Mary Bue is a songwriter, Nada yogi, traveler, runner, vegan, retreat guide, music + yoga teacher based out of Minneapolis, often roaming this beautiful world. Named Best Songwriter of 2020 by City Pages, her music touches upon archetypal themes of the human condition: love, loss, triumph, dreams, and the natural world. A longtime student of yoga and psychology, Mary weaves sacred subject matter into her songs, seeking of deeper levels of consciousness, and deep concern for the environment mixed into her sometimes crass, real-world hue. Mary Bue is a registered yoga teacher (e-RYT 500), an indie musician, and a teacher in the Viniyoga tradition, a breath-centered, flowing practice that believes in adapting postures to fit the whole person (not forcing a person to fit into a posture!). Mary received her certification at Whole Life Yoga in Seattle, WA by Tracy Weber, (student of Gary Kraftsow, student of T.K.V. Desikachar) and her 300 hour from Yoga Center Retreat (formerly Yoga Center of Minneapolis). In 2020, Mary received an additional 200 hour certificate in Nada Yoga (the Yoga of Sound) from Nada Yoga School in Rishikesh India.

Join me for a short mantra meditation; no previous experience is required. Mantras can help induce a deep state of relaxation and a sense of oneness (connection) to mind and body. Mantras are a great way to focus awareness and attention during meditation. Mantras have been used worldwide for thousands of years in many different cultures and belief systems, including Buddhism, Hinduism and Tantric practices.Mantra can be chanted out loud, internally, or a combination. Some mantras don't have a translation or meaning and use Biji Seed Sounds, which resonate on a cellular level to bring a sense of deep-rooted positive change.Seed sounds are often part of the Nada Yoga tradition (the yoga of sound).
These mystic or heavenly inner Sounds are always resounding in the soul, thus when one attains a certain level of stillness and concentration, spiritual Sound becomes audible. In truth, the inner Sound is always there, it is we (our attention) who come and go. We gain awareness of the Sound, and this creates the illusion that the Sound has "arrived." When we get distracted or leave off our meditation practice it seems to us that the Sound has "stopped." However, this otherworldly Sound continues, like radio waves flowing through the atmosphere, available to be "tuned in" anytime we wish to listen (do bhajan: listen to the inner Sound in meditation). Hinduism is very much a religion of Divine Light and Sound; many Indian scriptures and spiritual traditions teach about the universe being created through the Sound of AUM, the ecstasy of hearing the cosmic flute of Krishna, or hearing the Unstruck Melody (Anhad Shabad) of God that reverberates throughout the universe. Yogis of Nada Yoga and Masters of Shabd Yoga Meditation impart to their students knowledge about developing their inner spiritual sense of transcendental hearing. "The Sound heard internally is a Current which has originally emanated from the Supreme Being and is the means not only of concentrating the will but also of raising spirit entity to the Source from which it emanated... The method for taking back the spirit-entity to its Supreme Source is first to concentrate at the eye-focus [Third Eye], and next to commence its journey homewards by attending to the internal Sound, or in other words, by riding the Life or Sound Current which has originally emanated from the Supreme Source." I Love you,Nik nikki@curlynikki.com p.s. instead of headphones, you can also close your ears using your thumbs, eyes closed, breathing in and out of your nose (mouth closed), and listen inside the head... listen to the Silence for the Sound the Silence is making. "In the beginning was the Sound and the Sound was with God and the Sound was God..." Sadhguru said, “Nada” means sound. If you consecrate and energize that, it becomes Nada Yoga. Today, modern science sees the whole existence as a vibration. Where there is vibration, there is bound to be a sound. So in yoga, we say the whole existence is just a sound. We call this Nada Brahma, which means that the creation and the creator is just sound.” LOVE CHARGING STATION, Live, Daily, Group Practice- 6:30am ET (Spotify LIVE):▶▶ https://apps.apple.com/id/app/spotify-live/id1517524960Bonus content:▶▶https://www.patreon.com/goodmorningsGoOD Mornings merch:▶▶https://www.patreon.com/goodmorningsWeekly LIVE Meditation, Tuesdays at 7pm ET (FREE on Spotify)▶▶ https://spotify.link/meditation_________________________________Today's Quotes: Just knowing, "I have all the blessings, I have the Grace, only the best will happen to me", you should move ahead."