Today, I talked about Elder Kacher's talk “Ladder of Faith.” And we're talking about, you guessed it, faith! Here are some questions to think about: Is there something happening in your life that you don't want to happen? Are you able to see other ways the Lord is blessing you or guiding you? How do you increase your faith in Jesus Christ? What miracles have you seen in your life today? “Am I stripped of pride? Do I give place in my heart for the word of God? Do I allow my afflictions to be consecrated for my gain? Am I willing to let my will be swallowed up in the will of the Father? If I have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, can I feel so now? Do I let God prevail in my life?” Consider his invitation: “May we plant the seeds of faith deep in our hearts. May we nourish these seeds as we bind ourselves to the Savior by honoring the covenants we have made with Him.” What is the Lord telling you? What questions do you want to study further? A Great Lifestyle And 18,000% Return In The Stock Market with Gil Morales & Chris Kacher Episode 30 of the Desire To Trade Podcast features Gil Morales and Christian Kacher from Virtue Of Selfish Investing. They discuss their philosophies on life and trading following the several books they wrote together. Aspiring traders would envy Gil and Christian' lifestyles of travel and discovery. At the time of our interview, Christian was in Buenos Aires. The book I first noticed, co-authored by Gil and Chris, is called Trade Like an O'Neil Disciple: How We Made 18,000% in the Stock Market. Gil Morales Gil began his investment career in 1991 as a stockbroker in the Beverly Hills branch of Merrill Lynch. In 1994 he joined PaineWebber, Inc. where he quickly achieved Chairman's Club status as a top producer. In 1997, William O'Neil personally recruited Mr. Morales to join William O'Neil + Company, Inc. where he spent the next eight years as a Vice-President, internal Portfolio Manager responsible for managing a portion of the firm's proprietary assets, and Manager of the O'Neil Institutional Services group responsible for advising over 500 of the largest and most successful institutional investors in the world, including mutual fund, pension fund, and hedge fund clients. Chris Kacher Chris went on to generate triple digit percentage returns for six years in a row during the 1995-2000 period before moving to cash for most of the 2000-2002 bear market, one of the worst in history. From 1996-2001, he served as chief research analyst for William O'Neil + Company, the New York Stock Exchange member firm, institutional research provider, and publisher of Investor's Business Daily newspaper. During this period, William O'Neil hand-picked Dr. Kacher to manage a portion of the firm's proprietary capital, whereupon Dr. Kacher became a top internal portfolio manager at the company. Chris has a very interesting educational background as he received his B.S. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from University of California at Berkeley, where he co-discovered Element 110 on the Periodic Table of Elements and confirmed the existence of Element 106 for which his team named Seaborgium. Musically gifted, Dr. Kacher was classically trained on the piano beginning at age 3, composing his first song at age 5 which he called "Night Fog," and performing as a concert pianist from ages 5 to 12 in high-profile cities in the US and Japan. He released his debut CD comprised of 21 original piano compositions in 2009. What’s covered in the podcast? How Gil & Chris started to trade with very different backgrounds How Gil & Chris Made 18,000% return in the stock market What is their trader's lifestyle Fantastic pieces of wisdom And so much more... Chris and Gil explain their investment philosophy and concepts born out of frustration with other market strategies failing, relating how they were able to get through the market crash and the continued instability. Michael Covel speaks with traders Chris Kacher and Gil Morales, authors of the new book "In The Trading Cockpit with the O'Neil Disciples: Strategies that Made Us 18,000% in the Stock Market". Their book is a step-by-step instruction guide to implementing Morales and Kacher's trading methods. Covel starts off by asking Kacher and Morales about the "fiscal cliff", why quantitative easing is not the answer to economic growth, and why all of this isn't necessarily relevant to making money. None of it matters if the Dow ultimately goes from 13,000 to 26,000. Regardless of your political views you shouldn't be sitting on the sidelines if that happens. Ultimately, the trend is your friend. In a pure trading mindset, all this news, the fiscal cliff, the debt limits--they aren't necessarily relevant to making money. Covel, Kacher, and Morales go on to talk about their new book, "In The Trading Cockpit with the O'Neil Disciples"; the "O.W.L." ethos, and the story behind it; reversion to the mean mentality, and how it can often be the kiss of death for traders and investors; trading psychology, the idea that "you must lose to win", how the least important statistic is your percentage of gains v. losses in your trading account; dealing with emotionalism and why clients often want to hear something that will make them feel better; teaching people to let go of the news and simply watch the price action; why people think that "this time is different", put their trust in the central economy, and why trend following will survive into the future; understanding that investing is always a process of changing along the way; and what mental clutter in the way of fears, biases, concerns and more can build up in the mind and get in the way of clear and decisive decision-making. Michael Covel talks to trader and author Gil Morales. Morales got started in the early 90s, became a broker with Merrill Lynch in Beverly Hills, and moved on to work as a portfolio manager and ultimately chief market strategist at William O'Neil's firm (of IBD and CANSLIM fame). Morales eventually moved onto his own investment advisory firm with with Chris Kacher. His book with Kacher is called "Trade Like an O'Neil Disciple: How We Made 18,000% in the Stock Market". Covel compares Morales' trend trading style to his via a comparison of going to Tokyo the first couple of times: It's a parallel world - everything is different, but they're ultimately trying to achieve the same thing. Covel also gets into some of Morales' unexpected beginnings. Morales actually started as a cartoonist, and discusses his early influences during this phase of his career. He also relates some interesting stories working at the Beverly Hills branch of Merrill Lynch. Covel and Morales go into a broad overview of William O'Neil's strategies, which ultimately provide the stepping stone for Morales' strategies today. Covel and Morales discuss how "you can't kiss all the babies", and how you have to keep from getting distracted with too many potential investments. Further topics include how O'Neil's system is trend following at its core; fibonacci sequences, the moment of "now"; getting away from the rationale and the narrative of the trend; and why losers average losers.
