The Tantric text of practice, Gheranda Samhita, states that there are 5 Stages of Prana1. Activation 2. Churn 3. Consolidate 4. Ignite 5. DirectWhich implies that when we practice we need to make an intention, so that the Prana we cultivate can be directed to something useful. Through Yoga gaining Self-Knowledge and through Tantra we master Prana power we can effectively shape our lives to manifest what we desire. Prana Vayus are platforms for the breath to rest on for Asana, Pranayama and meditation. This gives us something for our mind to follow, learn from and control to lead us to an enriched life experience, contentment within ourselves and freedom from the pain and suffering in our lives. Asanas are used to improve the quality of the breath. We dynamically move to sense this life force, shape our vital energy and direct it to heal and transform obstructions and to inspire greater insights. The breath is the vehicle for Prana. We open the many road ways – the highways, motorway, country roads, dirt roads and drive ways that are the energetic links that carry sensory info and actions thru-out the systems. Along the way we will find diversions, road works, accidents and dead-ends which are all useful in gaining self-knowledge as self-reflecting our thoughts, emotions, memories and imagery of what comes up. The instances of distraction, or what draws us out of presence is invaluable in understanding what is between you and being free, between you and feeling serene, between you and allowing love in, between you and living with joy, between you and healing.Where the mind goes Prana follows. Our Power of Attention is key to practicing Yoga. The Power of Intention is equally important. They are both ways to be Present. Yoga Sutras 1.34-1.39 provide the suggested focus points to direct the mind and Prana. First breath awareness, then sensation, then inner illuminosity, then contemplate a stable mind by focusing on mantra or intention finally awakening to moment by moment awareness. Using Yoga and Tantra to weave all experiences in to our practice with the goal of cultivating Prana then directing it to what matters to us most.To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. Shandi's love of running began when she was very young, and throughout her life, it was something that always helped her to cope with stress and anxiety. However, as she got older, she became consumed with the idea of proving something to others, and the pressure of the pursuit caused her to have a nervous breakdown during the 2013 Boston Marathon. During this episode Shandi shares more about how she got into running, how running the NYC Marathon changed her life, especially the second time she ran it, when she ran a Boston qualifying time of 3 hours and 12 mins. After qualifying for Boston, she set herself the goal of breaking a 3 hour marathon. Shandi put a lot of pressure on herself to perform well. Unfortunately things did not go to plan, she realised early on she wasn't going to hit her goal, but she still managed to cross the finish line, where she was immediately ushered to the medical tent. Her body had finally given in and later on she would find out that she had had a nervous breakdown. *Please be advised that in this episode, we will be discussing the Boston Marathon bombings, which took place on April 15, 2013. Today on the podcast I'm overjoyed to share Gem Woods' real recovery story with you. Gem's recovery story has taken 10 years to write its self. And a 10 Year journey to find herself. After years of restrictive and bingeing behaviour, her periods stopped when Gem added a new love of intense exercising, with the addition of practicing bikram yoga, alongside a new vegan and gluten free diet. Gem had lost some weight, but she looked well and ate really healthy. Her doctor did her bloods and found she had Hypothyroidism. For a few years this was the excusable reason her missing periods. It took another 7 years of investigating, seeing specialist, trying everything from acupuncture, Bowen therapy to reiki, to extensive research of HA, to then finding Sarah, and her well designed HA recovery course. In this episode Gem and I discuss: Her relationship with food growing up and how this shifted after a moment of shame How she struggled through her teens with bingeing and restricting The biggest struggles she faced in her recovery journey and how she overcame them Her experience with regaining connections with emotions during her recovery journey The joy of being in tune with the natural fluctuations of hormones throughout the menstrual cycle The helpful recovery lessons she learned practicing yoga and becoming a Yoga instructor The trauma informed yoga classes she's developing to help those going through their own recovery journey Her best advice for those currently going through recovery ❤️ Ready to get your period back? Ken Robinson interviews Jay Marcus who claims yoga and meditation are crime vaccines. Also, a look at the crime of auto theft.