-Sri Sri Ravi Shankar"Wherever you may be in this world is your right place at this moment. This is the first of a few interviews Mitchell did with Bhagavan Das in the NYC studio. Bhagavan Das' story is remarkable and shared with you here. In 1963 at the age of 18, Bhagavan Das left California and journeyed solo through Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East, eventually arriving in India. He was the first American to live in the jungle of the Himalayas as a hermit-sadhu. He was given the holy name of Ram by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He then came to meet Swami Chaitanya Prakashananda Tirth who gave him tapas to pray for God's Grace. In 1965, after a year of fasting, prayer and intense purification, Bhagavan Das met his Sat Guru, the Mahasiddha Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaji) who he lived with side by side for many years. Maharaji sent him to Anandamayi Ma to receive initiation from the Divine Mother. Later, during his time with the Tibetan yogis, he was the first westerner to meet and live with Lama Kalu Rinpoche, the guru of the 16th Karmapa. He gave Bhagavan Das the Mahamudra transmission. Bhagavan Das received the Clear Light of Primordial Awareness from His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and then the Vajra Yogini transmission directly from the 16th Karmapa in Sikkim. He lived with Yogi Chen who explained all the details to him in English in his hermitage in Kalimpong. When on pilgrimage to the holy Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, Bhagavan Das met Richard Alpert who became Ram Dass after Bhagavan Das brought him to Maharaji. Then, Bhagavan Das was sent to Amma in the 1980s, who saved him again from the ravages of the world. The Grace of his Sat Guru Maharaji led Bhagavan Das HOME to the Divine Mother in the form of Amulya Maa, his precious Beloved Wife, who is always guiding him on the true path of Bodhichitta with her crystal clarity, ancient wisdom and pure Love. Manish Vyas: India, its Paths, Traditions, Yoga, Music, Mantra, Spirituality
Following the previous interview with Gundecha Brothers, who dedicated their lives to continuing this style of music, we present the part II of the talk, where among other interesting insights, the main topics covered are:The importance of Sanskrit and the connection between Dhrupad and this language, the three notes used in the Vedic chanting style, and the difference between mantra chanting and mantra singing.Dhrupad claims the distinction of being the oldest form of Indian Classical music heard today, its origin can be traced back to the chanting of Vedic hymns and mantras. The birth of Dhrupad as we know it today coincided with the Bhakti movement and consequently was more devotional in nature. It was rendered in temples facing the the Divinity full of devotion and bhaav, this was the genesis of what became known as Haveli Dhrupad/Sangeet. Dhrupad is a body of spiritual and mystical knowledge to be practiced with devotion (Bhakthi) and dedication (Shraddha). It is primarily an act of submission to one's inner spirit, not a tool for entertainment. The Gundecha Brothers from Ujjain, India are classical vocalists of the Dhrupad genre of the Dagar Vani (a tradition of classical Dhrupad of 20 generations tracking back to Swami Haridas.) From 1985 to 2019 the duo consisted of brothers Umakant Gundecha and Ramakant Gundecha and were awarded the Padma Sri for art for 2012. Following the death of Ramakant Gundecha in 2019, his son Anant began to perform with Umakant in the Gundecha Bandhu. They also run a Dhrupad institute outside Bhopal, India, where they teach students from all over the world according to the guru–shishya tradition, or parampara ("lineage"), denoting a succession of teachers and disciples."Dhrupad is the search of the ultimate, the search for a true sound, the eternal sound, the sound of the cosmos. Dhrupad is Nada Yoga - the yoga of sound. It is the best way to get yourself into a calm, peaceful state of mind." Umakant Gundecha"In Dhrupad, we sing the notes in their pure form. Both the performers as well as the listeners experience the life energy in these notes. Dhrupad is therefore really about going deep into the essence of everything, including oneself. You can see yourself through Dhrupad." Ramakant Gundecha

Grammy performer and nominee, Krishna Das, joins us for this profound conversation breaking down the meditative practice of chanting. This is a Universal practice that has the power to deepen the neural pathways in our brains through paying attention again & again while healing our hearts. In this episode discussed is how chanting is a form of meditation using music as medicine for the soul. This practice is not at all about having a good voice, it's about wanting to be free. The ability to start to uncover wounds and heal them is the fruit of chanting and can transform pain into peace. The boon of this practice is the state of your heart and who you become in this world through the power of this practice. Topics include: how to begin a chanting practice, the benefits of one and how this practice can positively impact our lives on every level. Krishna Das has been called yoga's “rock star” and is a world icon having collaborated with many great musicians including Sting. “He who feels it, knows it.” - Bob Marley SHOW NOTES A modern mystic is someone connected to a deeper reality which changes the way you live in the world. They are connected to that greater love that includes everything. It is about having a heart as wide as the world. It includes others in our own heart and our own being, This practice is the power of