Takeaways: The 1952 NFL season marked a significant turnaround for the Detroit Lions, who had not reached a championship game in 17 years, showcasing the evolution of the team under new leadership. Randy Snow elaborated on the foundational role of Coach Bo McMillan in assembling key players, including Hall of Famers Bobby Lane and Doak Walker, pivotal to the Lions' success in the early 1950s. The championship game of 1952, played in Cleveland, was characterized by a strong defensive display from both teams, culminating in a 17-7 victory for the Lions, despite Bobby Lane's subpar performance. Several Hall of Famers participated in the 1952 championship game, highlighting the caliber of talent on both sides, including Otto Graham for the Browns and various Lions legends who contributed to the victory. The Lions' 1952 season concluded with a 9-3 record, illustrating their competitive strength, alongside a notable winning streak and successful home performance throughout the season. The historical significance of the 1952 NFL championship game is underscored by the unique rules of the time, including a controversial penalty that negated a potential Browns touchdown, shaping the outcome of the match.

Innovation, AI, and next-gen leaders must successfully adapt to constantly changing landscapes.Accounting Influencerswith Rob BrownThe accounting profession stands at a crossroads, faced with technological disruption, shifting business models, and an evolving workforce. In a recent episode of the Accounting Influencers podcast, industry leaders Bobby Lane, CEO of Factotum; Tony Szczepaniak, CEO of LEA Global; and Rick Richardson, CEO & Founder of Richardson Media & Technologies, engaged in a dynamic discussion about the state of accounting, the biggest threats facing the profession, and the opportunities ahead.More Accounting Influencers with Rob Brown hereSzczepaniak emphasizes the pressing issue of talent shortages, noting that regulatory bodies are exploring new ways to accelerate certifications and attract non-traditional candidates. He acknowledges that while some firms are innovating, others remain stagnant. "The firms that can clearly articulate their value proposition and adapt to strategic conversations internally will thrive," he asserts.Richardson paints a stark picture of a divided profession, describing it as a "sandwich" where younger professionals are innovating on one side while senior partners near retirement show little interest in transformative change. He warns that attracting young talent requires a shift in perception: "We need to do a better job of selling what accounting really is and what it offers to young professionals. Right now, they see better financial incentives and career growth elsewhere."Lane echoes this concern but offers a different perspective, citing that young professionals are still entering the profession but are more likely to view it as a short-term stepping stone rather than a long-term career path. "They want to gain qualifications, move into financial planning and analysis, corporate finance, or even start their own businesses," he explains. The panel agrees that technology, particularly AI and automation, will significantly impact the profession but not in the way many fear. "People panicked that cloud accounting would eliminate accountants. It didn't. Instead, it shifted the value from processing to advisory services," Lane argues. He sees a similar transition with AI: "The challenge now is for accountants to become translators of numbers, helping businesses interpret and act on financial insights."

