#543 House of Losers - Richard has had a worrying dream, but what can it all mean? His guest is an alien from outer space and not a man in an impressive but ridiculous costume, the artist formerly known as Lord Buckethead, Count Binface. They discuss his reasons for travelling light years to take on sitting Prime Ministers in UK elections, some of his excellent policies involving hand dryers and Ceefax, whether snooker is already in 3 dimensions, losing a bind, whether old people should lose the vote, improving the House of Lords and how the UK's future span out of control due to the Olympic opening ceremony and a bacon sandwich. Will Count Binface become Mayor of Croydon? Christmas was a carnival in which the world was turned upside down - and the Puritans weren't having it. We also discuss the Lord of Misrule, Twelfth Night, and that 21st century lord of misrule: Lord Buckethead!

The 2020 US presidential election is probably the most important in a century. Everything is at stake: from the health of the world’s most powerful nation to the very nature of truth in the modern world. It’s been a frantic race, with many despairing at the divisiveness of modern US politics. But elections don’t always have to be doom and gloom. This week on Passport we take a look at two elections from around the world which tell us a lot about each country and prove the true power of democracy.First, to the UK, for a bizarre story about election night, satire and two intergalactic space lords vying to become Prime Minister. In 2019, a character from an obscure 1980s Star Wars spoof known as Lord Buckethead - picture a budget Darth Vader - was resurrected to stand for election. But he had cylindrical headed competition: Count Binface. In a tale which highlights bizarre copyright law and some absurd quirks of UK politics, these two joke candidates faced off against Boris Johnson, proving British comedy goes all the way to the top, and that satire is the best way to bring politicians down to size. And next, to Uruguay, a tiny country on the Atlantic coast of South America. Well, to a tiny farm in the grasslands outside the capital Montevideo, really. It’s not the most obvious place to look for someone who genuinely changed the world, but on this farm you’ll find Pepe Mujica - an old farmer who ran the country from 2009 - 2015. His story, which saw him transform from anarchist guerilla to peace-loving man-of-the-people president, shows what can happen when pragmatism meets progressive politics. So, if you’re nervously watching the polls or want some respite from it altogether, come on a journey around the world to see what really happens when the smallest of people speak truth to power. For more, including links to the things we talked about, and the places we visited, plus a full transcript, visit: https://frequencymachine.com/passport Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/passport. For TMR's General Election Special—in anticipation of the UK General (S)election on 12th December—we welcome to the programme once again Alan "Howling Laud" Hope, leader of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. Back in 2017, "Howling Laud" joined us to discuss the history, aims and achievements of the UK's most well-known unconventional political party. This time we scrutinse the party's recently-published Election Manifesto and ask why it makes sense to "vote for insanity"—whichever party that happens to be. In 1999, following the death of the party's founder Screaming Lord Sutch—who had led the party through its previous incarnations, such as "National Teenage Party" and "Go To Blazes Party"—OMRLP members voted for their new leader, choosing jointly a cat called Cat-Mandu and his owner Alan "Howling Laud" Hope. Although Cat-Mandu died in 2002 and now serves as one of the party's "spiritual leaders", "Howling Laud" proudly continues as the UK's longest-serving party leader. In Episode 13, Andy and Dave are testing out a new lighting solution in the studio as they prepare for whatever dangers (Star Wars spoilers) exist in the future. This was probably brought on by the unending tales of stupidity they found in preparation for this episode. A man calls 911 for a ride to Hooters. No one knows where chocolate milk comes from. Opium drug rings are run by idiots. And to top it all off, America doesn’t know how to spell.    Or maybe they’re just setting up ambient lighting for their bald, Shakespearean-trained, permanent studio guest…   “NOW THIS IS PODCASTING!”   Dude, did you hear?   We’re drinking Conquista IPA from Coronado and Cigar City Brewing and Golden Helles Lager (aka Bucket Seat Blonde) from Garage Brewing Co. You know, right off the 15. ...Next to THE Shell station.   Quickdraws include a hot new Skittles flavor, an attempted murder of Johnny Cash, the six degrees of Shaquille O’Neil, phone throwing competitions, a T-Rex vs. Chickens fight, and the editor of 50 Shades of Grey.   Andy’s back with more diamond news. This time, a woman buys a $13 piece of costume jewelry at a yard sale and finds out it’s worth A LOT more.   A man called 911 about his grandma having a stroke. He ended up in jail. Somehow, there is a Hooters restaurant in the middle of this story.   A local North Carolina cop was conducting a routine neighborhood patrol and got a lot more than he expected when he knocked on Cody Xiong’s door.   Dave and Andy don’t like to get political but they can get behind several candidates for the British primary election. All hail Lord Buckethead, Mr. Fish Finger and lazy-eyed Elmo!   In a latest national study, the dudes learn that way too many people have no idea where chocolate milk comes from.   McGruff the Crime Dog really likes the taste of crime. He REALLY likes it. One bite was all it took to get hooked on the lifestyle.    Andy recommends the podcast How I Built This. It takes a look at innovators, entrepreneurs and founders of famous brands and movements. It will make you want to quit your job.   Dave recommends Inside Llewyn Davis streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It’s a Coen Brothers movie that has a great cast including: Justin Timberlake, Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren.   Andy generally recommends themed bars. He DOESN'T recommend Bill Cosby roofie themed cocktails for your themed bar.    Dave doesn’t recommend driving distracted. Especially when one of the people driving distracted hit him with their car. He’s shares what the most valuable company in the world is doing about it.   Andy ends the episode highlighting a massive problem that plagues our nation – spelling.       //UNREG_UsEr: STEW4U :// BIN-encryption //YEAR_ZEROARG REF //TNG?
