Turn communication breakdowns into trust-building moments. Transformation TalksWith Donny ShimamotoCenter for Accounting TransformationIn the latest episode of Transformation Talks, host Donny Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, CGMA, leads a powerful discussion on “assumed discrimination”—the cultural collisions that happen when others project bias onto someone's words or actions. MORE TRANSFORMATION TALKSJoining him are Arianna Campbell, COO of Boomer Consulting; Ed Kless, co-founder of THRESHOLD and co-host of The Soul of Enterprise; and Amy Welch, APR, CAE, mission advocacy strategist with the Center for Accounting Transformation and SVP/executive producer for CPA Trendlines. The episode begins by reframing how we talk. “Discussion” implies conflict, while “dialogue” is about listening. “The origin of ‘discussion' is literally ‘to strike,'” says Kless. “But dialogue means ‘twin telling.' That shift in mindset is everything.”
In an era when traditional models fail, accountants should rethink relevance, client experience, and the power of language.Accounting Influencerswith Rob BrownAccounting visionary Ed Kless challenges the profession to move beyond the traditional billable hour and embrace a proactive, subscription-based model. In this episode of Accounting Influencers, Kless, known for his strong stance on abolishing hourly billing, offers actionable insights into how accountants can redefine their services and stay relevant in an evolving landscape.Full Show Notes Here | More Accounting Influencers with Rob Brown hereKless wastes no time challenging one of the industry's longest-standing practices: billing by the hour. "It's an absolutely dead model, and it's a problem not only for accountants but also for their customers,” he argues. By emphasizing efficiency over effectiveness, Kless says hourly billing creates a barrier to innovation and true client satisfaction. "Think about it—if you had a brain tumor, would you want an efficient surgeon or an effective one?” he asks, underscoring the need for quality service over rigid time-tracking.
Who Should Listen? Credit lenders, Managing Partners, Investors, and RIA's Topics:Factors and Complexities Within the Current MarketChallenges That RIA's FaceThe Future of Private Credit...and so much more.Top Takeaways“The market has been more dynamic over the last six months than over the last six years.” Jordan, Aaron, and Joe dive into the dynamic nature of the present market landscape They point out that the lenders struggling today might be different from the ones struggling in six months. It's important to realize that what we think about someone's market position might not always be true. The path RIAs need to take to succeed. These obstacles include balancing liquid and private credit investments, navigating the diverse landscape from major funds to smaller enterprises, and addressing educational gaps. Recognizing trends like equity and credit secondaries can drive market evolution despite these hurdles. Success in the credit markets depends on understanding different segments and investment strategies, empowering RIAs to prepare better and achieve success.“The shift we've seen is permanent”. When it comes to the future of the private credit market, Aaron acknowledges how some believe that the high returns associated with private credit may be dwindling and that investors are becoming wary of the asset class. Joe explains that this is just the beginning of a significant transformation in credit markets, with private credit set to play an even larger role in the financial landscape in the future.

Ron presented his Top 10 Pricing Lessons, and John wrote a fantastic recap of this presentation, including additional links, etc. I asked Ed to list his Top 10 Pricing Lessons over these past years, so we will present both of our lists below, along with specific links to prior shows where we covered these topics.
We are sorry folks. John Stossel had to cancel because an injury. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him on in the future. We decided to discuss a Ron's Pricing Masterclass that he presented in Melbourne, Australia on May 30, 2018 at the launch of our VeraSage colleagues' (Liz Harris, John Chisholm, and David Wells) new consulting firm, Innovim.
Ron and Ed have talked project management before, but the focus was always around project planning and scope creation. In this episode, they conversation shifts to project execution and the tools needed as well as some actual predictive indicators for project completion that are NOT time based. If you have ever asked, What replaces the timesheet? this episode is for you.

This episode is dedicated to the possibility that quality is not objective goodness but rather conformance to a requirement. For a professional this means the customer's requirement, not just professional standards. Viewing quality in the light is challenging to our minds and not something easily grasped. If you want to think along with Ron and Ed more deeply about the issue of quality and its relationship to both the professional and the customer, you are invited to listen to this episode of the podcast.

Ron and Ed were at Sage Summit 2017 in Atlanta and recorded an episode (or two) featuring a great panel discussion on the premise that accounting and innovation are not opposites (i.e. not an oxymoron). While the job description for accounting professionals has largely stayed the same, technologies and laws have come into play to change the way business is done. It is time that accountants alter the way they do business to keep up with the shifting tide. Panelist Jodie Padar Gail Perry Gary Boomer Tom Hood