Today on Normal World, Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela break down Trump's executive order to declassify the JFK, MLK, and RFK assassination files. What secrets will finally be revealed? Was JFK's assassination a government cover-up or just extreme incompetence?   Jack Ruby's role in Oswald's murder is revisited, with speculation about MK Ultra brainwashing. MLK's assassination sparks debate over government involvement, including the conveniently removed tree that blocked the alleged shooter's view. Meanwhile, the long-standing curse of Bobby Lane and the Lions' struggles lead to a hilarious dive into football superstitions, Taylor Swift conspiracies, and the brutal old-school era of the NFL. Things take a dark turn with the bizarre story of a San Antonio man caught trying to buy a baby for organ harvesting after being mistakenly added to a group text. The crew explores the absurdity of real-world villains, proving once again that reality is often stranger than fiction. This episode of Normal World includes Sam Lopez. Hello and welcome! Our ‘Legends of San Diego Punk' series continues on the pod… Episode 86 is a conversation with one of the great flyer artists of early 80's ‘Slow Death' scene, the very talented artist / tattooer Bobby Lane. Bobby paints a picture of his experiences going to his first shows as a teenager in 1980 just as the ‘hardcore' era was adding a new even more aggressive and stripped down feel to the punk/new wave style that came before. He shares memories of San Diego / Los Angeles punk graphic masters Mad Marc Rude and Shawn Kerri. Two greats whose styles informed his own and pretty much every other punk who's ever picked up a pen in their wake, myself included. We talk about tattooing in San Diego and the evolution of the craft from the earlier period of wall flash, sailors and bikers to the modern era of bespoke designs and market saturation. We go on to discuss how the rebellious spirit at the heart of punk naturally leads to endless cycles of orthodoxy and overthrow as new generations reimagine, reinvent and make it their own. He cites SD experimental/ecstatic collective/band Crash Worship as the embodiment of this spirit without any of the proscribed stylistic cues.  I know you'll enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed talking with Bobby. I look forward to having him back on the pod soon. Thank you for listening! SUPPORT THE POD: Patreon If you love the pod, please tell a friend! It gives men a chance to bond and to be emotionally demonstrative around other men. Jim has worked with professional athletes to help them improve performance and heal from head injuries. However, that work has not prepared him to handle his Lions losing all the time. In this podcast, both Rafael and Jim share their thoughts about managing disappointment and learning to take the wins and losses in stride. Rafael reveals how his value is no longer attached to the final score. He bounces back more quickly than he used to and explains how and why. There is value in learning that our value is not tied to our team's performance, or anyone else's. We all must learn to be more zen when the people we really root for let us down, or we let them down.If you are a Detroit Lions fan, there is little we can offer you in this podcast. We just want to say we are sorry you have suffered since 1958 - - and the curse of Bobby Lane will end some day. If you are a 49ers fan, you have mostly good karma coming your way (fun while it lasted) and you should absolutely listen to this entire podcast.WCMI networking group A networking group for mindfulness-focused clinicians dedicated to learning together & collaborating for more information click here

Detroit Lions           If there is a team in the history of the NFL that has been beaten down more than the Detroit Lions, I haven’t found them yet.  The fan base of the Detroit Lions is one of the most dedicated and patient in all of sports- I give them all the credit in the world for being this way.           The Lions began play in 1928 as the Portsmouth Spartans of Portsmouth, OH.  In 2020, the Lions began their 91st season in the NFL, making them one of the oldest franchises in the NFL.  In 1934, George Richards bought the team for $8,000 and moved them to Detroit, renaming in them the Lions.  Also in 1934, the Lions started playing on Thanksgiving Day- a tradition that spans to this day.           The Lions have won NFL championships in 1935, 1952, 1953, and 1957.  They have also won their division 8 times, and have been to the playoffs 18 times. In the 1950’s the Lions signed quarterback Bobby Lane, who helped them win 3 championships.  In 1958 the Lions traded Lane, who, according to legend, cursed the team, saying they wouldn’t win a championship for 50 years.  In 2008, the year the curse would end, the Lions went 0-16.           In 1963, the Ford family bought controlling interest in the Lions for 4.5 million dollars.  Today, the Lions’ franchise is worth 2.1 billion dollars.          In 1989, the Lions drafted Barry Sanders 3rd overall.  