A misunderstanding about meditation is that it calms your mind. But even after 20 years of practicing, a calm mind will still have days of chaos. The purpose of meditation is not to become calm but to create equanimity. Though the words calm and equanimous are often used synonymously, there is a slight difference. Calmness can be compared to still waters, while equanimity is more like the sky. It's a container that holds all things. The equanimous mind remains the same, no matter what happens. It contains all of your thoughts, emotions, and memories but does not react to them. Similar to memory, mindfulness requires total presence and having full faculty of your senses. But while memories are rooted in the past, mindfulness is now. If you can learn to anchor the mind with mindfulness and yoga practice, you can learn to become equanimous. Episode 7. Using Yoga as a platform to jump off of today, you are invited to experience what comes along with one of my favourite poses to explore - Tadasana. Finding the fire within and acknowledging the power we can each draw from, we begin to empower ourselves through nurturing our self awareness. In true contrast, I talk about experiencing my own power, noticing how it feels when I'm not in this energy and showcasing examples of what I've learned when it comes to navigating challenging people. As we discuss the great and the powerful, we also visit the opposite end of the spectrum as that helps us expand and understand. We chat about Aspects - of ourselves, of others and what is and isn't in our own control. I also let you in on my perspective when it comes to my 1:1 sessions and encourage you to seek out what makes you curious. Full episode transcript, notes, quotes and links: https://themattferetshow.com“Don't be passive about asking for the help that you need. No matter if it's your family, if it's friends, or if it's because you need to have it contracted out. You need to know, "I can't cook for the next two weeks. I need help with meals." And you find there are actually people who like to cook, that gives that person an opportunity to shine in what they actually know how to do and like doing, and they're able to do it and help someone at the same time. You have to see what thing can you ask a person to do that will benefit them. It sounds weird. It shouldn't have to benefit them, but if you want them to really show up and do that thing, that you need them to do, if they have more of a why to do it, they're going to be more apt to do it.”-Charlotte BayalaBe sure to check out Prepare for Medicare - The Insider's Guide to Buying Medicare Insurance AMAZON BOOK LINK: https://amzn.to/3G4ZWbUAMAZON WORKBOOK LINK: https://amzn.to/39H7cP4 FIND US AThttps://themattferetshow.comhttps://prepareformedicare.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtf1qaqtW-X3s1fry2P1nTw FOLLOW ME ON SOCIALTwitter: https://twitter.com/feret_mattFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/themattferetshow/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/matt_feret/ #caregiving, #caregivinglife #yoga #meditation Hosted on Acast. I think it's so important to think outside of the box when engaging our students in therapy. Today I am talking with Kim and Amy from Talk Yoga, two SLP friends who met at work and combined their passion for speech and yoga to help their clients grow. Not only is Yoga a fun, engaging activity in itself but as a trained yoga instructor, Amy has adapted poses for her clients into what she calls Articulation Poses. Talk Yoga really believes in the whole body of the child and how all of their physical movements inform the movements inside the mouth. Articulation poses are modified versions that connect to oral motor skills for articulation and connect the body to the mouth. Another use for yoga that Amy and Kim embed into their practice is teaching vocabulary using alliteration associated with movements. For younger students, skills like labeling, imitation, and even imagination work can be really engaging through yoga. Yoga is a shared activity and leisure skill that can be benefited from across the lifespan, Amy and Kim emphasize that their work can be applied to any age range. As a therapist, it can be difficult to find shared activities that generalize into the community or home, but yoga is perfect for this. Yoga is accessible to anyone and families can enjoy yoga together as a connecting activity. One tool Amy and Kim use is allowing the student to become the teacher, having students dictate and verbalize the poses creates so many language opportunities!Yoga is a practice grounded in breathwork, calm, and mindfulness. Amy and Kim embed this into each and every one of their sessions, starting with breathwork. The best part of this is it not only calms and prepares your client, but you as the therapist can enter the best headspace to be there with your client. I know firsthand that I see spontaneous communication explode in shared activities like Yoga. Amy and Kim provide so many tips and ideas for embedding yoga into your therapy sessions, I can't wait for you to try them!#autism #speechtheraphyWhat's Inside:How to incorporate yoga in speech therapy. What skills can you work on with yoga in speech therapy? How to engage students and have fun in speech therapy?Embedding yoga into daily work with communication. How starting sessions with breathing exercises can benefit the therapist and the client. The importance of shared activity and leisure skills across the lifespan. This week in the #MoneyMagic Podcast, I talk to Jawana Marshall, a mom, yogi, and the founder of Brown Girl Yoga Tribe. Jawana fell in love with yoga at 18 after her father died. Her first experience was backed by competition and experimenting on how flexible she was. The second time she did it, her purpose was different, and she was very intentional. For her, yoga embodied the person she wanted to be, loving and peaceful. Yoga is not about what you're doing with your body. It's about finding your space from the inside. Finding stillness beyond your thoughts, movements, and whatever is happening around you. This is the heart of yoga, and being able to find peace and calmness over and over again is what will help you find your healing. We usually have different layers of emotional trauma. Everything starts in the casual body, then in the astral body, emotional body, and mental body before manifesting in the physical body. Yoga is a gentle journey, and it will help you peel off the layers and heal. For Jawana, it has given her priceless calm feeling no matter what is happening around her. She was in a mess, but yoga created a space for breakthroughs and to be authentically happy while pushing beyond those boundaries energetically. This is another incredible episode. Tune in! The Optimove Podcast: Providing Solutions For Optimal Human Movement
In this episode, our very own Diana Huynh joins us to discuss yoga and stretching as a solution to many of the problems and stresses we face in our everyday lives. The key takeaway is that though improvements to mindfulness are often associated with yoga, that is just one of the many benefits. Yoga can also be used to decrease the risk of falling, improve posture and flexibility, and improve breathing. Yoga, ultimately, is one of the best ways to reverse a lot of the damage we do to our physical and mental well-being throughout our day-to-day lives. Diamond Dallas Page is a world renowned Hall of Fame wrestler, Actor and founder of DDP Yoga. Inducted as a WWE Hall of Famer in 2017, DDP's career spanned over two decades across the WCW, WWF, TNA and AEW. By all accounts DDP made the transition to Wrestler later in life, but defied the odds and became a three-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, four-time WCW World Tag Team Champion and holder of a number of notable heavyweight titles across all four organizations. Using Yoga as a way to recover from what could have been a career ending spinal injury, he founded DDP Yoga to help others build strength, recover from injury and take back control of their life. With a “meet them where they are” mentality DDP Yoga has skyrocketed in popularity driven in large part by the moving physical transformations that have been documented by users of the DDPY program. In today's episode, DDP explains how his wrestling career almost never began and the serendipitous meeting with Jake The Snake. He shoots down the misconception of simply “getting lucky” and talks about his ability to manifest goals into reality through hard work. He talks about why he hopes the work he does with DDP Yoga will outshine his illustrious wrestling career. He reveals the truth about his “overnight success” and discusses what it takes to defy the odds. DDP opens up about what he's doing to not only increase longevity, but to perform at a high level for decades to come. Last, but certainly not least, he talks about the tremendous transformations that have been documented by DDPY users and what he thinks might be the secret to their success.