music & words and how we can connect them to the divine within and without. What is chanting? “Nama Sankirtan” is the Sanskrit name for this chanting practice. In India where this practice originates, generally the belief is in one god, but it can be called by many names, mamy forms. This ancient practice is “spiritual” but not necessarily “religious” because it brings you into your own true nature and it doesn't mean you need to believe in something based on blind faith. Your own experience is what's important and doing these chants changes the way we sit in our own hearts. Repetition of names over and over with as much attention as you can muster is the practice. Once you start doing a practice, you notice how much time you aren't even really present there at all. We add a practice which is a place to come back to, to bring ourselves home again to our true sense of being. When a child is sick, you hide medicine in a sweet syrup and the syrup is the music, the medicine which is the cure is the name. It is VERY hard to be here and this practice helps just that. When singing, or “chanting” as it is called, you can't grab onto the sound, only come back to it. Chanting builds the letting go muscle. We aren't taught to let go, we are taught to hold on. Letting go is releasing and really coming back home. As you focus in this practice, neural pathways in your brain are deepened through paying attention again and again. Then often the rest of the day after chanting, you get used to not feeling so lost and eventually regardless of what's going on out there, it allows you to be much more functional and to see things less colored by our own stuff. The Sanskrit names of Gods & Goddesses connect us to the wisest, purest parts of our hearts. These names sung are the ultimate reality, so you are planting the seeds of the ultimate reality within you. This idea of chanting the name is not exclusive to Indian traditions but exists all over the world. The music allows us to get more present but the repetition of the name will free us from suffering. Only when we see what our minds are doing can we take responsibility for them and make a shift. “He who feels it, knows it.” - Bob Marley The ideology of Nada Yoga, the Yoga of Sound. This practice is about love and untying the knots in our heart. Our traumas and knots in our heart, prevent us from being happy. The names of the chant are the names of love, who we are underneath all things we think we are. It's not about having a good voice at all, it's about wanting to be free. Pay attention to the sound, the names, & as soon as you notice you are gone, come back. This is the practice. It is simple but not easy. Chanting helps us recognize so much more is possible for us in life. We can do it silently or with others. Like a muscle, our capacities to stay present to the name/chant grows and then our ability to be present moment in moment-to-moment life grows as well. We learn, we don't have to believe our own thoughts & that big emotions pass. Big feelings aren't who we are and that's what chanting reminds us, As you do more practices, you start spending less moments in heavy states of mind and you spend less time giving yourself a hard time. How to start a chanting practice. At least one to two times a day, push the hold button within your life and let the breath come and go and simply be quiet for a few minutes. You can put a CD or Spotify on with the sound of the name (in a chant) and let the seed get planted exposing yourself to the music for a few minutes a day. The archetype and energy of Hanuman. Hanuman is a being fully merged with the Universe, God and reality. Even while fully merged, he's dedicated to helping others remove obstacles on their path and find themselves. He's the destroyer of calamities of suffering. He is the flow of Grace that flows from the Divine to our own hearts. One can see this energy is outside of ourselves or inside. When we bow to the energy of this oneness, we release things locking us in the world in a way we don't want to be. “Do one to others as you would have them do unto you…” Yet the question is: how do we get to the strength to do this? This idea is not programmed in our culture. We can't go on thinking that we are the most important thing in this universe and expect to find any kind of lasting peace, love or happiness. Come, do the practice, go home and the practice will change your life. The ability to start to uncover wounds and heal them is the fruit of chanting and can transform pain into peace. The boon of this practice is the state of your heart and who you become in this world through the power of your practice. Start a chanting practice now, whether you are in crisis or not because challenging times always come and this practice is a raft that will see you through. https://www.krishnadas.com/

Nada yoga is a lost practice from ancient texts. It is a journey from the noise of the external world around us inward to a place of internal peace and bliss. It is a portal through which we connect our individual “Self” with the greater Universe. The practice of nada yoga is not complex or complicated. It is amazingly simple. It is the act of listening.