All he would do is rush for 15,269 yards, making him 3rd overall in total yards rushing.           The Lions have an overall regular season record (as of 2020) of 567 wins, 681 loses, and 33 ties, with a playoff record of 7 wins and 13 loses.  They have 6 retired numbers and 14 members of their organization in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.           Interesting facts- 1) Marvin Gaye, a great singer in Motown, tried out for the Lions.  2) The Lions were the opponent in 1970 when Tom Dempsey, the kicker for the New Orleans Saints, kicked a 63 yard field goal, setting a record for the longest field goal in NFL history at that time.  3) Matt Millen is never talked about in polite company in Detroit.           Hope you enjoy this episode of the Football is Family podcast as we talk with Arnie Chapman, the Football History Dude himself.  Please subscribe to this podcast, and, while you are at it, head over to the Sports History Network’s website at sportshistorynetwork.com and look at all the other great content we have to offer. www.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Detroit_Lions www.pro-football-reference.com www.profootballhof.com https://www.statista.com

Welcome to ICAST, the biggest product show in the fishing industry.  It draws every manufacturer, from the largest heritage brands to the smallest, newest, one-man-show start-ups.  It draws every retailer and wholesaler, and scores of media members looking to get the latest scoop on the greatest gear.  In every aisle, you'll see TV personalities and tournament legends.  For anyone connected to the fishing industry, it is the place to be and a dreamland for consumers. And we were there. Pretty cool that a podcast, just a few months old, would be able to get into the biggest angling circus on the planet, but we made it, and we promptly inserted ourselves into every conversation we could, snooped around every booth we could, and tried to dig up every bit of inside information possible so we could share it with you. First, we caught up with Addictive Fishing's Blair Wiggins, who has teamed up with Lew's to create their latest ICAST award-winning rod, the M2.  He told us about the revolutionary American Tackle Wave Guide system he's now using to get more control and distance on every one of his casts.  It all sounded like a bunch of crazy science...until he compared it to a Zebco 202!  He also shared some bad news about his truck, and gave us the lowdown on our very own Scott Shank.  Scotty's been working with Blair and Lew's on the development of the M2s, so The Mogan Man has gotten to know Mr. Shank quite well.  Funny that an icon like him would come to the same conclusions we have about Scotty... Now if you're not an Aussie, you may not have heard of Paul Worsterling and "IFISH with Tackleworld", his landmark television show.  He's a character, great guy, and an outstanding angler...and he was also at ICAST.  Turns out he was streaming live on Instagram when Chris hopped on to share some pics.  Chris checked in, saw where he was, and began running over attendees to chase him down!  After a monstrous haul across the South Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center, Chris caught up with Paul and his family - and promptly butted right into his live streaming event and interviewed him for our podcast!  Yep - an interview recorded during a live stream.  Only in America... And ONLY in America can a guy find himself in the presence of a icon he's watched - and cheered for - for decades with the opportunity to interview him.  Scotty was that guy at ICAST, and Bassmaster legend Gary Klein was that icon.  You know things are going to be interesting when the interviewer starts with "I'm...I'm...I'm speechless!" lol  Anyway, Gary was kind, courteous, and on the money in the short time he was with us.  He shared his perspective on the great aspects of IGFA, and how excited he is to see the industry's involvement in the next generation of anglers. Gary wasn't the only one to be excited about the youth movement happening in the fishing industry.  We were so happy to see so many high school and middle school fishing teams strolling the aisles and checking out the displays with stars in their eyes!  We stopped these gentlemen - the Bartow High School Bass Fishing Team - and had a great conversation with them.  They're 30 members strong, and several former teammates have gone on to earn college scholarships and compete at the next level.  If you're at all worried about fishing when it comes to the next generation, you need to listen to these young men.  They'll put you at ease in a hurry. And if you listen and you're still not convinced that the youth movement is strong as ever, our final interview will definitely convince you.  We caught up with the Okeechobee High School Bass Club as they were huddled around one of their heroes, "Big Fish" Bobby Lane.  We talked with Bobby, and he shared his excitement for the next generation and how much he wants to help them learn to do what he loves to do, thereby perpetuating professional and recreational fishing. The bottom line is this: we saw a lot of great products at IC...

