), to find out.
Live Earth was seen and heard around the world for 24 hours this weekend with nine concerts on seven continents. Will it advance Al Gore's "Green Revolution" or allow a massive audience to feel better without the changes that could make a difference? Also, the White House's "agonizing reappraisal" of Iraq strategy, and Boeing's new Dreamliner.
