Manish Vyas: India, its Paths, Traditions, Yoga, Music, Mantra, Spirituality
With roots along the ancient path of Sanatan Dharma, many different roads have been used amid thousands of years to arrive to the same ultimate destination, realize the God within. One of these paths is mantra, the science of sound, by which one can invoke a particular energy through the use of certain sounds. One of the most famous texts has been known as Gayatri Mantra, which is in Sanskrit and comes from the Rig Veda.In the occasion of his recent 8-minute Gayatri Mantra release and his upcoming release of 108-chanting, Manish Vyas presents the subject of Gayatri in a half hour podcast, with very interesting stories and information which may help any person from any background interested in the subject know more about the incredible science of sound from India, and moreover, understand how to approach it.What is the best way to use this mantra, what is its origin, who was the author and the history behind it, what kind of music should be used with it, what are its essential elements, what is Gayatri Sadhana, how to use it for listening meditation or pranayam practice...? These are some of the points covered in this pleasant interview."Important is that the purpose of each mantra is served; the reason why mantras are there, has never been to use them for entertainment, but firstly to be aware of what we are dealing with when we talk about 'mantra' in general and each mantra in particular; and second, use them adequately and if possible keeping in sight their full potential. Then their purpose is served with grace and respect to this ancient practice discovered by enlightened sages, wise ancestors of humanity." Sanskrit has the capacity to express the inexpressible and that's how they came up with the word "Advait." Based on one of the mantras he composed, Shivswarupoham, Manish explains the meaning of the mantra and how it is deeply rooted to the ancient wisdom from India and all its manifestations. Shivoham, Shivoham, Shivswarupoham is an expression of the nature of consciousness in the best way it can be expressed in words, using the language of Sanskrit. A mantra practitioner should have a clear understanding of how mantra practice works and what to expect, and what not to expect. Actually mantra practice should never have expectation, but instead faith. The right attitude is to do the practice of the mantra with faith and with all the possible devotion, and not expect any outcome. The outcome is up to Existence (or God) —not up to us. That is why the first thing that a mantrin should understand is that the right attitude is that of trust and patience, or as Jesus said, the "thy will be done" attitude.
In the mood for an uplifting, scientifically-infused perspective of mantras that includes opportunities to learn and practice for yourself? Please enjoy this week's episode on Mantras with Kundalini yogi, Ravi Singh. Also, be sure to tune in after the interview as an incredibly important announcement is made... ;) Enjoy! 01:14: Mantras: Background & History 05:11: Looking Within: Sweetness of Self 06:55: Most Common Mantras 08:31: Practicing Silent Mantras 11:01: Mantras vs. Religion 13:24: Practicing Spoken Mantras 17:01: Mantras for Enhancing Spiritual/Personal Development 19:28: Mantras & God: The (T)ruth vs. (t)ruth 21:59: Positive Benefits of Mantras Continued 23:28: Explaining & Practicing Sa Ta Na Ma 25:55: Theory of Karma: Cause & Effect 28:01: Mantras & Problem Solving 34:14: Memorable Story of Mantra Practice* 38:11: Mantras vs. Positive Affirmations** 41:35: Neutral Mind: How to Engage in the Q-Anon Discussion*** Ravi's website: raviana.com Email: whatsnextofficial2020@gmail.com IG: @the_PhD_Yogini FB: facebook.com/WNPodcast TO read after listening: * This cute story actually reminds me of a helpful tip for teachers that I learned from a KYT friend. Perhaps, using a white board (with the name of the mantra spelled out in Sanskrit as well as its meaning) would be helpful (when I first began my practice as a student, I found it incredibly beneficial); the former helps with pronunciation and both the former and the latter supports the student to more deeply engage in the present moment/practice rather than them wondering what they're saying and whether they're saying it "right". ** Another helpful tip for positive affirmations: Meet yourself where you're at. For instance, if you are not feeling as though you are "worthy" of God's love, perhaps breaking the affirmation into something more palatable (i.e., that you actually believe) and then slowly scaffolding yourself to deeper levels of love/worthiness may be a worthwhile approach, so as to experience less resistance in the learning/practicing process. Hope this helps! *** Another important point: For me, reviewing secondary sources for accurate/Truthful information feels to lack integrity. I realize it can feel time consuming and energy draining to locate reliable, primary sources on your own; I, myself, am still looking up the debunking reviews and am attempting to discern what is "Truth". All that is to say: NO judgment! Personally, until I can figure it out for myself, I do not feel comfortable taking a "side" as to what is "Truth" as I do not want my ego to drive my interpretation.

Quietmind Astrology — Learn Vedic Astrology with Jeremy Devens
Today begins a new series on how to best manage your time and energy applying the Vedic Astrology teachings of Hora. No matter what your birth chart is like, hora effects us all. Hora is a branch of Jyotish that suggests there are certain times of the day when auspicious actions such as marriage, investments, business transactions, asset purchases, journeys, relationships, meetings and medical treatments can be taken. The Hora is the duration in a day (the duration between sunrise to sunset is divided by 12 equal parts and the next session from the sunset to the sunrise is considered the other 12 parts of the Hora), ruled by a particular planet. In a week, on every day, starting from the dawn to dusk, there are 24 Horas ruled by seven planets. Sun hora begins at sunrise on Sunday. Moon at sunrise on Monday, and so on. This series will help you understand the rolling planet of each hour of the day. When you align yourself with these energies your actions are in alignment with the cycles of the planets. I encourage you to experiment with this and find how it feels resonant for you. If you have a significant task to complete, you may find it helpful to chant the mantra associated with that ruling planet. In each episode I will share a mantra for each planet. The hora is about one hour for each planetary period, repeating in this order: Sun Venus Mercury Moon Saturn Jupiter Mars Today I will share all about the Sun hora When does this hora begin? What activities are favorable during this hora? What activities are not favorable during this hora? What is the mantra for this hora? If you enjoy this podcast, check out the new Quietmind Yoga Membership where I share weekly yoga classes and mini workshops. Today I just posted a new class on creating an Ayurvedic daily routine (Dinacharya). I will soon be adding recordings of mantras for each of the Horas that I share about in this series. http://www.quietmind.yoga/membership to learn more!