My guest today is a two time Collegiate football National champion with the 1955 and 56 Oklahoma Sooners. He played for the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers and the former AFL Dallas Texans.  Recently retired from 32 years of full-time ministry and a recent inductee into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.  Joining me now is current Chaplain for the Dallas NFL Retired Players Assocaiton, Bill Krisher. Bill sees it as a generational glitch between those who are older and the new tech oriented millenials.   Jeff states that social media is a big contributing factor to this gap. Bill notes that to not knock the Church but the Church has failed in a lot of ways of reaching our youth with the Gospel as it is in God’s Word. Fathers can bridge this gap by spending more time with their children.  Young people need their fathers to fill this gap.  Many women, wives are raising their children. Learn practical steps as a dad to lead your kids and their friends to Jesus Christ.  Learn the importance of going to church, prayer and financial giving.   Give don’t just take. If you’re struggling right now with leading your children closer to God we have some practical steps and solutions for you on today’s podcast episode. Words of encouragement to overcome your focus on career and instead relax and be themselves to not be the guru or most intelligent or hardest worker in the family. It’s important as dads to finish well. Bill talks about his days in the National Football league as Jeff asks him if he learned anything about his days in the NFL to impact youth.  Bill states that during his time with FCA he shared the importance with the youth how important their relationship with Jesus Christ is. Bill and Jeff talk about different sports, football, tennis, and others. Jeff asks Bill to share about his days being recruited by Notre Dame University, Oklahoma State and the University of Oklahoma.  Bill shares a funny story about being recruited by the head coach of Notre Dame and then accepting a scholarship at the University of Oklahoma under head coach Bud Wilkinson. Bill Krisher talks about the only game he lost at the University of Oklahoma the only game he ever lost was against Notre Dame University against legendary quarterback   Bill shares a funny story about a game in 1956 playing for Oklahoma against the University of Texas Longhorns.  He shares a story about snapping off the face mask off the Longhorn center in the Cotton Bowl. He played with Bobby Lane during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bill Krisher shares his story of personal salvation.  Trusting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Jeff states that when you share your testimony when someone else you are reminded how much God loves you and how far he has taken you. Jeff and Bill talk about Jeff’s evangelism training book that is being edited and will be published in 2018.  To pre-order the book send an email to jeff@MenUnplugged.net. Bill states the best moment of his life was when he met his wife.  He met his wife at Coach Tom Landry’s 70th birthday celebration.  He talks about having kids and grandkids. Jeff mentioned his affinity for the Dallas Cowboys and how much he respected the late and great Tom Landry and how he was a man of character and integrity.  Bill confirms that and asked Bill to run the southwest region for FCA. Bill shares the last moment of his career when he lost the game to Notre Dame in the last three minutes.  They lost that game six to zero.  Bill shares that that loss was such a loss to the Sooner fans that nobody left the stands.  Jeff asks if the fans were thinking that maybe there was more time on the clock that they were stunned that they lost. Bill shares a personal habit or discipline that attributes to his success was that he was guick on his feet and he enjoyed hitting people on the football field. The Trauma Therapist | Podcast with Guy Macpherson, PhD | Inspiring interviews with thought-leaders in the field of trauma.

This week we return to the veteran podcast series with Josh Izenberg and his film Resurface which explores the question, How can surfing change the lives of military veterans? I love this series and the individuals who are working to help veterans heal. Josh (along with his colleague Wynn Padula) is a documentary film director based in San Francisco. His most recent film, SLOMO, was featured on the New York Times, was short-listed for an Academy Award, and was the recipient of the prestigious International Documentary Association award for Best Short Documentary, as well as notable awards from SXSW, Sheffield/Docfest and AFI/Docs. Josh has also worked on commercial documentaries for clients on topics covering auto design, green energy, and race car driving. Struggling with trauma and depression after his military service, Iraq war veteran Bobby Lane wanted to cross surfing off his bucket list before taking his life. Resurface tells Bobby's story and explores the question: How can surfing change the lives of military veterans? More and more research has demonstrated the healing effects of surfing on the brain and body. Organizations like the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, Operation Surf and Surf Action are now acting on this research, turning to ocean therapy to help active duty Marines and vets cope with physical and mental trauma. Resurface focuses on these vets and how surfing and the ocean are helping them heal.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-trauma-therapist-podcast-with-guy-macpherson-phd-inspiring-interviews-with-thought-leaders-in-the-field-of-trauma/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast?
